I just watched “The Act of Killing.” It is a documentary about a group of thugs who were involved in the mass killing of communists in Indonesia (and random ethnic Chinese) after the military took charge of the government in 1965. They “only” killed a few hundred or thousand themselves, but the purge took something like 2.5 million lives across the country. It was directly aided by the CIA, but the film doesn’t focus on that fact. It is by far the most bizarre and disturbing doc I’ve seen in a very long time.

Wow, color me surprised Trump doesn’t use a teleprompter. Who could have guessed?

But he does in a way use a teleprompter. He uses it as a cheap stupid political dig on an opponent that he probably heard some other broke dick Republican use against Obama.

One thing for sure, The Donald™ is going to keep banging on his 10 same old topics and maybe add one or two as he goes. He reminds me of a very limited comedian. If you see the guy once you’ve heard all the good lines. After a short time they are no longer funny, creative, spontaneous and thus not able to hold any attention.

His method will work for a while, but I wonder if he will begin to run off people that have some brain power as he keeps going lower and lower for the bottom RWNJs that might never get out to vote.

Hey, he can get some cover for this kind of thinking from Trump. Just say it is a way to do business and is legal and available, so why not take advantage. But as soon as a good conservative gets in office that will all change.

It’s looking like even less of a win this time around. Back then, they at least got cattle back and got the BLM to back off on enforcing the court order.

Here? The only thing they seem to be getting is the opportunity to cover for their mistake by leaving quietly.

But they still haven’t been punished in any way for repeated, systematic violation of federal law, and the message is getting through that if you’re white and call yourself a “patrito,” you’re effectively above the law. I wish the Cohen brothers, or someone equally up to the project, would do a movie that just takes the militia type idiots down and makes them look so stupid they would be permanently be laughed at and mocked. And like I said downstairs, I don’t agree with that, I think someone needs to be held accountable, someone needs to be footing the bill for any damage done. But still, if all they get is to walk away without cuffs on, it’s not much of a win for the “revolution,” is it? What’s with the comment about me paying attention to memes? I have reviewed what has happened. The Bundy back and forth with the BLM has been an ongoing mess for over 20 years. It didn’t just happen last year. So in a sense it is just another day. Again, what did they win? They still owe the money, they still have court issues to deal with, just like they have for those past 20+ years. What happens when the old man dies? Could it be that all the federal judgments are taken care of out of the estate? Do the feds just take everything?

Do you also remember when Clive shot off his mouth about the “Negroes” he also shot himself in the foot and all the conservative media abandoned him and the whole Bundy thing died in the media until junior Bundys decided they would pull this trick.

How much have you been concerned about the Bundys getting away with all this and winning from about June last year until a few weeks ago?

I suggest that the Bundy idiots are not going to come out looking very good in this deal and will even end up a joke in the militia/patriot movement bullshit. They already are to a degree, you might be catching that if you are so familiar. How many politicians are rushing in yapping about all of this except in very general terms that make conservatives tingle when they hear the word “feds.”

Well, the media is basically giving these arsonist-supporting insurgent fuckheads a pass with soft language and clever tap-dancing around their religious and seditionist motivations.

However, we do get the invention of “Vanilla ISIS” and the mainstreaming of “Y’all Queda”. So that’s something.

No

I wish the Cohen brothers, or someone equally up to the project, would do a movie that just takes the militia type idiots down and makes them look so stupid they would be permanently be laughed at and mocked. Any attempt at trying to be serious thereafter would automatically make everyone remember the movie bits and never see an American Militia Patriot as anything but a joke ever again.

Quentin Tarantino style, please.

This whole mess is beginning to look like the Bundy Ranch, aka another piss poor excuse of a hill to die upon. These “patriots” sure do seem to have a habit of picking winners, don’t they?

How soon until the satire turns them into the “Bundy Bunch”?

Yeah, Ammon and his buddies will skirt the law again. But it’s diminishing returns by this point, nobody really takes this seriously, and even fewer will do so after they’ve been forced to leave the refuge with their tail between their legs. Who wants to rally around a dumbass who couldn’t take a hint when the people he was supposedly “fighting” for told him to leave?

re: #84 Targetpractice

And like I said downstairs, I don’t agree with that, I think someone needs to be held accountable, someone needs to be footing the bill for any damage done. But still, if all they get is to walk away without cuffs on, it’s not much of a win for the “revolution,” is it? It’s a bit like the colonists mustering at Concord, ready to fight the British over the arms stored there…and then the British never showed up.

Not just damage but kids missing out on school, adults missing work, all that. They need to minimally pay heavy fines, preferably do jail time.

Charles P. Pierce (with some info I was unfamiliar with on the Wise Use Movement): (bolding mine)

This is an act of armed sedition against lawful authority. That is all that it is, and that is quite enough. This is not “an expression of anti-government sentiment.”… This is not an “occupation” following “a peaceful protest.” That would be all those folks who got bludgeoned and pepper-sprayed out of Zuccotti Park a couple of years back. (And when exactly did ABC News decide it wasn’t a news organization anymore?)

These are men with guns who have declared themselves outside the law. These are men with guns who have taken something that belongs to all of us. These are traitors and thieves who got away with this dangerous nonsense once, and have been encouraged to get away with it again, and they draw their inspiration not solely from the wilder fringes of our politics, either. Ammon Bundy and his brothers should have been thrown in jail after they gathered themselves in rebellion the first time.

This is another step down the road that leads to the broken shell of the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City

It did not begin in Burns. It did not begin on the Bundy Ranch, either. In its most modern form, and in the form most relevant to recent events, it began, as so many noxious elements of our politics did, with the Reagan Administration. It began with a man named Ron Arnold, and a Secretary of the Interior named James Watt, and in something called the Wise Use movement…Its philosophy ran in poisoned tributaries to all points of the political compass until it gathered itself into a great reservoir of toxic fantasy, and that is where the essential compact of the United States of America was encouraged to break down.

It does us no good to deny that there is a substantial constituency for armed sedition in this country, and to deny the necessity of delegitimizing that constituency in our politics, and the first step in that process is to face it and to call it what it is.

And, in related news, of course, Tamir Rice is still dead.
