BREAKING: Missouri Attorney General Finds No Evidence Planned Parenthood “Sells Baby Parts”

A Republican campaign issue built entirely on lies is falling apart
US News • Views: 70,137

A number of states have launched investigations into Planned Parenthood after the release of the Center for Medical Progress’s blatantly deceptive videos, including Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and South Dakota, and so far every state has completely vindicated the women’s health organization of any and all wrongdoing.

Today Missouri joins this growing list of states, as Attorney General Chris Koster’s office announces they have found absolutely no evidence Planned Parenthood is illegally selling fetal tissue.

An investigation in Missouri found no evidence that Planned Parenthood’s St. Louis clinic mishandled fetal tissue or engaged in unlawful activity, Attorney General Chris Koster’s office said on Monday.

Koster’s office had launched an investigation after an anti-abortion group released videos over the summer alleging that Planned Parenthood in other states illegally sold fetal tissue.

“The evidence reviewed by my investigators supports Planned Parenthood’s representation that fetal tissue is handled in accordance with Missouri law,” Koster said in a news release. “We have discovered no evidence whatsoever to suggest that Planned Parenthood’s St. Louis facility is selling fetal tissue.”

How much more money will the Republican Party waste on “investigations” prompted by a bogus religious right smear attack?

Charles Pierce:

“…This is what will happen. The committee will be gaveled into session. It will leak like a sieve. It will prove nothing of what it sets out to prove. It will adjourn. And some woman far from Washington will die of cervical cancer because she can’t get a screening.”

US Border Patrol Agent Indicted for Murder After Using a Mexican Child for Target Practice
Lonnie Swartz may become the first US Border Patrol agent to be convicted of murder in a cross-border shooting.

Only American Fetuses matter.

I Stand With Planned Parenthood  Sep 28, 2015 • 11:05:27am
Sean Chapman, Mr. Swartz’s attorney, said his client will plead not guilty at an Oct. 9 arraignment. He tried unsuccessfully to get the lawsuit thrown out based on the claim that the Mexican teenager has no Constitutional rights. A court has agreed with this stance in previous cases with similar circumstances.

I gotta log off, I’m getting pissed.

11 states opened investigations. So far, not a single one has found so much as a minor violation. And that includes Florida, where Gov. Scott tried to get health officials to define a trimester in a manner inconsistent with state law so as to force a violation (so, that’d be an own goal since Scott was the one busted, not PP).

mediamatters.org

Florida. Null (and that’s even with Gov. Scott trying to scam a violation where none existed by redefining what 1st trimester means).
Massachusetts. Nil
Indiana. Nothing
Georgia. Nada.
South Dakota. Nope.
Pennsylvania. Zilch.
Missouri. Zip.

The CMP videos kicked over a nest of GOP vipers looking to kill PP, but those agitprop BS videos have only exposed the GOP as a bunch of anti choice extremists whose lies can’t (and shouldn’t) stand up to the slightest scrutiny.

Meanwhile, you’ve got governors like Jindal in LA who are attempting to defund PP, and running up against federal law that prohibits it - and they’re fighting it on that front. So, they’re wasting even more taxpayer money to try and defund PP.

But the thing that ties it all together is the disdain for the truth, whether it’s pretending there’s something in the videos that isn’t there, or that poor people pop out babies for the extra welfare.

[facepalm] Never happened before?

1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and every year since. Like clockwork the North threatens the South with conflict and war. Seoul is within artillery range of North Korea and has been since the DMZ was established. The North has been able to hit the South all along - and the Kim clan has been quite active in making threats against the US and the South ever since the cease fire agreement was signed in 1953. Heck, the North has even shelled South Korean territory (and there’s DMZ skirmishes every so often too). Oh and managed to sink a South Korean warship a few years back (though they claim the warship hit a mine).

But besides all that - the North has threatened to use its nuclear arsenal against the South ever since the North went nuclear. That’s a pretty big threat. Boom stick big.

Very.

en.wikipedia.org

Korean Air Flight 858 was a scheduled international passenger flight between Baghdad, Iraq and Seoul, South Korea. On 29 November 1987, the aircraft flying that route exploded in mid-air upon the detonation of a bomb planted inside an overhead storage bin in the airplane’s passenger cabin by North Korean agents.

The two agents, acting upon orders from the North Korean government, planted the device in an overhead storage bin before disembarking from the aircraft during the first stop-over in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. While the aircraft was flying over the Andaman Sea to its second stop-over in Bangkok, Thailand, the bomb detonated and destroyed the Korean Air Boeing 707-3B5C. Everyone on board the aircraft, 104 passengers and 11 crew members, most of whom were South Koreans, were killed. The attack occurred 34 years after the Korean Armistice Agreement that ended the hostilities of the Korean War on 27 July 1953.

Obama.

Yuh.

Speaking of which, WRT NK, I just love the way history repeats itself. Clinton had a deal with NK on nukes, which the Bush Administration decided to abrogate because NK, being NK, cheated. And then not negotiate, because of their belief that you only negotiate after the other side has given up.

Result? NK goes ahead and builds a nuke, about which we now have to worry.

At the same time, they similarly refused to negotiate with Iran about their nuke program until Iran gave up their nuke program.

Result? Iran goes from a few centrifuges to 20,000 and enriches enough Uranium to build a nuke in 2 months.

Now Obama and the P5+1 negotiate a deal to get rid of the centrifuges and the Uranium, and what do the same people who gave us a nuclear-armed NK and an almost-nuclear armed Iran want to do? Abrogate the deal and refuse to negotiate until Iran gives up their nuke program - because that worked so well the last time.

How is it that people don’t see this? Why are they so invested in an obvious route to failure? WTF is wrong with these people?

So I took a quick look at Trump’s email plan, and there’s one obvious offset for all the tax cuts: No Earned Income Tax Credit. Wiki tells me that that’s $70 billion a year, which is peanuts to the cut effects, but still enough to nicely screw over the working poor.

After all, if you make under $40,000 as a married couple with 2 kids you’ll now pay $0 taxes, great, right? Except you were GETTING BACK $5000.

(This says nothing at all about the stupidity of the B.S. empty form for low-income people. The thing that drives people nuts about the tax system is how difficult it is to calculate income. Once that’s calculated, figuring out the actual tax you pay is pretty trivial. But you have to prove it, even if you don’t end up paying any taxes. It tends to be easier for low-income people because they’re working entirely on W-2s, or (sigh) 1099s. But it still has to be done, unless Trump just wants EVERYONE to send in the “I Win!” cards and just trust that no one will cheat…)

What you say is in general true, but we’re only supposed to worry about NK having nuclear weapons because we’ve been told to worry about it.

We know how much plutonium they could have produced in their one experimental reactor. They’ve used a large fraction of it in their three failed tests. Even if they decided to produce their last, sub-minimal design, they could only make a few. If they have more plutonium than we think they do, the only reason that could be is that they “cooked” it too long—meaning they’re working with essentially reactor-grade plutonium.

Maybe that’s why all their tests were failures. In any case, that’s the material they’re stuck with. Maybe they could manufacture five or six or eight bombs with half the yield of India’s Smiling Buddha test, which was so disappointing that they gave up for 25 years. So what? How much do they weigh? How are they going to deliver them? Trebuchet?

It seems to be in the interest of all parties in this country to exaggerate the success of the North Korean nuclear program. Don’t buy into it. It’s a threat to nobody except themselves—as a target for American attack if the wrong people get into the White House.

From what I gather: two people with diametrically opposed views talked past each other. So, just another day in American politics.

I was reading up earlier on how Americans come down on abortion and clicking through a few links, came across this at Vox. Basically, we don’t really know what people really think on the issue because we’ve been asking the wrong questions for decades. It makes sense, because it does seem like an issue where you really have to get into the details to figure out what people think about it.

Of course, with much of the pro-birth movement, it doesn’t really matter because they honestly see it as murder and evil.

Volkswagen was cheating. That’s what everyone in the project began to suspect but wouldn’t dare to say out loud.

“It’s the sort of thing you just don’t go around accusing companies of doing unless you’re absolutely sure,” says John German, with the International Council on Clean Transportation — the group that commissioned the test. German immediately suspected Volkswagen had done something not completely unheard of in the car business: install what’s called a defeat device.

At the story’s end, the protagonist is explaining how the deed will be done once he throws this last switch. He asks aloud, “I wonder if there really is a God?” Lightning fuses the last switch closed and a thunderous voice answers, “There is now!”

These days, I expect my Roku to present a list of demands.

I read this. Wasn’t it Fedric Brown?

re: #176 Kragar

I’ve been enjoying it immensely. One of the characters invented a machine for the government in the wake of 9/11 to monitor and identify threats, but over the course of the series, they gradually realize the machine has developed awareness.

I’ll give it a whirl. I enjoy good television which means that I don’t enjoy much of it much of the time. A good show is a gem.

The kicker is when they get a “Person of Interest”, they don’t know whether the person is going to be the victim or the perpetrator of a crime, just that something is being planned for them. As the series goes on, you learn more about the various safeguards the machine’s creator put in place and how other organizations would seek to subvert or get around them.

OTOH, they released Season 2 of The Blacklist earlier than promised. Burned through that in a week. Now the Older Boy is watching Season 1. Kind of fun watching it again, looking for foreshadowing. Not to mention the occasional continuity problems.

Like the meeting between Tom and Red where each pretends not to know the other, despite what we learn in Season 2

It will be a mid season release, so December/January. 13 Episodes scheduled. They’re still negotiating with CBS, but said they’re approaching it like its going to be the last season and try to get everything wrapped up.

213

re: #207 Timothy Watson

I heard midseason. I also heard the creators are working on the assumption the 13 episodes of the 5th season will be the last.

Mrs. FBW and I were talking about this, and the difference between most scripted dramas on the broadcast networks, as opposed to the cable networks.

On the former, you find that either the arcs get cut short when the series isn’t renewed (think Firefly), or the arcs rise and fall, but they keep the series going because it’s still popular, even though all the initial story conflicts and such are satisfyingly resolved (think Castle).

OTOH, Mad Men and Breaking Bad, for example, ended at the peak of popularity, with all the fans desperately wanting more, which is actually more satisfying.

Babylon 5 was originally set to run over 5 years. Conflict with the studios led to the team wrapping up most of the storylines in season 4, in case they got cancelled, and why season 5 seemed so meh in comparison.

Stargate was another series that limped on after it should have been left to die. The show was done after season 8, but they decided to carry on for 2 more awful seasons while they dry humped Farscape’s beaten corpse.

It’s hard to write extreme pregnancy into that character’s story. Lots of big dark coats over big dark outfits, and a lot of headshots.

I had a little bitty frog on my kitchen counter. Moved a chopping board aside and “Oh hai!” Blossom the cockatoo spotted him about the same time but I knew if she got to him first she’d eat him and that is NOT a sight I ever wanna see. The little fucker had us both scrambling. I finally put Blossom in her cage for a nap so I could figure out how to catch him and put him outside. Finally snapped to using Mo’s little fish net. Worked like a charm. But Blossom is still pissed off and pouting.

Is it a bumblebee or a carpenter bee?

The reason I ask, many times carpenter bees are flying right around a house looking for some open wood they can drill into and make a nest. Sometime when a door or window is open they will find themselves inside.

A bumble bee will usually be out in the open areas a bit more. A little less likely to end up indoors.

Just wondering, since a lot of people aren’t familiar with carpenter bees. They are the same size, fly in the same out-of-control way but instead of being yellow and black they are all dark brown-black. And I think carpenter bees can’t sting, they just buzz you like they can to scare you. Only the queen bee stings, but she only has one stinger then she dies…so very reluctant to sting.
