BREAKING: Planned Parenthood Wins Round in US Court Against Utah Governor’s Attempt to Defund

“Strong public interests outweigh the defendants’ stated interests in defunding”
US News • Views: 47,396

In Utah, Planned Parenthood has won the first round in court against Republican Governor Gary Herbert, getting a temporary injunction preventing him from revoking Planned Parenthood’s contracts with state agencies. Herbert ordered these contracts voided based on (you guessed it) the deliberately deceptive videos produced by the Orwellian “Center for Medical Progress.”

The judge found that Herbert’s plans to defund the organization would result in significant negative impacts on public health.

“The programs carried out by plaintiff target at-risk individuals and the reduction of communicable diseases,” he wrote. “These are strong public interests that outweigh the defendants’ stated interests in defunding” the group.

The judge also sided with Planned Parenthood in finding “a substantial likelihood” that it would prevail on the merits of its arguments that Herbert, a Republican, had violated its constitutional rights to equal protection and freedom of association.

The plaintiffs were singled out based on their “association with an organization against whom accusations have been made of illegal conduct,” the judge said. “Those accusations are still under investigation and have not been proved.”

A spokeswoman for the governor, Aimee Edwards, said he “stands by his actions,” adding: “Today’s procedural action does not deter Governor Herbert’s resolve to carry out his directive.”

Oh. Wait.

So to recap, the states investigating PP have found zero violations - not a single one of the 7 that have so far released their findings have found anything resembling a violation, including any of the type the CMP videos claim occur.

The states whose governors have tried to defund PP have found themselves in court on the losing side - in UT. They’re also facing scrutiny in LA as well.

Each of these efforts to find fault with PP has cost taxpayers tons of money and effort better spent elsewhere - like on public health, but instead they’re looking to continue the assault on PP.

It will not end until these anti-choice extremists get their way and shutter PP - depriving millions of health care in the process.

Hopefully, like Shirley Sherrod, justice will be served.

I walked into a PP office earlier to make a donation and told them that I thought Richards’ performance in that “hearing” yesterday was outstanding, and I also said how much I wished her mother was still alive to witness it. One thing I didn’t say was that it’s time to take the gloves off and fight these bastards with all they got. The vast majority (even Republican women that are too scared to admit it openly) support what Planned Parenthood does and will continue to do so.

The right is heavily invested in this lie and the media is heavily invested in pretending that the right hasn’t become batshit insane so, yes, PP will eventually be defunded. That defunding it will deprive millions of health care is considered a feature.

A cynic would suspect that the right’s masters won’t rest until they can make themselves feel even more superior with the sight of disease ridden beggars laying in gutters .

Would that be; “34 Days Until Obama Takes Away Our Guns,” or “Until the Rapture,” or something else? They have so many apocalyptic predictions out there that it’s hard to keep track of them. No, wait, I’ll bet it’s the election this time - unless the world ends before then.

//Thought I’d cheer everybody up:

From fortune.com

“A loophole in the 1970 Clean Air Act that absolves carmakers from criminal penalties means the Justice Department faces problems with jurisdiction when it comes to charging automakers with breaking pollution laws, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“Instead of pursuing a criminal case against Volkswagen VLKPY 2.14% , which would be the first-ever against an automaker for shirking emissions standards, prosecutors now are considering alternate legal approaches, such as charging Volkswagen with lying to regulators, the Journal reported.”

Interesting. Typically, when there’s a third party candidate that’s polling outside the margin of error, the polls will include a question asking who their supporters would vote for if they weren’t in the race. Curious to see how the undecideds break - typically it’s pretty close to 50/50, but in a three way race it can be somewhat unpredictable.

On a previous thread, someone mentioned going by the PP office in Spring, Texas. i graduated from a nearby high school (Klein). One of my friends was a daughter of a notorious pro-lifer. I’ve always wondered what happened to her, as her father, in addition to planting anti-abortion propaganda in the family front lawn (this was the late 1970s, mind you), also had a bad habit of beating his children. I still remember the bruises on my friend’s body.

Yeah, I don’t have a whole lot of respect for pro-lifers and it started early.

Hey if you didn’t watch that last video, this one will prove that they’re lying.

As I said from the outset, the BS videos are BS. All of them. From the get-go. There was never any credence to the claims, and the suspicious circumstances under how they were obtained shows that CMP engaged in illegality. That’s the only thing that the CMP videos show.

They are agitprop created by a smear merchant who has ties to domestic terrorists and anti-choice extremists.

Like the fanatical Tea Party wing of the House, Cruz is there to obstruct and self-promote. In all likelihood, Cruz will retire after a single term in the Senate. Now that he’s boosted his national profile and endeared himself to the insurgent elements of the base, he can pivot to the private sector and make more money as a professional conservative activist - as, for example, Jim DeMint did in 2012.

He definitely wasn’t an atheist. I am listening to the Kershaw bio as we speak actually.

He was an intelligent design creationist, if anything.

In a talk on 11/12 July1941 in Führerhauptquartier he said that “we don’t want to raise atheists” (Zum Atheismus wollen wir nicht erziehen.)

On 14.10.1941:

The educated man is always in awe of creation, which he can not decipher, but whose magnitude he feels; however, the uneducated is in danger of jumping to atheism, that is to an animalistic state, when he sees that the state… [etc.]

On 27.2.42:

What man has over the animals, possibly the most marvelous proof of his superiority, is that he has understood there must be a force of creation. One needs only to look through a telescope or a microscope: here one recognizes, that man has the ability to understand these laws. But one must humble oneself! If this creation force is identified with a fetish, then the concept of God collapses when the fetish fails
