Rep. Jason Chaffetz: Our Rotten Lying Anti-Choice Scumbag of the Day

Tries to ambush Planned Parenthood’s president with a blatantly misleading chart
Politics • Views: 57,139

YouTube

I watched this absolutely disgraceful moment live this morning, as Rep. Jason Chaffetz tried to ambush Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards with a bizarre “chart” that purported to show that Planned Parenthood had nearly ceased providing breast exams and cancer screenings, while the number of abortions radically increased.

Here’s that “chart” — and I’m putting the word in quotes because it’s like a first grader’s idea of a “chart,” with just a couple of straight lines, one going up and one going down, and no Y axis.

But more importantly, watch as Rep. Chaffetz lies outright and says, “I pulled those numbers directly out of your corporate reports.”

No, he did not. The chart was created by Americans United for Life, a radical anti-choice organization, and it’s not just laughably over-simplified, it’s deliberately deceptive. Like so much of the propaganda these people circulate.

When Cecile Richards points this out to Chaffetz, he doesn’t apologize for lying, of course. He just moves on with a smile.

This is why Rep. Jason Chaffetz is LGF’s rotten lying scumbag of the day. (No disrespect intended to bags of scum.)

And by the way, here’s a clear image of that “chart.” Notice that 1) it starts in 2006, and 2) the numbers are ridiculously out of whack because the chart lacks a Y axis. “Cancer screening and prevention services” actually have declined while abortions have increased; cancer screenings end up at more than 935,000, while the number of abortions ends at 327,000. But the chart is presented in a deceptive way to make it look like there are now three times as many abortions as cancer screenings, which is ludicrously false. The truth is exactly the opposite.

UPDATE at 9/29/15 5:29:27 pm by Charles Johnson

At Mother Jones, Kevin Drum replotted the data for this chart, but added a Y axis. (Which is normally considered necessary when charting data, but apparently anti-choice propaganda organizations give themselves an exemption.)

And if you add in the other services Planned Parenthood provides, specifically STD screening and contraception, the chart looks even more real.

UPDATE at 9/29/15 5:48:04 pm by Charles Johnson

Here’s another look at the data from @NeotericLefty on Twitter:

If those folk are still having Benghazi investigations (now running longer than Watergate), certainly they’ll keep at this for years to come.

Chaffertz cares so much about saving lives and money, he voted to cut the security budget for embassies in the months before Benghazi

GOP Rep: I ‘Absolutely’ Voted To Cut Funding For Embassy Security

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) said today that he voted to cut funding for U.S. embassy security amid political attacks from Republicans that the Obama administration did not do enough to secure the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya that was attacked last month.

Federal Judge halts Herbert’s directive to stop Planned Parenthood
funding

A federal judge Tuesday issued a temporary order stopping Gov. Gary Herbert’s directive to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood of Utah.

U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups’ ruling allows the organization to receive federal dollars through the Utah Department of Health for at least two weeks. He scheduled a hearing for Oct. 15 to consider an injunction that would put the governor’s order on hold pending the outcome of the lawsuit Planned Parenthood filed against the state Monday.

Waddoups said it’s in the public interest to maintain the services Planned Parenthood provides, and the state made no arguments proving otherwise. He also told the state if it were to still attempt to pull the money, it would have to do it on grounds others than those Herbert cited earlier this month.

House GOP holds post-Boehner ‘therapy session’

Four days after Speaker John Boehner said he was quitting, House Republicans gathered for a family “therapy session” Tuesday night to try to talk through some of the underlying problems that forced the Ohio Republican out in the first place.

[…]

No date was set for next month’s leadership elections. Lawmakers were asked not to bring their smartphones in the meeting to prevent them from tweeting, texting or emailing (though a few phones rang).

[…]

At one point, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) stood up in the room to address chatter he might launch a surprise bid for Speaker or majority leader. He told colleagues he wasn’t running and instead is focused on leading the committee investigating the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya.

Slightly, but only really slightly, off topic - WaPo editors attack the GOP racket in VA:

In Virginia’s sham democracy, voters are robbed at the ballot box

IN VIRGINIA, the incumbent protection racket known as redistricting has ensured that another all-but-meaningless season of state legislative elections has arrived, and with it the predictable response — namely, apathy and wan turnout. That’s fine by the lawmakers who drew the commonwealth’s electoral map, and who evidently prefer that voters ratify the status quo than enjoy a genuine choice at the ballot.

I don’t think you can hope Republicans will destroy themselves because voters’ memories are too short. 2008 should have send them back to the wilderness, but it didn’t happen. You have to fight, and never give up. And the US is big and powerful enough that you can’t truly get away from it. If the US goes down, the world goes with it.

I actually thought he was pretty good, especially for his first night. Seemed less nervous than Larry Wilmore or Stephen Colbert on the debut episodes of their new talk shows.

And, unlike Colbert and Wilmore, Noah’s show still has a lot of his predecessor’s writers. So the funny and often insightful political satire should continue. Oh, and Noah is a really smart guy, which helps a lot when doing this kind of show.

From Wikipedia:

Mealworms are edible for humans. Baked or fried mealworms are marketed as a healthful snack food. They may be easily reared on fresh oats, wheat bran or grain, with sliced potato, carrots, or apple as a moisture source.

Mealworms have been incorporated into tequila-flavored novelty candies. Mealworms are not traditionally served in tequila, and the “tequila worm” in certain mezcals is usually the larva of the moth Hypopta agavis.

Mealworms are typically used as a pet food for captive reptiles, fish, and birds. They are also provided to wild birds in bird feeders, particularly during the nesting season. Mealworms are useful for their high protein content. They are also used as fishing bait.

They are commercially available in bulk and are sold in containers of bran or oatmeal. Commercial growers incorporate a juvenile hormone into the feeding process to keep the mealworm in the larval stage and achieve an abnormal length of 2 cm or greater.

There’s a picture of a Chinese dish containing mealworms.

No telling how edible the new ones are.

If Congress holds hearings where they force those who appear before them to swear upon the Bible to ‘tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth’, then the members of the committee should be upheld to the same standard and themselves subjected to swear upon a Bible that the statements they make are ‘the truth, whole truth, and nothing but the truth’ before the committee starts its work.

For comparison purposes, Obama lost Texas women 52-47 in 2008, according to the exit poll, and Bill White lost 53-45 among women in 2010. (No exit polls in Texas in 2012.) So Davis’ performance among Texas women is par for the course.

And every Democrat running statewide in TX loses women about 55-45 and men about 60-40. It’s been that way for 20 years now. Which is why TX usually goes roughly 57-43 R over D. The big cities are actually all slightly blue, except for red Fort Worth and very blue Austin. But the rural areas are not much different from Alabama, Miss, etc. Rural whites in TX vote 80% Republican, and that’s a huge hurdle to overcome. Sadly Texas will be continue to be red for the near future.

Davis’ position on abortion is the mainstream Dem position, and half of America agrees with it. How the hell a sentient being could call that extremist I have no idea.

Okay perhaps all true but as the note points out the car buyers were lied to about what the car was. Why do I bring all this up? Tiny rant.

These lying SOB’s have me wanting to throw things at the TV but they aren’t worth the money it would cost to replace it. When I heard Chaffetz speaking to Cecile Richards about the slide he showed her that was from an anti-abortion group, he ended with a most hypocritical statement, saying, “We’re just trying to get to the truth of the matter.” If the truth mattered to these bozos, there wouldn’t have been a need for a hearing for they would have realized the videos that prompted this latest ramped up attack on Planned Parenthood have been thoroughly discredited by six different states. There has been zero acknowledgment that I’m aware of that anyone who was in favor of the hearings has admitted to the editing of the videos.

I was almost embarrassed for the men doing the questioning that although the majority of them are married, they are not the least bit informed about women’s healthcare and what is routine for women. I daresay their wives are much better informed about theirs although if they were to step forward and demand changes they’d be met with incredulous looks and inquiries as to, “who the hell do you think you are to tell me what I can do as far as my own healthcare goes?!” just as women have been saying to them although they choose to ignore them.

Voters in this country are in FAVOR of Planned Parenthood. We trust one another to take care of our own bodies and don’t believe anyone has the right to choose what someone else should or shouldn’t do in regards to their healthcare.

The refusal of the GOP committee to allow the head of the organization who conducted the videos is more than telling. They certainly can’t have someone testifying who would either end up perjuring themselves, taking the 5th or admitting to the falsification of the videos that have been put forward as truthful. What a conundrum and one in which they should be forced to choose!

First place in the NL Central pretty much belongs to the Cardinals, but the Cubs still have a chance to catch Pittsburgh, especially since if its a tie we get home field advantage (the Cubs won most of the regular season games between the two teams). The Pirates also have to play your teams twice more, before finishing the season as the Cubs will: Facing one of the second-tier teams of the division.
