Far Right Militia “Occupies” Federal Wildlife Refuge Headquarters

“We’re planning on staying here for years”
US News • Views: 53,635

Meanwhile in Oregon, members of the Cliven Bundy family have joined forces with local militias and “occupied” a building in a federal wildlife refuge: Militia takes over Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters.

The Bundy family of Nevada joined with hard-core militiamen Saturday to take over the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, vowing to occupy the remote federal outpost 50 miles southeast of Burns for years.

The occupation came shortly after an estimated 300 marchers – militia and local citizens both – paraded through Burns to protest the prosecution of two Harney County ranchers, Dwight Hammond Jr. and Steven Hammond, who are to report to prison Monday.

Among the occupiers is Ammon Bundy, son of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, and two of his brothers. Militia members at the refuge claimed they had as many as 150 supporters with them. The refuge was closed and unoccupied for the weekend.

In phone interviews from inside the occupied building Saturday night, Ammon Bundy and his brother, Ryan Bundy, said they are not looking to hurt anyone. But they would not rule out violence if law enforcement tries to remove them, they said, though they declined to elaborate.

“The facility has been the tool to do all the tyranny that has been placed upon the Hammonds,” Ammon Bundy said.

“We’re planning on staying here for years, absolutely,” he added. “This is not a decision we’ve made at the last minute.”

Good training exercise for the state patrol. Put a circle around the place, no one goes in or out for, say, 2x “awhile”. Then ignore them and any statements they make. Arrest them when the get hungry enough to come out.

Twits.

Very dumb move by the militias. Only one road in/out to the headquarters. Area surrounded by snow covered desert. Going to be very cold in that part of the high desert. Very easy for the authorites to block access and any resupply. Also just one power line to turn off.

Just wait them out and remove the frozen stiffs in the spring.

My thought was to block the roads, then turn off the power and water. They claim to have generators, but the fuel won’t last forever. And without water, I suspect the place wouldn’t be habitable for long.

re: #35 The Vicious Babushka

“…The jury convicted both of the Hammonds of using fire to destroy federal property for a 2001 arson known as the Hardie-Hammond Fire, located in the Steens Mountain Cooperative Management and Protection Area. Witnesses at trial, including a relative of the Hammonds, testified the arson occurred shortly after Steven Hammond and his hunting party illegally slaughtered several deer on BLM property. Jurors were told that Steven Hammond handed out “Strike Anywhere” matches with instructions that they be lit and dropped on the ground because they were going to “light up the whole country on fire.” One witness testified that he barely escaped the eight to ten foot high flames caused by the arson. The fire consumed 139 acres of public land and destroyed all evidence of the game violations. After committing the arson, Steven Hammond called the BLM office in Burns, Oregon and claimed the fire was started on Hammond property to burn off invasive species and had inadvertently burned onto public lands. Dwight and Steven Hammond told one of their relatives to keep his mouth shut and that nobody needed to know about the fire.”

re: #35 The Vicious Babushka

In 2001 and 2006, they set fires on federal land (arson). They were convicted and sentenced to only 1 year in prison. There’s a mandatory minimum of 5 years. The prosecution appealed and got the sentence reversed at the 9th Circuit. The Supreme Court refused to hear the case. The Hammonds were sentenced to a full five years, minus the time already served. They are supposed to fly to California on Monday and turn themselves in.

That was my thought as well, cut the vital services, blockade the roads, and arrest anyone who tries to move supplies in or tries to escape. And then sit back and watch as they inevitably end up fighting each other over the dwindling supplies.

jaunte  Jan 2, 2016 • 7:29:21pm
“By law, arson on federal land carries a five-year mandatory minimum sentence. When the Hammonds were originally sentenced, they argued that the five-year mandatory minimum terms were unconstitutional and the trial court agreed and imposed sentences well below what the law required based upon the jury’s verdicts. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, however, upheld the federal law, reasoning that “given the seriousness of arson, a five-year sentence is not grossly disproportionate to the offense.” The court vacated the original, unlawful sentences and ordered that the Hammonds be resentenced “in compliance with the law.” In March 2015, the Supreme Court rejected the Hammonds’ petitions for certiorari. Today, Chief Judge Aiken imposed five year prison terms on each of the Hammonds, with credit for time they already served.”

Ayep, the District Court judge decided the mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years was “excessive” and only sentenced them to a year, which led to the appeal to the 9th Circuit. And while I’m sure we all agree that mandatory minimums can be a crock, judges are supposed to enforce the letter of the law, not write it from the bench based upon their impression of the defendant(s).

1. Announce over loudspeakers they are all under arrest and must appear for trial
2. Any that come out arrest and jail
3. Any that don’t are tried anyway. If they choose to come out to testify or plead see #2
4. After conviction don’t let anyone out for the duration of their sentence.
5. Anyone wanting in can stay
6. Court fees include the cost of building a new headquarters building to replace “jail”
7. If after completing sentence they don’t come out repeat 1-5

Poachers and arsonists. Sounds like responsible people to me. Scramble radio and phone signals there. No one in, no one out. Spike every road passable out of there, wire and monitor the area, and when they do come out, charge them for every single dime of taxpayer money wasted on this. Also, freeze their access to their bank accounts. Charge anybody sending them money or supplies with material support of domestic terrorism. Go back through their communications, lean on their families hard. Makes sure they get every regulatory and benefits audit imaginable. Surround the facility with signal jammers, but send in Court documents detailing what their supporters are going through on the outside. Let nobody in, but announce over loudspeaker that the first five to come out and testify against the rest will be allowed to cut a deal sparing them the worst consequences.

They get an F in Strategic Placement. They may have supplies, but I bet these woosies have never spent more than a few days roughing it in the wilderness. Cut the power. Block access. And wait for a white flag.

Concur. Only I’d add that if any of them try to get out cross-country then call down some troops from Joint Base Lewis-McCord. We’ve got Stryker units there that could use some practice running down technicals and dismounts. [evil grin]

re: #91 Targetpractice

That’s exactly the wrong talk right now. You want to neuter these nutters, cut them off from access to the outside world and let them stew in their own filth for a few days. Blowing them up is excessive in the extreme and will, no matter how much we don’t view them as such, make them into martyrs for their screwed up “cause.”

The feds can use any assets these idiots have to clean up after they’ve stewed there for a while. I’ll bet they won’t clean up after themselves.

Targetpractice  Jan 2, 2016 • 8:07:49pm

Until they turn violent, any talk about blowing them or in any way trying to remove them through violence is horrendously stupid. Right now, they’re just a bunch of morons holed up on federal land. You take violent action against them that is not in any way preceded by violence on their part and you lend credibility to every bit of shit they say about “government tyranny” and a “police state.” Better to lock the place down, police any who try to enter or leave, and slap them all with bills for the damage done when they eventually give up.

It’s quite telling. BLM activists upset at police brutality = inciting violence against the cops. Actual violence against law enforcement by right wing assholes, crickets.

It’s a lot easier to cover a protest in downtown Chicago than it is to to cover one in Backside-of-Nowhere, Oregon.

There were about 300ish (probably less) in Burns, OR, for a rally to support the Hammonds, who are going to prison on Monday. After the rally ended, the Bundys, Ritzheimer and some others hived off to go down to Malheur NWR to take it over. It sounds like they had been planning this for a while.

The people we send missiles after… it’s because they’re in places we can’t just drive in and deal with in person. Because we have no jurisdiction to make arrests (because it’s not American territory) and they’re physically difficult and/or life-threateningly difficult to get to.

We don’t send million-dollar missiles just to save a tank of gas and some overtime pay.

My initial comment about a hellfire was said mostly in jest. These idiots always talk about how they have to have their guns in order to defend against the “tyranny” of the government. So my comment was made as a means of showing just how much those guns would protect them in a case like that.

However, it devolved into other tangents and my biggest gripe with where it went was this talk of martyrs. No matter what the government does to them they will become martyrs to their cause. It doesn’t matter if it’s in death or with them in prison. They will be looked at as being wrongly persecuted by the government. And if we ignore them because of that fear they become emboldened to do more. As far as I know there have been no legal repercussions against the Bundy ranch morons and now they’ve progressed to this.

Bat. Shit. Crazy.

There is or was a small ranch where the feds have had this weird standoff with the family for many years. Children raised in that hopelessly distorted and tightly contained environment. 60 minutes had a big report. Can’t remember the details. Ruby Ridge (FBI agent takes the 5th) and the Davidian firefight has had a chilling effect on the government response to domestic terrorism IMHO.
When it gets terribly violent the police or government rarely come out looking good. Fairly sometimes yet often unfairly. Janet Reno and the Cuban kid. That was a tough moment turned into a circus. The Patty Hearst SLA thing. The time the police bomb squad built a bomb and used a helicopter to drop it on some holdouts. Burned down a bunch of homes.

It sucks to see the Bundy militia snipers face zero consequences. Patience over crisis. What would the hurry be?

re: #179 rhuarc

See you have the same problem these militia guys seem to. A penchant for violent impulses. The healthy response is de escalating. Pending violence from these guys, they start shooting and a lot changes.

What we don’t do is indulge a violent pride and break every rule to bomb small town criminals pretending they are Daesh leadership in a war zone.

I think most lizards share your frustration, but RWC is pretty much right, there’s not really a way for the Feds to take strong-arm action here without it being viewed negatively. Especially when those who are under the billy club are white and of privilege, allowing them to argue that their “grievances” are legitimate to a media which wants to perpetuate the idea that white folks are the only “true” victims of over-militarized police.

If these nutters were black or Muslim, the coverage would be wall-to-wall and we’d be getting all sorts of shit about how they’re thugs/terrorists/etc. But they’re white, so it won’t become newsworthy unless it drags on for awhile or until one of the nutters gets injured, at which point the media will fight each other to be the first to allow them tell “their side of the story” and bring on self-important jackasses to opine at length about how wrong it is that the federal government owns any land and how perhaps the Hammonds have a legitimate beef that needs to be “reexamined” in light of the government’s “overreach.”

Thing is, unless these morons get violent, I think we should prepare for more disappointment. The odds of prosecutors being willing to charge every single participant are slim, with worry over public sentiment playing against them being a major motivator to just give most involved a slap on the wrist or a pat on the bum to head home. Those they figure they can get concrete charges against will probably face low-grade felonies that will be dropped to misdemeanors on a plea deal (can’t have their guns taken away, lest they scream “tyranny!”), with jail terms turning into probation and fines going unpaid.

Yet another shooting in Colorado Springs.

I think this is the 3rd mass shooting there in 4-5 months.

Won’t make news outside of Colorado since no one died or sustained life-threatening injuries. I’m not trying to be callous, but I know the news media well enough to know that none-fatal shootings don’t go national unless there’s some other angle. Though the idea that this was a drive-by is odd. You don’t see those often in lower-crime areas.

Now, but it seems Colorado Springs’ problems are getting worse.

3 mass shootings in 4 months is alarming.

Especially since, as near as I can tell, most, if not all, of the mass shootings since last year happened in unique cities.

With Colorado Springs being the exception.

That’s something a Predator or Reaper drone could verify by using thermal imaging to give an accurate read of the number of nutters by counting their heat signatures. And it would be perfectly legal, since they have no right to privacy while illegally occupying federal property.

In the United states proper, the military can fly Predator, Reaper, or any other type of drone ONLY over military bases, military land, or military reservations per Act of Congress!

I don’t think some of you understand. These idiots picked the wrong time of year and place to pull this shit. The Refuge Headquarters is over 40 miles from Burns and the Frenchglen fire station is at least another 15 miles further out. There is nothing but a few isolated ranch houses in this area. The desert terrain in this area consists of nothing but sagebrush and very rocky bluffs and ridges. These dunderheads are staging their “rebellion” out in the middle of the remotest part of Oregon. Hell, even the coyotes have to pack a lunch when they travel.

This is the perfect location for the Feds to sit and wait. Only one road to and from the area to block to prevent resupply. One powerline to shut down to eliminate electricity. I doubt there is a cell tower in the area and if there is it can be easily shut off. Otherwise there is sure to be a land line which will also be easy to cut off. Plus, looking at the videos there is plenty of snow in the area which, along with the terrain, will prevent any cross-country supply.

Add in the sub-zero temps and wind chill factors along with snow on the ground and this place is going to be a very miserable place to be.

Complete isolation.

Just sit and wait. These assholes won’t last long in this enviroment.

So, I wake up and lo and behold, I see domestic terrorists have seized a small Federal building in southern, rural Oregon and apparently, they want a fight.

They want a fight? Okeydokey.

- Law enforcement establishes a perimeter around the area. No one in or out.
- Power is shut off.
- Water is shut off.
- Communications shut off (jammers, disconnect landline, etc.)
- Draw up RICO charges against Ammon Bundy, Mr. Payne, etc.
- Freeze their bank accounts, seize properties, assets, etc.
- Wait them out.

It won’t take too long I figure before they come out. And when they do, arrest them and charge them with domestic terrorism, armed insurrection and whatnot in addition to the RICO charges. Throw the book at ‘em…..and do it all nice and legal, without resorting to force.

My concern is this; these yahoos may decide to up the ante and their supporters (and I’m quite sure they do have supporters in Burns) may try to make a move against the city of Burns - arrest the mayor and city council, the sheriff, things like that. I hate to say it, but that wouldn’t really shock me. I have a feeling that something along these lines has been planned for a long, long time……and now they’ve found the place where they can put their revolutionary theory into practice. They’ve been looking for some incident to try it; the powder keg has been searching for a spark - and they may have found it.

I genuinely hope I’m wrong on that bit of speculation.

Relatives have to “deal” with the participants of the protest in Vienna against repressions in Chechnya, said the head of the republic, Ramzan Kadyrov.

“We have a custom - the brother is responsible for his brother. I’ve given an instruction to find out if they have a brother, a father, their teip [family group, “tribe”], where they come from, and what they are. Why did they allow themselves to speak about the leadership of the republic and of the people? Do they know that we will use all the resources: the law, traditions and religion. Then we will tell (the family members) to deal with their own relatives. If they do not take a decision, then we will demand it.”- Kadyrov said at a press-conference on December 28.

So, in taking a gander at Ammon Bundy’s FB feed (and the Bundy Ranch FB as well), I certainly hope that someone in LE is planning on establishing a perimeter PDQ. There’s definitely a few nutcases that seem to be willing to travel to the Malheur station to side with Bundy and his militia ilk. On the other hand, there’s quite a few comments as from posters to the effect they’d love to join up, but they don’t have the $$$ to do it right now.

In any event, I would hope that local (or state) LE is prepared in case some of these loons show up. Most likely, they’ll show up armed.

In all seriousness, something like this could blow up big time if it’s not handled properly. There’s far too many RWNJ’s spoiling for a fight - and more than a few are quite open about wishing to spark a second American Civil War. Granted, they’re a tiny minority, but look at the damage a tiny minority can do…..and by that, I mean Islamic State. I suspect the feds are aware of the powderkeg that could blow up if they bungle their response. As it is, these would-be revolutionaries have picked a really remote HQ for a potential standoff. Any reinforcements have only one access road, and approach overland is unlikely, given the terrain. In other words, these yokels have made it easy for the feds to seal them up and wait for them to give up.

Yeah, these fools didn’t think this out, at least in regard to their “HQ”, that’s for sure. Maybe they’re counting on other armed militia groups to come their aid and give them some backup, but as you pointed out, any would-be reinforcements have only one access road and the surrounding terrain would make it very difficult to approach Malheur station.

Apparently, contrary to Ammon Bundy’s assertions, there’s really only about 15 or so of these knuckleheads up there. Better to just seal the surrounding area, cut off the water and power, allow no supplies in or out, and wait them out. That being said, these types are usually somewhat prepared; I think it’s a safe bet to reckon they have MRE’s, potable water, propane canisters/propane stoves and fuel for generators to last them for some time.

Anthrax - Milk (Ode to Billy)

I woke up, can’t wait to eat
Got my cereal by was I beat
Opened the fridge and to my dismay
There was no milk, my mother will pay

I want some milk! My coffee grows cold
I want some milk! I should’ve been told
Bridge I wish I had some Goddamn milk
Too bad the milkman never came

I can’t go, out to the store
I’ll just wait ‘till mommy buys more
I’ll just have wheat thins and beer
If I get kick the toilet is near

Since it is Sunday:
A new priest at his first mass was so nervous he could hardly speak.

After mass he asked the monsignor how he had done.

The monsignor replied, “When I am worried about getting nervous on the pulpit, I put a glass of vodka next to the water glass. if I start to get nervous, I take a sip.”

So next Sunday he took the monsignor’s advice. At the beginning of the sermon, he got nervous and took a drink. He proceeded to talk up a storm.

Upon his return to his office after mass, he found the following note on the door:

1. Sip the Vodka, don’t gulp.
2. There are 10 commandments, not 12.
3. There are 12 disciples, not 10.
4. Jesus was consecrated, not constipated.
5. Jacob wagered his donkey, he did not bet his ass.
6. We do not refer to Jesus Christ as the late J. C.
7. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not referred to as Daddy, Junior and the Spook.
8. David slew Goliath, he did not kick the **** out of him.
9. When David was hit by a rock and was knocked off his donkey, don’t say he was stoned off his ass.
10. We do not refer to the cross as the “Big T.”
11. When Jesus broke the bread at the Last Supper he said, “Take this and eat it for it is my body.” He did not say “Eat me”
12. The Virgin Mary is not called “Mary with the Cherry,”
13. The recommended grace before a meal is not: Rub-A-Dub-Dub thanks for the grub, yeah God.
14. Next Sunday there will be a taffy pulling contest at St. Peter’s, not a Peter pulling contest at St. Taffy’s!

The actual response is irrelevant to these domestic terrorists, and to the chances of more domestic terrorism. Heavy-handed responses don’t limit terrorism, as we have seen all over the world. Enabling it by having no consequences at all, as there were from the Bundy ranch, doesn’t do anything to stop it either obviously.

The continuing problem is that there are constant sources of radicalisation, and that fresh terrorists are constantly generated from these sources. In the Islamic world, there are always more videos, always more disenfranchised young men, always more demagogues. In the US, there is always more FOX, always more talk radio, always more demagogues. It is the media and information they consume that produces terrorists, not the government response. Just like conspiracy theories where facts don’t matter (and only strengthen belief), terrorism is a phenomenon of brainwashing.

White domestic terrorists like these are created the same way as Islamic ones. They are brainwashed by FOX, enabled by a complicit media, reinforced by their social contacts with like-minded individuals, and equipped by freely available weapons of war.

That one is a border-specific case and would have happened no matter how well national police reform did. The cartels have an immense amount of money and once they get their hooks in its a “silver or lead” policy: They do not permit anyone in a police department they corrupt to refuse their bribes and any such honest officers are either run off in an often-literal hail of gunfire or shot dead. Hence “silver or lead” meaning either take the bribe or take gunfire.

I don’t see that there’s a functional difference between politics and religion in the case of terrorism in general, nor in this in specific. Right-wing Conservatism in America is a religion in any case, or more specifically, a cult. Its belief structure and catechisms are indistinguishable from any fundamentalist religion.

On Saturday, members of the militia attended a demonstration in Burns that had gathered to protest the Hammonds’ case. After the protest, the militiamen drove to the wildlife refuge and took it over.

It seems that the militiamen may have initially planned to seize the wildlife refuge headquarters in order to establish a “sanctuary” where the Hammonds could go to evade prison.

As Ammon Bundy sees it, the locals are “not strong enough” to stand up for themselves, so the militia must act as the “tip of the spear” and lead the fight on behalf of the locals.

Now where have I heard that idea before?

Right wing extremists trespass and violate all manner of federal and state law. GOP law and order types can’t be reached for comment.

The same right wingers who were calling for police to put a beatdown on black lives matter protesters peacefully protesting in the streets, the same right wingers who were saying how teargassing protesters was acceptable. They are MIA on condemning these right wing fanatics who have taken over an Oregon NWR.

This is yet another symptom of all that’s wrong with the GOP. They’ve spent years whining about the federal government and how their rights are being trampled, and yet these same right wingers are trampling over our federal lands. We saw this with the Bundy ranchers. We see it again here. They have no respect for our federal lands, which are held in trust for all Americans. They are entitled bullies who think that being heavily armed gives them more rights than everyone else around them.

They are common thugs who deserve to feel the weight of the justice system come down on them hard.

I don’t see that there’s a functional difference between politics and religion in the case of terrorism in general, nor in this in specific. Right-wing Conservatism in America is a religion in any case, or more specifically, a cult. Its belief structure and catechisms are indistinguishable from any fundamentalist religion.

As I posted before—When I talk to my friends who left the USSR in the 80s, they will tell you that there is NO difference between the USSR Communist Party and the Republican Party. Both are committed to a society where a tiny elite dominates and manipulates everyone else.

Anyone who supports these terrorists should be raked over the coals. They’ve threatened law enforcement and are engaging in illegal activities. If any Republican Presidential candidate supports them, he/she is a terrorist sympathizer and should be called out for encouraging lawlessness.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Daddy Cruz leading a prayer chain for these thugs.

My thought was to block the roads, then turn off the power and water. They claim to have generators, but the fuel won’t last forever. And without water, I suspect the place wouldn’t be habitable for long.

They are likely aware of that. I suspect they want more militia types to come in and “occupy” the town and local area with the federal wildlife refuge building as a symbolic hdqtrs.

For me, the nightmare scenario would be if this group’s sympathizers (and they have them, not let’s not kid ourselves) pulled something like arresting the mayor of Burns, the city council, the sheriff/police force of Burns and put them “on trial” under some kind of Sovereign Citizen nonsense and effectively seized control of the town. They’d be removed, to be sure, but it would likely devolve into quite the bloody affair at that point.

And there’s far too many of these RWNJ’s that would love to try do something just like that.

Or flat-out insurrection.

Even if their call for so-called patriots to come to their aid in Burns is not possible, there are plenty of over-armed wingnuts that might be willing to do the same in their own locations.

The government should not have let the Bunkerville standoff go without arrests. Even my very conservative-leaning wife noted that was a mistake and all it would do would be to embolden them.

Since there seems to be no way out of making them martyrs in their own (and their supporters’) minds, I think the only solution here is to try and capture them alive (cut off electricity and water, &c), and let them rot in prison for the rest of their lives.

And again I say just block the road with M1117 Armored Security Vehicles* (It’s federal land so the way for the president to bring in military vehicles and crew for containment at least is fairly clear and he can do it with his “phone and pen combo”) and leave ‘em up there.

The winter cold is the government’s friend in this matter and a low cost siege is the best option. Coincidentally, blocking the road also keeps Sean Hannity’s producers away from the site, this denying the militia media facetime and thus minimizing their appeal.

*: Not MRAPs, because MRAPs’ high center of gravity makes them too prone to tipping over on icy mountain roads.

Mental health break (or was it broken):

Little mermaid too naked for Facebook

Rules to display naked skin in this are tough. Maybe a bit too tough. I think in any case, the Social Democratic politician in Denmark, Mette Gjerskov, after the social media refused her to upload a picture of the famous statue “The Little Mermaid”.

Rules to display naked skin in this are tough. Maybe a bit too tough. I think in any case, the Social Democratic politician in Denmark, Mette Gjerskov, after the social media refused her to upload a picture of the famous statue “The Little Mermaid”.

It was when Gjerskov would publish a link to his blog, where a picture of the statue was, she got the message from Facebook that the picture violated the site rules. This time it contained “too much naked skin or sexual undertones,” wrote Ekstra Bladet.

- It is absolutely ridiculous that the denial of a post with a picture of Denmark’s national treasure. There is the question of a little skin on a statue in Copenhagen harbor, says Mette Gjerskov to the newspaper.

“The Little Mermaid”, as the bronze statue called in Danish, is created by Edvard Eriksen and erected at Langelinie in Copenhagen 1913th

There’s an easy solution to the militia boys. Shoot one who is pointing his gun at federal officers. Just one. Release a statement saying that a sniper saw him release his safety and felt an officer was in imminent danger. Offer reduced charges to anyone else who surrenders. Cut off all access, electricity, water, cell tower signals, and media. Then wait.

No need to give them a microphone or hear their complaints. That’s why we have CNN.

I wonder of Obama woke up to this morning’s briefing and did the “Aw Geez Not This Shit Again” meme face.

It’s not a good position to be in, because any heavy-handed response will give these hate-addled shitbirds a cause. I’ve been saying if Hillary wins we’re going to be seeing this times 20, and these guys are just getting an early start, but that doesn’t mean provoking the war now.

On the other hand, I feel like if armed losers want to join their little gun-in, let them. Provide free transportation for anybody going IN. Don’t let anybody come OUT. I feel this way about ISIS too. Want to go join them? Here’s a free plane ticket, we’d like you all in one place for the cleanup.

It really wouldn’t take much for this to end like Waco. As much as I’d like to see this lunatic fringe Cleansed from the Earth to Bother Us No More, and as much as that would show equal treatment under the law vs. people of color being killed for a tenth as much, it might be less bloody for everybody in the long run to just starve these losers out and throw the book at them when they quit.

Federal forest policy? Yeah, the terrorists who seized the NWR are supporting convicted arsonists and poachers. They seized the NWR by being heavily armed and claim a willingness to use it.

They oppose federal law and jurisdiction, just as they opposed federal BLM treatment of the Bundy’s, who continued to trespass on federal land and illegally grazing their herd on federal land.

I remember all too well the Prop H8te campaign when my girlfriend and I were insulted by a pair of Mormon Missionaires pushing their hatred of gays and lesbians. We told them that we remembered how Mormon doctrine stated that my girlfriend who just happens to be black was considered for years to be racially inferior. It isn’t really, but to be fair to the Bundys they don’t have the Neo-Confederate orientation of many wingnuts. The historical Mormon grievance against federal authority is entirely unrelated to the Neo-Confederate one, and some of the people who persecuted the early Mormons in Missouri were themselves small-scale slaveholders.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has never been a friend of Southern separatism.

Carly Fiorina, the Republican presidential hopeful who wrote Friday on social media that she was supporting the University of Iowa in the Rose Bowl over Stanford University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree, said Sunday that the post “was a tongue-in-cheek tweet.”

“Love my alma mater, but rooting for a Hawkeyes win today,” Fiorina said in the Twitter missive, which was retweeted almost 1,000 times.

“Oh for heaven’s sakes, can’t a girl ever have a little bit of fun?” the former Hewlett-Packard chief executive said on CNN’s ”State of the Union.”

“People in Iowa understand,” she added when asked if she was merely pandering to the state that will hold the nation’s first presidential nomination event on Feb. 1. “They knew that my heart was torn.”

Not just Abrahamic religions, to be fair. Some schools of Buddhism can be, let’s say, rather discriminatory. The mellowest one I know, from personal experience, is the unique sect founded by Shinran in the late 13th century - Jodo Shinshu, a sect of Pure Land Buddhism. Anyway, the point is, unless one is willing to call Islam, Judaism and the rest of Christianity cults on the same basis, one is being inconsistent. True, the LDS version of Mormonism is relatively centralized, but within there are plenty of diverse views, including on LGBT issues.

Oh man. One of my crazy uncles was playing a video by some jabbering RWNJ lunatic about Obama and guns the other day. It was filled with Obama’s coming for yer gunz! Don’t let Child Protective Services into yer home! Eleventy! derp. It’s amazing how much bullshit these nutters can fit into a four minute video rant.

When you insult their power structures, asshole “prophets” and whatnot, it’s one thing. When you discriminate against a religion as a whole, I don’t see how it is different from the same thing people do to Islam. Anyway, all Abrahamic religions sprung up from deeply misogynist, homophobic and racist roots.

Because he didn’t call for the deportation or the execution of Mormons.

I’d let them sit there, but cut off their power, water, roads, internet, phones, assets, and airspace while they waited.

Give them one exit, and that exit involves surrendering to the feds.

Can’t do that, of course, because it would be cruel and these guys mean no harm. They’re just misguided children, we must let them get it all out of their system and then they’ll go right on home and we’ll clean up after them.

Now if they were black folks or Muslims, we’d have surrounded the place with riot police, kicked down the doors, and dragged them out by the hair. But hey, those thugs/terrorists are breaking the law and that’s not the way to bring attention to their cause.

re: #608 Camacho DeezNuts 2016

They’re actually looting federal lands. In this case, the guys they’re ‘defending’ in protest lit fed lands on fire. Like fire, the kind the burns.

But that bastion of impartial/objective news reporting, AP, described it:

Dwight Hammond, 73, and Steven Hammond, 46, said they lit the fires in 2001 and 2006 to reduce the growth of invasive plants and protect their property from wildfires.

The two were convicted of the arsons three years ago and served time — the father three months, the son one year. But a judge ruled their terms were too short under federal law and ordered them back to prison for about four years each.

No mention of the actual mandatory minimum sentence, the rest of the allegations, the various stages of judicial review—just “a judge ruled their terms were too short.”

They (AP) probably didn’t have enough time/space to go into detail. However, they did see fit to add this little gem about what happened after the “patriots” threw money at the courthouse:

After the march passed, two girls swooped in to scavenge the pennies.

They SCAVENGED those pennies, folks.

Spit.

Still trying to get my head around the asinine concept of armed men being peaceful, not a threat.

Not an act of war, treason, or sedition. Just a ‘peaceful protest’ where they talk of dying.

There is a group of us who started out tracking birthers back in 2009, then as that quieted down, we took up militias and sovereign citizens. So we’ve been onto the Hammond/Bundy thing for a while. We’ve collected a bunch of background information and are gathering videos as they get posted on YouTube/Facebook. You’re welcome to come by and browse.
