Trump Defends Tweeting Fake “Black Crime” Statistics: “It Came From a Very Credible Source”

Neo-Nazis are “very credible sources” to Donald Trump
Politics • Views: 84,732

This is how Donald Trump is defending his re-tweet of a racist graphic that came straight from the neo-Nazi fever swamp.

In an interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, Donald Trump defended tweeting a series of fabricated murder statistics designed to perpetuate racist stereotypes.

“I retweeted somebody that was supposedly an expert and it was also a radio show,” Trump said.

This is your Republican presidential front runner.

O’Reilly protested and said that, as a presidential candidates, he had an obligation to check his facts. “Don’t do this. Don’t put your name on stuff like this. Because it makes the other side — it gives them stuff to tell the ill-informed voter that you’re a racist. You’re just handing them a platter,” O’Reilly said.

Note that O’Reilly’s chief objection is not that it’s forwarding a racist lie, but that it’s bad tactics for a Republican candidate to open himself to attacks by the “other side.”

At the rate Trump is going, by the time we get his speech at the Republican convention (barring that he doesn’t jump ship before then and run as independent), he’s going to be parroting Stormfront “white genocide” talking points. Honestly, he’s going to make Pat Buchanan’s 1992 speech seem moderate in comparison.

The last time I listened to Rush Limbaugh, he was ranting about Mizzou and the hoax poop swastika and how the black student protesters were just agitators, probably violent, and the PC culture is just out of control goddamnit!

That was a couple of weeks ago. Now Rush seems to be all in for a nationalist movement in the United States.

Yes and no. They seem to have the ability to slip little things into the animation awfully close to airtime. Last night’s episode showed a Broadway scene that included a marquee for “LAFAYETTE: The Musical” with the Eiffel Tower/peace sign logo that was only created a couple of weeks ago.

The most consequential election I can think of is the election of 1860. I don’t see 2016 being even on the same paradigm as 1860.

The Rude Pundit has the right idea (and some wonderfully colorful descriptions of Trump as well):

The Rude Pundit was on the verge of writing an angry wee blog post about dwarf-handed pigfucker Donald Trump and his lies (motherfucker did say he would start a registry of Muslims), lying (cockknob’s racist tweet of racist stats put forth by racists, like him), bullshit (dick-weasel didn’t see “thousands and thousands” of people cheering in Jersey City as the Twin Towers fell because there weren’t thousands and thousands of Arabs or Muslims or whatever in Jersey City in 2001), outrage (jizz-gobbler said he thought a black protester beaten at his rally should have been roughed up), and outrageousness (bitchface put out a video of Hillary Clinton laughing while the Benghazi compound burns)…

Goddamnit, we don’t have to respond every time Donald Trump, a syphilitic screamer who is half carnival barker, half cut-rate Mussolini, spews out something, either in one of his loudmouthed phone interviews or on his Twitter account, where he or his minions articulate his brand of brainwashing the useless mouth-breathing ass-pickers who are his voters clamor for…

What if we just decided that looking at him, listening to him, giving him airtime every single speech or tweet or fucked-up expression of ego that he’s pretending is policy is driving us insane? What if we decide to wear blindfolds and allow him to rant and rage, but let him do it in a fucking vacuum, with no coverage? Go all in: kick him out of the GOP debates because he’s a blithering hatemonger, a wealthy dilettante playing games with the minds of the idiotic.

Oh, sure, he’ll go nutzoid, say it’s because we’re all frightened of him and his silent majority (who, fuck you, are heard more than any liberal movement anywhere in the U.S.). Ignore that, too…

The closest thing they have to a sane candidate by this point is Rubio, and that’s only because he’s a meat puppet. He is exactly the guy that the GOP tried to characterize the President as back in ‘08: A snot-nosed punk with little experience and no real desire to actually do his job.

And “moderate” Republicans are around, you usually find them out there trying in vain to argue that the “fringe” doesn’t represent the party, when they’re not left simply arguing that they don’t care how crazy the GOP gets, they’re still better than a Democrat in office.

Logic fail.

Some Muslims celebrated the fall of the WTC.
There are Muslims in Jersey City.
Therefore, Jersey City Muslims celebrated the fall of the WTC.

91
wheat-dogghazi-mailgate  Nov 23, 2015 • 9:15:40pm

Based on Wikipedia’s census figures for Jersey City, there are about 11,000 Muslims living there. So, for Trump to be correct, a large fraction of the population — men, women, children — would have had to have been gathered in one place as the towers were hit. Just from a logistics standpoint, that makes no damn sense.

Plus, kids would be in school, parents would be at work, so only the retired and unemployed Muslims would have done the so-called celebrating.

The New York Daily News has succeeded in sinking lower than the New York Post. Calling President Obama ‘Bam’ on the cover is a new low for an English-language newspaper. Even right-of-center papers like the Washington Times will at least call the president buy his full surname in their headlines. I can’t imagine why the Daily News is being so blatantly disrespectful.

Actually, that “disrespectful” headline is not even the worst the Daily News has, or even might run. There aren’t too many newspapers that keep up the sleazy traditions of good old-fashioned cheap yellow journalism in this country - but the New York Daily News is definitely one of them…

Dark cloud, silver lining:

‘Very kind!’ Sarah Palin sends Adele effusive thank you note after the superstar singer credits her with U.S. success

I can see how being on the 2008 episode of SNL that Sarah Palin guested on helped her launch her career (it was very highly rated, after all) but mentioning it is like saying “Beetlejuice” three times. In some ways its worse because Sarah Palin is more troublesome than Michael Keaton character.

re: #103 Dark_Falcon

Of course, the Palins can’t just have Sarah say something nice and that’s it. Instead her daughter Bristol had to go along with her ghostwriter and throw some serious nastiness at Kerry Washington and Shonda Rimes:

Bristol Palin is expressing her outrage over Scandal’s most recent episode which showed a major character having an abortion while also addressing the defunding of Planned Parenthood by promoting a scathing attack on the show penned by one of her favorite authors - her ghostwriter.

Bristol has posted multiple times on Twitter and Facebook an opinion piece by Nancy French that calls both the decision by Scandal to make the episode and the praise the show has now received from Hollywood stars ‘sickening.’

French also writes in her piece, which she posted on Patheos; ‘Shonda Rhimes and the cast of Scandal have made one thing crystal clear - they stand with Planned Parenthood instead of the millions of babies they’ve murdered.’

Most of what the article quotes is from Ms. French as Bristol’s commentary is Authentic Palin Gibberish.

No. You do not NEED to write 11,000 words.

You are writing a NOVEL. You WANT to tell a story. That may need, from where you are right now, 20 words or it may need 20,000 words. Write the story. The word count is as irrelevant as the body count was in the nightly news about the Vietnam War.

I know that I’m only a bad poet but I know what I want to read. Tell the story. The rest will happen as a result.

It takes about a month to settle out. Are you on it permanently or is it a swing shift? If the former, you can adjust and it’s a good gig. I like my permanent, 40 hours a week, 11 to 7 shift. But if it were a swing shift? Nope. I’d have quit a very long time ago as that is torture to the body and the brain - and made worse by us doing it to ourselves.

Well, yes and no. I know the story, and I’m pretty sure it will take at least 11,000 words to resolve it.

But I am a master of completely arbitrary goals, and completing NaNoWriMo is one. And that is defined as 50,000 words in the month of November, which means that by 11:59pm on Nov. 30, I need to have written 50,000 words in order to complete it.

Story probably won’t actually be done then, but that’s okay, I will finish it too.

Stupid? Probably. But I finished a Ph.D. for what was likely equally stupid reasons. I’m really not good at quitting.

(The actual goal is to keep people from second-guessing themselves everywhere and just put words on the page, because editing is something that you can do on a second pass. It does help with that. And also discipline.)

It’s a rather screwed up situation at the moment. Between the shortage in staff and the holidays, the FNG (i.e. me) is catching the shifts that nobody else wants to work. That’s the hilarious bit, I don’t really mind working graveyard here because it’s generally quiet and hassle free. It’s the wonky schedule I have this week, between working on fewer days that I was and switching between my usual swing shifts and the two graveyards. Ah well, could be worse, at least I have a job this holiday season so I can afford to buy gifts for my family.

One of the pilots have been captured by Turkmen forces in the region, and the search for the second pilot continues, CNNTürk reported citing local sources.

GotNwes has been off doing its day job, so this report has been delayed.

FACT CHECK: Actually, Muslims did celebrate 9/11, just not in NJ, so Trump is right — kinda

Ben Carson and Donald Trump are under fire for claiming they saw scary Muslims celebrating in Jersey City as the planes hit the World Trade Center on 9/11/01.

Carson has since recanted, but Trump, who is not The One (Ted Cruz) but close enough, stands by his statements.

Now we will prove how Trump is in fact correct, as long as we ignore the whole Jersey City part of his statements. And the thousands on Muslims in one place part, too.

First of all, let’s look at Jersey City, which is right across the river from Lower Manhattan. There are about 11,000 Muslims in Jersey City, and the attacks on 9/11 were planned right there by some of those Muslims. Did any of them celebrate?

The Washington Post fact checker said it never happened, but Trump replied thusly, “I want an apology! Many people have tweeted that I am right!” He links to a Washington Post story about law enforcement raids and arrests in Jersey City.

In Jersey City, within hours of two jetliners’ plowing into the World Trade Center, law enforcement authorities detained and questioned a number of people who were allegedly seen celebrating the attacks and holding tailgate-style parties on rooftops while they watched the devastation on the other side of the river.

You see? “A number of people.” That means thousands. On rooftops. Having tailgate parties.

I think by this point the judge has pretty well covered all the bases and given Burns enough rope to hang himself with. The kindest thing he could probably do is drop kick this case to a California court, where they could kill it under the state’s anti-SLAPP laws and allow Gawker to drop the entirety of its legal defense bills on Chucky’s head. According to the Turks, they shot it down after it ignored 10 warnings that it was violating Turkish airspace over a period of 5 minutes. They first said it was a Russian plane, but now they’ve changed to say it was of “unknown nationality.”

What will it take for the GOP to clamp down on hate-mongers within them? Another election loss? A Breivik-style massacre/terrorist attack by a self-described Republican Crusader?

The right wing base will not clamp down the hate. They will double down and vote ever more extreme candidates into office at the local level. We have a countrywide civil war going on right now between about 50-60% of the white population against white moderates and liberals, blacks, Latinos, and everyone else who is not one of “them”.

The majority of the white population supporting this is about 65 years old or older now. They will continue this voting behavior until they die of old age. Their hate is real and heartfelt. It is not supported be real world facts and reality. It is propagated purely by the ]right wing bubble propaganda which they choose over reality.

It’s very sad and scary that Trump has gotten away with sending such a blatantly racist tweet. I see zero push back from the mainstream media. There is nothing that Trump could say about Blacks or Latinos or Muslims which will cause the media to finally call him out and stop taking him as a serious candidate.

Plus, just heard about the shooting of BLM protesters by White Supremacists in Minneapolis. It’s getting uglier.

Sadly, I’m not sure if the persistent racism we’re seeing is the problem of older Whites. Younger Whites (college aged, under 60) appear to be part of the problem as well. Look at all of the hate incidents on campuses and the toxic spew by folks like CCJ and MRAs. Racism has been successfully passed down to the younger generation.

Personally, it’s my opinion that things will change when the demographics change and White people figure out that they’ll have to get along with everyone. Right now, too many White people look at civil rights as a zero sum game. If some other group gets civil rights, it’s a loss for Whites. That type of thinking should have disappeared in the 60s but it’s still here.

Now we have a majority of Whites believing that they are the victims of discrimination. What the hell?

It’s not mainly whites 65 and older. It’s also including low wage earning whites as well. I can point to my own family as an example. 35 years ago my whole family was hard core Democratic in Western PA. Then the steel industry died and took with it those good-paying union jobs. The Religious Right moved into the vacuum and turned a lot of folks I knew into hard core Republicans including all of my family. I look at their Facebook and Twitter posts in disbelief of the blatant racist hatred they have for the black man in the White House. Several have disabled children yet they refuse to sign up for Medicaid or Obamacare because of their brainwashing they get from hate radio, Jesus TV, right wing newspapers and Fox News. And what is so scary is that their children are ever further to the right than they are…

They were showing it on TV - and there’s the iconic image/photo of falling man.

I was in NYC, but I didn’t witness people jumping. I saw reports of the people falling, and that reporters and tv crews instead of aiming up at the towers began to focus on the reporters themselves because they were catching people jumping to their deaths - and then hearing the thuds as the people hit the ground.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what Trump was talking about.

Angry people are motivated people. But a poll this far out doesn’t mean all that much and for every poll showing the GOP with an edge, there’s more showing that Hillary (or Bernie) has an edge in head to heads and nationally.

Nothing to be complacent about, and all the more reason to aggressively work the GOTV and ground game even this far out. Can’t take anything for granted.

BTW, I find it funny that the Times would give Christie a front page above the fold story about how his campaign has “found new life” invoking 9/11 in NH. Ummm, he’s polling 7th there. He’s at 5.8% via RCP moving weekly average. He hasn’t gained ground against anyone. Hasn’t lost any either. He’s at a Lagrange point around the drain - doing just enough to stay in the race.

The report I’m referring to (via Drudge)? 5 people shot at a BLM protest in Minneapolis, and the perpetrators are believed to be white supremacists.

Miski Noor, a media contact for Black Lives Matter, said “a group of white supremacists showed up at the protest, as they have done most nights.”

One of the three counterdemonstrators wore a mask, said Dana Jaehnert, who had been at the protest site since early evening.

When about a dozen protesters attempted to herd the group away from the area, Noor said, they “opened fire on about six protesters,” hitting five of them. Jaehnert said she heard four gunshots.

The shootings occurred at 10:45 p.m. on Morgan Avenue N. about a block north of the precinct station.

A demonstrator spoke about his encounter with the assailants who shot five protesters earlier in the night with those gathered in front of the Minneapolis Police 4th Precinct headquarters early Tuesday morning.

The attackers fled. No arrests had been made by midnight Monday. Police said via their Twitter feed that they are searching for three white male suspects.

The gunshot victims were taken to North Memorial Medical Center and Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), deputy police chief Medaria Arradondo said at the scene.

I’m seeing mixed reports. Some say 1 of 2 crew survived, but are in rebel territory (which doesn’t quite define who’s actually in control - Daesh? FSA? Others?)

Turkey claims that the Russian jet was repeatedly warned for being inside Turkish airspace and refused to respond. Russia claims that the plane was at least 4km inside Syrian airspace.

Frankly, I have little reason to trust either Turkey or Russia on what happened. Both have been known to play fast/loose with the rules of engagement.

Moreover, the more you look at the Russian air campaign, the more you see that it’s all about indiscriminate bombing of targets that have little to do with fighting Daesh, and more about keeping Assad in power. The weapons being used aren’t high precision but dumb bombs being dropped from planes or helicopters with minimal targeting - they’re engaging in area denial.

But this is the kind of friction that will happen with multiple countries with multiple aims and goals all in the same airspace.

Will any journalist bother to ask Carson what he thinks of the Turks shooting down a Russian plane, seeing how he was all gung ho to shoot them down over Syria (and it’s not clear at this point where the plane was actually hit - in Syria or over Turkey).

re: Trump seeing jumpers at WTC on 9/11. He claims he saw them from his home in NYC on the morning of 9/11. He’s got an apartment 4 miles from the WTC in the Trump Tower on 5th Avenue. So, if he saw something, he either has super eyesight, was using binoculars, or is conflating news reports with what he actually saw.

As I was just a mile north in the West Village (Varick/Houston), the most I could see was a nonstop stream of smoke and debris coming out of the towers. I can’t recall seeing jumpers (or I have blotted that from my memory).

At the distance we’re talking about, there’s no way he could see anything more than a dot. Heck, being at the top of the WTC makes everyone at street level look like ants (1,300+ feet below). Now multiply that distance by 20.

Trump has super eyesight and super binoculars. His vision with them is so keen he’ll be able to spot illegal immigrants trying to get over the border wall from 20 miles away. Then he’ll summon the missile drones.

Good Morning! Some tidbits from last evening’s Trump Dump in Columbus…from the Columbus Dispatch web site.

One of the main articles on the campaign speech…

Dispatch - Kasich constituents say Trump’s approach appeals to them

- - CUT - -
However, many supporters cited Trump’s position as an outsider and his lack of political experience as one of his drawing points.

“(Kasich’s) been a career politician, he’s been a Washington insider and he’s been part of an establishment of the Republican party,” said Caleb Turner, a supporter from West Virginia. “We want a person who will shake Washington up and will bring people together, and it’s only going to take an outsider who will bring people together.”

Other supporters cited Trump’s success as a businessman as one of the reasons for their support.

“I’m not saying that John (Kasich) is not suited at all, what I’m saying is I believe Trump … is more of an economic leader. Trump has proven himself to be one with his wealth and assets and business leadership,” said Gary Larocca, a supporter from Midland, Ohio who originally lived near Kasich’s hometown of McKees Rocks, Pa.

- - CUT - -

Dispatch - Ohio Politics Now: Kasich campaign says more to come in attacks against Trump

GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump spoke to a crowd of thousands - 10,000 to 14,000 by different estimates - in Columbus last night, starting his speech first with the requisite O-H, I-O chant and then taking a swipe at fellow candidate and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

“Your governor is only 2 (percent), what happened?” Trump said to loud cheers. “I heard he was dropping out.”

Ahead of the rally, Trump tweeted, “Going to Ohio, home of one of the worst presidential candidates in history—Kasich. Can’t debate, loves #ObamaCare—dummy!”

The two have sparred recently - in debates and on Twitter - with Kasich allies promising attacks ads against billionaire Trump. But his initial comments on Kasich - a name he repeatedly mispronounce, saying Kay-sitch instead of Kay-sick - Trump left the Ohio governor alone.

“The political ruckus surrounding the Trump appearance was more like a campaign event a month before the general election, not one more than 11 months out — and more than two months before the first American casts a ballot in the 2016 race,”

What the Ohio Republican Party said: “After Trump’s hourlong speech on Monday night, Ohio Republican Chairman Matt Borges chastised him for ignoring his backstage admonition not to criticize a governor with a 60 percent-plus approval rating in a state that the GOP must win to regain the White House,” Rowland writes.

“We got to stay away from that stuff or it’s going to cost us the election,” said Borges, who remains officially neutral and pledged to support whoever wins the GOP nomination.

Why people wanted to see Trump: Dispatch reporter Dina Berliner talked to those at the rally and asked why they came out to support Trump.

“For many Ohioans, it’s not that they dislike Gov. John Kasich — it’s just that they like Donald Trump more,” Berliner writes. “Or at least that was the sentiment of many supporters who attended Trump’s first campaign rally in the state on Monday.”

“I like Donald Trump ‘cause he’s for the people, he speaks the truth,” said Sarah Daniels, a Trump supporter from Fremont, Ohio. “He is not here to cater to a certain group, he’s for everybody.”

The typical comments we’ve been seeing. “Oh, he speaks the Truth.” “He is such a great business man.”

Yuck. The Trump Campaign Cancer…it’s spreading. At least the sun is out today…and there was enough of a breeze overnight to carry the Trump stench away.

From the NYT:

Gov. Rick Snyder, who in September publicly rhapsodized about the boon that refugees were to Michigan’s economy, was among the first of more than two dozen Republican governors to vow last week that they would try to keep displaced Syrians out of their states to preserve the safety of Americans from would-be terrorists.

Presidential candidates and elected officials around the country have suggested closing mosques, collecting Syrian refugees already in the country or creating a registry for Muslims.

My Maryland governor is also being a douchecanoe about refugees, claiming nothing he’s gotten from the Administration has assured him, he has the support of the public, etc.

It’s just funny in a bad way how a state’s governor (MI) can two months ago claim how great the refugees were to the economy to now demanding none be allowed in his state.

So far, the Reagan library identifies those visiting on 2/2/1983 only as Afghan freedom fighters (contact sheet info for 1983) - it doesn’t specify who was at the meeting though. The typical comments we’ve been seeing. “Oh, he speaks the Truth.” “He is such a great business man.”

We’ll get to see just how strong Putin’s fifth column is. He’s been cultivating it for years, with rt.com feeding the conspiracy industry, fake social media accounts, and quite possibly active collusion with certain American conservative media.

Incidentally, formerly pro-American CBS-Texas radio host Charlie Jones has jumped on the Kremlin bandwagon, recently praising Putin and the Russians for attacks on Daesh fuel smuggling, and baldly claiming that the US had done nothing at all. He is not an idiot, superficial signs notwithstanding, so he could not have missed this:
VIDEO: AC-130 Gunships and A-10s Destroy 116 ISIS Fuel Trucks
Of course, Jones and his audience probably dismiss this story since it comes from American media and the US DoD rather than from rt.com.

One woman can be seen holding a gun and when the suspect is able to get free to make a run for it, she fires a shot over his head.

For what it’s worth old cast iron is noticeably lighter than the new stuff, because it was sand cast and finished by hand. That finishing is why the old stuff has a much smoother finish and can actually be made non-stick with proper seasoning. The new stuff Lodge, etc produces is garbage, it always has that rough orange peel finish that no amount of seasoning can salvage.

So, I was interested in again finding the WaPo article linked earlier in this thread about Trumps lies. But instead of scrolling back up to find the link I did a Google search. And there are several similar articles at WaPo according to the search. Some are blog articles, others are political commentators.

I get the feeling WaPo is actually out to allow Trump to go on doing this. I joked earlier about giving him cover. It might not be a joke.

Here is another from earlier today…

WaPo - Morning Plum: Here’s why Donald Trump’s lies don’t matter: He’s ‘strong.’

Members of the media are wringing their hands so hard over this perplexing question that their skin is practically peeling: How is it possible for Donald Trump to tell so many blatant lies, shrug off our fact-checks, and continue rising in the polls?

Easy: Because in the minds of his supporters, Trump has converted even the simple act of dismissing pointy-headed media fact-checks into a sign of his “strength.” Trump’s big insight is not simply that the details don’t matter. It’s that getting mired in the details is itself a sign of weakness.

This dynamic is perfectly captured by a single quote from an NBC News reporter. The subject was Trump’s latest glaring falsehood: his claim that “thousands and thousands of people were cheering” in New Jersey as the Twin Towers came down on 9/11. This has been decisively debunked by Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler.

But Trump’s supporters simply don’t care in the least. Here’s what NBC reporter Katy Tur, who interviewed Trump supporters at an Ohio rally, told the network’s Steve Kornacki:

“I spoke to a lot of his supporters who are waiting to come into this rally. And I asked them what they think of Donald Trump and whether or not they’re bothered by his inaccurate statements and whether they think they matter. And not a single one of them said that they thought it mattered. They said they like him because they think he’s going to be a strong leader, and they think he’s going to bring the change to Washington that they want.

“In fact, they blame the liberal media, as they say, on perpetrating lies against Donald Trump. They repeatedly asked, why don’t you ask this about Hillary Clinton, why don’t you ask this about President Obama? So there’s definitely a party line feeling among his supporters, that it is us-versus-them. And unfortunately, the media is very much the ‘them’ in this situation.”

That’s it, in a nutshell. Trump’s supporters have been persuaded that he will be a “strong leader.” Once that decision has been made, any liberal media fact-checking of Trump’s statements, particularly criticisms that seem “politically correct,” only confirm that original impression. Trump’s willingness to “say what needs to be said,” in spite of media attacks on him, only further illustrates that he’ll do whatever it takes to accomplish whatever it is his supporters think he’s promising to accomplish when he vows to “make America great again.”

Not enough. Another WaPo article from even earlier…still with a Nov 24th dateline.

WaPo - Why Donald Trump may think he saw people cheering on 9/11

There’s a difference between a lie and an honest mistake. However slight, it’s a crucial distinction in politics, and especially in the campaign of Donald Trump.

On Saturday, the real-estate magnate insisted that after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, he watched news footage of “thousands of thousands of people” celebrating in northern New Jersey — “where you have large Arab populations,” in his words.

Journalists have searched news archives for any evidence of such footage and turned up empty handed. Public officials and law enforcement in New Jersey say Trump’s account is utterly false.

But Trump’s assertion might not be a bald-faced lie. Psychologists suggest that people unconsciously fabricate memories all the time, and that Trump might have done the same.

“I can’t say that he’s not lying,” said Deryn Strange, a psychologist at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. “But my research, and the research of my colleagues, certainly supports a more charitable interpretation: that this is a false memory.”

— CUT —

“Just because someone tells you something with a lot of confidence, detail and emotion, it doesn’t mean it really happened,” she said.

When it comes to the news, she noted, people are more likely to invent memories that support their political beliefs. She and her colleague showed participants in an online survey a doctored photograph of a false event involving either President George W. Bush or President Obama. They found that liberals were more likely to say they remembered President Bush vacationing with baseball ace Roger Clemens at his ranch during Hurricane Katrina, while conservatives were more likely to say they remembered President Obama meeting with former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad. Neither meeting took place.

Trump, who has made his opposition to immigration well known, may have similarly invented a memory of seeing foreign-born residents of New Jersey on television, Loftus suggested.

“He’s got this belief, and it’s going to help him construct a false memory that supports that belief,” she said.

Trump’s story recalls that of another front-runner in a contested presidential primary — Hillary Clinton, who said in 2008 that she had come under sniper fire in Bosnia. It wasn’t a lie, but a mistake, she later said.

Unlike Trump, though, Clinton apologized when journalists disproved her story. “I made a mistake. That happens,” she said. “It proves I’m human, which, you know, for some people, is a revelation.”

Trump did not retreat when George Stephanopolous confronted him with the facts on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday.

“It was on television. I saw it,” Trump told Stephanopolous. “They were cheering as the World Trade Center came down.”

Damn. The WaPo is hard at work. No wonder why the Donald likes to read them. Soory if these have already been covered, but I don’t recall all of them.

re: #472 goddamnedfrank

For what it’s worth old cast iron is noticeably lighter than the new stuff, because it was sand cast and finished by hand. That finishing is why the old stuff has a much smoother finish and can actually be made non-stick with proper seasoning. The new stuff Lodge, etc produces is garbage, it always has that rough orange peel finish that no amount of seasoning can salvage.

But you probably knew that.

The old stuff was also all iron ore, whereas now they use recycled iron. (Nice video on the Lodge site, somewhere.) The old stuff was strong with less iron. And they used to machine the cooking surface, even on the OLD Lodges.

If Abbott’s discomfort with Syrian refugees had remained at the level of gubernatorial grandstanding—keeping in mind the fact that governors lack the authority to deny specific religious or ethnic groups entry into their states—then it would likely not have been more newsworthy than similar reservations expressed by a host of other American governors. But with the letter to nonprofits and other private agencies with refugee resettlement programs, Texas moved into direct opposition to federal law and, some say, threatened the religious liberty of numerous Texan faith groups.

“The letter the HHSC sent, they crossed a line into actual substantive policy steps,” Bee Moorhead, executive director of Texas Impact/Texas Interfaith Center for Public Policy, said in a phone call with the New Republic. Texas Impact is the oldest and largest interfaith social action network in Texas, and functions as a membership organization for faith groups doing state-level advocacy and interpreting public policy.

There has to be a law enforcement pushback brewing over this kind of stuff. Even just a couple of years ago, concealed carry training in Texas explicitly forbid this sort of vigilante warning-shot shit. I know police enthusiasm for open carry is pretty mixed. Somebody is going to get seriously hurt or worse before too long. Some inbred dumbfuck outside of a mosque will start a gunfight, or a cop wannabe will fire a warning shot that hits a pretty little white girl, and…

…well, nothing, because this state’s “leadership” is non-existent. Unless there’s some reaction from police unions or a Republican politician who, against all odds, has a functioning brain.

Somewhere in the last 3-4 years this place has gone completely off the rails, and now we’re a national embarrassment almost twice a day.

So, this morning when I dragged my ass out of bed at 4 a.m., I hopped into the shower after my morning coffee and to my horror, it was a cold shower. Nothing like a cold shower at four in the morning when the outside temperature is 28 degrees.

Anyway, this is why:

[translated]

“Interruption of the supply of heat and hot water was caused by leaks in the hot water pipe. We are working hard to repair,” advised Veolia on its website. According to available information, there is a failure of the pipeline near the Kaufland stores in Ostrava-Zábřeh.

On the Web site stated that failure resulted in the Monday, November 23 at 8 pm in the evening, according to initial information should be removed until today (on Tuesday, November 24) at 8 pm in the evening. Veolia later reported that the supply of heat will gradually start recovering as early as Tuesday afternoon.

The disorder is manifested, for example, in schools and kindergartens. “This morning we explained to parents that it will be cold. So those who had the chance to take them back home. Next they came for their children already after lunch,” she told the teacher of one of the nurseries.

moravskoslezsky.denik.cz

After the shower I noticed there was no heat in the apartment; the building I live in was given fresh polystyrene insulation last year, so that keeps the place warm during the winter. On my way to work, I saw the steam plume near the Kaufland store that the article mentions - I thought to myself, “Well now…..that’s damned odd. I’ve never seen that before” and sure enough, it was a major leak.

In any event, it’s fixed now.

Well I can tell you which Salon writer won’t be invited to my Thanksgiving. Seriously, to each his own but it’s one of the best dinners of the year.

Who the hell thinks YOU HAVE TO HAVE chokingly dry overcooked turkey breast, gooey teeth-aching candied sweet potatoes and canned pumpkin pie in a frozen crust?

Thanksgiving is the best holiday.

You don’t have to decorate. You don’t have to buy a lot of presents. You don’t have to dress up. All you have to do is make a meal and eat it.

I ski every Thanksgiving as long as I’m not stuck in SW TX with relatives…the double-edged sword. It was mentioned awhile back earlier in this thread- what a crap hole place that is- but I had to do work stuff and couldn’t comment. It’s a horrid place.

In any case, I’m staying home this year, my aging dog is happy for that. I’m slow-cooking an organic grass-fed chuck roast, trying something different. I’ll eat turkey at the neighbor’s house, too. Win-win. Being single has it’s perks.

I’ve never had homemade cranberry sauce. That sounds good. I don’t mind it out of the can but I think I’d prefer it homemade. I can definitely tell the difference between homemade mashed potatoes and processed mashed potatoes just as I can between pies. I insisted that we got the Pumpkin Pie from Costco this year. This is not a matter of aesthetics—cosmic stability is at stake. If you remove the top of the cranberry can and puncture the bottom, a sustained puff of compressed air will slide the Sacred Cylinder onto the dish intact. In an auspicious year, even the embossed lot number from the can bottom can be read.

That does sound good.

(Just olive oil and sea-salt on the plank, nothing or maybe a lemon slice on the fish.)

re: #550 Dr Lizardo

So, this morning when I dragged my ass out of bed at 4 a.m., I hopped into the shower after my morning coffee and to my horror, it was a cold shower. Nothing like a cold shower at four in the morning when the outside temperature is 28 degrees.

Anyway, this is why:

After the shower I noticed there was no heat in the apartment; the building I live in was given fresh polystyrene insulation last year, so that keeps the place warm during the winter. On my way to work, I saw the steam plume near the Kaufland store that the article mentions - I thought to myself, “Well now…..that’s damned odd. I’ve never seen that before” and sure enough, it was a major leak.

In any event, it’s fixed now.

Wait? Does that mean hot water is provided as a utility? The building doesn’t have it’s own water heaters? Damn Europe is weird…

I have an aversion to poultry type grub of any kind, so my mom always cooked ham and roast beef along with the turkey. With nine children in the house, she could cook any amount of anything and not worry over much about any of it being wasted.

I can abide turkey and dressing these days, barely, but I will not touch giblet gravy. As a child, I was always leery of the stuff since the very name, giblet, evoked unspeakable leftover parts of a critter that was already a dead bird to start with.

I realize it is hard for writers to come up with fun, new original content that is seasonally appropriate, but really, who doesn’t like Thanksgiving?

I get it-no one in her family can cook or has the imagination to say “hey, let’s make food we really like” but why would you advertise that fact?

I just got back from the store with my free range, heritage breed turkey, which I will not over cook and it will therefore be delicious. There will be crackers and Cowgirl Creamery’s Mt. Tam triple cream cheese (expensive, but sooooo worth it!) I will make stuffing and cranberry sauce, purple mashed potatoes with shallots, and broccoli with asiago cheese. Mr. C will produce a pumpkin pie. The family will gather. We will eat, and drink wine, and talk. What’s not to like?

This is not a matter of aesthetics—cosmic stability is at stake. If you remove the top of the cranberry can and puncture the bottom, a sustained puff of compressed air will slide the Sacred Cylinder onto the dish intact. In an auspicious year, even the embossed lot number from the can bottom can be read.

I am quoting the cranberry discussion to my niece. Who, unlike me, does not understand the true meaning of cranberry sauce presentation.
