Video: Audience Member Asks Trump: “We Have a Problem… It’s Called ‘Muslims.’ When Can We Get Rid of ‘Em?”

Trump answers: “We’re gonna be looking at that”
Politics • Views: 83,539

YouTube

Wow. Here’s Donald Trump at his town hall event in New Hampshire, where the following exchange took place:

Audience member: We have a problem in this country — it’s called “Muslims.” We know our current President is one.

Trump: Right.

Audience member: You know he’s not even an American. Birth certificate, man!

Trump: We need this question!

Audience member: But anyway [laughter], we have training camps growing, where they want to kill us.

Trump: Mm hmm.

Audience member: That’s my question. When can we get rid of ‘em?

Trump: We’re gonna be looking at a lot of different things. And you know, a lot of people are saying that, and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening out there. We’re gonna be looking at that and plenty of other things.

And it’s not like Trump is slow on his feet in situations like this. I’m sure he could have found a way to shut this down without ticking off the audience too much.

Ask who is first on the list? Probably a group of people whose extinction would be viewed favorably or with a “Meh.” by the majority.

Also, to quote Padme from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith:

“So this is how liberty dies… with thunderous applause.”

A little melodramatic at this point? Perhaps, but when stuff like this is said at a town hall meeting with Donald Trump, the leading GOP presidential candidate, and not only does Trump not publicly repudiate it on-the-spot, but nods and affirms in agreement? It’s beyond fucked up.

Does anybody else remember when it wasn’t cool to be a low class idiot and people sometimes kept their pie holes shut. If that question and response don’t prove the truth of the old saying, better to not speak and be thought a fool, than speak and remove all doubt, a better example would be hard to find.

What did we learn from last night’s GOP debate:

1. Do not operate heavy machinery while listening to Dr. Ben Carson’s voice.
2. Do not mess with Carly Fiorina. She will cut you.
3. Jeb Bush’s version of “more energy” is most people’s version of “comatose.”
4. You can totally make shit up about Planned Parenthood and no one will stop you.
5. Most of these dudes can’t name a single famous American woman. Which is scary as hell.
6. Jeb Bush thinks his brother kept America safe. Who’s going to tell him?
7. This Ronald Reagan guy should run. He sounds way more awesome than any of these asshats.

Compared to the faces in his other townhalls the people looked more bored and much less enthusiastic to me anyway.

Politico is trying to look all smart and everything:

Has Trump stalled?

Radio and television conversation about Trump peaked on Aug. 7, the day after the first Republican debate, with close to 11,000 mentions of his name on each medium that day, according to data through Monday provided by media monitoring firm Critical Mention. The last time Trump reached even half as many mentions on either medium was on Aug. 26, the day after he clashed dramatically with Univision anchor Jorge Ramos at a press conference in Iowa.

This is all too much like reading TMZ about DWTS voting. I suppose outlets like Politico are so eager to sell themselves as gret sources of wisdom so click, click, click, … but frankly TMZ probably does it better.

I’m pretty sure that everyone here realizes that the Christian right has an ulterior motive for loving Israel/Netanyahu/the Israeli right. The open GOP tolerance of white supremacists & neo-Nazis in their ranks guarantees a strong antisemitic undercurrent.

Jews have been perceived as Other for many centuries in the West (also in other places, but only a Western power has actually tried to systematically wipe all of them from the face of the earth). I don’t think that perception of them being Other has been eliminated. It might never be, hence the extreme importance of the existence of Israel to many (most?) Jews.

There is one huge difference between Mussolini and Trump.
Although Mussolini was indeed a fascist who ran an extremely repressive military dictatorship, he was a strong opponent of racial identity politics.

OT, but I was at my son’s house doing some electrical work and had an interesting interaction with my 4 yr old granddaughter.

She said, “Grandpa, want to see a worm?” Well, who could resist such an offer? So we walked to the driveway and she pointed out the worm. Then she said “It’s dead. It’s having a bad day.”

Gave me some perspective. Compared to that worm, I guess my day wasn’t so bad after all. ;)

Nor does she mention that she worked only briefly in that real estate office before heading off to Italy for a year with her first husband, Todd Bartlem, a Stanford classmate who’s told other reporters that in the years they were together, she had no political opinions and considered Dress for Success her bible. When reached by phone recently, Bartlem said only, “You’re wasting your time, and I don’t want you to waste mine. In the clown car that is the Republican Party, she’s the ultimate clown.” (Click.)

Found this about Carly, I know it’s a quote from an ex-husband but still. Here is the article: bloomberg.com

There is one huge difference between Mussolini and Trump.
Although Mussolini was indeed a fascist who ran an extremely repressive military dictatorship, he was a strong opponent of racial identity politics.

The same cannot be said about Donald Trump.

The ur-fascism article by Eco linked up-thread is really important reading. If/when fascism comes in the US, it will not be a perfect match to any previous models (e.g., Germany, Italy, Spain). However, there are important points of similarity that will match. IIRC, Eco lists 12 factors to look for in ur-fascism, and the GOP is at least 10/12.

Well, I got totally bogged down reading the debate threads and have just now caught up. Thanks to everybody who can tolerate watching this crap to report back to those of us feeling too fragile to do it.

So, this is where we are. The nutjob base is in a right swivet about Planned Parenthood, Mexicans, Muslims, etc. If this was September 17, 2016, I’d still say they’re peaking a little early. They’re going to have to keep their insane base on the boil like this for 418 more days. Can it be done?

Well, sure it can be done—it has been being done essentially since Bill Clinton won the election in 1992. But we’ve reached such a frenzy of insane hatred among the right wing—and more importantly, they’ve been given specific targets to go after. They have to be kept in the same state of rage until the election—and I can’t see that happening without a real bloodbath.

Mass assaults on Immigrants, Muslims (or people who dress funny, like Sikhs), health care facilities, medical research labs—I think these things are inevitable. There will be multiple atrocities committed by the army of nuts that the right wing is appealing to—you can take that to the bank. I wish I didn’t think so, but I can’t see any way around it.

My only hope is that there will be a severe backlash, like after the Oklahoma City bombing, only more so. We’ve had 20 more years to see what their tactics are like, and more people are aware of them. Some perpetrators may roll over on some of the biggest instigators, too.

Hopefully, the disaster that this election campaign will be will wake the “silent majority” of simply apathetic but basically good people to what happens when you let right-wingers run amuck. Or, one of these idiots will be elected and life as we know it will be over. I go back and forth on the probabilities.

I think what was specifically regarded as ridiculous by Italian fascists was the Nazi Nordicism (i.e., blond, blue-eyed master race crap). That left lots of room for other kinds of racism, such as whites being better than blacks.

Italian Fascism strongly rejected the common Nordicist conception of the Aryan Race that idealized “pure” Aryans as having certain physical traits that were defined as Nordic such as blond hair and blue eyes.[54] Nordicism was divisive because Italians - and especially southern Italians had faced discrimination from Nordicist proponents in countries like the United States out of the view that non-Nordic southern Europeans were inferior to Nordics …

Not gonna lie here. As a Jewish-American (sixth generation, at that), these latest developments make me as fearful as I’ve been in pretty much my entire life. I do trust the rest of our institutions to protect us from views like ones Trump and Coulter are spewing…but it’s still enough to make one worry.

I think the worst case scenario is a widely scattered but intense outburst of violence and insurrection from RWNJ militias and, much more significantly, ad hoc right wing vigilantes. The latter are not formal militias with rolls, rank, etc. but neither are they completely unorganized. They know each other from social media, gun stores, shooting ranges, and some churches. Insurrection is one of their favorite subjects when they get together.
This is most likely to happen in response to some traumatic event; a shootout with the Feds that leaves a large number of militia dead, a major assassination, or, most regrettably, an act of terrorism by some misguided fool like the one who tried to shoot up the Family Research Council office in DC in 2012.

If half the known extremist militias take part, and if they can attract 20 violent RWNJ vigilantes for each formal militia member, we could be talking about 50,000 or more committed insurrectionists, that is, the ones who will shoot. Millions of RWNJs will cheer from the sidelines or participate in ways short of using their numerous weapons, but most have too much to lose to stay with it once law enforcement can organize a response and troops begin to arrive.

A rough prediction of the outcome, based on this level of participation:

6-7000 fatalities (90% targeted groups, 8-9% RWNJs, 1-2% law enforcement, small number of military). Insurrectionists may also target emergency and medical personnel. educators, religious “heretics” like gay-friendly churches, media personnel, and anyone else perceived as sympathetic to the targeted “others.”

50,000 injuries

500,000 arrests, with 10-12000 getting hard prison time and up to 100 the death penalty.

Property damage, probably worse than 9-11.

It wouldn’t be the civil war coveted by right-wing fanatics, but it would be a national tauma of historic dimensions, with recriminations going on for centuries.

Looking further afield - Hillary winning the election, for sure. I think more than a few Republicans would talk of secession. Posses and groups would form and try to provoke a confrontation. The psychological groundwork for this stuff was laid down during the first Clinton administration, so a second one would trigger these people like a reflex.

Yeah, when she made that crack, the first thing I thought of was Pink in The Wall yelling

That one doesn’t look quite right!

I’m sure Geller & the other bigots are writhing in the ecstasy of the hategasms that Trump’s validation undoubtedly brought on.

i expect trump’s poll numbers to go up as he brings in all the nazis who were worried that he was too much of a liberal

Yes. But lets not forget this. They live in hate. Among the hateful. The rest of us live in family, friends and simple human love. We sleep while they obsess and self medicate. Natural justice.

Added Edit -That’s what makes them dangerous btw. We can go home and find calm. They can not.

You already see right wingers calling Pope Francis a Communist.

I got a BAD feeling when he speaks before Congress a lot of Republicans will walk out on him…

re: #66 Teukka

Optimist. My BAD feeling is a tad more pessimistic.

I wonder, do the Capitol police wand the Representatives and Senators before entering their chambers?

If not, I think they should start.

Trump does business in the Middle East, doesn’t he?

At what point do his business partners in the Gulf lean on him to tamp down the anti-Muslim sentiment among his supporters?

Blue Nile will open three to four more brick-and-mortar locations in 2016, CEO Harvey Kanter told the B. Riley & Co. and Great American Group Consumer Conference on Sept. 16.

Kanter did not specify the locations of the new “webrooms,” as the company calls them. So far, the company has limited the stores to states in which it charges sales tax (New York and Washington), but Kanter hinted the store may eventually venture beyond that.

“The belief is that, at some point, we will see the Marketplace Fairness Act maybe pass and sales tax for Internet retailers maybe happen,” he said. “And we want to make sure we have a road map.”

So whats next Amazon maybe opens a BOOKSTORE?!

Sorry is buzzed blogging same as drunk blogging? I think that was maybe one beer too many this evening. I plead extenuating circumstances. Trump.

What’s scary is that she has a real job out there in the real world, and a fairly responsible one, too, with Raymond James. (Albeit in Fairbanks.)

Trump’s new campaign song…

[Embedded content]

Video

You know, the hate-filled Trump voter (i.e. the GOP base) would all stand and applaud if someone started singing this song, and accompanied it with flags, eagles, fireworks, F-16s flying overhead, etc. etc. Some might even at the crescendo stand up and raise their arms rigid and outstretched … feeling a little uneasy at first, but gradually firming up in their determination, as they see all their friends and neighbors around them standing and giving the “Sieg Heil!” as well…
