My price of admission would be a pair of sticks and a few minutes alone with the drum kit. But, alas, I haven’t sat behind a set in years.

Bush is not exactly Mister Current Events(From 2014):
The Federal Government Now Employs the Fewest People Since 1966

Given the grinding budget battles of recent years, it’s almost hard to believe the federal government now employs the fewest people since the mid-1960s. Yet according to Friday’s jobs report, the federal government now employs 2,711,000 people (excluding non-civilian military). Among the economy’s largest job sectors, it was the only one to shrink over the past year…

And in the “OMG, is she STILL EVEN ALIVE” division, Phyllis Schlafly has sent out an essay explaining why Fantasy Football is a threat to America. This is just too funny..

“Fantasy football means imaginary games played by imaginary teams in imaginary leagues, which are made up of real players whose playing statistics are compiled from real football games. So instead of betting on the actual NFL games, fantasy football participants bet on something that depends on the actual NFL games.”

Now why is this bad you may ask…. I’m waiting… Yes, you in the back, I see you’re curious….

“It’s illegal in most places to bet on actual NFL games, but fantasy football enables participants to do something similar by betting on fantasy teams that win or lose based on how real NFL players perform each week in real NFL games. Participants then boost the audience for sports channels by wasting untold hours watching out-of-town teams that affect the outcome of their bets on fantasy football.”

Otherwise they would be out converting the Gheys, or something. I guess. Maybe.

Now I’ve nothing against the office game, I do have some concerns about the recent trend for 1 day leagues, and the way some have already been manipulated, but that’s not her point.

Highly recommend the entire article, it’s a quick read….

Interesting, but I’ll have to think about it a bit… Part of me is really intrigued, I’ve met several cave divers, and most have exceptional technical skills, but a some of them tend to be rather arrogant jerks also, and if you don’t measure to their standard, they have no use for you.

Republican presidential contender Dr. Ben Carson has put his public campaign events on hold for two more weeks to go on book tour for his new tome “A More Perfect Union” and catch up on fundraising events.

The campaign has been careful to separate campaign events and the book tour, and doesn’t want to classify the tour as related to the campaign in any way.

This week he is catching up on fundraising events and will be back on his book tour next week making stops in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. So for the next two weeks, Carson won’t be appearing at any public “campaign events.”

It’s almost like Carson knows that even though he’s in second fucking place in GOP primary polls it’s still the Republican Party, and therefore the chance of him actually getting the nomination are slim to none. So he’s taking a break to cash in while he’s still hot.

Schools in deep rural Africa, infrastructure, the whole nine.

I’m seeing all this wealth in the United States that could go to good things. But the wealth is going to methods to create even more wealth. How far does it go? How much wealth does one man, woman or family have to have before it’s enough? In the United States, the answer to that question is ‘as much as you can get, there is no limit.’

A lot of the new, high tech wealth has been active in philanthropy(Social Venture Partners, etc.). They handle their philanthropy like a business, which has its share of problems….but the Gates’ and some of his employees have been modeling more philanthropic behavior.

One key is getting people to switch over from asset accumulation mindset to making a difference mode early. Most people don’t do that until their late 50s or 60s….it’s trying to do it early…

I’m familiar with the Gates Pledge. I did paint a broad brush about the super-wealthy in the United States. I cannot discount the good work being done by Gates, Warren Buffet, and even Charles Koch who funds public television and major science grants.

Still, there’s something wrong. Maybe it’s me, growing up and still living in the center of ski resort Colorado with all the obscene wealth I see everyday. I’ll admit, I’m biased.

Fun fact: A few years ago Bill Gates showed up to the school my pops teaches at with Melinda. They went to the front office and introduced themselves, then asked which class they thought they should sit in on, y’know, to observe. The principal - without hesitation - recommended my pops, who was teaching a sophomore-level U.S. History class at the time. So Bill and Melinda were shown to the classroom, walked right in in the middle of my pops teaching, and walked to the back and just stood there - Bill, Melinda, and the principal. My pops paused a little, saw what was going on, and just kept on like nothing was going on and kept on teaching.

My father had lunch with Bill and Melinda that day.

I’ll never forget my pops telling me about it. “I hope they liked me,” he told me at the end of the story, with a grin.
