I don’t blame him. It’s unfortunate but the R’s don’t want anything accomplished on this issue. To clarify, what’s unfortunate is he has to go around Congress not the EOs themselves.

I just saw this on FB -

It seems to me this is total horseshit, aimed at giving the stupid wing of the GOP a “moral” reason to lift the ban, when in fact the reason oil companies want the ban lifted is to increase profits on oil produced in the US, since the ban limits their offshore sales.

And of course, the oil wouldn’t be going to Israel, but rather into the world market. Why would Israel want to depend on US for oil?

I’m convinced that the basic cowardice of the ammosexuals is the only thing that prevents them from launching an armed insurrection right now. Executive orders on gun control may be enough to overcome their sense of self-preservation and push them right over the edge.
Then, when the shooting dies down in a week or two, after thousands of deaths and a million or so arrests, we might get some rational regulation of guns.
We paid a very high price for tolerating slavery as long as we did, maybe our historic idolatry of guns will carry a similar price.

Does any country directly ship oil to another country anymore? I would think it’s all done by businesses.

This chart ignores the troubles we’ve had with Israel when they attack our ships. It ignores the increase in oil production under Obama. I suspect the idea that the Russians are sending Israel oil to be wrong.

Right, during most of which the US oil production fell in absolute terms, but even more as a percentage of world production.

Basically, it’s a blatant attempt do get dumbass wingnuts to support increasing profits for oil companies by appealing to their hatred of Obama and their ‘love’ of Israel.

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - An unusually friendly ringtail caused park officials to shut down the natural entrance to Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports that the normally shy, nocturnal animal was approaching visitors near the cave entrance around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Not necessarily the ringtail in question.

Still BS.

As part of the Camp David Accords, Israel obtains oil from Egypt. It also has grown its natural gas reserves off the Israeli coast. And it obtains oil from other sources as well. The claim that they’re getting their oil from Russia comes from a Quora post.

There are reports indicating that Israel is importing 70% or more of its oil from Kurdistan.

Thing is, that Israel’s government no longer buys oil but rather is purchased by Israeli companies that then refine and resell or buy already refined oil products for distribution.

Just when you thought that Carson couldn’t show his ignorance any more, he doesn’t disappoint to disabuse you of that belief by showing that his ignorance knows no bounds.

And I’m done fending off the latest dead ender on Twitter who thinks that but for a few Jews with guns the Holocaust wouldn’t have occurred.

As if entire armies that fought and failed to stop the Nazi onslaught would have been an indicator that this simply isn’t true. It’s wishful and fanciful thinking that has no basis in reality.

Armed groups banding together to use combined arms to stand up to an aggressor. Where have we seen those before? Oh wait, the national armies of Poland, Netherlands, Denmark, Yugoslavia, Greece, Norway, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Russia, etc. And those armies failed to stop the Nazis before they managed to murder nearly 6 million Jews who lived in those countries and that had military industrial complexes set up to protect their nations from foreign threats.

Right, this argument should end with the fact that professional miltaries couldn’t stop the Nazis and as you have pointed out before that German laws regarding guns are irrelevant to the vast majority of Jews killed by the Nazis were not Germans. There’s a very good reason why this is a fairly new argument because if you had made in the war’s immediate aftermath, you would have gotten shit from Holocaust survivors but as the number of Holocaust survivors and thus the people who witnessed first hand what the Nazis were, it becomes easier and easier for charlatans like Ben Carson to make up lies about the Holocaust to suit his twisted agenda.

I actually do know a girl named Bambi. Her father’s a hunter. My brother remarked at that being sort of funny. It does though sound like more a girl’s name than boy’s name. I was actually reading about the man who voiced Bambi. He ended up being a USMC drill sergeant. Now how’s that for a war story. “Yeah, Bambi yelled at your grandpa and told him that your great grandma wouldn’t be there to help him.”

You know, call me crazy, but I don’t ever remember the “far-left” getting so much power in the DNC that there was serious talk of deposing Pelosi in favor of a “pure” Speaker. Say what you will about the woman, she ruled with an iron fist and got shit done because of it. When the chapter on Boehner is written, it’s going to be about careening from one crisis to the next, with very little of note in-between.

A coalition of Speakers would be a bizarre innovation. The House had three parties in, I believe, 1916. The Dems formed a coalition with the third party and kept the Speakership even though they were in the minority at the time.

I think arguably the only time the far left got control of the party was when the McGovern delegates controlled the 1972 convention and frankly that was something that needed to happen. The GOP’s been on a far right turn ever since Obama got elected and they’ve almost crossed the Atlantic.

And so it’s clear, I do NOT think modern conservatives are Nazis but modern American conservative ideology is an ideology of exclusion just like Nazism was. The same crap Hitler believed about Jews (without extermination) is much the same crap that many American cons believe about Muslims. The crap that they believe about immigrants? The same crap the Nazis believed about non-German migrants. Could go on and on but American conservatism always has been dating back to its support of the Alien and Sedition Acts been far more authortarian than American liberalism.

He hasn’t even criminalized or proposed banning a political party. Think about that considering there were moves to actually ban the Communist Party in the 1950’s. If Obama were a real tyrant, he would have shut down the government the minute the GOP gained control of the House and he certainly wouldn’t have let the Republicans run an opponent against him in 2012. There’s something really sick honestly about likening a man that has tons of Jewish advisers, friends, and colleagues to Hitler. Michelle’s own cousin is a Jewish convert for what it’s worth. Oh and not to mention that Obama has easily been the most tolerant racially, sexual orientation, and gender wise president in American history. Contrast that to the GOP which has a majority whip that wanted to be David Duke without the baggage and has people in it who believe Gays are demonic and has a talking head (Limbaugh) who calls feminists, “feminazis.”

Patrice O’Neal in “Elephant in the Room” live concert was so funny about this: every time black Americans are close to criticizing Obama, white people call him Hitler or something and then black Americans feel like they have to support him. O’Neal said something like ‘I mean I thought I was going to get white slaves; you know, a white woman: “Susan go upstairs and warm my bed while I go outside and look your husband Philip in the eye to decide if I’m going to sell him today”.’

I actually did a paper on this LH. The change in perception of how Jews were potrayed on film regarding the Holocaust. The earliest film I used was the first adaption of The Diary of Anne Frank and the last being Inglorious Basterds(which I know was highly fictional but the class was about how we remember war and that movie although obviously very fictional was of course a movie about WWII.

On impulse I bought one of these at 75% off, or forty bucks shipped, from Amazon.

It’s a syma x11c and for that price you get the copter with a built-in 2MP camera, a battery, transmitter, and a brace of spare propellers. The thing even has 6 axis gyroscopic stabilization. For forty bucks.

Yes, it works very well indoors (A bit wind sensitive for outdoor use), That I can buy that much tech for that little money is amazing to me.

re: #13 Shiplord Kirel

We paid a very high price for tolerating slavery as long as we did, maybe our historic idolatry of guns will carry a similar price.

I’ve been reading a lot about slavery in the last week and I think the gun <-> slavery link is worth exploring. One of the things I’ve read about the 2nd Amendment is that the South really wanted it so it could keep local militias intact as an everpresent threat to enslaved people of real violence if they were to rebel for their freedom.

I read Ed Baptist’s “The Half Has Never Been Told,” and it’s kind of a socioeconomic history of slavery. His overall point was that slavery was not fading away, as has been argued, but was just getting bigger and bigger. He uses the growth of cotton as his example. That was facilitated by expanding into new lands that were not specifically set aside for slavery. Then the slaves were marched southwest and made to pick the cotton. I was amazed…from 1790, where the average cotton slave picked less than 50 pounds a day to 50 years later, where slaves picked around 200 pounds a day, the enslavers (that’s what Baptist calls the plantation owners) really worked their slaves very very hard.

We can see the same thing with guns, too. Places where guns used to not be allowed, now they’re allowed. I read about a professor at my alma mater (University of Texas at Austin) who said he wouldn’t be teaching there next fall because of a new law allowing concealed carry on campus. It’s the modern-day equivalent of expanding slavery. What’s missing (but I suspect is easily found) is an analysis of the sales by gun manufacturers. They must be making bank. I haven’t looked, because, frankly, the whole gun thing upsets me. I won’t have one in my house, but I feel like I’m being pressured to get one because who of my gun nut neighbors might actually be packing heat?

Not sure why, but that reminded me of this:

Marge: I have a responsibility to raise these children right and, unless you change, I’ll have to tell them their father is… well, wicked.

I need to look at that book. I think you or someone else mentioned it recently. But you’re right, slavery was not dying at all. In fact, it’s easy to argue that left ignored, it would have gotten even worse. As long as slave owners kept on telling themselves that A) slavery was Constitutional and B) okay with God, it was going to last. I do need to watch that mockumentary CSA again, it was quite darkly humorous.

When asked why Carson is just telling the story now, Williams explained it’s simply not Carson’s nature to talk about himself like a hero. Carson probably just didn’t want to “seem braggadocios.”

Not exactly related, but I heard a compelling lecture a couple of years ago in which the speaker laid out the argument that the slave population was getting too big, so aside from insuring continued political influence in new states, the slave holders in the south wanted to make sure there would continue to be a viable market for their human property by adding new slave states to the union.

A minor quibble. Hitler was never elected to anything. He was appointed as Reichskanzler through a shabby political deal and got the job because two previous Reichskanzlers (von Papen and von Schleicher) essentially bamboozled the already-senile President Hindenburg.

Could be. I think he has decided to throw down the gauntlet and settle it once and for all. He has the support of the military, most (though not all) of law enforcement, and an actual majority of the American people. This has to be settled. Soon. We can’t continue to sacrifice 30,000 people a year, including hundreds of children, to appease a minority of fetishistic cultists and conspiracy believers.
