Erick Erickson’s Mom Says She’s Not as Racist as Erick Says She Is

The family that wingnuts together
Wingnuts • Views: 58,590

So a few days ago, RedState founder and raving right wing loon Erick Erickson tweeted a blatantly racist message about his upbringing, claiming his parents never let him eat “Asian food” on December 7th because they were “children of WWII.”

Gawker’s J.K. Trotter contacted Erickson’s mother to see if she’d verify her son’s claim that she was a racist, and guess what? Erick Erickson’s Mom Denies Son’s Story About Boycotting Asian Food Because of Pearl Harbor.

Erickson’s tweet appeared to explain, in its nostalgia for an era when adults could express racial hatred without social reprobation, how the author came to embrace his own brand of fear-mongering about black people, Muslims, and Arabs. But it turns out that there’s some disagreement within the Erickson household about Erickson, Jr.’s tale of boycotting Asian cuisine.

Erickson’s sister, a woman named Gretchen Erickson Barlow, immediately hung up when we called and asked if Erick Erickson was her brother, so we weren’t able to verify her brother’s account with her. But at least one of their parents was eager to debunk the story.

“I’ve never heard that before,” Erickson’s mother, Kathleen Erickson, told Gawker when we asked about Erickson’s statement in a telephone conversation this morning. After we read aloud her son’s tweet to her, she insisted, “Whatever you heard, I think that is completely your idea, I have never heard of that before. Somebody is making that up about my son.”

Since Erickson’s mother wasn’t even born when Pearl Harbor was attacked, Trotter also asked about Erick’s claim that his parents were “children of WWII,” and the following exchange occurred:

Ms. Erickson: What do you think of Jesus Christ?

Gawker: What do I think of Jesus Christ? He is obviously an important figure in Christian theology.

Erickson: Jesus Christ is the Lord and Savior, Mr. Trotter. He is the King of Kings. And he is coming again. So I hope and pray that you are Christian, Mr. Trotter. I will add you to my prayer list. [Hangs up.]

Ohhhkay then.

But perhaps the best part of this ridiculous story is that Erickson immediately responded by tweeting this:

So to recap, Erick Erickson got busted making up a racist lie to appeal to his knuckle-dragging followers, then tried to cover it up by saying his own mother is losing her memory.

But hey, it’s all good because Jesus!

Right wingers are the weirdest people on the planet.

Oh, and he’s claiming that mom doesn’t know what she’s talking about, even though Erickson said it was an annual thing at his family. “never letting us have Asian food on December 7th.”

That means every December 7. Not just some, or a one-time event. Every year.

But hey, if that’s how he wants to treat his mom by throwing her under the bus to keep his nonsensical raving intact, so be it. We know how Erickson rolls (right over his mom).

BTW - is anyone else hearing about RWNJs forming a “Trump Party” to run if/when The Donald breaks from the GOP? I’m starting to see stuff in my Facebook feed - reactions from conservatives disappointed that the GOP “has no backbone” and is denouncing Trump.

They allegedly want to run in the Senate and House races in reliably Red States so that they can replace the hated “cuckservatives” in Congress, and “take the country back.”

This may be just a few loons right now - or the fevered imaginations of deeply angry/racist Trump supporters - but if this kind of thing gains momentum, and Trump does go 3rd party, wouldn’t this basically split the GOP vote not only for the presidency, but also for the Senate and House?

Maybe not. Gawker may well decide that a California Court is more likely to rule in their favor in an anti-SLAPP hearing.

Remember, they removed the Missouri state court filing to federal district court precisely as a way to argue California’s rules as the appropriate governing choice of law. All Chuck has done now is place the noose that Gawker has been arguing for in the Missouri case firmly around his own neck.

The CA lawyer defending him against the NAF subpoena clearly passed on the chance to represent him in this case.

Chuck filed this because he’s panicked about having the case in MO thrown out after the statue of limitations has expired, at which point filing his case in CA would become impossible.

I’m particularly unimpressed with Abigail Fisher’s case against UT. You know, the one that caused Scalia to talk about how African-Americans should go to less difficult schools from the Supreme Court bench today. (The racism, it stuns me.) Granted, I graduated from UT a couple of decades before the Top-10 plan went into place, but when I graduated from high school, I was NOT a candidate for either flagship school (UT or A&M). Heck, I wasn’t a candidate for a second tier school either I just wasn’t. I wouldn’t have been accepted if I had applied, because my grades were in the toilet.

But I did three semesters at a junior college (paying more in tuition than I ever paid at UT), got on the honor roll all three semesters, and then was able to transfer in based on much better grades than I’d gotten in high school. My bachelor’s degree is from UT. I don’t see that Abigail Fisher did anything of the sort to get herself into UT. Instead, she seems to have whined about being denied her due white privilege to attend UT. I’m so unimpressed.

This may offend some people, but I’m acutely aware that the country has NOT made up for the fact that we kept people of color down by law and custom until the 1960s, and the rest of the time has been rather a fight. People like Abigail Fisher annoy me because of their privilege.

Perpetuating fraud before the court:

For those not keeping score, here’s Paragraph 2:

Plaintiff Charles C. Johnson has never before initiated a lawsuit for defamation.

Fact. He initiated defamation lawsuit in Missouri local court before it was kicked over to federal court in Missouri. Why Missouri? He found an idiot lawyer who’d take his case (and then promptly botched it in every way imaginable).

If he thinks that the CA court will not be aware of this, he’s in for a very rude awakening. And Gawker is going to be more than willing to make this fact known.

It almost appears as though Chucky thought he could simply cut/paste his prior filing into CA. That includes the BS multi-fonts and random quotes, content, etc.

First… Chuck is not a lawyer, thus, he can’t represent GotNews. He needs to lawyer up quickly otherwise the complaint as per GotNews will get dismissed.

Second… If one of the other California lawyers wants to correct me on this go ahead, but I think Chuck wouldn’t necessarily be barred by the statute of limitations in California if/when the Missouri action was dismissed because he could argue that the Missouri action tolled the statute of limitations. Partly because while there’s no personal jurisdiction in Missouri, there could be in either California or New York federal court.

Third… This looks very much like forum shopping. Judges are not fond of that. How not fond, you ask? It’s something you learn, literally (and I mean literally literally not literally figuratively), in the first week of law school.

He filed it in his own name and in the name of GotNews though. So even if GN LLC is dismissed he’ll still be on the hook personally, with no LLC protections, or am I missing something?

I didn’t have much time to read LGF for a few days, coming home all exhausted and stuff, but I caught up today and boy, was there a lot of derp.

The main point about the other candidates tepidly renouncing Trump (tepidly, because they don’t have the guts to call it what it is - fascism) and saying he’s not fit for presidency is that they signed that pledge to support him once he wins. With that in mind their denunciations ring hollow.

re: #92 goddamnedfrank

Right, he’d still be on the hook for anti-SLAPP sanctions. He could also get in trouble for effectively practicing law with out a license if he tries to maintain a claim on behalf of the LLC - California law specifically requires corporations, LLC’s, and partnerships to be represented by counsel because of their status as “legal persons”. And while a natural person can file in pro per, they can’t represent a corporation without being a licensed attorney. Depending on how much he pisses off the court, it likely won’t get referred to the State Bar on the practicing without a license bit - but this is Chuck.

Where he’s more likely to get in trouble is filing a claim while the exact same claim is being litigated in another jurisdiction. And on demurrer, the fact that he has filed an identical complaint in another jurisdiction is judicially noticeable.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli politicians of all persuasions called on Wednesday for a planned visit by U.S. Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump to be blocked over his call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States, which has raised an international outcry.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement later saying he rejected the remarks but added that the visit, set two weeks ago, would go ahead as planned and did not indicate support for Trump.
[…]
It added that the Israeli leader had determined a uniform policy towards meeting all U.S. presidential candidates from both parties who visit Israel.

“This policy does not reflect support for the candidates or for their platforms, rather, it expresses the importance that the prime minister ascribes to the strong alliance between Israel and the United States,” the statement added.

I completely agree on the Abigail Fisher case. And that Scalia’s remark was inexcusable.

There is a teeny, tiny grain of truth in it, however. Studies have shown that average students do better at second tier schools where they are near the top of their class than they do at top tier schools where they are near the bottom of their class. Minority students are less likely to go to good schools and therefore are less likely to be top performers at a top tier school. On the other hand, there are some kids who come from mediocre high schools and go on to set the world on fire when they have access to a top college.

Where Scalia totally misses the point is that the answer isn’t to say “Well, we’ll just keep those top schools almost all white.” It’s to improve educational opportunities for minorities and the poor.

Charlie Spies, the Republican campaign-finance whiz who counsels PACs supporting Jeb Bush, is alleging that Trump illegally mixed business and politics when his corporate attorney warned the billionaire’s opponents that attack ads could trigger defamation lawsuits. The claim comes in a complaint filed Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission that was obtained exclusively by POLITICO.

Alan Garten, general counsel of the Trump Organization, FedEx’ed bombastic cease-and-desist letters on company letterhead to the Club for Growth, the Right to Rise leadership PAC, and Mike Fernandez, one of Bush’s biggest donors. Spies is alleging that Trump crossed a line by using corporate resources to do his campaign’s “dirty work.”

snip

“In light of your confusion over the difference between Leadership PACs and Super PACs, we have to assume you may also be unaware of the FEC’s prohibition on a federal candidate’s use of corporate resources for campaign purposes,” Spies wrote. “Just as your client is attempting to quickly learn the basics of foreign policy, we wish you personally the best in your attempts to learn election law.”

Spies called on the FEC to investigate immediately and to make a referral to the Justice Department.

Why do I have a feeling if he’d done any of those things, they’d be criticizing him for doing them? Or screaming that he should be impeached for leading us into a war that the American people didn’t support and on false pretenses, or something?

WITH an exception for humanitarian reasons, there were no refugees and oh BTW banning by nation is one thing, banning by religion is quite another. And there was no credible terrorist threat at all. It was an F.U. aimed at the new regime in Iran, not a anti terror attack paranoid fantasy.

Here’s the whole block quote, but I don’t think it helps:

“There are those who contend that it does not benefit African-Americans to get them into the University of Texas where they do not do well, as opposed to having them go to a less advanced school, a less a slower track school where they do well. One of, one of the briefs pointed out that most of the black scientists in this country don’t come from schools like the University of Texas… They come from lesser schools where they do not feel that they’re pushed ahead in classes that are too fast for them…I’m just not impressed by the fact that the University of Texas may have too fewer. Maybe it ought to have too fewer. And maybe some, you know, when you take more, the number of blacks, really competent blacks admitted to lesser schools, turns out to be less. Conservatism in the US has returned to its historical norm of being essentially stupid. The WFB/National Review era is an anomaly caused by WFB having power within the conservative movement combined with wanting the movement to be seen as intellectual.

So theses days all the RWNJ pundits etc. converge on the stupidest available ‘answers’ to any public policy question. Cutting taxes on the rich, fear mongering and scapegoating are the real three pillars of the conservative stool.

Why is Erick Erickson obsessing that it’s a “27 year old event”?
Didn’t he originally say, “When I was growing up, we didn’t eat Asian food on 12/7”? or something to that effect?
That makes it sound like it was some manner of annual ritual on 12/7, to make a stink about anything for dinner except Asian, cuz stinky Pearl Harbor bombers!
Now he seems to be indicating that it was this one time in ~1988 when he was 13 (I’m making the assumption that he’s 40) that his parents decided that now was the time to develop a grudge against all Asians for WWII. That’s really weird.

Our code calls for 3/4 hour, IIRC. I have to put a new drywall hatch in the attic access—dropped it getting down ornaments.

Small-arms is scary, but re-loaders are worse. They store powder in bulk. A volunteer fireman buddy had his helmet blown back into the street when he did an entry for a moron who was storing 10 lbs. Lost 6 months work.

I know this in theory, but seeing it in reality is a different thing, you know?

Not quite sure what our code calls for, but there’s a spot or two where it is either just short or just past the interior of the house that should get extended to be clear, I think, and then a few jagged spots where it’s gotten worn over the years. You might know - is that something a standard drywall company can handle? I’ve been at a loss on who to talk to about this.

Everything about their ideology is morally bankrupt and all for show, this isn’t surprising, sadly. These people live in such make believe realities that everything they say has to serve that purpose of upholding and justifying their partisan beliefs, so even their parents’ actions are fair game in this reality distortion field. I’d call them mentally ill and then classify tens of millions as also worthy of being put into institutions, but FEMA is already on the case ready to start their extraction plans before Obama leaves office.

He is another one of those fair-weather Christians. He thinks all you need to be “saved” in the coming judgement day is to call yourself Christian. You do not have to follow the words of Jesus, you just wear a cross and go to Church and you can spew hate and judgement at everyone. The American Taliban is a dangerous organization.
