Carson to Media: “Go Jump in a Lake”

It’s not fair to ask him to explain what he’s written about himself
Politics • Views: 52,365

Ben Carson is sick and tired of people asking questions about what he’s written, and after last night’s debate he told reporters that if they persist in asking him about his autobiography he’ll tell them to fu… uh, I mean “go jump in a lake.”

“From this point on, I get to determine what the hook is. I get to determine whether I’m going to answer what I consider silly questions,” Carson explained. “If people have substantial things to talk about, I will. But if they want to talk about, well, you know, ‘Back in this book in 1990, you know, your mother got into some trouble, and can we talk about that?’ No, I’m going to say go jump in a lake.”

Yahoo News pointed out that many of the stories that have raised questions came from Carson’s own books and speeches.

“Yeah, but I’m not going to talk about them,” Carson said. “I’m going to choose not to talk about them, because I would be talking about them from now until the election and I’m not going to let people drive this. I’m not going to let them drive it.”

Because you know that autobiography everybody keeps pestering him about? It’s not really an autobiography.

Yahoo then asked Carson why he wrote stories about his past that he no longer wants to discuss.

“Because before it was an autobiography, and it’s not an autobiography now because it’s already been written,” Carson said.

Um, what? That there is a Palin-worthy word salad.

Dear Librul Media,

You should be focusing on Ben Carson’s legislative record rather than ‘gotcha’ questions about his personal history.

Sincerely,

How dare you question me about the things I wrote (or ghost-wrote) years back in my autobiography and other biographical materials published contemporaneously.

I want to be president because, things.

This is all a grand way to divert attention from his total lack of qualifications for the office he is aspiring to by making him look like a persecuted martyr.

Carson needs a good reality check. You wrote them in your autobiography. You said these things about yourself. Yeah the media’s going to question you on it as they should. I think Carson just wants everyone to tell him he’s awesome because he’s a neurosurgeon. And you know what, good on him for becoming one but that doesn’t mean his credibility shouldn’t be questioned especially politically.

If Carson does somehow manage to get elected, the White House will need some renovations. For instance, the Oval Office:

I honestly think the media does not go hard enough on Carson. This is a man who has repeatedly said he believes modern America resembles Nazi Germany. A man who blames drug abuse on political correctness. A man who said that ACA was the worst thing since slavery. He’s just as if not more of an extremist whack job than Trump, Cruz, and many of the others are..

Did I actually see Dark_Falcon call an upset military veteran a partisan hack in the last thread?

Wow. If I was Dark, I don’t think I’d be calling anyone a partisan hack.

As far as I could tell the guy never identified what party he was from, he was just upset and said he didn’t want any Republicans to thank him for his military service because they do nothing for returning veterans.

I thought Dark sided with military veterans? Maybe from a certain party only…but then that would be partisan.

Damn, it can be hard figuring Dark out. I’d ask him, but he took off.

He gets really upset when the reality of what his party is pointed out to him. I mean I get it. He feels a certain loyalty to the GOP.the way a lot of people do their favorite sports teams but he’s gotta realize that people like that veteran are going to take umbrage when the GOP likes to parade out veterans and military members as if they support them all the while having voted to cut their benefits that they have earned.. I’m getting more and more impatient with him the more time goes. I like him as a person but he really needs to realize why his virtually no one on this blog outside of him wants the GOP take the WH back and there’s a very good reason for that.

Has anyone done a back of the envelope calculation on how big Trump’s deportation force would have to be to deport 11 million undocumented aliens in a year or four years or however long it is supposed to take? Also, how would the force operate? Roadblocks where they ask for people’s papers? Raids on work places? I also want to understand the transportation required. Do we just drive them down to the Mexican border (wherever they are from, I suppose) and drop them of?

Ben Carson is starting to reach Sarah Palin-level of annoying:

Ben Carson came to Wisconsin ready to rumble with Donald Trump. Since Carson surged to a tie for first place with Trump in national and Iowa polls, the real estate mogul has been attacking the neurosurgeon in media interviews and on Twitter. And the Carson campaign thought Tuesday night would be the time to respond.

“We were kind of hoping he would [attack]. We were all set to really go after him,” Carson campaign manager Barry Bennett told me in the spin room after the debate. According to Bennett, Carson planned on telling Trump: “I saved 15,000 lives in the operating room. And you don’t appreciate my service, but I wouldn’t trade a single one of them for all of your money. Money’s not important to me. It’s not what’s important to most Americans.”

If I were in the media, I’d ask Carson why he thinks giving a whiny speech at CPAC qualifies him to be president? He really is flat out not qualified for the job. I am sick of hearing “Oh he’s a neurosurgeon.” Okay fine, and that’s admirable but you know what, that doesn’t mean I’d want Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama being the chief of neurosurgery at my local hospital. The only thing that separates me and Carson’s qualifications for president is our ages, that’s all. and I mean every word of that. This man has never even considered a run for any office before this and he thinks he can just be president. And he has the arrogance to say “Well the Founders never had experience either.” First off, they did, secondly you’re no George Washington, Ben. And finally the country and world is a lot different now n 2015 tan it was in 1789.

If he thinks Charles and the rest of us are wrong about his precious widdle Republican party, then I would at least like to know why. Anyhow, I did not watch the debate last night though I did catch a summary of it. I remain not impressed with any of the guys. Marco the “reasonable moderate” who loves bragging about his humble immigrant parents can’t bring himself to condemn Trump wanting to deport all illegals but a blue blood like Jeb Bush can. I mean I don’t like Jeb at all but what Marco does just like Mitt did in 2012 isn’t leadership. It’s playing both sides of the GOP debate and then trying to act “above it” while flinging stupid poo at the President (accusing him of respecting the Ayatollah more than the PM of Israel who BTW Marco knows full well treats our president with zero respect.).

And just how are even True Patriots gonna react to a government authority kicking down doors and dragging people off screaming? Especially as there are bound to be more than a few mistakes made when they are dealing that many people…

Anyhow, I see a lot about how “intolerant” a lot of this generation of student activists are to opposing points of view. Okay, I’ll humor this and assume that this is correct. There’s a lot of rightful gripes about casual racism and racial harassment. Those griping at the students should ask themselves how they would respond if they were in that situation. It’s easy to talk about being “tolerant” to all forms of speech when you’re not the one being called a n-word or being treated with scorn because of your skin color.

Nah, it isn’t any weirder than anything else going on in the GOP. BeachDem teased me last night for having a crush on Johnny. I just cover him because of the familiarity of living in the state he has been a career politician in. We are about the same age, and I swear I’ve had to read or hear about him my entire life.

I have never liked the guy and never voted for him, but I figured he’d be the oddball in this race and that he would stir stuff up. He has to a degree, but not like I thought. I was hoping he could bump out the likes of Paul and Cruz, but that show how crazy the party really is. They don’t want a moderate at all.

Now I wonder how long he’ll be in the race. I hope he hangs in just to keep pissing Trump off. But maybe The DonaldTM will just write him a big check to go away. /

I, too, have known him all of his political career. Had a friend whose parents LOVED him and had all kinds of fundraisers for him when he first ran for the House. Have friends who knew him and the people he dated in college (one of my friends went out with him once—that was enough for her) and used to tell me all kinds of tales about his nasty attitude, over-the-top cheapness, etc.

The only things I’ll give him are:

1. He’s not dumb like the rest of the clowns
2. He actually has experience

But, he’s a horrible, mean little man—which makes it all the more surprising that the wingers don’t like him! I guess his actual intelligence is enough of a detriment to allow them to overlook his obnoxious personality, which is really right in their wheelhouse.

Trump told a story during the debate that Ike deported a million and a half people three times because they kept coming back, and the final time they were sent so far down south they never came back. has anyone fact checked that claim? It sounds crazy.

That would be the charmingly named “Operation Wetback.” Many sources report far fewer illegals being deported. Generally they were just dumped over the border, with absolutely no resources-occasionally they were dumped in the desert in the middle of summer with an equal lack of resources, and several dozen died.
There was at some point coordination with the Mexican government which moved the deportees to central Mexico where there was a need for labor.

Generally, I’d say yes, it’s crazy.

Trump, who supposedly wanted the callsign Humble, was assigned Mogul. Carson, who sought One Nation, instead gets Eli.

re: #106 Stanley Sea Toujours

What a great cat box!

It is indeed!

Speaking of cats & boxes, one of mine got stuck in a box yesterday. Whenever I get deliveries with large boxes I save them, then turn them upside down with the opened side’s flaps folded and the still-taped side facing up. The cats love to sleep on them in the kitchen, especially the older b&w one—she acts like it’s a freaking throne.

Anyway, there’s this this tiny shallow dish that I give them milk in and I had set it on top of the box about a week ago. So yesterday I start hearing this weird scratching noise coming from the kitchen. WTF? I get up and go look in there, but everything looks normal. Then I hear it again and notice the tape holding the box shut had been opened and the milk dish was gone (that would have been the younger cat trying to pull the “stickies” off the box—she loves any kind of adhesive).

Then it dawned on me: The milk dish must’ve slid into the box and the elder cat squeezed herself into the opening to go after it, then got stuck and couldn’t get out. I slightly pried one of the flaps up and sure enough, there she was. By now the younger cat had come over to see what was going on and was standing up on her hind legs with her paws on the edge of the box. The one inside the box then started sticking her paw out—“Help, help!” The younger one jumped back with a “Dafuq?” look on her face, then, naturally, the whole thing instantly turned into a game of kitty Whac-A-Mole. *facepalm*

Anyway, the older kitty was successfully rescued and the box dismantled. Cats. *smh*

That’s a lot of cocaine.

Via google translate:

Ephraim Antonio Campos Flores, foster son of Nicolas Maduro, Venezuelan President was arrested yesterday morning in Haiti with 800 kilos of cocaine in a coordinated operation by the Drug Enforcement Agency of the United States (DEA) and the Federal Attorney for the Southern District of New York, according to US government information obtained by veja.com.
Campos Flores is the nephew of first lady Cilia Flores and was raised by her and mature as a child. At the time of arrest, he was in the company of his cousin Francisco Freitas flowers. They were arrested in Port au Prince when landed with the drug that had been shipped from Venezuela and was bound for Mexico and the United States.

Venezuelans were extradited to the United States and are since yesterday in federal prison. They will be processed by international drug trafficking. The official announcement of the arrest of relatives of the first lady is scheduled for today (Wednesday).

Since 2012, Venezuela is in the United States authorities radar because of the involvement of military and Chavista leaders with drug trafficking. In 2012, the former judge Eladio Aponte Aponte revealed the existence of the Cartel of the Suns - name references the currencies that carry the generals in uniform. He said the drug trafficking in the country is coordinated by the military, especially the President of the National Assembly Diosdado Cabello.

Missouri Lawmaker Seeks To Block Students From Studying Restrictive Abortion Law
One student is doing research for her dissertation. A state senator says that’s illegal.

“…A state lawmaker wants to stop a graduate student at the University of Missouri from continuing research for her dissertation on the impact of a 72-hour waiting period on women considering abortions.

Missouri state Sen. Kurt Schaefer (R-Columbia) claimed in a letter to the university chancellor dated Oct. 30 that the university is breaking the law by allowing the student to carry out her research. The grad student is studying a recently imposed law requiring women in Missouri to wait 72 hours between the time they seek information about an abortion and the point at which they have the procedure.”

A year or so ago, as part of the discussion of whether un- and underemployment was cyclical or based on skill mismatch, someone talked to a bunch of business owners. The ones who claimed it was skill mismatch were basically claiming that because they couldn’t find skilled, experienced workers willing to work for what they wanted to pay them. They seem to think that society owes them enough trained people that they don’t have to spend any money training them, nor compete for the good ones.

Speaking of idiots:

Sarah Palin pushes her daughter’s conspiracy theory: Starbucks cups a leftist plot to make us look ridiculous

I already opined but does she really think companies think about how to make wingnut morons like her look ridiculous when they already do a fine job of that themselves? I mean FFS. Believe me, I’d love to have a job where I thought of things that tick off sensitive conservatives like Sarah but there’s not work in that field. and it would be far too easy.

Now obviously there are exceptions to this. For someone aspiring to be a police officer, I want to know for sure they can handle stressful situations but just because I may not fit to a perfect t what you’re looking for in your applicant doesn’t mean I shouldn’t get consideration. I’ll give an example. For a while here, I thought about getting into entry level travel agency work. Now I have an extensive knowledge of the world and experience traveling including having planned my own trip last summer which I have brought up in interviews. But I wasn’t considered due to a lack of sales experience.

They see it as ‘skills mismatch’ because they can’t pay shit wages for trained, experienced people, and they don’t want to train them because (they claim) the trained people will take jobs for more money elsewhere.

This used to be a pretty simple equation - if you pay good wages and provide good benefits and don’t treat your employees like shit, they’ll work hard and they’ll stay. If you pay shit wages, offer shitty benefits, and treat employees like shit, they’ll fuck off and/or find someplace else to work.

Many business owners seem to be forgetting that loyalty runs two ways.

It’s like my Conservative friend who said that an employer only owes his employees enough compensation to keep them from leaving. I said, “Sure! But then they only owe him enough work to keep from being fired.” He was appalled! Apparently no matter how poorly you’re paid or treated, you always owe your employer your best effort.

What is a business arrangement for the employer becomes a moral imperative for the employee.

re: #214 wrenchwench

So is the Marine, but that discussion (Hispanics can be of any race) will explode more heads.

Interestingly, according to this article from last year by Business Insider, white Americans are underrepresented WRT active duty personnel, but not when it comes to officers. The data is based on a 2012 DoD report on military demographics, however there’s a more recent report for 2014 here (PDF). As far as I can tell, the lopsidedness hasn’t changed much (though the percentage of white active duty members has decreased by just under 1%). I don’t see hispanic listed, so I’m gonna guess they’re counted as white? Ah, here we go (emphasis mine):

Race/Ethnicity. Less than one-third (31.2%) or 412,070 of Active Duty members identify themselves as a minority (i.e., Black or African American, Asian, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Multi-racial, or Other/Unknown). The percentage of Active Duty members who identify themselves as a minority is greater in 2014 than it was in 1995 (from 28.2% of enlisted members and 10.5% of officers in 1995, to 32.9% of enlisted members and 22.5% of officers in 2014). The overall ratio of minority enlisted personnel (359,056) to minority officers (53,014) is 6.8 minority enlisted personnel for every one minority officer. To conform to the latest Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directives, Hispanic is not considered a minority race designation and is analyzed separately as an ethnicity. Overall, 12.0 percent of the DoD Active Duty force is of Hispanic ethnicity. [pp. iii-iv of the 2014 report]

Also:

2.22 Number and Percentage of Active Duty Members by Ethnicity and Race

This table presents the number and percentage of Active Duty members by ethnicity and race. The Other/Unknown race category has the greatest percentage of members indicating Hispanic ethnicity (57.3%), while Asian members have the smallest percentage indicating Hispanic ethnicity (2.8%). Overall, 12.0 percent of Active Duty members are of Hispanic ethnicity. [p. 25 of the 2014 report]

re: #269 CuriousLurker

I’m not sure that’s surprising. Enlisted service members typically come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds - it’s one of those traditional “ways out.” Officers typically come from either the service academies or ROTC programs at other universities. The service academies are actually quite difficult to get into from an academic standpoint (in addition to all the other hoops you have to jump through - like getting a congressional recommendation).

I’m not surprised, I just found it interesting that the military is pretty much the same as the rest of society, i.e. white Americans tend to be either proportionally represented or over-represented WRT positions of authority (like in business, the federal government, etc.) I guess I thought the military might be more egalitarian.

They played a historic role in the integration of society, but apparently without any follow-through at the upper levels. Less willingness to share there, I guess.

Good question, I dunno. Here are the reports referenced in the AJ piece (all are PDFs):

American Indian and Alaska Native Veterans, September 2012

Minority Veterans report (2011)

Also this, sad that it’s necessary:

American Indian and Alaska Native Service Members, Veterans, their Families and Communities: A Multi-Agency Suicide Prevention Collaboration

There are lots of other reports at the VA’s National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics > Reports as well, but they’re not listed in chronological order and there doesn’t appear to be a way to sort, filter or search them. Annoying.
