We need to step up subsidies big time for alternative energy/conservation.
Environmental issues aren’t something I’m very knowledgeable about but my brother who’s really into these issues was telling me how pathetic it is that the Germans who don’t get nearly as much sunshine as we do are beating us bad at the solar energy game. I’m with Amory. Let’s step up the subsidies for alterantive energy and conservation.

National security!
I guess the UN helicopters that will be patrolling our homeland will be solar powered
Honestly I look at investing in atlerantive fuels and energy sources like this. It’s good for the planet, it will create new jobs, and leave a better future for our children. My great grandfathers were coal miners. And coal did have a use but it’s time for new energy in a new century.
Key points of the landmark Paris climate agreement
- The long-term objective of the agreement is to make sure global warming stays “well below” 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) and to “pursue efforts” to limit the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit).
- In order to reach the long-term goal, countries agreed to set national targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions every five years. The initial targets won’t be enough to put the world on a path to meet the long-term temperature goal. So the agreement asks governments to review their targets in the next four years and see if they can “update” them.
- There is no penalty for countries that miss their emissions targets. But the agreement has transparency rules to help encourage countries to actually do what they say they will do.
- The agreement says wealthy countries should continue to offer financial support to help poor countries reduce their emissions and adapt to climate change. It also encourages other countries to pitch in on a voluntary basis.
- In a victory for small island nations threatened by rising seas, the agreement includes a section recognizing “loss and damage” associated with climate-related disasters.

I’ve seen estimates for solar paneling a house of my size ~1200 sf of over 30k. Geothermal pricing is in the same ball park, which just baffles me. All they’re doing is drilling a fucking hole in the ground and looping a plastic hose to a heat exchanger.

Germany’s southern solar power facilities are essentially along the same latitudinal lines as northern Maine and the Seattle-Vancouver corridor
Can I just say again how thankful I am our country chose Obama over McCain and Romney again?

So lots of rain and cloudy days?
The president can’t extend subsidies unilaterally, and its a treaty which means it needs 2/3rds of the Senate to ratify, and that it won’t get. The president can talk about this, but he is limited in what he can do without the approval of Congress.
Frankly, I think Mitch McConnell should simply declare that the Senate will not be taking up this treaty in 2016, but rather will wait for the next president in the hopes that he or she will be more trustworthy than Barack Obama.

lolwut?
What (R) candidate is trustworthy/nonpartisan on science?
Yeah. Republicans and trustworthy do not belong together.
But you’re right. McConnell would be so happy to work with Sanders or Clinton on this. And if you think any of the Republican candidates all of whom got a big fat F on this issue from climate change scientists actually will do anything about this issue, you’re out of your mind.

or better yet, where do you get the idea that a Republican senate led by McConnell would work with any Democratic president on this issue. Face it, DF, they’d refuse to work with Clinton this issue because she’s a Clinton, Sanders because he’s a boogeyhoogey socialist zoinks Raggy, or in the unlikelihood Marty wins, they’d find some fault with him. Or you mean your fellow Republicans whom as I got as all are big fucking failures on this issue and have no desire to address it seriously. And yet the self described liberal and moderate Republicans continue to hitch their boat to a party that wants to do nothing about the issue because they hate environmentalists and Al Gore more than they care about the planet. It reminds me of why I found Jon Huntsman detestable a few years ago. Yes, he acknowledged Climate Change was real but then he was advocating getting rid of the EPA.

I suspect the “geothermal” you are talking about is really just about conventional heat pump technology taking advantage of the fact that just a few feet down, the temperature is about 50 to 55 F year-round —at least in temperate climates. This permits far greater efficiency and reliability than when using outdoor air as the “cold” side for a heat pump.

His history of making agreements on funding levels and then coming back asking for more money for departments other than Defense, Justice, and Homeland Security (sometimes State, but mostly not). All other departments should get their funds during normal appropriations only and the president should abide by agreement made once they are reached.

You know, this could be a good time for Mitch McConnell to show he’s a little more than the bitter prick who promised to make Obama a one term president but I guess that’s too much to ask of Mitch and the Republicans in the Senate. re: #62 Dark_Falcon
CNN is reporting it must be ratified by individual nations, which in the Us means it needs a 2/3rds vote by the US Senate.
Not exactly, that liar Obama might not be as dumb as you think:
//
Some elements of the accord are voluntary, while others are legally binding. That hybrid structure was specifically intended to ensure the support of the United States: An accord with binding targets would be legally interpreted as a new treaty and would have to go before the Senate for ratification. Such a plan would be dead on arrival in the Republican-controlled Senate, where many question the established science of climate change and hope to thwart Mr. Obama’s climate change agenda.
As a result, all language on the reduction of carbon emissions is essentially voluntary. The deal assigns no concrete reduction targets to any country. Instead, each government has crafted a plan to lower emissions at home based on the country’s domestic politics and economy.
It’s not his first day.
re: #62 Dark_Falcon
CNN is reporting it must be ratified by individual nations, which in the Us means it needs a 2/3rds vote by the US Senate.
From the link
And the agreement won’t enter into force until 55 countries have ratified it. Those nations must account for 55% of total global greenhouse gas emissions.
Might not need USA to ratify.

No, instead you mentioned a branch of the federal government that has admitted, time and again, that it’s impossible to audit its budget. That is cannot account for every single dollar budgeted to it because of the arcane manner in which it runs things. Not only that, it is actually exempt from the same annual audits that those branches you feel should be bound to normal appropriations bills are required to undergo.

Indeed Obama is more of a conservative than any of the so called conservatives in power today ever will be. These guys aren’t conservatives. They’re reactionaries trying to send us back to a time that never was because they can’t get over the fact that Obama is the first Democrat since FDR to win over 50% of the vote twice in a presidential election. Twice the American people have affirmed that he was their choice overwhelmingly and the Republicans can’t take that. They hated FDR too of course.

Can’t wait for that GOP Liar on Liar cage match. Trump’s ego cannot abide. This has EPIC! potential.
That would never work, as Donald Trump’s ego will not fit in a WWE-sized cage.

Because O’M is a champion in half-true/half-false statements, it seems. Quite a wishy-washy guy.

His hair sure won’t.
re: #105 Blind Frog Belly White
His first post on this thread relieves you of any need to take him seriously ever again. Pure GOP horseshit.
Wait.. people took Mr. “BBL” and ‘dodges questions like Neo dodges bullets in the Matrix’ seriously?
DF - again, you’re a nice guy - you’ve just chosen to anchor yourself to the wrong boat in this Regatta. Your political party is experiencing its death throes right now.. you’ll see a few twitches here or there.. and some valiant efforts to save it - but..when you’re saddled with guys like Trump and Cruz steering the ship, you’re already dead in the water.

re: #123 Amory Blaine
Politifact needs a “Low Bar” handicap on some of their ratings.
“If a protester starts demonstrating in the area around you, please do not touch or harm the protester. This is a peaceful rally. In order to notify the law enforcement officers of the location of the protester, please hold a rally sign over your head and start chanting: Trump! Trump! Trump! Ask the people around you to do likewise until the officer removes the protester. Thank you for helping us make America great again,” the campaign stated at the event on Thursday and again on Saturday.
The first round of protests was silent however, as demonstrators wore Star of David patches and turned their backs to the candidate while he spoke about his discriminatory plan to ban Muslims.
Despite being silent and non-disruptive, the demonstrators were forcefully removed from the crowd by police after five minutes.

Well, a site like that has to serve up some softballs to keep from getting blacklisted. Otherwise campaigns would stop allowing reporters from Politifact-affiliated stations and publications access to candidates.

Even the Red Wings were made in China. I went to Rogan’s shoes.
And Red Wings are so much crap these last few years.
MrBWS used to love them but his last few pairs fell apart in just a couple of months.
He won’t waste his money on them anymore.

That’s true, but we were talking about federal budgeting.
No. YOU are talking about your favorite convenient cherry-picked boogie man of the hour.

Ted Cruz is no different from Trump, but you betcha DF will vote for him.
“What the hell is Monmouth?” Trump riffed, clearly aware of Monday’s survey from the university showing Cruz leading him by five points in Iowa. “I only like polls that treat me well.”

Not all Red Wing boots are made in China. I wear the same pair every day for two years, and they still have plenty of life left in them so I donate my work boots. Red Wings are the only work boots worth the money.

The thing about Cruz is he’s even less electable than Trump. https://t.co/fM1w3AtCXg

After twenty years in local politics in Philly I can say one thing for certain; you can never predict who will win any election until all the votes are counted.
re: #145 Eric The Fruit Bat
Super Tuesday will be the tell.
Yep. After March 1 we’ll see if the Republicans are well and truly fucked as a national party or not.
re: #145 Eric The Fruit Bat
That may give some indication but then again it may not.

They are anyway. Do you really think any of those dolts that are still inhabiting the clown car are worth electing, if even electable at all?

Trump’s favorite SC Justice: Clarence Thomas.
When Trump is Pres he’ll fire all of the Supremes other than Thomas and replace them with reliable members of his family.

We’ve reached the point that I cannot tell what’s real and what’s not. I *am* in The Matrix.
Since someone brought up integrity, let’s talk about Sen. Mitch McConnell shall we?
Like how he’s been the primary block for getting the Zadroga Bill renewed and passed. Like he had to be shamed into doing anything at all by Jon Stewart being relentless about this cause. And that’s just this thing, there’s a lot more of a slime trail following this jackass from Kentucky around.
What’s fucked up is that politics has become a money soaked GAME. People die because of this shit. And way too many people don’t care because they just want to stick it to liberals or anything they are told is liberal by obscenely wealthy assholes on TV and radio or the internet. It’s too fucking bad too, because if people were fucking smarter we could defeat this shit by working together. Instead we’re fighting over Bill Clinton (!) being a rapist and Hillary’s emails and abortion and unions and whether or not a godamned minimum wage is needed FFS. We’re fighting about public schools sucking while fucking charter school corporations are taking our tax money and not doing any damned better with it (and heaven help you if your kid is in some way considered “special needs”, good luck with that shit, especially in the charter system) and charging you for the privlege of sending your kids there. Or, we’re fighting over whether clean air, soil and water, THE FUCKING THINGS WE NEED TO LIVE are actually necessary. And it won’t change until the right wing climbs off their fucking holier than thou we’re always right and you suck pedestal and joins the rest of us in reality. Yeah, I have high hopes for that shit. We were supposed to be Americans first and everything else came after, not anymore, and you know what? Liberals didn’t start that shit.
Gah. I’ve lived in the South too long, I’m surrounded by this nonsense and there’s no place to get away from it.

LOL no. All of them are a disaster.
What I’m talking about is the Trump effect. If he does well on Super Tuesday I’m expecting the national party to start moving forward with a plan for a brokered convention. They’re already floating the possibility in the news. Super Tuesday will be the tipping point one way or another.

RAH RAH RAH GO TEAM GOP
Honestly, I hope Hillary utterly annihilates Trump, Cruz, or whoever the GOP nominee is in the general election, just to take your smugness down a notch or two.
I’d like to be the Tums salesman to the GOP:
you’ve got Trump making off with the Crown Jewels while Cruz stays at the door laying down a line of fire to prevent any normal Republican from chasing after him.

I’ve read where the reason they are looking at what to do with the convention is due to not knowing if anyone will have a clear majority so they need to plan ahead.
Not sure I buy all that.
The convention will be something to be watch for sure.

People choose be disabled. They could not be disabled if they chose.
That’s what freedom is about: choices. If disabilities are not a choice then freedom doesn’t exist!
Alright Lizards, I hate to rant and run, but I went shopping today and I have a headache that could power a small city from dealing with nitwits and then coming home to a muddy dog and other assorted messes. I think I need a drink. Or four.

Considering the field I can’t see any way that can’t be the GOP’s fate.
What I worry about then is how the wingnuts will react when they realize they have no legal or ethical way to win an election. Oklahoma City style attacks might become much more common.

Not only overrated - “The Iowa caucuses are a fraud”
boomantribune.com
“you would have never known it in all the hype leading up to Iowa, but their caucuses have “practically no effect” on who will get the delegates from the Hawkeye state at the Republican National Convention. In 2012, Iowa had 28 delegates at the convention, and according to the New York Times, Ron Paul got 22 of them, Romney got five, and Rick Santorum got zero. One vote is listed as undetermined but probably went for Romney.”

Oh, President Obama, why weren’t you more trustworthy in dealing with the Republicans?
What have you witnessed over the last 7 years? Certainly not a GOP congress that wanted to work with Obama, especially not on climate change.
You’re not ignorant on climate change. And you at least see yourself as a moral person. So how can you reconcile delaying action? The health of your party over the health of the planet. Is that a lesson you want to teach your children?
No offense, but seriously you sound fucked in the head.
