“Lame Duck” President Makes Republicans Say “Quack”

The Iran deal is sealed
Politics • Views: 54,825

That high-pitched whining sound you hear is the Republican Party: Dems Filibuster Iran Vote.

Senate Democrats held ranks Thursday and blocked a resolution disapproving the Iran nuclear deal, handing President Obama a major political victory.

Only a few months earlier, some Senate opponents of the deal predicted they would be able to muster 67 votes to override a presidential veto. They fell far short of their goal this week in a 58-42 vote. Sixty votes were necessary to move forward.

Republicans refused to concede defeat, however, and said they would force Democrats to vote on Iran again next week. “It will be all Iran next week,” Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) said before the vote.

Aren’t they cute when they’re frustrated?

Imagine how many refugees and other people in need could have been helped by $26.2 million.

I like the symbolism of this occurring on the eve of 9/11. It’s like after the collective psychosis we went through after that in which we allowed Dick Cheney and his fellow gangsters to conduct foreign policy unchecked, we’re finally learning to deal with other countries like adults again.

I have no illusions about the viciousness of the Iranian government. I just know that war would be a catastrophe, and if Iranian dissidents are to be believed, diplomacy is the only way that country will liberalize.

I haven’t really been around people doing meth, but it seems she may not be quite frantic enough for meth. That is why I was guessing coca powder.

And isn’t meth extremely addictive? If this has been going on for some time, she should be pretty deep into it by now. And then there are the outward signs of meth and from I’ve heard the physical appearance of a real meth head can be pretty drastic.

All speculation on my part. She could just be a happy drunk too.

Funny article on Slate about how GOP candidate’s lame attempts to insult Trump just set them up to be further torched by him.

Walker, Jindal, and the rest persist nonetheless with the kind of limp quasi-humanoid insults and “humor” that only set Trump up to embarrass them further.
In other words, while their brains might realize that Trump has changed the game up, their political reflexes appear to be stuck in the old world, where tolerably articulate candidates like John Kasich and Carly Fiorina would have been considered the triumphant champs of the first Republican primary debate. In our new world, the presence of a professional reality-television entertainer like Trump was what drew super-record ratings to that debate, which has only fueled his campaign’s success. Walker et al. don’t seem to understand that their past methods of edging out other dull candidates through “disciplined messaging” and campaign “narratives” are not working against someone with an actual personality.

Will be interesting to see what happens to Trump when he eventually loses because he’s never going to the President. There are many delusional Americans, but not enough to put him in the White House. So many people have cut ties with him because of his xenophobic comments, plus he lost his NBC show, so his campaign may end up being a net loss for him over all. I guess he can go back to building casinos and filing multiple bankruptcies (and worshiping himself).

I’m just sick and tired of the media basically pretending that the US major parties are center-right and center-left. What we actually have is:

1) A centrist party that is good on some of the identity issues, but is deeply compromised on economic issues by big $$$ (i.e., the Democrats)

2) And then we have the Republicans, batshit insane and devoted to shitty policies like undoing every bit of progress we’ve made since 1850.

Yet we still have fools in the media that burble on about the supposed wonders of ‘bipartisan solutions’ to problems. I haven’t seen any problems where adding pure shit is a useful part of the solution.

As New York Magazine’s always-sharp Jaime Fuller put it, the Republican candidate had found himself a “secret cheat code that allows him to avoid all campaign questions.” That really was something of an achievement for Walker, whose typical pattern has been to stake out a position on one day, only to reverse himself later.

With that in mind, it will probably come as no surprise to learn that Walker is now reversing his previously stated position on not taking positions.

And in more entertainment news, CNN has decided to add Carly Fiorina to the “A” team debate lineup, giving us 11 loons and crackpots instead of Fox’s 10. Hopefully, they’ll position her next to Trump on stage.

re: #59 The Vicious Babushka

I got a new mattress set today, the same size as my previous mattress set (because who wants to buy all new bedding?) but when did mattresses become so tall?

I’m going to need a stepladder to climb into bed!

OK I just Googled bed stairs and they are actually A Thing.

If you’re using. Box spring, look into bunky boards instead. That’s what I did to not have to climb into bed.

A bunky board is a 2” “box spring”. My king bed uses two twin bunky boards.

You forgot (perhaps intentionally) Benghazi. For the right wing, that trumps everything else before or since.

I can honestly say I had managed to block that out. Obviously a horrible thing happened there, but unlike 9/11 the GOP didn’t even wait 2 days before trying to score political points with it. Here is Romney smirking over the death of 4 Americans.

Went shopping this afternoon for teh holiday foods. They wanted $96 for a brisket. It was a YOOGE brisket. I asked the butcher “Can you cut it in two?” thinking we could freeze half. He was like NO WAY! because shrinkage or whatever.

I bought a boneless eye roast instead.

CNN missed a golden opportunity here.

Of course, Fiorina should be next to Trump, and Paul should be next to Christie for a little Laurel and Hardy action.

Cruz should be on the other side of Trump so he can nod in agreement to everything Trump says.

i tend to think that trump is unstoppable, and that the hysterical madness of his fans wont be tempered until donald himself is elected president and is humbled by the collision of the hard and overwhelming reality of world politics with his yoooge ego

even then it will take a shitload of reality for his fanbase to get it through their heads, as we have had demonstrated to us again and again

The main problem I have with Trump as POTUS is the high likelihood of us getting into World War III for some random garbage, like Twitter insults between Trump and Putin.

SIgh…noticed a new thing with Ta-Nehasi Coates on The Atlantic and while I’m getting issues with the video, noticed the comments were actually open, and despite knowing the landmines, I really was hoping to see some of the Horde actually discussing things.

90% of the comments were outright “Blacks really are the inferior criminal savages we know them as! Blacks ARE the problem, they are THE problem!!” Things really are never changing, are they?

After seeing the poll showing that the millenials have basically the same race views as their parents, I’ve come to the conclusion that we can’t rely on racism dying of old age. What will have to happen is that those of us who care about it get out and vote.

One of the things that Trump could pull off that Cruz, Jindal, or Rubio could not accomplish is convincing a lot of whites that he’ll just remove all the minorities from government jobs to free them up for real Americans. Then we’ve got Woodrow Wilson and the 50+ year setback in equality.

Trump’s fans, should they manage to fall out of love with him, will insist it’s because he wasn’t conservative enough and that he sold them out on ________________.

At some point, I honestly have no idea if voting is really going to fix this, not the way I’ve seen the boil lanced only to see the infection spreading all the faster. It really just genuinely feels like this country, as a whole, is still incurably racist and it’s threatening to surge up to recodify that even with our best efforts.

I’m going to be charitable and make my guess that she has some kind of progressive organic brain disease. I mean, that’s not really a joke - there’s clearly something wrong with her that plain old stupid can’t explain and that’s been getting more pronounced over time.

I felt a great disturbance in #TheForce, as if millions of voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what the Israeli’s are trying to avoid… just a day after the Ayatollah said Israel won’t exist in 25 years…

I sure as hell hope Obama is right here because he won’t be the one to pay if he is wrong…
