House Passes Budget Deal Despite Kamikaze Caucus Opposition

All 167 “no” votes were from crazed Republican teabaggers

I’m so old I remember when it was not even news that the House of Representatives passed a budget bill to keep the federal government funded. It was just what they were supposed to do. No big deal.

But nowadays, when the Republican Party has gone full tilt batshit loony, every budget deal has turned into an exercise in brinksmanship, as the Kamikaze Caucus threatens to shut down the government unless their latest extortion demands are met.

Luckily, we seem to have avoided the circular firing squad this time.

We just have to wait out the faux-fillibuster by Paul or Cruz in the Senate and then wait and watch the House do nothing else for the next 12 months or so beyond rescinding the ACA another 50 times.

It’s the same as the Michael Brown case. Their narrative is the that student initiated it and therefore is totally to blame regardless of how the deputy acted. I imagine we’d being hearing the exact same arguments if he had pulled out a gun and shot her down in cold blood.

O/T

It looks like the official wingnut story on the Spring Valley High is that the girl attacked the officer with her scary black blackness and forced him to defend himself from her. My mom just tried to sell this to me.

A magical video none of us have seen supposedly makes this all very clear, despite the fact the first video gives us an uninterrupted and clear view of the girl, the officer and where their hands are at all times prior to his assault on her. At no point does she attack the officer

From now until the death of the universe, the right wing story is locked into place: She attacked him and the fucking libtards hate teh police and blacklivesmatter kills cops so suck it libtards we have our story.

Let’s play guess. Where is this quote from?

In many areas poverty and its attendant ills afflict large numbers of Americans. Distrust and fear plague us all. Our inner cities teem with poor, crowded in slums. Many rural areas are run down and barren of challenge or opportunity. Minorities among us—particularly the black community, the Mexican-American, the American Indian—suffer disproportionately.

Same document

Air and water pollution, already acute in many areas, require vigorous state and federal action, regional planning, and maximum cooperation among neighboring cities, counties and states. We will encourage this planning and cooperation and also spur industrial participation by means of economic incentives.

Bee artificial insemination! To make more mite biters!

For around a decade, beekeepers have seen around one-quarter to one-third of their colonies die every year. There are many potential causes for the die-off, but most scientists agree the parasitic Varroa mite is a major factor. But, Purdue University scientists have bred special bees that are biting back

[…]

Hunt and his colleagues have been breeding the special mite-biters since 2007. Scientists recently enlisted beekeepers to compare the mite-biting bees with commercially-available ones, and the study showed promising results.

“The mite biters had twice the survival of the commercial colonies,” Hunt said, “and they had a third of the level of mites.”

During its annual “Artificial Insemination Fest,” Purdue makes the genetic material from the mite-biter queens available to serious beekeepers, who then breed and distribute their own hygenic honeybees.

Modern TV media. It’s dead Jim.

Especially on politics, one of those things you don’t talk about in public. Those old guys in the past, like Conkrite, Murrow, Huntley-Brinkley, etc. will not be coming back. They had no competition and could say more or less what they wanted as ratings didn’t hurt. The medium was new and selling itself. That will not happen again. The internet will see to it.

I got a case of PTSD walking to the store for Halloween candy today. A guy pulled into a parking lot and left his livestock trailer parked on the sidewalk and the motor of his pickup running. I spoke to him, told him he can’t park on the sidewalk, called him an asshole when he was dismissive. And I screamed at a guy whose left turn encroached on my crosswalk too soon.

When I got back I ate some therapeutic Halloween candy and felt better.

‘Truth’ Bombs at the Box Office | Page Six

The truth hurts — “Truth” is a turkey.

After unenthusiastic reviews, the revisionist history of Dan Rather’s demise at CBS News had a weak opening weekend with a pathetic per-theater average of just $11,000.

Younger-skewing publications like Paste echoed many of the mixed reactions in pointing out that the film “feels phony, but doesn’t offer up any entertainment value in the place of the honesty it’s lacking.”

The movie — starring Robert Redford as Rather and Cate Blanchett as his longtime producer Mary Mapes — has grossed a paltry $66,000 in limited release. But its prospects are dim as it goes nationwide on Oct. 30, because “Truth” will have to compete with “Suffragette,” “Burnt” and a few other new features.
