Video: Larry Wilmore Interviews “Terror Clock” Kid Ahmed Mohamed

“How long did it take you to make that bomb?”
Humor • Views: 46,850

YouTube

As the right wing media continue trying to paint this kid as a stealth jihadi, cleverly manipulating gullible infidels with a “hoax bomb” (that was actually just a digital clock in a pencil case), here’s The Nightly Show’s Larry Wilmore interviewing Ahmed Mohamed about his nefarious plots.

As opposed to conservatives who actually compare the concept to Nazism. What Francis was calling for were universal themes that go beyond Christianity and Catholicism. The Weekly Standard can shove it with this bullshit. Republicans not only deny separation of church and state exists,, the spread lies that the concept comes from Hitler and not Jefferson.

Although members of Congress largely avoided the ostentatious displays of partisan cheering that have come to characterize the president’s annual State of the Union addresses, an ideological divide was apparent at times. In response to Francis’s passage about climate change, Democrats mostly stood and cheered, while some Republicans stayed seated and applauded mildly, if at all.

re: #38 jaunte

Off the shelf components are what these kids use to make their electronics. Taking stuff apart and figuring out how they go back together.

That’s rather besides the point. The fact that the school took an outlandish response to his project that was approved by one of his teachers. Yet the school admin called police, had him handcuffed for hours, and didn’t see anything wrong with that - even as they didn’t see the device as a threat or a hoax device, since they didn’t see the need to even call the bomb squad.

Had this device been any kind of a threat, that would have been the prudent response. But that didn’t happen.

45
Nyet  Sep 24, 2015 • 12:00:25pm

Of course, they have the same diagrams proving that it was a hoax bomb because it had every component of a bomb without the explosives.

Which, taken together, proves that every digital clock is a hoax bomb, I guess.

re: #45 Nyet

When every bomb that involves clock components is a bomb, then any clock becomes a bomb component.

Of course, if you deconstruct pretty much any piece of technology these days, you’d see all manner of component that could conceivably be a bomb component. Take your smart phone for example. It’s got any number of components that could act as a detonator - whether it’s motion control, GPS, clock (including stopwatches, countdown, etc.), or apps that the individual loaded on to the device.

The GOP is just being cartoonishly evil now.

A white Florida Republican suggested knocking a black, longtime Democratic congresswoman out of her seat by gerrymandering more prisoners into her district, according to audio obtained by Politico and published on Wednesday.

Politico reported that state Rep. Janet Adkins (R) made the suggestion regarding U.S. Rep. Corrinne Brown’s (D) district in a closed-door meeting of the North Florida Republican caucus.

“It’s a perfect storm,” Adkins said on the audio recording. “You draw it in such a fashion so perhaps, a majority, or maybe not a majority, but a number of them will live in the prisons, thereby not being able to vote.”

The video definitely shows two teenage boys punching and kicking a teenage girl. The claim is that they were Muslims who attacked her because they disapproved of her clothing (i.e. captions like “Instant sharia comes to Western streets”). One person in the youtube comments said that there nothing in the video to support that particular claim and that the boys were both charged for the assault and sentenced to community service. Apparently the incident either took place near Amsterdam or Rotterdam. That’s why I was hoping someone’s around who knows more about what really happened or can make out the words the video (because like I said, it’s being blasted all over to illustrate omg this is what happens when you let in syrian refugees!!!1!! )

Interestingly, there used to be a Jewish tradition that Simon Kepha was a rabbinic sage directed by other rabbis to infiltrate the (then) Jewish Christianity and become the first Pope in order to finish the process of separation of the two religions. This story was told in some versions of Toldot Yeshu and was even cited by Rashi as a fact in his Talmudic commentary, though it was then censored out from most versions of the commentary. Here is an interesting scholarly article about that:

Just had the worst online shopping experience of my life, with some assholes, some illiterate incompetent grifters called tigerdirect.com. I had ordered a hard drive from their website last Saturday. I paid extra for fast shipping, 2-4 days. Today, I found that the order has not been pulled or shipped yet.

This was hard enough because this TigerDirect gang does not provide tracking or shipping or any other information for PayPal transactions. I had to get the information from PayPal. I tried emailing TigerDirect with this but they said they needed an order number before they could help, an order number that did not exist yet because the order had not yet been shipped. I tried their phone line instead. After an excruciating 34 minutes on hold, a human person came on, we spoke for about 20 seconds then she started saying she could not hear me and she finally hung up. I called back. This time the hold time was 47 minutes, with some of the worst piano bar fake jazz ever committed to media mooing and sighing in the background. Another human finally came on. I learned that the item had not, in fact, been in stock and they were trying to get it from the overseas supplier. I managed to get the order cancelled. I will have to wait “3-5 business days” for the refund to be applied through my PayPal account, though PayPal and all other grifter class businesses naturally demand instantaneous payment of any funds owed TO them.

This kind of nonsense seems to be SOP in business anymore. These fuckers are turning me into a Bolshevik, except that I am a bit skeptical that the People’s Collective for Hard Drive Distribution could do any better.

Wisconsin Assembly passes measure cutting Planned Parenthood funding

The state Assembly voted Thursday to strip Planned Parenthood of about $3.5 million in government funding a year.

The measure passed 60-35, with all Republicans backing it and all Democrats opposing it. It now goes to the Senate, which like the Assembly is controlled by Republicans.

The debate came as Republicans struggle over separate legislation that would ban research using fetal tissue from abortions. One legislative leader said Thursday he hoped to find a compromise on the measure by next month.

And, Scott Walker is getting right back to work as expected.

Scott Walker backs GOP plan to overhaul civil service system

Just three days after ending his presidential run, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker sought to reassert his conservative credentials Thursday by backing a proposed overhaul of the state’s civil service system for 30,000 employees, saying its safeguards against political patronage in hiring and firing state workers need to keep up with the times and the crush of retiring baby boomers.

Four years after repealing most collective bargaining for most public employees, Walker and two top Republican lawmakers are seeking to: eliminate the state’s civil service exams, replacing it with a résumé-based system for merit hiring; stop allowing longtime employees to avoid termination by “bumping” other workers with less seniority out of their jobs; and shorten by more than half the process for employees to appeal their dismissal or discipline.

“The process to protect merit is still there, even in the reforms you’re proposing,” Walker told Assembly Republicans in a half-hour meeting Thursday. “Those legitimate, merit-based protections are all completely in place, but it gets rid of some of the nonsense.”

A right wing radio host in Lubbock got caught out when he scoffed at the authenticity of Eisenhower’s military-industrial complex speech on a Facebook page. Someone had sent him a ‘net graphic with a quote from the speech over Ike’s portrait. He said, “And every random internet meme is totally reliable- Abraham Lincoln.”

I responded with a recording from the Eisenhower library and many others immediately pointed out that the quote was based on more than a random internet graphic.

I would think that someone in his 40s who makes it his business to comment on public policy, and who constantly complains about “low information voters,” would at least know about that speech. Gross ignorance seems to be less a bug than a feature among these people however.

Not quite a master’s in chemistry, from what I’ve read on Wiki, but still no slouch:

In the sixth grade, Bergoglio attended Wilfrid Barón de los Santos Ángeles, a school of the Salesians of Don Bosco, in Ramos Mejía, Buenos Aires. He attended the technical secondary school Escuela Técnica Industrial N° 27 Hipólito Yrigoyen,[17] named after a past President of Argentina, and graduated with a chemical technician’s diploma.[18][19] He worked for a few years in that capacity in the foods section at Hickethier-Bachmann Laboratory[20] where his boss was Esther Ballestrino. Before joining the Jesuits, Bergoglio worked as a bar bouncer and as a janitor sweeping floors, and he also ran tests in a chemical laboratory.[21][22]

I haven’t seen a surviving K-car of that era in many years. Haven’t seen a Pinto or Vega either. I did see an AMC Gremlin the other day though. Its successor, the Pacer, actually has a cult following of sorts.

I saw a Pinto wheezing around here in Columbus last year. Gremlins are still sought after by the 70s Hot Rodder types if they can find one that is still metal.

My girlfriend in late high school had the choice of two AMC products. Her mother had a light green Pacer, and her father had a light green Hornet. 1970-71 models or so. I swear you could get out and outrun the pacer on some of the grades in my hometown.

THEY LIVE!
AMC Pacer at Hemmings classified 2 of them, one apparently mint for $9995 and an apparent clunker for $1995.

There is also a solitary Gremlin among those hundreds of Porsches and Ferraris at Hemmings, Gremlin, a “project” car up for auction.

They even have 4 rare, un-torched Ford Pintos, with one optimistic seller asking $7995

My old girlfriend had one of those lima-bean-colored Hornets for many years. It was actually a pretty reliable little beast. The problem with the Pacer (aside from the looks) is that the deal fell through for the Audi engine they were going to put in it, and they had to shoehorn in their inline six. The rear two spark plugs were totally inaccessible.

You couldn’t get into the Porsche Club of America with a 914, IIRC, even if it was a 914/6—because the 914/4s had Type IV VW engines.

I wouldn’t doubt it. That is probably because the 914 was to be a VW sportin’ car in the line of thinking of the old Karmen Ghia. Problem was at the time, VW thought it was too sporty for their badge and so with it already developed Porsche put them out.

The early 924s aren’t much liked by the real™ Porsche enthusiasts either. That was too Audi engined and too under powered.

Well, gotta scrounge up a light dinner and go to a friend’s house for some visiting and online watching the Japanese Grand Prix practice tonight. I’m going to show him how to get in on the online race stuff and look to see what he’ll need to connect his laptop to his big HD TV.

See you all later.

THe original was, IIRC, was for a Wankel to power the Pacer. But no one could come up with one that was reliable enough, so they shoehorned in the old 258 straight-six.

Good luck!

Nothing I can do about it at this point. All comes down to what some assholes in accounting come up with.

On the plus side: I’m already one of the lowest paid people on the team, because our company doesn’t believe in raises. I’ve consistently gotten good performance reviews, another team member quit a few weeks ago, so we’ve got a empty, space on the team already. Also factor in we’ve got 2 consistent fuck ups who have only worked here a fraction of the time I have.

On the down side: Dealing with assholes who think firing workers is the best way for a company to raise its revenue.

I didn’t think AMC was on the Wankel train. The Chevy Monza Sport Coupe was designed for a Wankel, that’s for sure—that’s why when they put that little (232??) V8 in it, you had to pull the engine to change the spark plugs.

At least that’s explicable—now explain the same fact about the ‘70 Mustang.

Not entirely true.
The 914/6 vehicles weren’t allowed because all of the Project 914 vehicles were produced at the Volkswagen assembly facility. The 924 owners were allowed to be members, even though they had Audi engines and other parts made by Volkswagen, the vehicles were built at Porsche’s Stuttgart assembly plant.

Ah, was that the reasoning? I never owned a Porsche, but I did own three Type IV engined cars—two 412 wagons and a Campmobile—so I’m something of an aficionado….

re: #298 The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge

From the Wikipedia article on the AMC Pacer:

Originally, the car was designed for a Wankel rotary engine. In 1973, AMC signed a licensing agreement with Curtiss-Wright to build Wankels for cars and Jeep-type vehicles. (The agreement also permitted Curtiss-Wright to sell rotaries elsewhere.)[29] Later, AMC decided instead to purchase the engines from General Motors (GM), who were developing them for use in their own cars. However, GM canceled development in 1974 for reasons that included durability issues, the fuel crisis, tooling costs (for the engines and also for a new product line designed around the rotary’s ultra-compact dimensions) and the upcoming (late 1970s) U.S. emissions legislation. It was also thought that the high-revving Wankel would not suit Americans accustomed to low revs and high torque.

How a 12-year old Eden Prarie Boy is throwing some serious shade against Ben Carson:

The boy looks straight at the camera as he addresses Carson: “What if someone told you that you couldn’t become president because of your color? What if someone told you that you couldn’t become president because of your race? What if someone told you that you couldn’t become president because of your faith? And that’s what you did to me.”

Yusuf says he plans on running for president in 2040. Once elected, he said, he would put more money into education and health care instead of spending it on wars.

“We should help the refugees,” he said. “We’re in debt, and we are wasting all our money.”

For now, Yusuf is keeping up with the candidate debates. He has some reactions: For instance, he said GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s facial expressions are childish.

If he met Carson in person, Yusuf said, he would educate him about Islam. “We’re American citizens, just like him,” he said.

And of course there’s a new thread as soon as I start to comment…

This thread is bringing back memories. Not all of them good!
First husband bought a Vega the first year they came out. (Wasn’t married to him yet.) I rather liked that car, but it had a lot of engine problems.
First husband then sold that one to buy a Monza the first year they came out. It was painted dark maroon but that was clearly a subterfuge to disguise a pure-D lemon. He bought that one a week before the wedding, and we spent four days of the planned honeymoon staying with his mom while the car was in the shop. The marriage lasted ten years, amazingly enough. The car lasted less than two.
Had a Dodge Omni later. That one actually worked pretty well.
Lord, the 70’s!

(Current husband says to remind the Lizards that the lack of K-cars can probably be attributed to Red Green. I don’t remember if ALL of the vehicles he destroyed were K-cars, but he thinned the herd considerably.)
