Cruz Beclowned: Planned Parenthood Attacker Robert Lewis Dear Is Not a “Transgendered Left Wing Activist”

Thanks to Jim Hoft, the Pied Piper of Stupid
WTF • Views: 54,111

A few days ago Ted Cruz made the news by floating a bizarre story that sprang from the febrile mind of Jim Hoft, the Stupidest Man on the Internet, that Planned Parenthood shooter Robert Lewis Dear was actually a “transgendered leftist activist.” Cruz had no speculation about why such a person would choose to attack Planned Parenthood, but as with most right wing fake stories logic is way down on the priority list.

This idiotic claim was based on a flimsy piece of evidence: a voter record that listed Dear’s gender as “female.” From this the right wing fever swamp evolved an entire theory that he was “transgendered,” instead of assuming it was a simple clerical error as I pointed out on Sunday.

Well, I was right, and once again people who followed the Stupidest Man on the Internet down the rabbit hole — for example, presidential candidate Ted Cruz — end up with dirt on their faces.

Ryan Parsell, El Paso County’s chief deputy clerk and recorder, said his office incorrectly recorded Dear’s gender in October 2014, leading to the issuance of both a driver’s license and voter’s registration card erroneously identifying him as a woman.

“The Clerk and Recorder’s Office processes over 500,000 transactions a year,” Parsell said. “Mistakes are going to be made, and it is a reminder to us of the important job that we do to see that a mistake made by us has had national implications.”

What Parsell described as a data entry error occurred after the 57-year-old Dear moved to tiny Hartsel in Park County, which doesn’t have a driver’s license office.

Records show Dear traveled 65 miles to a Colorado Springs clerk and recorder’s office to obtain his driver’s license and his voter’s registration card, Parsell said.

Although Dear clearly identified himself as a man, the information was incorrectly logged into a computer, Parsell added.

“Our employee inadvertently clicked on ‘female’ and gave the confirmation to Mr. Dear to review,” he said. “He missed it and signed it.”

It was obvious to anyone that it was a clerical error. No quotes by neighbors saying they saw him in women’s clothes, certainly didn’t appear like a woman the day he did the shooting, and we did not hear him request as transgendered people often do to be put in the gender they feel’s jail. Will Hoft and Cruz retract this, of course not. Clerical errors do happen. it’s part of life. Too bad assholes like Cruz and Hoft lack the decency to admit theirs.

Considering that the shooter is a guy, and his views align with right wing extremists, it’s no surprise that Hoft and Cruz both categorically state that the shooter is a leftist transgender.

It makes perfect sense.

If up is down, right is wrong, and the sky is green.

Cruz will continue to source his news from places like Hoft and doesn’t care that he’s got egg on his face. His followers, like those of Trump, don’t care about silly things like facts.

They’ll simply regurgitate whatever their chosen right wing candidate says, regardless of how farcical it is.

The problem is made worse by a media that plays MBF and doesn’t call out candidates when they blatantly lie.

You know, I remember it used to be that guys like this would be in the House. The House had maybe a few given fringe members- inevitable I suppose since there’s bound ot be a few districts out there so whacked out but this fucker represents an entire state though you could have fooled me since Ted Cruz since the day he was elected has only cared about serving right wing extremism. I haven’t seen him ever take a position that wasn’t right wing.

Speaking of Responsible Gun Owners, several police unions are citing terrorism and the Paris attacks in their long standing fight to…demand the NFL allow off-duty police to pack at games and in stadiums. You know, for safety.

Once again, ‘gun’ is apparently the only safety, ever, and if you stand against guns, you apparently hate life and are the worst person ever in existence.

I had seen ‘Some Like It Hot’ before, almost certainly at home on TV, when the future Mrs. FBW dragged me to a double feature of that, and ‘Victor, Victoria’ at the Castro Theater in SF. It was a hoot and a half. The largely gay audience laughed at a number of spots I’d previously overlooked.

Colorado GOP lawmaker: Planned Parenthood is the ‘real culprit’ in the shooting

State Rep. JoAnn Windholz blames Planned Parenthood for the Nov. 27 shooting, at its Colorado Springs clinic, that left three dead and nine injured. She is one of the few Colorado Republicans to issue a statement in the wake of the attack.

“Violence is never the answer, but we must start pointing out who is the real culprit. The true instigator of this violence and all violence at any Planned Parenthood facility is Planned Parenthood themselves. Violence begets violence. So Planned Parenthood: YOU STOP THE VIOLENCE INSIDE YOUR WALLS.”

A lot of willful misrepresentation too, like they’re all saying climate change is THE one and only reason for terrorism, which is exactly what they’re NOT saying. Yeah I see a lot of mocking of Obama, Nye, Sanders, and a lot of others who talk about climate change being a national security issue. it is. Just because it may sound like ZOMG WEATHER doesn’t mean it’s not. Conversely China’s one child policy is going to cause crime issues.

Climate change is absolutely a national security issue.

Let’s take the basics. Water.

Droughts, famines, food insecurity can all lead to failed states and havens for terror groups. Heck, we’ve seen that in the past as Ethiopia and Somalia have been breeding ground for terror groups and where terror groups have recruited in the past.

Wars over water rights is not out of the realm of possibility either.

And then there’s the costs of fighting around the world. It means having to do the logistics to fly equipment/gear and keep it supplied. That includes all kinds of fuels and energy supplies - so reducing the carbon footprint means reducing the amount of fuel/energy that has to be delivered. Reduces the footprint while maintaining a nimble military force.

On and on it goes, but the right wing seems to conflate climate change=terrorism, when the world is far more complex than that. By their own conflation, they show just how unprepared they are to deal with the world.

On a more positive note.

Today is World AIDS day, but yesterday was St Andrews Day in Scotland, (St Andrews is the patron saint of Scotland) and BBC Scotland broadcast a documentary “Coming Oot! A Fabulous History of Gay Scotland”, which shows how far Scotland has progressed in terms of LGBTI rights in only a generation.

If you’re in the UK (Or you know how to make your browser pretend it’s from the UK.) it’s on the BBC iPlayer here for the next 4 weeks. If you can’t get it, there’s a summary of the programme in this BBC feature, and more detail from the show’s historical researcher here.

It was fascinating to watch, especially as it’s all happened in my lifetime, and also there’s quite a few folk I know featured in the documentary, such as Bee Fiarse Beujambles and Showna Boaby in this clip, (Which, again might not work outside the UK) and Tom Harlow and Kevin Holdsworth in the offical trailer. (Which might work as it’s Facebook and not iPlayer.)

This is because 1) Terrorism = Islamist terrorism, and only Islamist terrorism, and 2) denial of AGW is an article of faith on the Right. Like other articles of faith, like Evolution or tax cuts not paying for themselves, it simply CANNOT BE TRUE, therefore any evidence of it must be faked.

To them, Terrorism isn’t a tactic used by the weaker side in asymmetrical warfare, but rather a uniquely Muslim barbarism, unlike anything anywhere else, and driven entirely by their religion.

That is not the point. We live in an age of Tweets, sound bites, bullet-point headlines and sensationalism.

People flip out over the thought of ISIS beheadings or Ebola because those are gut issues.

Long-term processes like climate and the resulting effects of dwindling resources are simply too slow and subtle to fir into the pattern of modern news reporting and political discourse.

That may be the most disgusting thing they do. Using a Civil Rights hero to put down someone trying to restrict people’s civil rights. It’s bad enough that they lie about Civil Rights, it’s even worse when they try to use someone who does exactly what Wallace, Connor, Thurmond, etc did to blacks but this time to gays and make them out to be someone like Rosa Parks, MLK, or John Lewis.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel won office twice on a promise to put a lid on gun violence, improve the police’s relationship with the public and repair the city’s corrupt image.

By firing his top cop and appointing a new police reform panel on Tuesday, Emanuel acknowledged that he’d fallen short, his plans upended by a police officer’s videotaped shooting of a teenage suspect and the execution-style murder of a 9-year-old boy.

Where the GOP’s going, they don’t need roads:

The highway bill passed (and it’s far from perfect, including that it hasn’t changed the gas tax to account for inflation and higher costs plus more efficient vehicles reducing the revenue available). But Malkin and other anti-tax nitwits think that the nation can function with no taxes at all. These people are delusional.

We’ve seen it with the FairTax/Flat Tax fraudsters. We see it with the tax cuts for the 1% and tax burden shifting from the rich to everyone else courtesy of GOP anti-taxers from the Norquist school of economic illiteracy.

And the result is a crumbling infrastructure that is woefully underfunded and has a backlog of work needed.

re: #58 jaunte

It does look like he has “snakes in the head.”

It reminds me of a evil mythological character named Zahhak from the famous Persian epic by Ferdowsi, the Shahnameh (“Book of Kings”).

Of course, all this goes back further than that, to the texts of the Avesta and Zoroastrian beliefs in which he was considered the son of Angra Mainyu/Ahriman, the destructive/evil spirit that was the foe of Ahura Mazda.

(This may be tl:dr for some, but if you like mythology/fantasy, you’re gonna love this story—I promise.)

In the Shahnameh Zahhak was the handsome & clever son of an Arab ruler who had a weak character (the son, not the father) and was easily influenced by evil advisers. Long story short, Ahriman chooses him to carry out his plan for world domination and begins appearing to him in different (human) forms.

In his first guise as a sycophantic courtier, Ahriman eventually convinces Zahhak to kill his own father and take the throne. Later, he presents himself as a wonderful cook, and after preparing many delicious meals Zahhak (stupidly) tells him he can have whatever he wants. Ahriman says he only wants to kiss the king’s shoulders. Lo and behold, when he does so two snakes immediately spring from Zahhak’s shoulders. Here’s a modern interpretation of what he looked like (a smaller version accompanies this Zoroastrian children’s prose version of the story).

To Zahhak’s dismay, the snakes cannot be surgically removed because every time one of their heads is cut off, it immediately regenerates. Guess who shows up to “help”? Yep, Ahriman the concern troll, this time as a doctor:

He counselled Zahhāk that the only remedy was to let the snakes remain on his shoulders, and sate their hunger by supplying them with human brains for food every day otherwise the snakes will feed on his own. […]

en.wikipedia.org

As you can probably guess, this causes Zahhak to become a brutal and murderous king in order to keep the snakes fed. He eventually meets a suitably bad end at the hands of the mythical hero king Fereydun, who ruled for 500 years and had LOTS of drama of his own.

The Iranians have some really, really good stories & epic poems. ;-)

I saw some libertarian clown claiming we ‘Statists’ think there’d be your house, and over there a Sears store, and nobody could figure out how to get from one to the other. It’s the best they can come up with to the simple question of ‘Who builds the roads?’, which is the Achilles Heel of Libertarianism.

Of course, since paved roads are a prerequisite to both contractors and retailers, without paved roads you have isolated villages that have limited traffic between them - kinda like Medieval Europe. That’s why one of the things governments do first is build roads.

I usually give up when the person uses the word statist. Libertarians in my observation have no understanding of basic economic realities. It’s part of the reason why they’ve never run anything.

Yeah I remember reading that. I think and man I forget this guy’s name. Kopp maybe? Anyhow he had a lot of help overseas too. I think he’s the one who killed Dr. Slepian in upstate New York.

Yep which is why I think you see that mindset with the young so often. They mostly disdain liberal arts degrees like mine as “useless” but my history courses can pretty much show them how far off reality they are.

Actually, the Arabic root حزب (hizb) means “party” or “faction” in the sense of a partisan group—i.e. it’s more political than military. It doesn’t have any relation to war or the military, AFAIK. Yeah, I know how militant they are, I’m just being pedantic because I think it’s important to correctly understand how they see themselves.

I still consider myself a libertarian, but I’m long removed from the libertarian movement. There’s a lot of crazy there, some of which borders on anarchism. I think where I tended to disagree with most libertarians is that I recognized that for “pure” libertarianism to work, everyone had to have access to perfect information. I could live with people making poor decisions, but fraud (whether misrepresentation or a failure to disclose material information) was the biggest problem for me. Once you recognize that the game is essentially rigged, you don’t really have a free society, you have a oligarchy.

That sort of led me to what I called Hamiltonian libertarianism. Liberty isn’t the absence of government - that’s license or anarchy, which on a day to day basis probably isn’t much different than oligarchy or tyrrany. The trick is balancing the two influences, with “liberty” as the fulcrum. But that’s not easy, and the answer will often violate some supposed ideology - so it doesn’t gain any sort of support.

It absolutely important to understand how people see themselves, and how they see others. It’s like the old line “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.” Unless your answer is “bomb the shit out of everything and everyone”, you need to understand motives.

Exactly, because how one defines oneself usually also defines how one see others. We all wear look through lenses of culture, religion/unbelief, social status, etc.

re: #192 EPR-radar

I got into a discussion with a libertarian once - one of the ones who doesn’t ‘get it’. I said that libertarianism fails at the point when any individual or entity is in a position to exploit others.

His response was, “No! You don’t understand! Nobody would be allowed to exploit others!”

I asked, “How do you stop it, under your system?”

Crickets. Noisy crickets in this case because he continued to handwave about ‘not being allowed’.

Same guy decried the ACA, saying he should only be responsible for his own family, and everyone else responsible for theirs. So I asked what happens to people who can’t afford insurance, but get sick anyway - chuck them out on the street?

He said that Private Industry would come up with ‘something’, maybe a system of loans against future earnings.

So I pointed out that Cancer largely hits people at the end of their productive, wage-earning life, and no bank is going to loan a guy in his late 60s with little in savings or assets a couple hundred thousand dollars.

More crickets.

re: #12 HappyWarrior

If Rafael Cruz is like this as a fundamentalist zealot, I can’t imagine how annoying he was as a communist.

Like most of the revolutionaries who fought alongside Castro, Rafael was probably never a communist.

In addition to Castro’s group, there were other rival anti-Batista revolutionary brigades. If they had known Castro’s hidden addenda, they would have used the information to subvert Castro.

Even the CIA provided material support at times to Castro during this last Cuban revolution.

After Castro came out of the Communist closet; some turned against Castro and were executed, some left Cuba hoping to overthrow Castro some day, and some stayed and did what was necessary to survive.

Met a lot of those guys, survivors of Brigade 2056 and other anti-Castro missions, during the 1980s in Miami.
