Is This the Craziest Right Wing Tweet About the Paris Attacks?

Nevada GOP politician tweets insane gun-crazed image and links to John Birch Society
Wingnuts • Views: 60,006

Immediately following the horrific terror attacks in Paris, conservative media and blogs started pushing their usual line of horse puckey; the French had it coming because they have strict gun control laws. If they only had more guns, they could have stopped those terrorists in their tracks.

Of course, France’s gun control laws also prevent the kind of continual random gun massacres we see in the United States on an almost weekly basis, but never mind that — “MOAR GUNZ!” they cry!

Perhaps the most absurdly over the top expression of this right wing cult of gun-worship comes from Nevada Republican Assemblywoman Michelle Fiore, who tweeted this bizarre Photoshopped image yesterday accusing the French of being “defenseless.”

There are so many levels of craziness in this tweet it’s hard to enumerate them all, but for starters — that link she posted goes to the website of the racist, antisemitic, conspiracy-theory-promoting John Birch Society.

Answer; No. It’s still early. And I, for one, when holding a scoped assault weapon, always looks at the imaginary camera as my flashlight is on in daylight because I’m a hard on. And I photo shop my sorry ass onto a gray sky down cobblestone slate theme. But her nails look great. Jerkoff.

My tweet last evening was in response to a statement made during the candidate debates, not in response to the activities in Paris. It was poorly worded and did not convey my intent.

I do think the attacks in Paris yesterday, along with other ISIS terrorist actions, are cowardly and despicable. My heart breaks for the people of France, of Paris, the families of those wounded or killed and the casualties themselves. My thoughts are with them. I condemn the attacks, as I condemn all violence.

I am folding up my campaign tent. The campaign website and Facebook page will be down by this afternoon.

I apologize to the volunteers and contributors who have put so much time, effort and money into my campaign.

I am very sorry for “spreading ick” on other candidates and the DFL party. I will do everything I can to help resolve the issue: most likely the best thing for me to do is shut up. The tweet was stupid. I’m sorry.

OK this crap about all the “gaffes” made by Hillary during the debate is getting ridiculous.

It was not a tricky question, but Hillary Rodham Clinton found a way to make it so. Toward the end of the latest Democratic presidential debate over the weekend, she was asked about the rash of campus protests and whether she would encourage more of them. Clinton, who had plenty of stories of her work with activists, decided to go with biography.

“I come from the ’60s, a long time ago,” she told moderator John Dickerson. “There was a lot of activism on campus.”

Republicans spotted an opportunity. A spokesman for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) demonstrated just how easily a 44-year-old Cuban American could outflank a 68-year-old baby boomer.

Seriously? Like every person in America doesn’t already know how old she is?
The Republicans think going after her on age is wise? OK then.

Clinton had delivered an otherwise strong debate performance, navigating a first hour almost entirely dedicated to foreign policy. But at key moments, she appeared to step on her own momentum.

First, she and other Democrats on the stage refused to say the words “radical Islam,” another moment immediately seized upon by Republicans. Then she invoked the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to defend herself against a critique of her cozy relationship with Wall Street from Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) — and was roundly criticized on Twitter.

Refusing to say Radical Islam is not a gaffe, it is a reasoned position.
And Republicans are going to go all negative ad on her for invoking 9/11? Give me a break.
At least she did have a connection at the time.

I’ve been listening to a Roman History podcast lately on my commute and I couldn’t help noticing the Nothing-Ever-Changes-Dude moral in the story of Marcus Licinius Crassus, by some estimates the richest man to have ever lived, who was so desperate to add military glory to his name that, at age 60, he raised his own army and marched into what is now Syria…

…and was promptly manipulated, deceived, misled, surrounded, out-gunned, and massacred in short order. (See: Battle of Carrhae, which took place about 30 miles downstream of what is now Ar Raqqah).

Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

Between the billowing backdrop graphic (what the hell was that) and the twitter barrage onscreen, the debate gave me a headache. I thought they were all intelligent. Each had highs and lows. Bernie was a bit shoutie. Martin tripped over his words a bit and seemed less genuine than he did at the forum last week. And I thought Hillary, who had the most arrows pointed at her, both from the moderators and her opponents held up well. YMMV.

I think that is the point. There was really not much for the media to crow about; the debate was fairly civil and substantive. I mean, where is the fun in that!!?

It’s not just that the deniers hate anyone actually discussing impacts of climate change.

It’s the regions of the world that they don’t care about.

Whether it’s the Sahel or South Asia, these are people which just aren’t on the minds of the hate-right, or if the hate-right does acknowledge the people in this area it is usually to demean them for one thing or another.

That a billion or two billion people live quite marginally and that even small changes can cause dramatic societal problems for them is just not something that the American hate right wants to spend any effort on understanding or accepting.

I agree—nothing like intelligent conversation to shut down the howler monkeys. The mods tried to get things going with some of the questions (Martin, aren’t you totally unqualified to be president? He was a mayor and a governor—let’s look at his credentials next to Trump, Fiorina, Carson—hell, throw in Christie, Walker, and Jindal—they’ve only been governors) but the grownups weren’t biting.

Edited to add Huckabee—not only just a governor, but a total creep as well.

Watched this debate with an old high school friend of mine who is one of the top neurologist in the US and one of the world’s experts on senile dementia. He pointed out several times during the debate that Hillary either verbally or non verbally gave signs that she is suffering from the early stages of senile dementia. He said she would be lucky to last her first term before she had to resign because she was able to do the job. He is a life long democrat and big time donor and stated he has not donated to her campaign and will not vote for her for that reason. She will be 69yo on election day. He also said Bernie Sanders is in great shape.

This makes perfect sense when you think about it:

Syrian passports found at Paris attacks scene were fakes made in Turkey

Syrian passports found near the bodies of two of the suspected Paris attackers were fakes that were likely made in Turkey, police sources in France told Channel 4 News on Sunday.

Fake Syrian passports have become a valuable commodity in recent months and are freely traded on the black market, as they can help ease the path for non-Syrians to get protection as refugees in Europe.

Simon Kuper, a columnist with the Financial Times and Paris resident, said the move could be part of a strategy by IS to “discredit” refugees and force Europe to close its borders.

An undated video released by IS on Saturday, featuring fighters appearing to burn French passports and pledge allegiance to the group’s leader, urged French Muslims to “emigrate” to areas controlled by IS before Europe’s borders are closed.

91
Shiplord Kirel  Nov 15, 2015 • 4:12:20pm

French gun laws are actually pretty lax compared to most European countries, and especially so compared to the UK. Owners must have either a hunting or a shooting sports license and there are limits on how many guns and how much ammunition an individual may have at home. The limits are quite generous though, up to 12 guns and 1000 rounds of ammunition. Semi-auto weapons are legal, including military style ones, but they must be individually registered. Guns in military calibers must also be registered regardless of action type, but there is no registration requirement for most other guns.

It is noteworthy that these laws focus more on “who” rather than “what,” vetting gun owners but not severely restricting the guns themselves.

re: #87 Timothy Watson

And the “liberal media” keeps refusing to point out that the GOP’s poll leader, the Trumpster, is older than Hillary.

Also, Trump is a narcissist so malignant and scary that psychologists are eschewing normal professional ethical guidelines to comment on the glaring nature of his personality disorder and how it makes him unfit to be President.

For mental-health professionals, Donald Trump is at once easily diagnosed but slightly confounding. “Remarkably narcissistic,” said developmental psychologist Howard Gardner, a professor at Harvard Graduate School of Education. “Textbook narcissistic personality disorder,” echoed clinical psychologist Ben Michaelis. “He’s so classic that I’m archiving video clips of him to use in workshops because there’s no better example of his characteristics,” said clinical psychologist George Simon, who conducts lectures and seminars on manipulative behavior. “Otherwise, I would have had to hire actors and write vignettes. He’s like a dream come true.”

That mental-health professionals are even willing to talk about Trump in the first place may attest to their deep concern about a Trump presidency. As Dr. Robert Klitzman, a professor of psychiatry and the director of the master’s of bioethics program at Columbia University, pointed out, the American Psychiatric Association declares it unethical for psychiatrists to comment on an individual’s mental state without examining him personally and having the patient’s consent to make such comments. This so-called Goldwater rule arose after the publication of a 1964 Fact magazine article in which psychiatrists were polled about Senator Barry Goldwater’s fitness to be president. Senator Goldwater brought a $2 million suit against the magazine and its publisher; the Supreme Court awarded him $1 in compensatory damages and $75,000 in punitive damages.

But you don’t need to have met Donald Trump to feel like you know him; even the smallest exposure can make you feel like you’ve just crossed a large body of water in a small boat with him. Indeed, though narcissistic personality disorder was removed from the most recent issue of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, for somewhat arcane reasons, the traits that have defined the disorder in the past—grandiosity; an expectation that others will recognize one’s superiority; a lack of empathy—are writ large in Mr. Trump’s behavior.

But for at least one mental-health professional, the Trump enigma, or should we say non-enigma, is larger than the bluster of the man whose own Web site calls him “the very definition of the American success story, continually setting the standards of excellence”—to this mind-set, Trump may be a kind of bellwether. Mr. Gardner said, “For me, the compelling question is the psychological state of his supporters. They are unable or unwilling to make a connection between the challenges faced by any president and the knowledge and behavior of Donald Trump. In a democracy, that is disastrous.”

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.

That’s the point that I’ve been trying to make with some Trumpets that I know. That politics is the art of compromise, that Trump isn’t used to having people around him telling him NO, and not all problems and objections can be steamrollered over.

Charles Johnson,

The American rightwing is truly out of its mind. Off course these people ignore the much lower overall murder rate of countries like France. Than again, maybe its not that shocking. American gun nuts live in a fantasy world where not only more guns equals less crime, but if the victims of the holocaust only had guns, the Nazis wouldn’t have been able to murder them.

Yesterday I said we’d have to have an attack like the one in Paris every day to equal (proportionally) the number of people killed by goobers with guns here, but I was wrong. I guess trying not to go off on these morons isn’t gonna work.

Take it from a relatively new parent: Sometimes, you just have to ignore the little shits. My four-year-old son is now at the stage where he is deliberately trying to provoke our attention - good or bad - when he’s throwing a fit. So I’ve learned to focus myself on something else, be it the TV, my computer, or a book, until he calms down and does whatever it is he was fighting not to do.

….
This sudden shortfall has led to a careful rethinking by ISIS high command of how inhabitants outside of Syria and Iraq can best serve the cause. “The most important thing,” Abu Khaled said, “is that they are trying to make sleeper cells all over the world.” The ISIS leadership has “asked people to stay in their countries and fight there, kill citizens, blow up buildings, whatever they can do. Some people are so literal. Holy crap. I don’t even OWN a blowtorch, nor do I know how to use one. I have used this expression for YEARS and it just means to question someone very closely. You need to get a grip on your literal reading of what is obviously a figure of speech. Seriously.

Nope. What you wrote could be used against us and our allies. Ted Cruz himself can look at that and say to his followers “See? Our detractors want to torture us.”

This is the internet. There’s pretty much no line between literal and figurative.

Last year the cats taught us that a) some trees apparently look a lot like cat grass and are to be gnawed upon and b) some types of pine trees are poisonous to cats.

THANKFULLY ours was not one of them but let’s just say that it was not the most relaxing Christmas experience ever, and the cats didn’t seem to mind the bitter-yuck stuff we put on the tree to try to stop them from eating it but I ended up with an allergic reaction to it.

Demoman in TF2 and I wreck the place when I’m online. I’m frequently at the top of the board but only play for fun. I don’t really care if our team wins or loses, I just go out there and wreck stuff. If someone is in sight and range of my GL I nail them dead on with the pipes. If they’re around a corner I have no problem figuring an angle to bounce some rollers their way, frequently blowing them into the line of fire. I prefer the Scottish Resistance for stickies because I know how and where to lay effective traps and selective detonation works best for that play style. I hate snipers and if I run into a good one I go spy for a bit and make his life miserable. Sometimes soldier with the Direct Hit if I really want to get it over with quick.

That or if I am on with our daughter, she takes them out. She’s deadly as spy, I’m just good since my preference is blowing stuff up. :)

If I really have concerns about something, I’ll try to point it out in a non-confrontational manner, if necessary downding, and at the worst report the comment to Charles. I’ve done it before (I think several people can attest to that) and, in general, the Lizards are a crew that responds well to a reasoned argument.

So I’ve been rewatching the Star Wars series. Watching TPM, I can totally see the Jar Jar was ultimate bad guy thing now. And Dooku does seem incredibly flat, even by Lucas standards. But anyway, a question for the more hardcore fans… When it comes to the Clone Wars cartoons, which are better the 2003 series or the 2008 series? And are both considered canon?

2008. I know that’s also canon, don’t know about the other, don’t really care because they were wretched.

I’ve been actually really really enjoying the Rebel series as well.

I used to hear them running around on the drop ceiling tiles over my head in my old factory. And every once in a while there would be heavier footsteps, maybe a rat.

You were the one who chided *everyone* for profanity!

This isn’t about profanity per se, it’s about violent rhetoric being bandied about and folks not giving a shit. I give a shit.

As should we all.

Everyone take a breath, move upstairs, and enjoy the fresh start that comes with a new thread.

It’s really about people too out of control to express themselves. Whether it’s profanity or violent images, rational discourse goes out the window.

It isn’t us who have to “lighten up”, especially when it comes to tolerating off-hand mentions of wishing violence on others; the RWNJs look for anything to discredit any dissenters, plus shit like that doesn’t help Charles either.

We’re all better than that, aren’t we?

Is “long walk off a short pier” still acceptable? Sorry, I just had to ask! ;)

I liked the old drunk on The John Larroquette Show, who told him: “I wish you’d take your Twelve Steps on an eleven-step pier!”

I guess this Fiore person thinks it’s reasonable that concert promoters will allow hundreds of people to go trooping into a death metal concert with automatic rifles slung across their backs.

It should’ve been prevented to begin with…
