Carly Fiorina Insists Retired General Had a Dispute With Obama Even Though the Actual General Says He Didn’t

Never let facts get in the way of an anti-Obama talking point
Politics • Views: 52,481

I read this earlier and just can’t stop chuckling about it. In the debate last night, Carly Fiorina said, “One of the things I would immediately do in addition to defeating them here at home is bring back the warrior class: Petraeus, McChrystal, Mattis, Keane, Flynn. Every single one of these generals I know, every one was retired early because they told President Obama things that he didn’t want to hear.”

So then today, Gen. Jack Keane went on Fox News and pointed out that he resigned during the George W. Bush administration in 2003. Keane said, “No, I have never spoken to the president. That’s not accurate, and I never served this administration. I served the previous administration.”

Oopsie, Carly! You might think she’d apologize for getting this so wrong, but remember, in this election season no Republican ever admits being mistaken about anything. And so, when asked about the General’s disavowal of her claim, Fiorina simply repeated it! Awesome.

Carly Fiorina Digs in on Claim That General’s Retirement Was Due to Obama Dispute.

When asked Wednesday if she misspoke, Fiorina dug in on the accuracy of her statement.

“No, I didn’t misspeak,” Fiorina told reporters today. “He has been someone of great experience who has been highly critical of the way this administration has not taken threats seriously and unfortunately he hasn’t been listened to and I would listen to him.”

It sure didn’t hurt Pruneface Reagan who never went to church when he was President. He probably did that on the advice of Nancy’s astrologer. But that didn’t stop every pulpit pimp preacher from kissing President Pruneface’s ass!

The time is not quite here when the RWNJs like Dana “Muhgunz!” Loesch, Fiorina or Sarah Palin come up against a uniformed military officer, who will not descend down the bottomless rabbit hole of hate with them, and they denounce the U.S. military as being riddled with pro-Islamist traitors.

Not quite here. But soon.

If so, then the GOP field in 2020 will be markedly worse than this collection of cretins and clowns. Trump might try again, and whether or not Trump is in the race, there will definitely be several odious ‘mini-Mes’ running using Trump’s fascist play book.

I do have a secure link to their web site to run the card securely, but I need to get the number and other info so I can key it in.

I did not realize that if you go through your bank, you can get a better rate compared to signing up online with the same service. Huntington Bank here in Columbus set me up with the package. Also, there are no minimum processes I need to run in any time period to avoid extra fees, etc.

Lizards I am going to call it night. The plumbing gods hate me. A simple, honey, my bathroom sink needs a new faucet has now turned into a complete renovation.

While attempting to remove the offending faucet, (after shutting off the water to the whole place since the manufacture obvious felt shut off valves to the sink & toilet were not needed) wrench slip off of a highly corrode fitting, cracking the sink.

Since we have been wanting to replace it anyway, we go get a new pedestal style sink that she wanted (and shut off valves).

While removing the sink and cabinet, the toilet decided it wanted to tip over because the floor under it has rotted out due to leakage between the base and the flange.

To make things even more fun, the idiots that built this place put a reducer on the cold water line so they could put in a splitter to feed both the sink and toilet so the shutoff valve I bought will not work on the cold water line.

So after a quick jury rig to get a shut off valve on the cold water line, we were able to turn the water back on. Now I have to get the reducer off (after turning the water off again), install the shutoff valve properly, remove the toilet, repair the floor and reinstall everything.

Obligatory it’s Obama’s fault sarc.

Damn! If I knew voting for McCain/Palin 8 years ago was going to come back and bite me in the ass this hard I swear I would have voted for Obama in the first place. :-)

Damn. Doesn’t sound like the builder was up to code. Go figure.

I signed up with my bank and got a great rate using CloverGo. Problem is I need to key the info in as he is not in my area of the country and I can’t use the card swipe machine.

So glad my clients are all old-school and still write checks!

Another GOP consultant, who probably will not be employed by Trump, explains how Trump is going to ruin the party.

“It’s about whether or not the Republican Party is going to be the party of limited government constitutional conservatism or whether it’s going to be a party that is built around the strongman cult of personality of a Donald Trump,” Wilson said.

Wilson added that a similar “cult of personality” didn’t fare as well for the Democratic Party in the long term.

“We’ve seen what happened to the Democratic Party when they basically subsumed every one of their political instincts into Barack Obama,” he said. “It became about Obama. They lost seats by the thousands nationally. At every level, from dogcatcher up to U.S. Senate, the Democrats have been largely wiped off the map in state after state after state in the U.S., in part because it became all about Obama and not about ideas.”

What a surprise—he runs his hotel just like his campaign.

Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas launched a legal challenge to its 500-odd workers’ effort to form a union…their company is “objecting to the outcome of the vote and want it thrown out.”…

Yet while organizing around these demands, the workers have faced intimidation and retaliation. Trump and hotel co-owner Phil Ruffin contracted the anti-union law firm Seyfarth Shaw to discourage the workers from organizing. Last year, the hotel violated federal labor law by suspending five workers for wearing union buttons and talking to their coworkers about the union drive. They were eventually reinstated with back pay. The union also filed an official complaint accusing Trump management of “incidents of alleged physical assault, verbal abuse, intimidation, and threats.”

Yeah—he’s going to make America Great Again!!!

Oh, and

Tuesday’s night’s Republican debate is taking place at The Venetian — one of the last remaining non-union hotels on the Las Vegas Strip, owned by the billionaire conservative donor Sheldon Adelson. Trump is openly seeking Adelson’s endorsement but says he doesn’t need his money, and huddled with him just before the debate.

All through 2012, we got told that the election was a “referendum,” not only on the President but upon every Democrat who was in any way connected to him (which really was every Democrat, even Blue Dogs who would sell their souls to keep their seats). But now the wingnuts want to rewrite history to claim that it was Democrats who bought into a cult of personality around the President, which is why they lost their seats.

SarahPalin is one of those RW hypocrites who talks about God continuously but whose family is “too busy” to attend services for even an hour on Sunday according to Bristol, her eldest daughter. Sarah never claimed this wasn’t accurate and when asked about it, spoke about her busy schedule fundraising for the candidates. IOW, she needs to keep that PAC fully funded, it’s the family’s main source of income.

Fiorina also lied about McChrystal, who retired after a disparaging article was published about him in Rolling Stone. Petraeus went to the CIA after retiring from the military, obviously still working with the Obama administration. It appears there’s nothing Fiorina won’t say in order to further her agenda. Yet if asked again about the statement she made, she will repeat it, making excuses and not caring she’s been caught in a lie. She either believes her followers don’t know the truth or don’t care about it. Fiorina proves every time she opens her mouth that she doesn’t belong in any position of authority, especially not in the White House.

OT - I know we have a couple of Colorado people here. I intend to honor last year’s promise to myself to NOT spend another Christmas in Texas, by driving out of state for a day or two. Going back north to family isn’t an option, so I figured I’d get away for the weekend to Colorado.

I was thinking of driving up to Pagosa Springs. It’s in the south part of the state, reachable in a very long day’s drive from DFW (I think?), and the route passes through some country I wanted to see anyway.

Good destination? Bad? Is there someplace a little closer to Texas that would let me be in mountains and snow?

I’m looking at road conditions and I think if I stay out of the mountain passes proper I should be OK. I drive a small Mazda wagon with all-season tires, so I’m not in a big manly truck or anything. I was just thinking of a touristy escape for a day or two. Any input appreciated…

David Petraeus is a hero, but he still deserved to lose his job over his penis malfunctions (it kept ending up in the wrong vagina) and his passing classified information to the woman in whose vagina his penis kept ending up.

That said, his insight is still sharp and when he recently testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee he was welcomed and well-regarded by the senators of both parties.

So for policymakers to listen to David Petraeus is appropriate, but his good ideas and good works should not cause us to whitewash his major moral and ethical failure.

Scott Walker signs bills dismantling GAB, overhauling campaign finance law

Gov. Scott Walker has cemented key changes in time for the 2016 political campaign, signing into law bills giving campaign finance law its biggest makeover in decades and dismantling and replacing Wisconsin’s oversight board for elections and elected officials.

Walker’s signing of the two bills, announced in a press release, was conducted in private Wednesday. It was widely expected after the bills passed the Legislature last month on votes that largely mirrored party lines.

The campaign finance measure dials back restrictions on money flowing into state political campaigns, some of which had been struck down by court rulings.

Sad personal news. My daughter has informed me that our ancient tomcat Roo had to be put down tonight because of acute kidney failure. He had been under treatment for several days but was not responding. He was 24 years and 7 months old. Roo had been with us since he was weaned. My daughter, then 8 years old, named him. She was very attached to him, so he went with her when she graduated from college and moved to a place of her own. He had a very long and happy life and seemed to enjoy his final years, though he slept most of the time. He was healthy right up to his final illness. He was the last of the pets my late wife and I had. Our calico cat, Barsoom, died in 2004 and our little dog, Roswell the Atomic Poodle, followed in 2010 at the age of 16.

Sorry to hear, Shiplord.

Our oldest cat, a rescue we call W00t, has been slowly losing weight over the past few months, and I’m afraid that he won’t be with us a whole lot longer. He is our first pet, we got him two years before we were married. Our vet told us he was 3 or 4 when we got him, so he could be as old as 15 or 16 at this point.

He’s used up a couple of his lives already, nearly succumbing to diabetic shock five years ago but making a full recovery. He’s about blind now, and follows wherever the humans go now, just wanting to hang with us. It’s like he knows he doesn’t have a lot of time left and wants to hang with us for the remainder.

That cat hated me for the first couple of years, but slowly came around, and now he’s my old man cat bud. He’s a happy old guy, and I’m going to miss him like hell when we finally have to say goodbye. Like my pop always said, you get a pet and when they finally get good they go and pass away on you.

I just saw this exchange. Glad to see someone in the MSM FINALLY challenges Trump on his bullshit racist birferism:

Matthews then asked again if Trump really thinks Obama is an illegitimate president, but the real estate mogul again insisted that he didn’t want to answer the question.

“I do think that’s a blemish. I think it’s your original sin,” Matthews told Trump about his birther past. “Because I’m an American, and I think our president should be respected. I think it has a little ethnic aspect to it. I don’t like it. He’s African American, and we’re saying he’s not a real president. I don’t like that. It’s not a good thing about you.”

As Matthews spoke, Trump only said, “I know how you feel,” and, “I understand.”

Judging by the exchange, apparently this is an off-limits question set by the Herr Trump campaign. Imagine if Candidate/President Obama had off-limit questions in 2008 or 2012.

I wouldn’t call Petreaus a hero. Always had the impression that what he was most skilled at was touting himself and maneuvering through the bureaucratic maze and wars of the Pentagon (that skill by the way is a necessary one if you are a GO that wants to enact good policy). His strategy wasn’t exactly anything incomparably brilliant; not terrible just nothing that amazing. It wasn’t so much the additional troops on the ground, though that helped, but pretty much paying off and co-opting various insurgent elements and using the additional force to be aggressive enough that it encouraged these groups in a classic stick carrot method (something being done with various degrees of success at local levels). Really his greatest skill was probably selling this as a strategy to the militarily incompetent and optics obsessed Bush administration. The end result was to create enough breathing room for us to declare victory and bounce it didn’t create a real lasting political solution (which was at that point not that likely to occur so no real beef here) but did offer the opportunity for it at least. So he did his job fairly well while keeping an eye on self advancement which is laudable but not really heroic especially at the general officer lever. As for the later stuff well he’s hardly the first person (male and female) to make bad decisions regarding their junk during and after war. It’s just that the junior enlisted, NCO’s and junior officers get caught more but it doesn’t make the news.

It’s great that somebody has been found and will be held accountable. But when an entire school system is shut down because two students call in a threat? That’s a sign that there is something seriously wrong with this country.

re: #53 Charles Johnson

Lots of sleepless nights trying to cajole his caucus to do anything, including their constitutional obligation to pass budgets. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

At the same time, you’ve got the GOP complaining that the new budget sucks, but not because it increases the deficit by billions, but because parts of it (the Cadillac tax and medical device tax delays) make it more difficult to get a full repeal of Obamacare. Yeah, they delayed the taxes (and the revenues they generate), increasing the deficit by billions so as to starve Obamacare and hopefully cause a death spiral, but their real concern is that it makes it more difficult to repeal Obamacare.

The GOP doesn’t have any alternative in place if they did repeal it. No plan. Nothing. They have vaporware and malware that would cost more and do less.

It’s the epitome of GOP fiscal irresponsibility. Nothing they are doing in this regard passes the smell test.

They complain when oil prices have dropped to decadal low, the economy is humming along with low unemployment, the Fed raised interest rates for the first time in more than 8 years and they still call the president a socialist or worse, even as record profits continue rolling in on Wall Street and main street (to a lesser degree because the 1% continues to suck up most of the gains leaving everyone else behind).

So what else does the GOP include in their budget? Well, they include more business giveaways and extend items like bonus depreciation yet again, even though it was meant to be a short term fix.

The investigation, in which Mr. Shkreli has been charged with securities fraud, is related to his time as a hedge fund manager and running the biopharmaceutical company Retrophin — not the price-gouging controversy that has swirled around him.

So sorry to hear this news, but glad he had a long and happy life.

Putting an end to a week-long mystery, the family of billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson confirmed Thursday morning that it has “purchased the Las Vegas Review-Journal through a wholly-owned fund.”

The family said in a statement that it was “proud to announce” the acquisition, and said it never intended to keep the news a secret.

The statement was printed in Thursday’s edition of the Review-Journal, alongside a thoroughly reported story that used anonymous sources to identify Adelson’s son-in-law Patrick Dumont as the broker of the deal. It was a strange juxtaposition.

Just what we need is more guns.

Road rage incident leaves at least two dead, as gunman fired at multiple vehicles on Oklahoma interstate highway.

At least two people were killed overnight Wednesday in an apparent road rage attack across western Oklahoma that involved multiple cars, authorities said.

The first calls came in at about 11:35 p.m. local time in Canadian County, west of Oklahoma City, with reports of a shooting on Interstate 40. As the vehicle traveled westbound through two more counties, multiple shots were fired at numerous cars, Custer County Sheriff Bruce Peoples told NBC News.

At least one person was killed in Caddo County, and the second in neighboring Custer County, Peoples added. The victims were not immediately identified.

A suspect was chased by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for about 45 miles. The gunman — an unidentified male driver — was arrested early Thursday without incident in Custer County, and was being held in the county jail, authorities said.

Other reports suggest DUI involved too, and that the driver tried forcing some cars off the road.

Some young fit people of a certain intelligence level (not too high, not too low) ended up as grunts. Doing other stuff like being a firefighter or a soldier without volunteering for Federal Service didn’t count. The Merchant Service line was Robert Heinlein’s way of calling attention to the fact that at the time he wrote merchant sailors on ships that carried food and war material to the UK and USSR during were not considered to be veterans and were not eligible for benefits, despite the massive loss of life such men suffered to Axis subs, aircraft, and surface raiders in the Battle of the Atlantic. The injustice was eventually righted in part, but Heinlein had long since died.

You may remember (you do, after all, have a “perfect memory!”), that we met back in November of 1998 in the green room of a talk show where we were both scheduled to appear one afternoon. But just before going on, I was pulled aside by a producer from the show who said that you were “nervous” about being on the set with me. She said you didn’t want to be “ripped apart” and you wanted to be reassured I wouldn’t “go after you.”

“Does he think I’m going to tackle him and put him in a choke hold?” I asked, bewildered.

“No,” the producer replied, “he just seems all jittery about you.”

“Huh. I’ve never met the guy. There’s no reason for him to be scared,” I said. “I really don’t know much about him other than he seems to like his name on stuff. I’ll talk to him if you want me to.”

And so, as you may remember, I did. I went up and introduced myself to you. “The producer says you’re worried I might say or do something to you during the show. Hey, no offense, but I barely know who you are. I’m from Michigan. Please don’t worry — we’re gonna get along just fine!”

You seemed relieved, then leaned in and said to me, “I just didn’t want any trouble out there and I just wanted to make sure that, you know, you and I got along. That you weren’t going to pick on me for something ridiculous.”

“Pick on” you? I thought, where are we, in 3rd grade? I was struck by how you, a self-described tough guy from Queens, seemed like such a fraidey-cat.

You and I went on to do the show. Nothing untoward happened between us. I didn’t pull on your hair, didn’t put gum on your seat. “What a wuss,” was all I remember thinking as I left the set.

And now, here we are in 2015 and, like many other angry white guys, you are frightened by a bogeyman who is out to get you. That bogeyman, in your mind, are all Muslims. Not just the ones who have killed, but ALL MUSLIMS.

Fortunately, Donald, you and your supporters no longer look like what America actually is today. We are not a country of angry white guys. Here’s a statistic that is going to make your hair spin: Eighty-one percent of the electorate who will pick the president next year are either female, people of color, or young people between the ages of 18 and 35. In other words, not you. And not the people who want you leading their country.

So, in desperation and insanity, you call for a ban on all Muslims entering this country. I was raised to believe that we are all each other’s brother and sister, regardless of race, creed or color. That means if you want to ban Muslims, you are first going to have to ban me. And everyone else.
We are all Muslim.

Just as we are all Mexican, we are all Catholic and Jewish and white and black and every shade in between. We are all children of God (or nature or whatever you believe in), part of the human family, and nothing you say or do can change that fact one iota. If you don’t like living by these American rules, then you need to go to the time-out room in any one of your Towers, sit there, and think about what you’ve said.

And then leave the rest of us alone so we can elect a real president who is both compassionate and strong — at least strong enough not to be all whiny and scared of some guy in a ballcap from Michigan sitting next to him on a talk show couch. You’re not so tough, Donny, and I’m glad I got to see the real you up close and personal all those years ago. http://michaelmoore.com/weareallmuslim

We are all Muslim. Deal with it.
All my best,
Michael Moore

Trump’s Hollywood “tough guy” act has been well honed as a reality star.

Have him put it in onetimesecret.com and send you the url.

As the name suggests, the url generated is only good for one access.

Morning Lizardios.

I just tried to log in to this site to check it out. Site is down for maintenance. Oops.

For those that were helping me, my hosting company DreamHost helped set up an email account for the client that he and I can access through an https// connection. Once the client put the info in the draft I have up there, he will email me. I’ll get the info and then delete the drafts text and then delete the text. The host company said it should be secure for the amount of time it is on their server. Ordinarily access to the mailbox is not through a secure address, but they showed me how to get around that to use the https:// address.

So, thanks for all the help and suggestions. I bookmarked the links everyone gave me in case I need other methods.

Judging by the exchange, apparently this is an off-limits question set by the Herr Trump campaign. Imagine if Candidate/President Obama had off-limit questions in 2008 or 2012.

If not already posted…Trump also said “I am not going to answer that question” when pushed further by Tweety Matthews.

So leader-like. I would not trust anyone running for high office if they can’t answer a question. Hell, he could always do the CruzSlick dance and just misdirect an answer and then give a greasy smile.

You all know how important it is that we have “trustworthy” Presidents, right? : )

From Daily Kos: American Muslims rally to condemn ISIS, American bigots claim it was a parade in support of ISIS:

In Dearborn, Michigan, American Muslims held a march to denounce ISIS. As in they held an actual parade to condemn ISIS and ISIS’ version of Islam which is, uncannily enough, exactly what many shrieking xenophobes (e.g. sitting congressman and King of the Mole Rats Steve King) have been demanding American Muslims “do” in order to disassociate themselves with the bad people.

You know what happened next, right? It took about 10 days for conservatives online to start sending each other pictures of the march with claims that it was a rally in support of ISIS.

Understood. That’s why I stated they should investigate first. Is the threat credible or is it a hoax? If credible, by all means shut down the school. But if it’s a hoax, it needs to be treated like this.

$10,000 cash bail ordered for Edmonds teens in school threats case

EDMONDS, Wash. - A judge has ordered bail set at $10,000 cash for each of two teenagers accused of making violent threats on social media against others at Edmonds Woodway High School.

Rinse Pubis must have given out the directive to squawk that out as many times as they could. The base loves that shit.

So, as I was working with that chattering in the background a thought came to me.

If you feed your base a well-worn line like “political correctness” for them to lick up like hogs at the trough, are you not in fact being politically correct in relation to your base?

You know Dark, throughout history a lot of this manly chest thumping and sniffing of testosterone has led to a lot of real bad stuff, like wars, terror, etc. It takes the stronger man to feel he doesn’t need to prove to others just how tough he is and that his good deeds say a hell of a lot more. I bet he ends up in a lot more trouble with the feds than this. I think this is a start and once in their custody they are going to grill him hard.

Wasn’t it also reported he had planned to try some kind of shoot ‘em up back a few years ago with the SB terrorist dude? If that is true, he is in deep.

Season’s beatings: Texas GOP official threatens to slap next person who wishes him ‘Happy holidays’

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the Republican official said that he would “slap” anyone who wished him “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas.”

“If one more person says Happy Holidays to me I just might slap them. Either tell me Merry Christmas or just don’t say anything,” Miller wrote.

The message included a photo of a cowboy riding a bull in front of a sign that read: “We Will Never Take Christ Out Of Christmas.”

The Starship Troopers “Federal Service” was a case of volunteering and doing what the Government told you to do for two years or so. It didn’t have to be life-threatening but it could be. Some young fit people of a certain intelligence level (not too high, not too low) ended up as grunts. Doing other stuff like being a firefighter or a soldier without volunteering for Federal Service didn’t count. There was mention made of this about folks in the Merchant Service wanting Federal Service credit and not getting it.

There was no upper age limit as far as I could tell from the story so folks as old as Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton could volunteer today and they’d have to be accepted into the system. Even Sheldon Adelson could volunteer…

The only way a person could be turned away was if psychiatrists determined if the applicant was incapable of understanding the oath taken.

Which would probably exclude most of the GOP Presidential field. Graham and Kasich might. The test of them can’t even spell ‘volunteer’.

A shared-lane marking or sharrow[1] is a street marking installed at locations in Australia, Canada, United States or Spain. This marking is placed in the travel lane to indicate where people should preferably cycle.

Too many goddamn Christians got it in their head that ‘turn the other cheek’ meant winding up for a retaliatory sucker-punch.

I think Gandhi was right with his often mentioned quote.

“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

I’d like to add that it seems in some Christian churches they must not teach Christ’s teachings. Maybe they too are really practicing a cynical agnosticism or are in fact atheists.

I stick to Happy Holidays since in the NYC metro area, I’m just as likely to encounter someone Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, or other religious group as someone who is Christian (including Eastern Orthodox, who celebrate Christmas not on 12/25 but some time in January)

If you’re going to be President, the least you should know is that the football that the President has on hand at all times contains the means to end all life on earth courtesy of the nuclear triad. And you should know what comprises the nuclear triad - the USAF bombers, ICBMs, and sub launched missiles. Bonus points if you can include nuclear tipped cruise missiles too.

Trump? He couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn from the inside with his response to that issue during the debate.

Now, imagine if HRC had booted that question as badly as Trump did.

Note too that when Rubio talked about modernizing the Ohio class subs, he seems to ignore that the US is already committed to doing that - a replacement ship design is being let out to contract and upgrades to existing boats are underway as well. So, his rhetoric ignores that Obama is already doing what he says he’d do (which is rather typical for the GOP these days to claim Obama is weak on defense, and then parrot some hardline position as though it’s different than what the current administration is already doing).

There is a bike lane on Northwestern Highway (M-10) in Oakland county MI. Northwestern is an extension of a major freeway that comes out of Detroit. The bike lane shows up for about 1/2 mile and then abruptly stops.

I was a pedestrian when I was hit, though. Recovery is existence, at this point. Existence is good, it beats the alternative by a long shot. But I still have dizziness in my head. Part of recovery is figuring out how I differ from what was my ‘normal’. The rest is waiting for improvement, which they say will happen, but they don’t know when.

We have them all over Columbus now. Over the last few years they have increased in number. Most of the streets that have them lead to the really thorough dedicated bike and pedestrian paths that you can ride for many miles. I’m just east of downtown and not far from the purple “Alum Creek” trail on this map. I gotta get me another bike. I wanted to get one right before I lost my full time job and haven’t had the bucks to get what I want.

In many parts of Columbus where the streets are wide enough, there are actual bike only lanes. They are about three feet wide or so and in some instances are to the left of a turn lane and still to the right of the forward traffic lanes.

Added to our awesome Metro Parks system, Columbus really has a lot of low cost opportunities for nice family entertainment.

I think we need to educate cyclists and car drivers to coexist on the roads, with wide enough lanes to allow for that.

Sadly though, there are still cyclists that do not follow the rules of the road too.

One of my concerns is the rider that rides up from behind a line of stopped traffic and goes almost all the way into the crosswalk by the curb and stops and doesn’t pay attention to someone that wants to make a right hand turn on red. Sometimes you don’t get the clear to make the turn and the light turns green and then they go straight when you have the right to make the turn as the car was at the lane first. The car at the light still has the right to turn, or do I have that wrong?

Cyclists always let me know they’re coming and slow down to give me a chance to get my boys close to let them safely pass. It helps that the trails are 10 feet wide and concrete. There’s always a friendly greeting as well which adds to the pleasure.

I almost hit a guy that way once as he was coming up the right side just as the light turned. He got pissed at me and grabbed his water bottle and squirted it at me.

According to the state of Utah, I earned the right to carry a concealed handgun on a Saturday morning in a suburban shopping center outside Baltimore. Toward the back, next to a pawnshop and White Trash Matt’s tattoo parlor, is the global headquarters of Dukes Defense World, a mom-and-pop firearms instruction shop certified by the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification to teach nonresidents firearm safety as a prerequisite for obtaining a concealed-carry permit.

My achievement doesn’t make sense for a number of reasons. One, I don’t live in Utah. I’m a resident of Washington, DC, a city that holds concealed handguns in roughly the same esteem as working escalators. I’ve never shot a gun. And in distinctly un-Utahn fashion, I’m nursing a hangover. Fortunately, none of that matters here. After four hours at Dukes Defense, I have a completed application and a snazzy graduation certificate for my wall. Sixty days after my application is processed, I’ll be able to carry a concealed weapon in no fewer than 32 states. It’s great for road trips.

I haven’t seen a problem with this so far. There’s a long section of the trail right next to the park where I live that I walk with my dogs a lot. Cyclists always let me know they’re coming and slow down to give me a chance to get my boys close to let them safely pass. It helps that the trails are 10 feet wide and concrete. There’s always a friendly greeting as well which adds to the pleasure.

Toddlers with inattentive parents are the biggest hazard for cyclists. Speedy cyclist are a danger to everyone. They are way too often not lit up at night, too.

Rude and stupid. Some jerks feel so superior because they are on a bike. They are dangerous.

Cyclists need to respect pedestrians, and vice-versa. They need to learn how to share a path.

I was hit from behind by a cyclist once, on campus.

Fortunately my worst injury was a few scrapes, but I will definitely say that as someone who both walked and drove on that campus, the cyclists there had no concern for anyone else and no respect for traffic laws. I pretty much expected them to violate every traffic law and drove accordingly. It saved at least 2 accidents.

From the New York Times article on pharma-boys arrest

Why do I get the feeling that once he started price-gouging someone pointed the Feds at his previous activity?

Worked with a guy who retired as regional director of the SEC before becoming a consultant to securities defense attorneys..

He once told me when the SEC announced they were investigating a company; “you would be amazed at the number of anonymous manila envelopes of copied documents that would show up at our office.”

For some reason, I don’t think I’d be amazed at the number… We’ve all got a little Tyler Durden in us.

Sorry to read that.

Predictability is key to sharing a space. Too bad cyclists are being predictable assholes. It’s going to get worse with the motors that are appearing on them all over.

I have Palladia on and there is a two-piece female rock combo on the Jools Holland show…guitar and drums.

They are very loud and noisy and called Deep Valley.

Any guess how the two young ladies are dressed?

I do my best to remember that not all cyclists are like that. It is in general easier when I am nowhere near campus.

I like to brake and give the maximum amount of space possible.
