Donald Trump Calls for “Total and Complete Shutdown of Muslims Entering the United States”

Yes, he’s going there
Politics • Views: 52,954

This stunningly bigoted press release just came from the Donald Trump campaign. Trump is leading the Republican Party into a very dark future.

(New York, NY) December 7th, 2015, — Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on. According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population. Most recently, a poll from the Center for Security Policy released data showing “25% of those polled agreed that violence against Americans here in the United States is justified as a part of the global jihad” and 51% of those polled, “agreed that Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to Shariah.” Shariah authorizes such atrocities as murder against non-believers who won’t convert, beheadings and more unthinkable acts that pose great harm to Americans, especially women.

Mr. Trump stated, “Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life. If I win the election for President, we are going to Make America Great Again.” – Donald J. Trump

This looks like a pretty easy way for Trump to win the GOP nomination. I’ll be surprised if anything can stop that now.

Finally someone wanting to do something about religious fanaticism. All the dangerous so called Christians will finally have someone to be worried about.

Wait, that’s not what he’s talking about?

“When I hear folks say, ‘Well, maybe we should just admit the Christians and not the Muslims,’ when I hear political leaders suggesting there should be a religious test for which person who’s fleeing from a war torn country — that’s shameful,” Obama said. “That’s not American. That’s not who we are. We don’t have religious tests to our compassion.”

I’ve been playing around with the new 538 model where you can slide turnout and vote preferences to see the result in the presidential election. Assuming turnout and margins stayed the same for African Americans, Latinos, and Asian voters, the GOP would have to pick up 5-7% among either college educated white voters or non-college educated white voters (again assuming turn out remained the same) - they’re already at 56% of college educated whites and 62% of non-college educated whites. That seems like a very difficult way to go about winning a national election.

To put this in perspective, I’ve played with the Swing-O-Matic as well. If you keep black turnout where it was in 2012, halve the GOP support from Hispanics while increasing their turnout a few points, and reduce their Asian/ other support by a quarter (I think these are all reasonable guesses for 2016), then the Republicans can increase their white share of the vote by 5 percentage points and still lose.

Whites voted 59% GOP, 39% Dem, 2% other at the last election, so this new formula would give a white vote of 64% GOP, 34% Dem, 2% other.

You know who won 34% of the white vote? Walter Mondale in 1984.

Agreed. I have said for some time that one of the essential conditions for the transformation of the GOP from a proto-fascist party to a fully fascist party is acceptance of scapegoating as a solution for political issues.

Right now we’re seeing if scapegoating of Muslims will be accepted in this way by the GOP.

Trump has described the evolution of his position on abortion; although he formerly took several pro-choice positions, he now describes himself as pro-life[15] and would ban late-term abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or health.[15] He is in favor of cutting federal funding for Planned Parenthood.[157]

Islamophobia is ubiquitous in the GOP and beyond among the US. Even the most liberal (relatively) Republicans I know are mostly OK with shit like this and don’t see how this is at all fascist or Hitlerian, because “All Muslims are evil terrorists who hate freedom and spend every day planning on killing us all. FUCK THOSE GUYS! PUT EM ON AN ISLAND!”

I see this shit every day on social media. Right leaning people who still pull the “I’m a social liberal but fiscal conservative” crap like even I used to, and don’t hate gays to the point of being almost LGBT activists, will gobble up Islam-hate hook line and sinker.

To be honest, I think it’s absolutely terrible political strategy, amusingly copied from decades of feckless Democrats. If somebody wants to vote for a guy espousing Trumpian ideas, they have no reason to vote for half-Trump. They’ll just go fucking vote for Trump.

The fact that the combined non-Trump primary vote share is something like 75% sure ought to indicate to an intelligent campaigner that it’s at least worth a shot to call him Hitler and fucking bury the dude. Meekly MBFing in the wake of every Trump comment is pointless and leads to ¿Jeb?.

But what did you expect me to do?

I live 40 miles from San B and I’ve turned a corner. I’ve started to believe in Trump. I never, ever would have said that before.

But I’ll admit the comment about the 3,409 active duty Muslims stumps me.

Did Dylan Roof make you think everybody who waves a confederate flag is just like that? What about the shootings at Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook, both of which had higher death tolls than SB and neither of which had anything to do with Muslims — did either of those inspire you to broad-brush views of everyone who looks vaguely similar, or everyone whose family belongs to the same Christian church the shooters did?
