Sounds suitably Bond-ish. And Jonny Greenwood is turning into quite the composer.

So nat’ralists observe, a flea
Has smaller fleas that on him prey;
And these have smaller fleas to bite ‘em.
And so proceeds Ad infinitum.

Great fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite ‘em,
And little fleas have lesser fleas, and so ad infinitum.
And the great fleas themselves, in turn, have greater fleas to go on,
While these again have greater still, and greater still, and so on.

It’s not just Tweets. This guy has a post from Monday about the Spanish Civil War that openly favors Gen. Franco’s Nationalists. Here’s a part of it (the link is filtered through donotlink.com):

The Fall Of Seville, 1936

By the mid-1930s, Spain was gripped by a crisis that had been years in the making. A leftist government had stood by and permitted large parts of the country to fall into the hands of extreme left-wing forces, such as anarchists, radical socialists, and communists. These people, like their revolutionary counterparts in other European nations, cared little or nothing for Spain’s history and traditions.

Their purpose was to sweep away everything that smacked of the “old Spain”: religion, tradition, social structures, and much else. To this end, many of them found support from interested parties abroad, most notably the Soviet Union, which saw local communist parties as extensions of its own intelligence services.

In fact, by the eve of the outbreak of civil war in 1936, some radical leftists had begun actively to persecute clerics, religious orders, and nearly anyone with wealth or social influence. Seville, the capital of Andalusia, was well-known as one of the most radical cities in Spain.

By July 1936, tensions which had existed for decades could not longer be kept in check. The increasing leftist radicalization of the country-which the central government in Madrid either approved of or was unable to stop-triggered a furious reaction from the forces of law, order, and tradition. The Spanish Army, like most armies, was a bastion of proud conservatism, and was unwilling to sit by and permit the country to descend into revolutionary chaos. Thus the stage was set for one of the most ferocious civil wars of the twentieth century.

The military initiated an uprising against the central government beginning on July 17-18. The revolt was led by generals Franco, Mola, Sanjurjo, Goded, and Queipo de Llano. Like all coups, it was critical to establish control of Spain’s main urban centers right from the beginning. It was a daring and bold conspiracy, but one that the army felt it had little choice in.

The rising succeeded immediately in some places, and failed in others. The capture of Seville by the army rebels was notable in the use of both force and daring to carry it out. The army leader in Seville, Queipo de Llano, did make some exaggerated claims regarding the seizure of the city; but it is clear that bold and decisive action by a small force against a much larger one was the main reason the rising succeeded in Seville.

Queipo de Llano was also an open advocate of rape as a weapon:

Our brave Legionaries and Regulares have shown the red cowards what it means to be a man. And, incidentally the wives of reds too. These Communist and Anarchist women, after all, have made themselves fair game by their doctrine of free love. And now they have at least the acquaintance of real men, and not milksops of militiamen. Kicking their legs about and struggling won’t save them.

Reflections On The Trump Administration

certainly the centerpiece of the trump administration has been the largest public works project since the wpa and possibly since the pyramids, The Wall. while increased tax receipts from the full employment it has produced have not nearly made up for the amount of money borrowed from china to build it, the president continues to insist that somehow mexico will be forced to pony up

in the meantime debt service in the federal buget has ballooned to 14% as The Wall remains the one thing trump can point to in fullfillment, in as much as it has been finished up to this point, of his “huge” slate of actions.

the massive protectionist tariff schedule he has proposed in order to restore the manufacturing economy as well as balance the budget we predict will remain stalled in congress as wall st continues to demonstrate that republican legislators stay bought. the increasingly obscene rhetoric directed at this opposition by the president, while provoking sqeals of delight amongst his followers, has done little to impress multinational corporations, which have also frustrated his efforts to deport the low wage undocumented workforce they have long relied on to balance their books. little did we suspect in 2016 that the courts could be so tied up with well funded efforts subscribed to by the koch bros among many of their ilk

nevertheless, the burden on borrowing plus the pressure on wages plus the chilling effect of the president’s economic rhetoric have succeeded in producing the now familiar “TrumpFlation” that is straining america’s pocketbooks even as employers scramble to hoover up workers. trump’s efforts to blame it on “high obama taxes and obamacare” are credited by few outside of his core supporters.

with the 2018 midterms looming, republican legislators fearful of challenges from both democrats as well as trump party primariers are increasingly crafting their message to draft democrats in the effort to keep trumpism from triumphing
