Did the Bible Tell Ben Carson New England Looks Like This?

Just some more inadvertent comedy from the Carson campaign
Politics • Views: 53,035

In your right wing inadvertent comedy moment of the day, “pious Christian” Ben Carson is joining the rest of the Republican Party in turning his back on desperate people fleeing war and terrorism. But in doing so, his campaign created a US map that apparently comes from an alternate universe, perhaps the same 6,000-year old universe in which the pyramids were built to store grain. Notice the upper right.

What a proud moment this must be for RWNJ. Their party is loudly and almost unanimously announcing its opposition to taking in refugees fleeing a civil war.

How fondly I remember the grand ole days of how American troops were invading Iraq to liberate the Iraqi people. /

You’d think that they could have at least had a blank outline of the US that they could have color coded. This is pretty sad even for Camp Carson.

This isn’t what bothers me. What bothers me is that anyone can still support the guy after the revelations by staff insiders over the past 24 hours that the guy is completely ignorant and incapable of learning anything relating to foreign policy.

That might fly if you’re having a political debate with your crazy uncle on Thanksgiving, but it has absolutely no place for a candidate who fancies himself a presidential candidate.

And even there, the problem speaks more to the ignorance and ahistorical worldviews of the GOP who seem to flirt with every candidate who utters a statement more ignorant than the last.

Kiss the finest part of my ass, Ben. No one’s saying either of those things on the left. No one is. No one’s saying 300 million guns should be confiscated after a shooting although we are saying if you actually listened to us instead of the voices in your head that we want sensible laws about guns and we don’t think Paris is no big deal and that people shouldn’t overreact but we have a problem with blaming refugees for the murders when gasp no refugees were involved. So again kiss my ass and find a real job rather than being a right wing propagandist pathetic asshole.

The only way to make sense of Carson’s candidacy at this point is that he’s the “anti-Obama” in their eyes, that they can gloss over all the deficiencies in his candidacy by going “Oh yeah, well so was/is Obama!” and thinking that works outside of their echo chambers. Criticize him? “You’re a racist!” Call his intelligence into question? “Racist!” Suggest he couldn’t lead a horse to water? “RACIST!!!”

I always hated the French are cowards jokes, I really have. We never have anything close to a Verdun or Somme or war like what WWI was for the French people. They got invaded in WWII not to cowardice but to poor strategy. Well that’s honestly why we’ve lost some battles too but fortunately for us but unfortunately for the French, we’re far removed geographically from most of our wars.

These guys really are just Grade A cowards

A top Tennessee Republican lawmaker believes the time has come for the National Guard to round up any Syrian refugees who have recently settled in the state and to stop any additional Syrian refugees from entering Tennessee.

“We need to activate the Tennessee National Guard and stop them from coming in to the state by whatever means we can,” said House GOP Caucus Chairman Glen Casada, R-Franklin, referencing refugees.

“I’m not worried about what a bureaucrat in D.C. or an unelected judge thinks. … We need to gather (Syrian refugees) up and politely take them back to the ICE center and say, ‘They’re not coming to Tennessee, they’re yours.’ “

Trump wants a “deportation force” to round up the browns and now this “small government” A-hole wants the freaking military to start rounding people up

But Obamacare’s the real tyranny we need to be worried about

It’s laughable, considering how often Republicans have not only insulted and denigrated Obama and democrats overseas, but actually actively tried to undermine policy and usurp the President’s authority.

Especially this guy whose entire career he owes to insulting Obama. Ted would be just another angry wingnut asshole in Twitter without the cult of Obama hatred to run on.

“What would have happened if your father, who was trying to get from Cuba to the United States, and the political leaders said, ‘Nope, we don’t think so, because who knows? Maybe you could be somebody who could, you know, commit crimes against Americans,’” said CNN’s Dana Bash.

Cruz said the situations weren’t at all comparable.

“See, that’s why it’s important to define what it is we’re fighting,” Cruz said. “If my father were part of a theocratic and political movement like radical Islamism that promotes murdering anyone who doesn’t share your extreme faith or forcibly converting them, then it would have made perfect sense,” Cruz said.

Rafael Cruz, who came to the U.S. from Cuba more than 55 years ago, is a religious extremist who believes that his son is among Christian kings “anointed” by God to help usher in the Second Coming of Christ — and with that, the apocalypse.

re: #80 The Vicious Babushka

Turkey has taken in more than 2 million. Lebanon has taken in over a million as has Jordan. The Saudis have taken in anywhere from 100,000 on up to 400,000 depending on the source (I’m inclined to believe the lower amount due to the overall population of Syria and relative size of the refugee population.

The US? 1,800. And of those, most are women or children, not men who might be of age to carry out a terror attack (18-65).

But in assisting countries like Turkey and Jordan and Lebanon deal with the influx of refugees, the US has put nearly 2.8 billion pounds (not dollars - since the source is Daily Mail) to that purpose; the EU, nearly 4 billion pounds.

This really does remind me of the post 9/11 atmosphere all over again.

I mean have we thought about the message this is sending to the refugees?

“We hate you.
We don’t want you.
To us, you are all terrorists.
Go away.”

Talk about perfect ingredients for creating future radicals. Christ, we’re doing ourselves in here…

I wonder if anybody is going to point out the high crime rates amongst the Marielitos that came to America from Cuba. We all kinda remember “Scarface,” right?

I mean, that’s the level of discourse you have to have with these dingbats.

And yes. Scarface did NOT mean that all Cuban refugees were murderous drug kingpins. Or that we should shut down the borders and ship people back to Castro’s jails. We’ve dealt with this before. It’s not going to mean ISIS tanks rolling through the streets of St. Paul. But you can’t tell that to the perpetually terrified, faux-tough-guy fraidycats who get all their information from Fox Noise.

No kidding. I didn’t walk around my hooch in Vietnam with my sidearm on (though it was very close by). I have to admit that like many gun-humpers I did keep a rifle beside the bed, er, cot. I would submit, though, that the situation was somewhat different.

Do they keep their guns on them in the shower? Maybe some gun-humper pub can do an evaluation on the most shower-safe guns and holsters.

Damn…

Later, I learned that the Santa Monica Police Department had dispatched 19 officers after one of my neighbors reported a burglary at my apartment. It didn’t matter that I told the cops I’d lived there for seven months, told them about the locksmith, offered to show a receipt for his services and my ID. It didn’t matter that I went to Duke, that I have an MBA from Dartmouth, that I’m a vice president of strategy at a multinational corporation. It didn’t matter that I’ve never had so much as a speeding ticket. It didn’t matter that I calmly, continually asked them what was happening. It also didn’t matter that I didn’t match the description of the person they were looking for — my neighbor described me as Hispanic when he called 911. What mattered was that I was a woman of color trying to get into her apartment — in an almost entirely white apartment complex in a mostly white city — and a white man who lived in another building called the cops because he’d never seen me before.

Just…holy fuck.

The police are out of control in this country and we can’t do anything about it.

Muslim congregations in this country are in a quandary. They are obviously in danger from crazies who take the RWNJ rhetoric at face value but local bigots would see even the most elementary kind of security precaution as evidence of a pending ISIS assault.

At the same time, fundy gun-churches could post 50 camo-clad volunteers in their parking lots with AR-15s and nobody would say a word.

re: #164 The Vicious Babushka

Of course, the nitwit gets the whole law wrong and why there’s even a mention of religion.

(a) Authority to apply for asylum
(1) In general
Any alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters), irrespective of such alien’s status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this section or, where applicable, section 1225(b) of this title.

(2) Exceptions
(A) Safe third country
Paragraph (1) shall not apply to an alien if the Attorney General determines that the alien may be removed, pursuant to a bilateral or multilateral agreement, to a country (other than the country of the alien’s nationality or, in the case of an alien having no nationality, the country of the alien’s last habitual residence) in which the alien’s life or freedom would not be threatened on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion, and where the alien would have access to a full and fair procedure for determining a claim to asylum or equivalent temporary protection, unless the Attorney General finds that it is in the public interest for the alien to receive asylum in the United States.

So, anyone can apply for asylum. An application can be denied if a person can be removed to a 3d country if the person wont be threatened on account of … religion.. unless the AG determines it is in public interest for the asylum seeker to receive asylum in the US.

Other mentions of religion in 1158?

That religion is one of the classifications of being in the group being persecuted - as in say Jews being persecuted before WWII because they were Jewish. It’s on the asylum seeker to show that they are part of the class of people being persecuted.

If the person is shown by the AG to be part of the persecution of others based on race, religion, etc….

The AG may also terminate asylum if the AG finds that the person can be sent to a 3d country safely.

She’s lying, of course, but I’m sure none of her followers will actually read the section she’s talking about. Persecution based on one’s religion is one of the things that can qualify one for asylum (which is different from being a refugee), in which case the person would need to be able to prove their religion. That doesn’t mean that the government is required to take it into consideration. Gawd these people are disingenuous. And stupid.

re: #203 SteveMcGaziBolaGate RN

Didn’t we admit we were wrong and pay reparations?

President Gerald Ford proclaimed that the internment was “wrong,” and a “national mistake” which “shall never again be repeated”

In 1988, U.S. President Ronald Reagan signed the Civil Liberties Act of 1988. It provided financial redress of $20,000 for each surviving detainee, totaling $1.2 billion.

President George H. W. Bush issued another formal apology from the U.S. government on December 7, 1991, on the 50th-Anniversary of the Pearl Harbor Attack, saying:

“In remembering, it is important to come to grips with the past. No nation can fully understand itself or find its place in the world if it does not look with clear eyes at all the glories and disgraces of its past. We in the United States acknowledge such an injustice in our history. The internment of Americans of Japanese ancestry was a great injustice, and it will never be repeated.”

President George H. W. Bush would later sign the Civil Liberties Act Amendments of 1992, on September 27, 1992, appropriating an additional $400 million to ensure all remaining internees received their $20,000 redress payments,

I would add that there’s still a possibility of it happening again, legally speaking:

The rulings of the US Supreme Court in the Korematsu and Hirabayashi cases, specifically in its expansive interpretation of government powers in wartime, have yet to be overturned. They are still the law of the land because a lower court cannot overturn a ruling by the US Supreme Court. The coram nobis cases totally undermined the factual underpinnings of the 1944 cases, leaving the original decisions without much logical basis. As these 1944 decisions prevail, a number of legal scholars have expressed the opinion that the original Korematsu and Hirabayashi decisions have taken on renewed relevance in the context of the War on Terror.

re: #59 Targetpractice

I’d say I’m surprised, but this is Chuck Schumer, a guy who hasn’t met a major Democratic initiative that he couldn’t get on the conservative side of, if only to save his own political hide.

thinkprogress.org

SCHUMER: The Palestinian people still don’t believe in the Jewish state, in a two-state solution. More do than before, but a majority still do not. Their fundamental view is, the Europeans treated the Jews badly and gave them our land — this is Palestinian thinking […] They don’t believe in the Torah, in David […] You have to force them to say Israel is here to stay. The boycott of Gaza to me has another purpose — obviously the first purpose is to prevent Hamas from getting weapons by which they will use to hurt Israel — but the second is actually to show the Palestinians that when there’s some moderation and cooperation, they can have an economic advancement. When there’s total war against Israel, which Hamas wages, they’re going to get nowhere. And to me, since the Palestinians in Gaza elected Hamas, while certainly there should be humanitarian aid and people not starving to death, to strangle them economically until they see that’s not the way to go, makes sense.

Anyone surprised about Schumer?

So I dropped this on FB just now:

We took in German and Austrian refugees before we got involved in WWII. We took in Vietnamese refugees during and after the Vietnam war. We took in Korean refugees during the Korean War. We took in Balkan refugees during the war in Kosovo. We took in Iraqi refugees during the first and second wars in Iraq. We took in Afghani refugees during that war too.

Fuck all of you who call yourselves Americans, yet in the same breath want to deny refugees from a war-ravaged nation any safety and security because French and Belgian citizens attacked Paris.

Considering that we’ve already got a coalition fighting against Daesh/IS/AQ throughout the ME, what else does Jeb want here? We’ve already got Russia, France and a bunch of other countries fighting Daesh and AQ.

You mean go to the UN? I somehow doubt he wants that route, especially given how the GOP loathes the UN.

And right now, the US has a bigger coalition of countries looking to get a piece of Daesh/IS/AQ than Jeb’s brother managed to put and hold together.

My point is exactly that defining religious heresy objectively in a secular way is destined to fail.

Heresy is in the eye of the beholder. If you don’t accept a specific religious system of coordinates in the first place, how are you going to decide what is heresy and what is not? Was Luther a heretic? Is the Russian Patriarch a heretic? Is Obama a heretic?

I absolutely agree, and I agree with funky. There is absolutely no point in defining religious heresy in a secular way, because that doesn’t make sense. As far as the Christian doctrine goes, all of Protestantism is heretical to Catholicism, which is heretical to Judaism. So the answer to your last three questions are: yes, yes, and no (Obama is the Antichrist, which somehow transcends all religions).
