This has really been the year that the Republican Party went totally, irrevocably off the rails. With the campaign of Donald Trump and the rest of the lunatic presidential candidates, we’re seeing the mainstreaming of a host of bizarre and bigoted conspiracy theories that used to be relegated to fringe websites like Alex Jones’ Infowars — and indeed, Infowars itself is now a mainstream source of crackpot ideas for the right wing, including Donald Trump, with a permanent link on the front page of Drudge Report.

And here’s yet another example, as Donald Trump picks completely insane conspiracy theorist Wayne Allyn Root to emcee his Nevada rally tonight, in advance of the GOP debate tomorrow.

Right Wing Watch put together a retrospective of Root’s bizarre and self-contradictory conspiracy theories, starting with his whacked-out claim that President Obama never actually attended Columbia University — but at the same time that’s where he learned how to trick America into accepting socialist domination.

This guy is flat out nuts.

But then, so is Donald Trump.
