My God. I have a great day working with EC children at a junior high in Greensboro, I go on my break period to look at the news and I get slapped in the face with this. I used to bike ride on waterman in San Bernardino. I still have family in San Bernardino.

Too soon to talk about guns and how easy they are to get but not too easy to call teh shooter crazy without knowing anything about him.

Remember you’re the one who actually wants to criminalize criticism of guns.

She’s a monster. I wish we could leave her and her guns on a deserted island alone. She cares more about guns than she does humanity. Her rhetoric after these tragedies shows that time and time again. As I said earlier, maybe if she actually like I do by the way know the pain of losing someone to gun violence, she wouldn’t be so fucking callous.

Sigh. And tears. FUCK.

You know, if you believe in God, wouldn’t it occur to you that all these fucking shootings are a hint that maybe 300 million firearms (and growing) in one country is too fucking many? This is going to continue to happen, with growing body counts until the nation as a whole wakes the fuck up and forces our useless politicians to focus resources on stopping this. It’s not one thing, it’s everything. Gun buy backs, stricter background checks, harsher penalties for illegal weapons, melting down the ones confiscated or surrendered voluntarily, more task force and special law enforcement work to disarm criminal enterprises and trafficking and so on. It should be at LEAST as hard to get a gun as it is to get licensed and insured to drive a car FFS. Oh, and make insurance for all gun owners mandatory, just like cars and homes.

Any why in the every loving HELL do civilians have access to military level armor and weapons? Why?

Sorry guys. Yeah I am mad. I am mad because this happens time and time again and we do nothing. We scapegoat the mentally ill and then we never actually do anything about mental health. We talk about how “shocking” it is. We blame everything, everything including gay marriage, single mothers, video games, movies, etc for these shootings but the second someone tries to point out that easy access to guns does play a role, you get accused of hating America and being a Nazi. I told you, I don’t like guns. My uncle killed himself with one a couple days after Christmas fourteen years ago with one. Guns have ended more lives than they have saved. I don’t want to abolish them but I also am tired of the fetishization of them. I’m tired of seeing Republican politicians especially pose with them like they’re toys.

Donald Trump has become such a force in the Republican Party that the official overseeing next year’s Senate races has proposed a delicate strategy for GOP candidates: Tap into Trumpism without mimicking Trump.

In a seven-page confidential memo that imagines Trump as the party’s presidential nominee, the head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee urges candidates to adopt many of Trump’s tactics, issues and approaches — right down to adjusting the way they dress and how they use Twitter.

Funny because I never see gun fuckers like this bitch about those who blame the lack of forced prayer, secularism, heavy metal music, etc for shooting tragedies but suggesting that we need more sensible gun laws after yet another mass shooting is “politicized.” Fuck him and his stupid guns man. Maybe if more people cared about people rather than their killing machines, we might be better off as a country. And yeah killing machines, that’s what they are. That’s me being not PC about what guns actually are- they’re killing machines.

And this is how the terrorists win. This. Right. Here. We’re so fucking scared of everything, of each other, and so convinced that a gun is the answer to every slight, every perceived wrong, that we have lost all sense of perspective. This is what stochastic terrorism does, in the aftermath of actual terrorism (as a bonus) that this country experienced on 9/11. The fetishizing of guns and the dead is out of control.

I had to take The Kid out today to get some new shoes for work. Every store we were in had no less than 15-30 different gun/survivalist with guns type magazines in the store. We were in WalMart, Target, made a side trip to a bookstore, and the grocery store where he works. All of them had a guy on the cover in tactical gear with some kind of weapon. With stories about everything from “ooh look shiny new thing!” to building an underground bunker to trophy hunting, to how to track your prey. This shit is out of hand. Way out of hand. I can’t even find a decent gardening magazine in those places anymore, they’ve all been replaced by gun related magazines.

Are there any sane places left? Jesus.

Jeb can pray all he wants but his knees aren’t facing God, they’re facing Wayne LaPierre when he figuratively blows the NRA by refusing to consider meaningful legislation.

I think an efficient political solution to this would be to enforce the “well regulated militia” idea and emplace conditions on ownership. The Israeli system sounds like a good place to start. Permission for personal possession would be conditional based on proficiency, mental and physical health, secure storage, and availability/training for a genuine civil emergency.

The Constitution is honored while safeguards are put in place. Personally I don’t have a problem with exchanging a tiny bit of liberty for the improved safety and well-being of the entire freaking country.

We have to realize how different the country was when the amendment was written.

Oh, I’m at the point where I don’t care if guns are abolished. If we can’t have reasonable gun control to keep guns out of the hands of certain people, then no one should have them. Too bad for the hunters. I simply do not care anymore. Fuck them all.

As a note pencils also don’t FUCKING KILL PEOPLE. It’s fine to blame a person for writing a typo with a pen. But if guns are time and time again involved in a violent act, maybe we have to realize the tool is a fucking dangerous thing to have widespread. Maybe it should be something…I dunno, regulated. I mean, we blame people rather than the car for accidents more often than not, but we still fucking regulate them and make sure whoever owns them or drives them is cleared to do just that with them.

I don’t even want to ban any guns at all, I just want to make sure whoever owns them or uses them actually has both the ability and the attitude to use them responsibly and not prone to do stupid fucking things with them. But in this age, saying that is tantamount to saying you want stormtroopers imprisoning everyone who owns a fucking bullet, and trying to talk anyone down from that immediate conclusion turns you into the worst super-mega fascist in the history of ever, and voila, they win the fucking argument, you’re turned into the devil, and your entire position is completely delegitimized because FUCK YOU, WE’RE AMERICA!

For all the bullshit about “PC” in this country, no one ever calls out how much “PC” the conservative side of the aisle perpetrates. Except instead of trying not to hurt the feelings of people who might be in a disadvantaged group, they’re focused on not hurting the feelings of the advantaged or the inanimate (corporations, guns, etc.).

Same with Conservative comedy: they’re more worried about punching down than letting us punch up.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans said it was time to end “the pain and hurt” of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul as they pushed Wednesday toward Senate passage of legislation dismantling that law and blocking Planned Parenthood’s federal funds. To no one’s surprise, the White House promised that Obama would veto the bill.

Republicans are trying to end all the pain and butthurt they’ve experienced as Obama and Democrats got credit for insuring more Americans.

The report of multiple shooters is most unusual for these events, sadly granting that we have reached the point in this country where a mass shooting is not especially unusual in and of itself.
This highlights a difference between mass shootings in Europe and this country. In Europe, besides being much more “unusual,” mass shootings are usually the work of organized gangs rather than individual “lone wolves,” Anders Breivik being a notorious exception. Whether ideological terrorists or (more rarely) common criminals, it generally takes an organized, planned effort to get around local gun laws and provide the weapons in the first place. In this country, getting the weapons is the least of the shooter’s concerns and any nutcase can do it.

Impossible to say at the moment. Hopefully, the perp (or perps) will be taken alive and then we’ll have a clearer picture. Typically however, mass shooters off themselves once they’ve accomplished their “mission”, though there are exceptions to that particular rule.

re: #391 Shiplord Kirel

The report of multiple shooters is most unusual for these events, sadly granting that we have reached the point in this country where a mass shooting is not especially unusual in and of itself.
This highlights a difference between mass shootings in Europe and this country. In Europe, besides being much more “unusual,” mass shootings are usually the work of organized gangs rather than individual “lone wolves.” Whether ideological terrorists or (more rarely) common criminals, it generally takes an organized, planned effort to get around local gun laws and provide the weapons in the first place. In this country, getting the weapons is the least of the shooter’s concerns and any nutcase can do it.

With the reports that it was a county get-together in the conference room, I’m wondering if the shooters were family members with code violations or some other property (or tax) violation that the county was pursuing.

re: #210 Pawn of the Oppressor

I think an efficient political solution to this would be to enforce the “well regulated militia” idea and emplace conditions on ownership. The Israeli system sounds like a good place to start. Permission for personal possession would be conditional based on proficiency, mental and physical health, secure storage, and availability/training for a genuine civil emergency.

The Constitution is honored while safeguards are put in place. Personally I don’t have a problem with exchanging a tiny bit of liberty for the improved safety and well-being of the entire freaking country.

I have been arguing for this for some time. Bring back the fucking militia if we are going to keep that in the Bill of Rights. Everybody registered as a gun owner (register the owners instead of the guns) shows up for drill, first aid training and disaster aid training one weekend every three months. That is how we rolled in 1780.

I do, and that’s why I try not to use it on pages where I do want to support things. I don’t even mind ads in general, just specific ones that either actively harm computers or take up so much resources that it renders a page unusable, and that usually comes down to the ad servers side than anything.

Anyways, all I was doing bringing it up was making sure if anyone else was experiencing the same issue to see if it was down to an actively limiting ad set or something.

Funny you should mention Libya…Over at FR they know who the shooter is (Farouk Sayed because someone heard it on the police scanner) along with the motive (supporting Assad, presumably pulled directly out of someone’s nether regions) and that there has been a sighting of the SUV he or they escaped in at a discount mall. Imagine that, an SUV parked at a discount mall.

Indeed, while foreign terrorist attacks have been both crude and sophisticated, one of the general hallmarks is that they terrorists don’t make a run for it after the deed is done. He actually has a point. Since the SCOTUS affirmed gun ownership as a constitutional right, you would actually have to have a court hearing for a no-fly list person to be stripped of the right to have a gun (like how a judge can strip you of gun ownership when a restraining order is placed on you. You undergo due process and can argue your case and have it adjudicated).

The no-fly list has no due process procedure and no mechanism for correction, challenge or review. Flying on an airplane is not a right, of course, and the no fly list does not restrict you from using other forms of travel.

The initial bombing targeted the Stade de France, one of the biggest stadiums in Europe, during a high-profile friendly with the French President attending, and the rest of the attacks seem to follow off that mark, attacking reasonably busy thoroughfares as well as a well known theatre that was having a show with a decently sized audience. Seems like the attack was rather well organized and aiming for mass panic and body count there, with significant targets in mind, rather than just looking for ‘random soft’ targets.

The cars kill more people than guns argument is so fucking stupid. I have a headache over my eye because some idiot tweeted that shit in my timeline.

And hey, fun fact, we recognize how dangerous unfettered car use can be enough to REGULATE AND LEGISLATE THE SHIT OUT OF THOSE THINGS. So, I dunno, that argument seems rather lame coming from the assholes who try and perpetuate it.

re: #484 Targetpractice

Which, as has already been noted, points to a level of sophistication outside of the usual “mentally ill lone wolf.” Then again, James Holmes came up with a fairly sophisticated manner for his shooting, and the Columbine boys went so far as to build some explosive devices, even if they turned out to mostly be duds.

IIRC, the Columbine massacre was actually intended to be a bombing, and when they failed to go off, the shooting spree was sort of an improvised ‘Plan B’.

I guess they’ll have to sue.

There is no way to get off of the no-fly list at present, and the previous administration appears to have used it for political purposes in some cases, including against Islamic human rights activists and scholars. Also, children have ended up on it by mistake and were banned from flying.

The ability to strip people of constitutional rights without due process is real, real bad territory to get into, and we know that someone like Ted Cruz would not limit the no-fly list to actual terror suspects. Remember Monica Goodling and what happened to the DOJ under Bush the Lesser., and think about what Cruz could use that power to do to “libtards”.

Looks like the shooter(s) specifically targeted this group event held by the county. All victims were attending this event.

PD Chief: The facility has hundreds of employees, the building houses several county and state agencies.

So it could have been a targeting of any agency really.

re: #487 Kryptik

Some of the targets were symbolic, others really did seem random, like the restaurants they shot up. They were just looking for places where large numbers of people were gathered, although certainly the stadium and rock concert hall seem to have been pre-planned targets.

Cars: mandatory registration and insurance/regular competency exams to make sure you’re qualified to operate/city stickers, etc.

Guns: Here, have as many as you want.

“But it says in the Constitution that I can own guns!”

Sure. If you’re capable of handling the responsibility, go ahead.

re: #490 Dr Lizardo

If this were takfiri terrorists, they wouldn’t have run for it; that’s not their style. They would’ve shot the place up then waited til the cops roll up and go out in blaze of glory as “martyrs” in a firefight with the police or blow themselves up with IED’s.

Most likely.

I would add that there have been right-wingers who planned things out and got away: McVeigh & Eric Rudolph come immediately to mind. McVeigh was caught fairly quickly, but Rudolph wasn’t.

Then the shooter(s) would’ve had to know this group event was happening.

When did we ban the confederate flag? I see them flying freely from wingnut cars, trucks and homes on a daily basis.

Indeed; McVeigh, if I’m remembering right, only got caught because of some trivial issue with a license plate. Rudolph….damn, they didn’t get him for a looong time.

The minor targets might have been done to overwhelm and thin Paris police communications and immediate response. That is, decoys to support the main attacks.

That and it was clear from what people said in the aftermath that it was a very diverse area and fairly upscale, though not wealthy. What better way to try to drive a wedge between people and convince them that diversity is bad?

Remember the Chris Dorner manhunt episode? The police got so panicky we had several incidents of them opening fire on innocents. Folks, it might be a good day to take the car rather than the black SUV out shopping.

As well as general location near enough to their main targets. A lot of the attacks following the bombs at the Stade seemed rather clustered near Bataclan. The restaurant attacks, however ‘random’ the targets seemed, can’t be removed from the context of the other attacks, not considering how tightly planned it all was.

Fully automatic weapons; like, say, a belt fed machine gun or a select fire M-16; would be ever so useful to these mass killers. Yet they never use them, nor do they use suppressors (“silencers”).

Gee, why would that be?

If you answered “because they’re illegal,” you are wrong.

Full auto weapons (even heavy machine guns) and suppressors are quite legal for civilian ownership in this country. Thing is, under the National Firearms Act of 1934, these weapons and devices must be licensed and registered, and their owners must be vetted and approved by the ATF and local law enforcement (usually the sheriff of the county where the would-be owner lives.)

That’s all, just a routine licensing procedure that is only slightly more onerous than the process of registering a car and licensing its drivers. Unlike cars, machine guns are not even required to be insured, though it is damn good idea to have it. Yet it keeps these weapons pretty well out of the headlines and out of the “wrong hands.”

We don’t know yet, of course, but this doesn’t seem like the kind of target an Islamist terror group would choose.

It seems like a kind of target an outright Nazi would choose though.
