GOHMERT! Obama Is Importing Terrorists So He Can Grab Our Guns!

The latest wingnut conspiracy theory, brought to you by a Texas congressman

This may seem like a fringe conspiracy theory, but I’m starting to see this delusion repeated all over the conservative universe; they actually believe President Obama is deliberately importing “terrorists” (read: refugees) in order to have an excuse to take away our precious guns.

Louie Gohmert’s word salad explains the “reasoning” behind this crackpot idea. (And by “explain” I mean babbling like a freaking loon.) Behold the intellect of the Gohmert.

The places in the country where there’s so much death from guns are places that have very strong gun control, so it’s rather ironic that we have a president and Hillary Clinton, a wannabe president, who’s telling us after they have allowed so many people to come into this country as refugees; we know just this year there were at least a dozen people who came in, were brought into this country as refugees, most of them given citizenship and then they have been charged this year, some have been charged, some have been convicted already, of being terrorists. So the president has an open, porous border, people are pouring across and we know that some violent people have come in across our southern border. They come in, every week we read of new violent crimes, murders, rapes, obviously the vast majority don’t do that, but when you have a porous border, you get people who are criminals.

Then we learned again this week that it may be 179,000 or so that we know of who are illegally in the country, have been picked up by the administration but have been let loose on the interior of our country. You know the name Caitlin [sic] who was killed out in San Francisco by an illegal alien, a criminal illegal alien, and fortunately every alien that’s here illegally is not committing felonies but there are those who are.

So the president has presided over hundreds of thousands, millions really, being in the country illegally, at least 179,000 that, as I understand it, they have detained previously but have let loose on the country who have committed crimes, including murder, rape, robbery. And with all of those people that are coming into the country, some of whom are violent criminals, coming into our interior, some of them are actually picked up by Homeland Security and shipped all over our country, no matter whether they’re sick or not, I’ve seen them shipped out while they’re sick, but they’re shipped all over the country, not knowing for sure whether they’re violent criminals or not. So then we have people in the country that should never have been allowed in the country.

Refugees that have been allowed in the country, some of whom are violent terrorists, and they’ve been let in the country, and then when they do some act of violence, we’re told, and I know they haven’t said these words but basically by the position the administration is taking, they’re saying, ‘Yep, we’ve let all of these terrorists, these criminals come into the middle of our country, so all of you law-abiding citizens are going to have to give up your Second Amendment rights because I’ve let all these terrorists in; we can’t let terrorists go in and buy guns so we need to be really restrictive.’ So law-abiding citizens are going to have to give up a big portion of their Second Amendment rights because we’ve allowed all of these terrorists to be in our country without doing anything to remove them. Yes they’ve removed some, but there’s a massive number they haven’t.

As members of Congress, we are supposed to, we take an oath and we are supposed to be defensive against all enemies foreign and domestic. The president is. We owe an oath to the Constitution. Then we see reports that some folks, maybe two-thirds of people who believe in Allah, actually would like to see Sharia law take over the place of our Constitution. You cannot be an American citizen and believe Sharia law should supplant our Constitution.

Actually, Louie, you can be an American citizen and believe any crazy old thing you like. You’re an object example of that yourself.

Who the hell needs to import terrorists and gunmen when we have more people killed every day in garden variety firearms homicides than San Bernardino. Every single day.

Every hour nearly 4 people are killed. Nearly 3 are suicides. 1 homicide every hour. 24 a day. Every day.

And we’ve got enough mass shootings without needing to import anyone either. Or we can import them from North Carolina, such as Dear. The right wing goes to extreme lengths to avoid calling the Planned Parenthood attack domestic terrorism, because doing so would be an admission against interest - it would be a tacit recognition that the problem of mass shootings is far more than just Islamic terrorism, or a mental health problem.

Oh, and the GOP, which continues to harp on a lack of strategy or method for the President to go after Daesh still can’t be bothered to vote on an AUMF, which the President requested more than 300 days ago.

As if we’ve only been talking about gun control because of foreign born terrorists? We’ve been losing 30,000 Americans a year to gun violence, which is ten 9/11’s every year. Obama doesn’t need to “import” shooters. They’re already here in droves.

“It’s ridiculous,” Fox co-host Stacey Dash said. “His speech was an epic fail. It was like when you have to go to dinner with your parents, but you have a party to go to afterwards, that’s what it felt like.”

“I did not feel any better. I didn’t feel any passion from him,” Dash went on. “I felt like he could give a shit - excuse me, like he could care less. He could care less.”

I read a story today that a California GOP Congressman said ten years ago, about 90% of constituent calls, letters and emails to him were reality based, and 10% was conspiracy theories. Now that ratio is reversed. The result is we have people like Gohmert running Congress.

Seriously, Gohmert sounds like he’s trying to give a book report on a book he never read, and he can’t even remember if his Stormfront Cliffs Notes were on Mexicans or Muslims. Because a lot of this shit reads like anti-Mexican American hysteria.

In other news, the opposition parties won big in Venezuela assembly electiond last night. That gives me hope that we can someday get these loons back in their minority status where they belong.

Next thing GOHMERT will be claiming that all the TERROR BABIES he warned us about have all grown up.

The mothers and their kids then return home where, the congressman says, the children “could be raised and coddled as future terrorists”— and later, “twenty, thirty years down the road, they can be sent in to help destroy our way of life.”

The places in the country where there’s so much death from guns are places that have very strong gun control

Wasn’t there a “terrorist” attack in Palestine, Texas earlier this year? Where two guys shot up a “draw Mohammed” contest? And wasn’t the biker shoot out also in Texas?

I didn’t realize Texas had very strong gun control laws.

I got into a bit of a debate this weekend with a couple of friends I’ve literally known my entire life. They were taking the “we can’t have refugees because the shooter in San Bernardino was from Saudi/Pakistan” position. I pointed out that there’s 12 million permanent legal aliens in the US, and 140,000 from Pakistan, and that doesn’t include people who have been naturalized - and that 1 out of 140,000 (let alone 1 out of 12 million) was actually an amazingly good result. That you’re still more at risk of being hit by a bus than being the victim of a mass shooting (terrorist or otherwise). Of course, since one is the brother of one of the first cops on the scene in San Bernardino it was “we have to take care of the terrorist situation” and “you’re view will be different if your family was in danger” or “why even take that chance?” This really is starting to feel like a tipping point in history, and I’m really not sure how we come out of it.

A clarification: FBI said 19 “pipes” were found that could be used to make bombs.

This is wrong?

When they searched Farook and Malik’s home, police recovered a dozen pipe bombs, 2,000 9-millimeter handgun rounds, 2,500 .223-caliber assault rifle rounds and “hundreds of tools” that could have been used to make additional explosive devices, Burguan said.

One reason to take the chance is that if we had always barred Muslim Syrian immigrants, the largest corporation in the world wouldn’t exist. Steve Jobs’ (Syrian father) benefit to the US outweighs all of the damage inflicted by every terrorist attack in the US combined all by himself. Then add to that the benefit we have received from all of the millions of other Muslim immigrants and their descendants who aren’t terrorists, and its a no-brainer.

We had one of those in Columbus overnight.

NBC4i - Shot fired as customer tries to stop shoplifter

COLUMBUS (WCMH) - A customer at a Columbus gas station took matters into his own hands Monday morning while trying to stop a suspected shoplifter.

It happened at about 12:30 a.m. Monday at the Speedway near the corner of Olentangy River Road and West 5th Avenue.

According to police, a customer was inside the store when he witnessed a man leave the store with a case of beer that was not paid for. He followed the man outside and then around the store.

The customer fired at the suspect once with a concealed carry weapon. He told NBC4 that the suspect pulled a gun on him first.

The suspect got into a car and drove away. The customer said he followed on foot trying to get a plate number, then turned back and returned to the store.

No injuries were reported.

Police took the customer’s gun while they investigate. No charges have been filed.

Video at link with interview with a guy that should know better. Columbus Police told him it was dumb and Speedway people told him their policy is to let the shop lifter go. All for two cases of beer. I also have a feeling the guy he was chasing didn’t have a gun.

I’d love to see some stats on how many of these kinds of “rushes” are not by first-time gun owners, but by repeat buyers looking to stock up on guns and ammo.

Considering that only 1/3 of Americans have firearms, and many of those who own have multiple firearms, I’ve got to wonder how much of this is repeat customers.

Since there’s literally nothing that cannot be explained away with Magic, Creationism treated as a scientific hypothesis makes no useful, testable predictions. If you don’t believe me, talk to any Creationist about the evidence against a young Universe.

For example:

IF the Universe is only 6000 years old, THEN we should not see any stars more distant than 6000 light years, and new ones stars should appear as their light finally reaches us. That’s not what we see. We see objects as distant as billions of light years, which suggests the Universe is billions of years old. We see evidence of the birth and death of stars, which would have happened long before 6000 years ago.

The usual answer is that God created the Universe 6000 years ago, as a mature thing, with all the light waves of the last 15 billion years already in place, and the birth and death of stars that never existed written into them.

One of the things I said when talking to them last night was that accepting refugees (and immigrants in general) is part of who we are, and if we’re so willing to change who we are, then what exactly are we fighting for? Adventist woman injured in California shooting speaks of Jesus’ return

A Seventh-day Adventist believer who miraculously escaped a mass shooting in southern California with non life-threatening head, arm, and leg injuries says she hopes the tragedy will somehow alert people that Jesus is coming soon.

Amanda Gaspard was overseeing a conference and holiday luncheon organized by the San Bernardino County Health Department at a social services center in San Bernardino, California, when two assailants went on a shooting rampage Wednesday, killing at least 14 people and injuring 21.

“She was in charge of the meeting that day. In God’s mercy, she had just dismissed everyone for a short break or there would have been more people in the room,” her mother, Diane Gaspard, told the Adventist Review on Thursday.

Dave, Yellow Jackets are not of the bee world. They are of the wasp world.

So White Anglo Saxon Protestant RWNJs is the call!

Hey, it really works out better. Wasps have nasty tempers, aren’t good for anything (like honey or pollination though they do get rid of caterpillars), spoil picnics and just become general pains in the asses.

Sometimes very specific pains in the ass.

That is all.

Sorry to see T-Rump desecrating the Yorktown with his vile presence. It is one of the best run and best preserved museum ships in the country. Just hose down the deck and air out the nearby heads though and everything will be shipshape again.

And douchebag Alex Jones always assumes it’s a liberal false flag…cui bono and all that.

I bet Fox Nation is brimming over with outrage that Fox suspended them.

It is amusing (and sick) that these Fox airheads can spew hatred of modern people all day long, but if they say something that simple people think is a “bad word” they’re in trouble.

I know and stand corrected. Making generalities…. One flew up under my sunglasses while fishing the other day. Hurt for 2 days. I carry a fly swatter on the boat now.

re: #145 Blind Frog Belly White

Oh, but that’s all part of His Plan!

Honestly, I could never understand how people found this comforting. Apologies to any believing Lizards, but I just can’t.

When you hear people talk about “God’s Plan”, try to keep in mind that they have no idea what God’s Plan is. I would suggest that the burden is on believers, who should understand that God’s Plan cannot be known. Many people think God is some sort of magician. Everybody’s entitled to their belief. It doesn’t matter whether people try to reconcile the all-good vs all-powerful nature of God, because we just don’t know enough. We are left only with the capacity to believe what we want to believe and to try to understand what we can. Whether it’s children getting cancer, small animals get torn to pieces by bigger ones, senseless crimes against people, it’s tough to find any sort of comfort. Perhaps the free will we have to make our choices is also shared universally, in the sense that “Mother Nature” had to make hard choices that lead to the development of species but at the expense of great suffering.
I guess the most important thing to consider about believers is that their beliefs are some way to fill in the things we can’t know or understand. Sadly, many believers don’t get beyond the magician stage of development and assume that scriptures are literal, or that you are damned to heck if you disagree. Belief requires a conservative nature in the sense that the individual has to understand the limits of her/his beliefs, that we must accept that there are limits to knowledge, and that there is not a right or wrong way for others to believe.

I don’t intend to start any kinds of atheists vs believer debate. I just wanted to put my two cents in to suggest why some people give believers a bad name when they shrug their shoulders and say “It’s just God’s Plan”.

I’m calling bullsh*t because Fox News has a documented habit of saying false sh*t about this president and of launching ad hominem attacks against him. I’ve been expecting them to call him a N***** on air for some time now. The only thing that is holding them back is the fear that if they do, it will confirm what we Black Americans already know—-that it is how they refer to him when they’re not in front of cameras, and that the slur is sanctioned by the GOP/TP.
