Rand Paul: Electing Bernie Sanders Could Lead to “Mass Genocide”

Painting Sanders as a monster

Sen. Bernie Sanders describes himself as a “democratic socialist,” with a political philosophy similar to those of countries like Denmark and Sweden, where this form of socialism has been a proven system of workable government for many years. It’s not communism, folks, and it has nothing in common with the totalitarian dictatorships of the Soviet Union or Maoist China.

That’s what makes the latest attack by far right Sen. Rand Paul especially dishonest and creepy, because he not only compares Sanders explicitly to Mao and Pol Pot, he says electing Sanders will lead to “mass genocide.” Political attacks don’t get much more extreme than this, and this sort of rhetoric cheapens and demeans the gravity of the word “genocide.”

“It amazes me and it actually kind of scares me,” Paul said. “I’ve been spending more time going after Bernie and socialism because I don’t want America to succumb to the notion that there’s anything good about socialism. I think it’s not an accident of history that most of the times when socialism has been tried that attendant with that has been mass genocide of people or any of those who object to it. Stalin killed tens of millions of people. Mao killed tens of millions of people. Pol Pot killed tens of millions of people. When you have a command economy, when everything is dictated from one authority, that’s socialism, but it doesn’t come easily to those who resist it.”

I said downstairs:

You know what would cause mass democide?

Unregulated Ayn Randian free market driving down wages, mass unemployment or people working for poverty pay, and the inevitable uprising of desperate, starving people which would be brutally crushed by private armies.

Eklceting Rand to anything leads to mass stupidity. Fuck him for coparming Sanders to Mao and Stalin when Rand knows full well that democratic socialists do exist and without democide.

Genocide. He keeps using that word. Bernie Sanders lost family in an honest-to-goodness actual genocide. You might have heard of it Rand. It was called the Holocaust.

And being a socialist had nothing to do with it. And Sanders isn’t a socialist in the Soviet, Chinese, Vietnamese, or other red-bloc nations, but in the progressive European sense.

But thankfully, we might not have Rand involved in politics for much longer. His burn rate is unsustainable and he’s shifting campaign funds from his Senate race to the WH race - leaving us hopeful that he fails with both.

Oh, and Bernie’s running a surplus with his burn rate - he has more saved up than Rand has burned through.

He really is pathetic as all are these conservatives likening Bernie to tyrants. Bernie is no different in ideology from someone in the European left. The right loves to make every single socialist out to be another Mao or Stalin because they know fear sells and that’s why people vote against socialists like Sanders whose solutions if people really listened to htem do make sense but they get scared when fear merchants like Randy Rand pull shit shit.

Never going to vote for her, but I will give Fiorina credit for being the only GOP candidate who has been willing to do this:

“The Muslims are really raising heck right now,” the event attendee told Fiorina, according to video recorded by CNN. “They want to change our whole country to suit them. If they don’t like the United States, get out of here. Take your camel and beat it!”

“People are so frustrated and angry with the immigration situation. Let me say that one of the most important things about this nation is that we judge people as individuals,” Fiorina said in response.

“I’m not willing to condemn any group of people. I’m willing to judge each individual,” she later added.

Is the Irish side of me not allowed to tel the German, Slovak, and Slovene side of me about socialism since Ireland has never been a communist state? This guy is an American, he is a Latino-American but being a Latino-American doesn’t give him some magic wand that makes him some how an expert and it especially gives him no right to liken a Jewish man, one who had family perish in the Holocaust the Nazis. Even if he were Jewish, this would be wrong for the very simple reason that Bernie’s views are nothing like Hitler, Mao, or Stalin’s. It’s clear to anyone who doesn’t buy all socialists= blood thirsty tyrants that Bernie’s tradition is more in line with Scanadvian social democrats or British style Labour members like you know that guy Bush was tight wih, Blair I believe.

44

Conservatives know that they are incapable of debating Bernie’s views like adults so they resort to likening him to some of the worst tyrants in history. That’s why they do it. Cowards all of them. They know that there’s a large subsect of the American population that shivers to itself when they hear the word socialist so every socialist has to be the second incarnation of Mao or Stalin.

I think Dana really thinks all Latin American countries are socialist. The irony as I got using her logic that I have more credibility on the subject. I don’t claim to know more about socialism than this Representative because of my heritage, I know more because I have educated myself on the subject from sources that don’t paint every socialist as Mao 2.0.

No, it’s worse than that VB, it’s actually her being racist thinking that all Latin countries are socialist or all Latinos are immigrants from those countries. What struck me was that it was a question about an accomplishment that one was most proud of. Granted, it was about an enemy one was most proud to make - apparently he only heard the word “enemy” and went instantly to “kill it.” No matter how I try to parse his answer to make it more palatable, I can’t. It has nothing to do with the appropriateness of his action on the battlefield during a war 40 years ago and everything to do with how he felt that answer was appropriate for that question right now.

You wouldn’t have gotten away with that crap with the war a more closer memory because politicians of both parties would have fought in it and known how offensive it would be to compare a policy difference to the enemy of a war that we had recently fought. Unfortunately, as time goes on, the memory gets dimmer and it becomes more easy to throw out stupid comps. Take income tax and slavery. The income tax nowadays is derided by its critics as being like slavery. There were certainly criticis of the income tax amendment but there weren’t many idiots who made outlandish comments that the income tax was akin to slavery.

Doesn’t stop folks from thinking that flat tax is the best thing since sliced cheese, or that it effectively results in a massive redistribution of the tax burden from rich to everyone else. Or else it results in massive deficits. Or both - leaving the poor in an even worse situation because safety net services come under fire.

Oh, and I love how some folks think that Fair Tax will help everyone, including the little guy, because it’s not being proposed by the rich (ignoring who’s pushing the proposals, and who’d actually benefit the most - in gross and net terms).

All I needto know about conservatives and how they view the average schmo is how many of them want a high sales tax. The sales tax is that one tax tat efects us in our daily lives whether we’re buying gas, getting a burger, buying tickets for a show, or having a nice cold beer. This is a consumer based economy. A high sales tax would discourage consumption.

Yeah, they all seem to ignore that folks with low income pay a higher percentage of their income/savings to goods/services than those who are rich.

You’d need to standardize definitions and treatment of goods and services. The Streamlined Sales Tax Project shows the limitations of even that, as some of the member states tax some stuff, but not others. And then you’d have to expand the tax base sufficiently or else the tax rate would be even higher than the 30% that would be a minimum so as to equal revenue from the departed income tax.

It is, in a word, BS. The tax rate would mean that on a car purchase, you’d be paying 30% more for the car - on top of the already existing taxes and fees.

You’d also force every state that piggybacks on the IRC to amend their laws to conform to the IRC before it was repealed, or else institute their own law (and that’s most states that have income taxes).

Sales taxes aren’t so easy to administer - just ask the states that have them. And there’s lots of rules promulgated to address them too.

Once you start talking about carve outs for food and other basics, because that’d affect the poor, other groups start demanding their own carveouts, and pretty soon you’ve got a scheme with all manner of reduced tax rates, exemptions, or other deductions that starts to look as complex as the IRC that they’re all clamoring to replace - because they know that a sales tax would be a massive tax cut for the rich.

That’s assuming Hispanics get out and actually vote in number. I am hoping they do.

The problem for the DNC, as always, is motivating people to vote. I know Bernie will step up and urge his followers to vote for Hillary, but whether they do or not? I’m not so sure. Therein lies the problem.

All the Republican candidates are the same, policy-wise. And that voting block will have no problem voting for whoever is their party’s choice.

Create a larger poor population and you create tons of social problems that in today’s extremely mobile world affects even the well off.

It used to be that poor people, and their problems were segregated from the predominately white, well off, picket fence surrounded areas, so people of influence seldom saw the social problems. That’s where the false idea of an idyllic past comes from.

Going OT, sort of, though this kind of speaks to some of the things Bernie Sanders talks about, and I need to vent. Grrr.

My son just finished up a program for adults with varying disabilities. He spent the last 6 months working in a store of a major grocery chain. Not as an official employee of that company but through the state via this program. Even though he trained and wore the uniform. The state paid his salary through this program. They also helped him prepare to put in an application for this chain online and gave him minimal coaching to help him through the interview process. He actually has been hired by the company now, which is good news. However this is what pisses me off to no end.

Before he can begin working he has to go through 20 hours of training at a facility over an hour from our home. To stock shelves for minimum wage. For less than 20 hours a week. The average will be 2-3 days of work a week, maybe 8 hour shifts probably less. He has been working in one of their stores for SIX MONTHS already, why on earth should he have to go through all this? He and I both have severe anxiety related to driving in fast moving or heavy traffic and the times of his training coincide with some of the worst traffic times in an area of Metro Atlanta notorious for accidents and traffic delays. It means I will have to take him there and wait for 4 hours one day and 8 hours the other two days. I am not making this trip 6 damned times instead of three so I have to wait on him. And let’s just say my Husband is being an ass and really unhelpful on this. So two people with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, in a car flying through traffic ought to be a blast.

This kind of crap is why companies can’t “afford” to pay their employees decent money. I wonder how much this freaking training costs per employee? I worked in retail for 25 yrs. We never did this shit, we brought people in, schooled them on basic policies and then they learned on the job. We also got paid more than minimum wage. WTF? Doing some digging into other companies and most of them do this now? Again, WTF? This is not complicated work, it’s entry level work and learn as you go. I could see if it was for management, or even cashiering, but for a part time stock clerk who has been doing the job for 6 months? Sigh. And this is going to cost me money I don’t have in gas, we’re not doing well at all financially, my husband hasn’t held a job beyond a couple independent contractor jobs since July 5.

All the work and training my son did is being dismissed as nothing and not counting for anything and it’s pissing me off. Sigh. Scream. Throw something…..sorry, I’m so frustrated right now I want to smack someone.

TYRANNY IN FRANCE!!

Famous French Weatherman Publicly Doubts Climate Change, Goes on ‘Forced Holiday’

A well-known French weatherman has been put on an indefinite “forced holiday” after writing a book criticizing climate-change research and saying that, even if it does exist, it will probably have some very positive effects, including more tourists, lower death rates, lower electricity bills in the winter, and higher-quality wine.

Philippe Verdier, famous for delivering nightly forecasts on the state-run news channel France 2, has authored a new book casting doubt on the research of world climatologists. Climat Investigation, which is set to be released in time for the December U.N. climate summit in Paris, claims that misleading climate data has “taken the world hostage.”

In a promo video for the new book, Verdier offers a teaser (translated by The Telegraph): “Every night I address five million French people to talk to you about the wind, the clouds, and the sun. And yet there is something important, very important that I haven’t been able to tell you, because it’s neither the time nor the place to do so.”

Verdier’s views led France Télévisions, the country’s state broadcaster, to take him off the air.

“I received a letter asking me not to come [to work],” Verdier said in an interview with French RTL radio. “This is a direct extension of what I say in my book, namely that any contrary views must be eliminated.”

[…]

Weathermen… are TV personalities. Yet to the average person they are supposed to be experts.

Anyway, in my opinion, even though he may have temporarily lost his TV gig, he trolled his employers perfectly. He is now a martyr and his book will be famous.

I suppose Rand Paul could use this example of SOCIALIST TOTALITARIANISM! silencing its critics.

I think Hillary’s best choice for running mate would be someone young and fresh. Someone maybe not with the thickest record but someone who has potential. I’m gonna be pushing Julian. I really think he’s her best option. He’d be good for Bernie in the event he gets the nomination too.

I have to disagree on Warren, she’s better off in the Senate, where she can actually continue to be an advocate for the American people and get shit done, than running on the campaign trail this year and getting mowed down by the Clinton campaign.

I’d hoped for one of the Castro brothers to be out there running this year, so to see Julian being treated as a serious VP choice tells me they have bright futures in the party. A total departure from the BS we’ve been told again and again about how the GOP is in a better position because it has so much “fresh blood” at the state and local levels. Of course, these were some of the same voices who thought Scott Walker had a serious chance at being president.

That’s great to know. Speaking of San Antonio, you’re from Texas IIRC, definitely a city to visit right? My kid brother may get the chance to go there or a band concert and I am trying to talk him into doing it since when is he ever gong to get that kind of chance again and it’s certainly one I never got at that age.

I love San Antonio and never miss an opportunity to visit the city. The River Walk is a must for one evening at least.

I still believe that climate change is too slow for the collective human decision making process to act in a mitigating fashion. Which is why nothing of real substance has happened on the mitigating front.

That doesn’t mean I don’t think climate change is important to discuss in our public sphere.

Yet I think the best I can hope for is that over time enough of our society will act in a way to be proactive in building a better future than in the case of absolutely nothing being done.

My best case scenario is that adaptation strategies are put in place that actually work. And by “actually work” I mean keeping society together, staving off mass starvation, finding ways of relocating the displaced, etc.

The DNC has been grooming Julian Castro for higher office for years. I’m convinced the whole reason he was chosen to keynote the Democratic Convention in 2012 was because they were planning on running him for governor in 2014, which obviously didn’t happen. It’s no accident that he left for DC right after Wendy Davis won the state Democratic primary for governor. They got him out of Texas and gave him exposure to the how the federal government works, which he wasn’t going to get in another mayoral term.

Whoever gets the nomination would be stupid to pass him up as VP. He’d be a great choice.

251
freetoken  Oct 16, 2015 • 1:48:12pm

One of the more disturbing trends, to me, is the rise of the so-called “fake” media, that is, vested party websites that appear to be like traditional news sites.

Now, this is not a totally new phenomena. Way back in the good ol’ days of paper there were plenty of magazines and news print periodicals that were dodgy but pretended to be real journalism.

Yet those tabloids at the checkout counter, with the aliens on the front page shaking the hand of the President - those rags were easily discernible as nonsense (well, by most of us anyway.)

Anyway, today, in the era of the Twitterization of Civilization, trying to sort legit claims versus idiocy is much more difficult.

And even if a “news source” isn’t completely dodgy it now seems naive writers and the total abandonment of good journalistic practices is now the norm:

“Energy Live News” declares:

Greenpeace Co-founder: CO2 does not cause global warming

The increase in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is not related to global warming and there is no definitive proof.

That’s the view of Greenpeace Co-founder and former leader Patrick Moore who told ELN increasing CO2 levels is good for trees and crops on earth.

He added: “In this century there has been zero warming from a statistically significant basis and the UK Met Office says so yet one third of all human CO2 emissions have been put into the atmosphere in the last 18 years. So it doesn’t look like a lockstep causal relationship between increasing CO2 and warming of the earth.”

Mr Moore said he supports gas and nuclear as it doesn’t matter if CO2 emission levels are brought down “quite a bit” in the long run.

He believes the future will show the hysteria over climate change is a “complete fabrication”.

[…]

CO2 is ‘good’

This guy, Patrick Moore (not to be confused with the very old, rotund, and venerable BBC television presenter, nor to be confused with the English actor of some fame) has been running around and saying this for some time.

So why is this now in the “news”?

Oh, look, it’s the Bratfrats:

GREENPEACE FOUNDER: LET’S CELEBRATE CO2

Following his interview with Breitbart London, Greenpeace founder Dr. Patrick Moore addressed the Global Warming Policy Foundation in London last night, telling them why he left the environmentalist group and became sceptical of man-made global warming.

Oh, suddenly my head hurts.

Many years ago I had to create a program for handling orders for a bedding manufacturer. At that time here in Ontario we had a Federal Sales Tax (FST) and Provincial Sales Tax (PST).

Some of the manufactured items were FST exempt, some were PST exempt and some were both. Some customers were FST exempt, some were PST exempt and some were both. I believe a few of the manufactured items were exempt from exemptions.

Oh the fun I had trying to get the sales taxes to come out properly on each order.

Also note that sales taxes are inflationary. Sales taxes force businesses to spend time and money to calculate and remit those taxes. Time and money that takes away from the bottom line. So they raise prices to cover this nonprofitable activity.

That is a good point and I’ll point out he was mayor of a town so he does have some executive experience too. Obviously Burlington, Vermont is different than D.C in the kinds of interests nad personalities he’d have to deal with but it’s not like he’s never been in charge of a government before.

Burlington VT has more residents, and a more complicated budget, than Wasilla AK. And Bernie was able to the job he was elected to, he didn’t have to bring in a professional City Manager to do it for him.
