Yes, Donald Trump Absolutely Did Say He’d Implement a Muslim Database. Stop Lying, Right Wingers.
On Thursday, Donald Trump called for a national database of Muslims, perhaps the most outright fascist statement he’s made yet.
But today a weird twist has emerged, as right wing media are actually trying to deny Trump ever said this. For example, at the propaganda site known as “Breitbart News,” right wing hack John Nolte screams: Cancel the Debate! CNN Caught Selectively-Editing Trump’s ‘Muslim’ Comments. (Nolte’s source for this BREAKING story: the Stupidest Man on the Internet, Jim Hoft. It’s the Cycle of Idiocy.)
CNN did edit their videoclip; there’s a very obvious cut in it. But just as obviously, this edit was made for conciseness, not to mislead anyone. And you can see this for yourself by watching the full unedited version I posted above, in which it’s appallingly clear that Donald Trump absolutely did express support for registering US Muslims in a database.
I mean, come on, right wingers. He said it. Why are you trying to deny this, after all the insane stuff he’s said that didn’t even make you blink?
Is it because this is such an obviously fascist Nazi-like idea that even right wing hacks like John Nolte realize how damaging it could be, and they have to try to throw out a bunch of BS to confuse the issue?
Even Trump himself is now trying to back away from this insanely offensive idea, saying he only meant to support a database of Syrian refugees. (Which is obviously untrue.)
But he accompanied this lame, dishonest walk-back attempt with another bigoted false meme dredged from the depths of the right wing fever swamp: Donald Trump Calls for Surveillance of ‘Certain Mosques’ and a Syrian Refugee Database.
Perhaps the most striking comment of the day was his recounting of the Sept. 11 attacks as he talked about the security landscape since the Paris massacre:
“Hey, I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down. And I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down. Thousands of people were cheering. So something’s going on. We’ve got to find out what it is.”
WTF!
Yes, there were celebrations in some parts of the Middle East after the 9/11 attacks. But “thousands and thousands” of Muslims celebrating in Jersey City? This simply never happened.
I’m watching this GOP presidential race wondering how psychotic it’s going to get, because we still have a year to go and it’s already completely off the scale.
