Sometimes a photo just says it all. You can feel Ahmed’s confusion, sadness, and anger. Good for President Obama for standing up for this kid.

BREAKING: Texas Vanishes
The entire state of Texas has vanished. Authorities and scientists are rushing to the scene in an effort to find out what happened to an entire state. The timing of Texas’ disappearance is coincidental with the passage of an emergency bill banning any and all things Texans don’t understand.

It’s amazing how people demand more collective accountability from a religion of a billion plus people without a centralized leadership, a protest movement without an actual formal membership coalesced around a label, and/or an entire people of varying social status and means. Meanwhile, groups like police, with actual hierarchy, institutional membership and policy, and history of wagon-circling is above and beyond reproach and anything that happens in regards to such a group is mere ‘some bad apples’.

I keep wondering about his teacher to whom he brought the clock in to show. Did no one think to ask the teacher “is this really just a clock?” if they found the item at all questionable? In a high school was there not one person who could answer that question? If not, who the hell are they hiring to teach there that a 9th grader could have them so buffaloed?

I had this response to a similar comment to yours from Klys in an earlier thread.

I bet if you look into it, it will be a teacher the kids like and consider to be cool. And if that is true, that teacher is probably not liked by the majority of the teaching staff and probably hated by the principal. So, sadly they probably knew their position in the matter.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven. Educators? I think not. Creators of more idiots like Texas already has way too many of…yes.

— Bubblehead II (@BubbleheadII) September 16, 2015

I think we all know the reason for that: the school and the cops just couldn’t admit they fucked up, because that’s a sign of weakness, so they double-down and make an example of him by perpwalking him in front of pretty much everyone in the school, handcuffed with a cop on each arm, and go through the motions as though he actually did something criminal.

Fuck the teacher who reported him and the principal (neither of which followed their own bomb threat protocols, AFAIK), fuck the cops who were involved, and fuck their RWNJ mayor for trying to cover for her city employees while never uttering a word of apology to Ahmed and his family.

It’s not just double standards, it’s backwards standards. Collective accountability from something like a company or a government institution, where its leadership and official policies (or failures of enforcement thereof) can often mean a failure and responsibility beyond just the specific people involved? That’s understandable. Collective accountability of a group based on a stereotype and generalization, less so. Yet most of the fucking country wants said accountability from the latter groups and absolve the former with ‘bad apples’. It’s fucking horrifically backwards.

The mayor stands by her statements, including an interview with former Fox News host Glenn Beck last month, when she said Sheikh and other imams were “bypassing American courts” by offering to mediate disputes among their worshippers according to an Islamic code called Shariah.

The mediation is advertised as voluntary, non-binding and in harmony with the law.

But it’s led Van Duyne to back Rep. Jeff Leach’s bill, “American Laws for American Courts,” which would forbid judges from the already illegal practice of using foreign law in their rulings
