Ted Cruz Is a Fan of the Stupidest Man on the Internet, Because of Course He Is

WTF
Politics • Views: 71,888

When the right wing fever swamp started circulating the absurd lie that the Colorado shooter was a “left wing tranny,” I laughed at it. This ridiculous fake story started at the website of the Stupidest Man on the Internet, Jim Hoft, as so many bizarre counter-factual right wing stories do, and I just assumed nobody could possibly give it more than a second’s thought before laughing it off.

(Synopsis: Hoft found a voter record that incorrectly listed Robert Lewis Dear as “female,” and jumped to the conclusion that this meant he “identified as a woman,” instead of assuming it was a clerical error, as it almost certainly was. And the website where Hoft found that voter record has now deleted their page, probably to avoid spreading more misinformation.)

But boy, was I wrong. Not only did right wingers eagerly seize on this crackpot story, it has now made it all the way to one of the leading Republican candidates for President of the United States, a guy who has been absolutely rabid in his incitement against Planned Parenthood and recently proudly announced the endorsement of a radical anti-choice activist who believes murdering abortion doctors is justified.

Yes, it’s gotten this bad, folks. GOP candidates for president are now getting their information from neo-Nazis, Alex Jones and the Stupidest Man on the Internet.

I think I’m getting a migraine.

And rather than being delegitimized for using these assholes, instead the media will decide that said neo-Nazis, wingnut Jones, and SMOTI is ‘very serious’ and legitimze them instead.

I know folks have asked aloud in the past why we pay attention to people like Chucky, Dim Jim, or the Breitbartians under the belief that nobody takes them seriously and we’re “wasting our time” focusing on them rather than discussing other topics. Well, after today, I think we can safely say that the attention we give them is totally warranted, because they are slowly becoming influential enough that they’re garnering the attention of presidential candidates. And yes, folks, Ted Cruz is still a viable candidate and could very well win the nomination.

13
The Vicious Babushka  Nov 29, 2015 • 6:33:54pm

Exactly. This is why it’s a REALLY bad idea to ignore the garbage spewed by people like Hoft, Geller, Spencer and Chucky. When we ignore them they get stronger because the right wing noise machine uses them to spread hate and misinformation. The only way to fight back is to expose them, as unpleasant as that often is.

It is a regency romance. The story is not actually done yet, but there were two different goals going here - to actually finish NaNo (I’d started once in college, but it got swamped under a combination of lab reports and not having a clear idea of where I was going with the plot) and to get this story written.

I’ve committed to finishing the first draft of the story by the end of this week, but now I can actually take tomorrow off (and maybe one more day) and deal with some of the piles of EVERYTHING that have built up while I have been dropping everything to write.

Ted Cruz could easily win the Iowa Caucus. Public opinion can, and often does, switch on a dime in presidential campaigns, as it did to Rudy Guliani and Howard Dean, who were both formidable frontrunners until the voting actually started. If Ted Cruz does win Iowa, he instantly replaces Trump as the leading anti-establishment candidate with an excellent chance of winning the nomination.

Apparently one of the newer efforts by wingnuts to remove any responsibility for Dear’s actions from themselves is to point to a single line from a WaPo story on the shooting, where neighbors say they never heard him talk about religion or abortion, as proof that he was not motivated by either.

This from the same crowd who A) swore up and down that a lone nut who shot two cops meant BLM had “blood on their hands” because he was motivated by their anti-cop rhetoric and B) likewise swore up and down that Dylann Roof couldn’t be a racist because his roommate said he’d never heard Roof say anything he considered racist.

Like CBS radio’s Charlie Jones. Harrison is a pretentious right wing blowhard who pretends to know a great deal more than he does. He is a laughingstock among aviation buffs for his frequent errors about that subject, and the assured, confident tone with which he asserts his ignorance. He challenged the authenticity of a P-38 pilot’s Mediterranean theater flight jacket because he was “pretty sure” P-38s were “Pacific only.” Of course, P-38s were heavily used in the Med and even casual buffs will know this. This is not something I would expect the general public to know but someone claiming expert knowledge off top of his head should have at least the cursory facts.

Be nice to the “ladyboys”, or the club’s bouncer will toss you out on your ear.

My Chinese friends have taken package tours of Thailand. One of the stops is invariably a night club featuring ladyboy performers, like a Vegas showgirl venue but with transgender performers.

I tell them I visited Thailand, but skipped the ladyboy shows, because I’m from New York City. It’s nothing new to me.

That is quite possibly the worst graphic I’ve ever seen. It would be comically bad if the sentiment behind it wasn’t so earnestly insane.

To be perfectly honest, my first thought was that it was a catration in progress. Of Chucky. Then it resolved into the horror that it is.

A message we need to get out

TO ALL ACTIVE HETEROSEXUAL AMERICAN MALES

If you are interested in having sex with a woman (even you wife) for anything other than procreational purposes, then you need to ensure that women have access to the sort of reproductive healthcare provided by Planned Parenthood.

Every attack, physical or political, against PP is like someone kicking you in the nuts every time you look at a woman and think anything other than “Gee! I’d sure like to father a(nother) child!!!”

Here are the Most Popular Toys of The Year, according to Babushka’s family:

1. “Playmags” (also called “Magna Tiles”) magnet building blocks.
2. Snap Circuits Electronics sets
3. Art supplies
4. Assorted Disney branded shit (“Frozen” and “Princess Sophie”)

Cameras in cell phones weren’t even on the US market until 2002, so if someone says, “I have photos/vids I recorded on my phone on 9/11!”, they’re lying. The first cell phones with a built-in camera were sold in Japan by J-Phone in 2000.

The odds of one of those turning up in the US by the time of September 11th attacks is pretty damned remote, I’d say.

Pretty much. I see it here in GA all the time. I’m not even that damned brilliant and it’s not that hard to figure out where much of the problems lie. Rich and privileged assholes laugh all the way to the bank while people fight and kill each other over abortion and terrorists and where they THINK their tax money goes.

I had a conversation with a right wing neighbor once and I flat out asked him how much money he thought was being wasted on poor, lazy moochers spending his tax money. Like what percentage of the national budget goes to that. He thought it was half. HALF. I said no, half the budget actually goes to the defense industry. His SIL works for Lockheed, and he honestly thought I was lying to him. I asked him where he got the idea that half the budget goes to the poor (like that would be awful) and he told me he read some stuff on facebook and on some websites. I gave up.

The solution to that is simple. When some wingnut does that: Send in the SWAT team, take his guns from at gunpoint, and then send him to jail to await trial on charges of unlawful discharge of a firearm and property destruction.

In addition, Amazon can and should sue those who attack their drones for property destruction.

But remember, let’s keep out Syrian refugees, who are trying to escape terror inflicted on them by IS and Assad because Islamic terrorism is the real threat (even as the perpetrators of the Paris (France) attacks were French or Belgians, not refugees).

Of course, the mass killings/shooting incidents in the US all blend into each other because they come so often (like clockwork) that they no longer shock as they once did (or should have).

We can thank the right wing in large part for refusing even the most mild steps to tighten existing laws on background checks, which could help reduce the carnage that ticks off 3 more dead every hour - 2 from suicide, 1 from homicide.

That he was inspired by the terror-wing of the anti-abortion/forced-birth movement, and the CMP videos (and the right wing spin of same) seems to be dismissed as a one-off.

We’d also have to ignore the ongoing attacks against PP facilities nationally, and the steady and ongoing threats that the clinic facilities face on a daily basis.

What’s ignored is that the terrorism against PP is taking on aspects of the Islamic terror groups, whose most recent attempts at attacks in the US are of the lone-wolf variety, with few/any direct links to a major/organized terror group.

What we get are terrorists inspired by the extremists, without the direct ties, even though the fingerprints are all over the attacks in terms of rhetoric and motive.

Everything is a conspiracy against the man. If the local deli runs out of his favorite roast beef before he gets there, he thinks they’re deliberately withholding it from him because one of the customers pressured them to do so.

So, the video that he saw with his own eyes doesn’t exist because of ancient technology available on 9/11. Celebrations of Muslims in NJ on 9/11 that Trump claims to have seen on tv don’t exist because of ancient technology.

Or a conspiracy.

Or the nonsensical ravings of a lunatic mind whose followers are following him down the rabbit hole into conspiracy-land (though I suspect more than a few are already there and are more than happy to welcome Trump into their fold - as Trump has previously flirted with other conspiracies - like birtherism).

Nothing Trump says or does at this point can be identified as factual. It’s all irrelevant to him and his followers.

I’m not sure where things stand now, but he’s probably right. My mom was born and raised a few miles up the road in Meriwether County, GA. Besides the black church, there was the Primitive Baptist, the Baptist, and Methodist churches in her small town. Everybody was “cousin Margaret” or “cousin Nathaniel.” Come to think of it, they may have all been cousins, for the most part.

Marking a decline?

First they try to spin Dear’s attack as something of a lone wolf/separate and apart from the terror-wing of the anti-abortion/forced-birth movement.

Tonight, I’m sure we’ll hear the latest on how the PP shooting is somehow proof of the vast Left-Wing takeover of the country and why things like these demonstrate the need for Dems to run to the right or lose the country forever.

Outstanding (45 - 50): World-class example of style.
Excellent (38 - 44): Exemplifies style well, requires minor fine-tuning.
Very Good (30 - 37): Generally within style parameters, some minor flaws.
Good (21 - 29): Misses the mark on style and/or minor flaws.
Fair (14 - 20): Off flavors/aromas or major style deficiencies. Unpleasant.
Problematic (00 - 13): Major off flavors and aromas dominate. Hard to drink.

Anti-abortion head of Homeland Security committee: Colorado shooting was not ‘domestic terrorism’

Calling the attack on a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic more of a “mental illness” issue, the Republican chair of the House Homeland Security Committee refused to describe the assault that left three dead and eight wounded as “domestic terrorism.”

[…]

“It’s a tragedy. It’s, I think, a mental health crisis,” said McCaul, adding, “I don’t think it would fall under quite the definition of domestic terrorism, although I’ll leave that to the Justice Department to make that determination.”

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. — The blue eyes of Pamela Ross, 54, wince and cloud when she thinks back on the years that she spent with her ex-husband, Robert L. Dear Jr. They were together 16 years or so, and married for about a dozen of them.

He was good to the son they had together, now 25 years old, whom they raised in Walterboro, S.C., about an hour west of Charleston, with her son from a previous relationship.

She acknowledged on Saturday that she had once called the police about him but declined to talk about it. A police incident report shows that in 1997 she told the police that he had locked her out of her home, and had “hit her and pushed her out the window” when she tried to climb in. He also shoved her to the ground. The report said she did not want to file any charges, but simply “wanted something on record of this incident occurring.”

“Domestic terrorism” means activities with the following three characteristics:

1. Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
2. Appear intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination. or kidnapping; and
3. Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S.

Seriously though, the name relates to the bygone era when folks didn’t have high speed connections at home and would wait until Monday to go into work to buy stuff on sale. Now, anyone with a smartphone can busy away anywhere/anytime and buy stuff on sale.

I heard that folks stayed out of the stores in droves on “Black Friday” they were too busy ordering stuff online.

The word/prefix “cyber” has no meaning in today’s world. CMIIW but wasn’t the word originally coined to mean creatures that were part organic and part machine? How does that even apply to the Internet and how we use it?

355
lawhawk  Nov 30, 2015 • 9:29:47am

re: #350 b.d.

All the sales and the need to goad folks into buying stuff has shifting where/when sales are made.

Black Friday has become less important as sales have migrated to Thanksgiving proper, and then to the days and even week before Thanksgiving. Likewise, who needs to wait until Monday for CyberMonday when the same outlets are giving sales online all weekend.

It’s simply reshuffling the days when sales happen - and if anything, it’s made going to the mall a bit easier since fewer people are rushing to buy stuff.

Actually, modern computer technology and automation is almost the exact opposite of the original meaning of “cybernetics”. Well sure, that’s the way politics works, like a TV procedural, one issue at a time, wrapped up in 44 minutes (plus commercials), every week. I mean, if those cops can solve a murder with no leads like that, the president should totally be able to solve every issue the same way. hell, he’s the president, he should be able to do it in 25 minutes (plus commercials).

When Dear shows up for his court date and asks to be placed in a woman’s facility, I’ll buy he’s transgendered but the eye test and knowledge about clerical errors leads me to believe he’s not and that it was a clerical error that identified him as female.

I don’t think it was even a “clerical error” per se. Dim Jim and the right-wing losers linked to a genealogy website that actually states:

Huckabee would move to renounce the DoD report that indicated a need to find alt-energy and reduce energy footprint (even though fuel needs are a huge part of war-fighting logistics), but that’s why Huckabee is a fool.

And he would do it because denial of AGW is yet another article of faith for the GOP, not because there’s no evidence, not because there’s any question about the physics involved, but because Liberals accept it.

I have struggled to understand the Conservative mindset on energy usage and conservation, renewable energy, and climate change, and all I can come up with is that it’s essentially “I DON’T WANNA!!!!” Leave aside the fact that nobody’s saying we need to sit in the dark, in the cold, wrapped up in sweaters and wool caps, all driving little crap boxes that run on potato peels - it’s as if they see wasteful consumption of resources as not only their right as Americans, but as a positive patriotic duty.

There was a woman in the East Bay a few years back, CLEARLY mentally imbalanced. she was running her sprinklers practically 24/7. The neighbors were tired of their yards getting squishy, and we ALWAYS need water in CA.

“Let me just gently disagree — and you know I love you slightly,” Rivera replied. “This will be — 2015 — the hottest year on record. We’ve had nine out of 10 hottest years since the year 2000 in this century. So, I think the planet is getting warmer. I think the question is what’s responsible.”

Williams was used as a black kid who attacked Obama, thereby ‘negating’ the racism of the Right. Prussian Blue were just a couple of pretty girls used to put a pretty blonde face on Nazism. In the end, the difference in usage is a matter of degree. I’d argue the use of Williams is more insidious, since the goal is to provide a cover for racism.

In both cases, though, it is a disgusting exploitation of the tendency of children to espouse what their parents tell them.

I don’t expect to change many minds so I rarely if ever engage in political proselytizing I think people who know me well know where I stand. I do actually try to respect opposing views but I admit it’s become harder and harder because so many Republicans can’t even admit that Obama was born here or loves this country. In regards to the quote about the cemetery which wouldn’t allow Native Americans to be buried there till 1960: I lost a baby cousin to a crib death in 1962. Only one cemetery in Denver would allow her burial because my uncle had married a Japanese girl when he was stationed in Korea, and the baby was ‘mixed blood.’

Yeah I enjoyed them. We were talking on our lunch break one day and I told him (he’s Taiwanese) that I noticed that no American Chinese places do breakfast. He said most of the ones that do are in Chinatowns or Chinese enclaves. Just so happened that he visited his mother in NYC and brought back the entire office pastries the following week. If I had stayed there longer, I would have brought in the potica (nut roll) that my cousin makes us every year and sends down. Anyone ever tried those? Those are good. More of a dessert than breakfast item. I’m partial to the poppyseed myself which is gravy for me since I’m the only one in the family who likes that flavor. I’m in the midst of an ethical dilemma. Made a run to the pet store about 8 miles away and stopped at the Wendy’s next door to there for a burger to nosh on the way to my next errands. Bill was $4.54, I gave her $20.54. She handed me 3 bills, 5 on top. I stuffed the bills in my purse without looking and drove off. When I got to the grocery check-out, I saw a couple of $20s I didn’t remember having. Realized that the young woman at Wendy’s gave me not 3 $5 bills but one $5 and 2 $20s. Had I just looked at the change she gave me I certainly would have made the correction then and there.

I do not want to see her stuck for the $30 discrepancy or worse, lose her job for the mistake. I also don’t want to make the 16 mile round trip (a lot since I still feel crappy from the flu, I have a sinus headache from hell and only went out because I HAD to) and possibly get her busted by walking in there, probably having to talk to a manager and point her out. I don’t see any way to quietly correct the error at this point short of going thru the window, ordering food I don’t want and hoping that same woman is still there.

What to do? I feel like a heel.

Not much you can do. That’s an awful big mistake for a kid to make. Hopefully they won’t fire her and she’ll learn a valuable lesson. Another possibility is this kid messes up a lot and maybe shouldn’t be driving a cash register. Another even more outlandish possibility is that she’s stealing. Seems strange that giving you too much money would be an indicator but I had a coworker who got caught because her drawers were always off by odd amounts of money, and she had to sometimes give the wrong change to keep her drawer from getting too high. She was taking money for orders and not entering them into the register, so she had to take out money sometimes, and when the manager was hanging around too much, she had to unload it on a customer. Funny thing was a couple of customers were good samaritans (and gave the extra money back) and that made the manager suspicious (they had already been watching the food to see if we were wasting too much), so he pulled a drawer mid-shift and she was about 60 bucks over.

Texas to refugee groups: If you let in a Syrian, we might sue you

Texas officials are escalating their opposition to Syrian refugees with a new message aimed specifically at resettlement groups that have indicated they will accept people fleeing the war-torn country: change your mind or risk getting sued by the state.

Texas health commissioner Chris Traylor issued the first lawsuit threat over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in a letter to the Dallas branch of the International Rescue Committee, which said earlier this month that it supports accepting Syrian refugees.

We have to be careful because Syrians might bring in their habits of bullying government functionaries.

NEW: CO shooting suspect Robert Dear was carrying duffel bags full of rifles and hand guns when he arrived at clinic, sources tell @CBSNews.

Mental illness…lone wolf…nothing to see here. //

A duffle bag full of rifles and handguns….sounds like a typical, card-carrying M-to-F transgender.

@ArmyJew Is there any way to prosecute stochastic terrorism in a country with free speech? Can we hold hate-media responsible for this?

I suggest we start calling the inciter media the Lone Wolfpack.

Don’t think you’d have to force the boys to shower with the girls but the girls might not like it.

///

You might have to force the boys to go back and shower with the girls after one experience of the girls dissing the less-than-impressive view. Junior high school girls are pretty evil.

Here’s a typical workday for Texas’ attorney general: “I go into the office, I sue the federal government and I go home,” Greg Abbott was quoted as saying to a tea party group in an April 30, 2013, Associated Press news story.

re: #595 allegro

Ooh, that’s a difficult one. If you call the manager and explain the problem, the cashier gets in trouble for a mistake and could get fired. On the other hand, if you don’t let them know there’s been a mistake, the cashier may be suspected of theft and probably will get fired. The chances of quietly correcting even if you turned around now isn’t high. Heck of a thing to have to decide with a horrible sinus headache! {{hugs}}

And last time I checked, none of his buildings were LEED certified. Don’t see enviromental stewardship awards either. Kinda sucks when you’re a RE developer and missing out on easy ways to improve your bottom line (and yeah, I know there are folks who think LEED is a waste b/c it certifies the wrong kinds of things, or forces certain kinds of spending).

Texas to refugee groups: If you let in a Syrian, we might sue you

We have to be careful because Syrians might bring in their habits of bullying government functionaries.

So we don’t need welfare and other help because the churches and other organizations will do it, except when the government tells them not to.
