Planned Parenthood Endorses Hillary Clinton

Battle lines being drawn
Politics • Views: 44,059

In 2016, the lines between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party are being drawn very clearly; on the Republican side we have a slate of candidates who are completely in thrall to the religious right, and are willing to promote outright lies about women’s health to push this fanatical agenda. On the Democratic side, we have candidates who are standing up very strongly to keep the reproductive rights women fought so hard to achieve, and resist the right wing noise machine trying to roll back the progress of the past 50 years.

And today, the organization at Ground Zero of this battlefield, Planned Parenthood, announced that they’re endorsing Hillary Clinton.

“No other candidate in our nation’s history has demonstrated such a strong commitment to women or such a clear record on behalf of women’s health and rights,” Richards said in a statement. “This is about so much more than Planned Parenthood. Health care for an entire generation is at stake.”

Having endorsed, the group could spend campaign money on Clinton’s behalf, as well as mobilizing its large email list for the former secretary of state. It plans to spend at least $20 million on the presidential and Senate races, focusing on New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Nevada, the group said.

“As a lifelong Planned Parenthood supporter, I’m honored to have the endorsement of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund,” Clinton said. “There has never been a more important election when it comes to women’s health and reproductive rights — and Planned Parenthood’s patients, providers, and advocates across the country are a crucial line of defense against the dangerous agenda being advanced by every Republican candidate for president.”

Makes sense. Sanders record isn’t that much different if at all from hers on choice and women’s health but it’s been a bigger part of her agenda than his.

Yeah….not really surprising given what her priorities are.

But I don’t think PParenthood would be too upset if Sanders got the nomination (something a lot of folks share, from what I’m seeing).

Right. I think where Sanders and Clinton differ is on economics and thus their priories as well.

“These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty … these types of guys … they come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, they go back home,” LePage told a large crowd. “Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we have to deal with down the road.”

I think (FWIW) that an endorsement is based on who can deliver. I believe that Sanders is more than sincere in his pursuit of women’s health issues and choice, but Hillary Clinton is more likely to be able to deliver.

The governor isn’t talking about race, except when he explicitly mentions white women.

The Democrats represent twenty-first century society in this country. They are going to run roughshod over the Republican Party next year. I don’t think a 50 state sweep in the electoral college is completely impossible (though it is unlikely). It depends on which kook panderer the Republicans allow their deranged base to nominate. This is what they get for giving complete control of the process to a small but devoted mob of ignorant bigots and radio demagogues out in the darker reaches of flyover country.

God, this is so frustrating. If these guys were Black Lives Matter protestors, every available LEO in a 200 mile radius would have emptied every last bullet into the people there, and then burned the place to the fucking ground at this point.

And then you factor in the whole fact they apparently can come and go as they please?

I really think the only difference between this and NV 2014 is that Fox News isn’t whipping their core base of barely educated mouth breathers into a murderous frenzy this time.

The biggest danger to this country is the conservative/Republican party. Quick to anger; slow to think; utterly incapable of critical logic.

Yeah, I pretty much ignore movie stars’ extracurricular activities, unless they’re TOO egregious. We don’t pay them to think, to have opinions, to be wise. We pay them to entertain us. If they’re good enough at it, you don’t look at the screen and think, “And that asshole is a Scientologist!”

Given how Conservapedia hangs on to every word of Joseph Farah’s WorldNetDaily as newsworthy, it must have come as quite a surprise when somebody who is, theoretically, Schlafly’s target market lashed out at the project.[22] Farah described the project as “incredibly stupid and misguided”, “nutty”, a “trivialization and politicization of the Scriptures” and a “profoundly dangerous practice spiritually”. He also had a dig by referring to the authors, Andrew Schlafly and TerryH, as “conservatives” (using the inverted commas).
Schlafly’s response was to call Farah’s comments “over the top”,[23] and TerryH went one step further and drafted a long, rambling screed defending their actions. Armed with a pocket Greek dictionary and Google Translate, Terry concludes his reply by stating, “truth is truth and error is error. And in my determination not to let error stand, I yield to no man, no matter what his reputation or standing in anything that might be called ‘the conservative movement.’”[24]
Additionally, Chick Publications raised concerns about the CBP’s habit of removing verses from the translated Bible. In conclusion, their article asked the questions:

Do you think it’s important when 12 verses remove everything that happened to Jesus after His burial? Do you think it’s important if one missing word makes Jesus look like a liar? Do you think it’s important when one missing word (“God”) removes the doctrine of the Incarnation (God becoming a man) in a verse? Do y

ou think it’s important if the only verse countering infant baptism is removed?[25]
Creation Ministries, extensively cited as an authoritative source in numerous Conservapedia articles ranging from Creationism to Evolution, harshly criticizes the CBP:

Forcing the Bible to conform to a certain political agenda, no matter if one happens to agree with that agenda, is a perversion of the Word of God and should therefore be opposed by Christians as much as ‘politically correct’ Bibles.[26]

66
Nyet  Jan 7, 2016 • 4:02:51pm
For example, the KJV of Luke 11:53-4 reads:
“”And as he [Jesus] said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.
The Conservative Bible “translation” (done by Andy himself) reads:
“”As Jesus told them off, the scribes and Pharisees furiously interrogated Him about everything, plotting and seeking to quote Him for a politically incorrect remark to use against Him.[28]

I’m very familiar with conditions in flyover country. I said it was unlikely, but recent experience does not rule out the possibility. In particular, Romney, McCain, and even W. Bush were RINOs compared to the current crowd. Overall, Romney won the south by 54-46% in 2012, which is hardly an overwhelming margin. In the time since, the base has been purified, reduced to its pure, and purely vile, essence. Its numbers have declined accordingly even as its power within the party has become absolute. Given a series of gaffes by Cruz or Trump, only the hardest of the hard core will still be willing to vote for them. There may not be enough of them in even one state. I think the more likely split will still have the Dems above 450.

I have a pet notion about Tom Cruise that we hear stories about how “weird” he is precisely because we can’t believe that somebody can be what he appears to be: A good-looking, talented, capable guy who’s super-nice, easy to work with, enjoys his work, and is dedicated to his craft. The only place I’ve ever heard bad Cruise stories is in the tabloid media. Almost everybody who has encountered or worked with him personally has nothing but nice things to say. Occasionally goofy? Maybe, but who isn’t?

I mean, I wouldn’t be shocked if he unmasked himself as a carefully constructed alien android. But until then, I think he’s just what he looks like, and somehow we (collectively) can’t cope with that being natural. There must be some catch. He must be gay, or some kind of freak, underneath that movie star surface.

Incidentally I believe his family in Kentucky is pretty large and well established. I think his family (last name Mapother) has a multi-generational law firm near Louisville somewhere.

And who is buying that shit, LePage? Who are these local “white girls” welcoming these drug guys and why are they so happy to see them?

Addicts. It’s really out of control. And when I say “welcoming drug guys” I’m talking almost entirely about white men, because there are too few black men to be really significant. Lepage is an asshole and wrong. I look at the bust pictures when the Manchester, NH police do a big raid and out of 25-30 people you’ll see one or two non-white faces. But they’re the problem.

ETA: of course there is an element of truth to what Lepage has said. It’s been documented that drugs are indeed coming from NY and Mass and quite a bit from gangs; part of the deal is not in money but in barter for guns in NH. And these aren’t white gangs.

Yes, Oblivion is quite good. I never liked Cruise’s touchy-freely movies but man, he does action really well.

I have a co-worker (let’s call him Sean) who used to work for NASA, and he tells a great story about how Tom Cruise (and Penelope Cruz, as they were dating at the time) visited his office for a demo, presumably for research for one of his films (maybe War of the Worlds?)

Anyway, Cruise’s representatives apparently warned Sean and everyone else that was to meet with him with all of the usual Hollywood prima donna bullshit: don’t speak unless spoken to, don’t look him in the eye, no pictures, etc. They were prepared for the worst, essentially.

However, apparently Tom & co. were nothing but nice, and it was a fun visit, and they were genuinely interested in the work that was being done. None of the bullshit rules they were given needed to be followed. Apparently, at some point, Sean was demonstrating something to Penelope on a computer, who sat down on his lap to get a better view. Sean thought Cruise was going to murder him for sure, when he noticed — but he simply didn’t care.

This is why I take most “celebrity asshole” reports with a huge grain of salt.

That’s true. I’ve heard he was mis-cast, to say the least.

I also can’t get around this feeling of self-consciousness in his acting, like he’s communicating to the audience, “Hi, I’m Tom Cruise, playing Tom Cruise. Aren’t I great? Thank you for watching this Tom Cruise vehicle.”

The most creepy stuff about Cruise is Scientology-related.

It was reported that Cruise’s anti-psychiatry actions led to a rift with director Steven Spielberg.[95] Spielberg had reportedly mentioned in Cruise’s presence the name of a doctor friend who prescribed psychiatric medication. Shortly thereafter, the doctor’s office was picketed by Scientologists, reportedly angering Spielberg.[96]

[…]

In the film, Cruise’s former auditor Marty Rathbun claims that wife Nicole Kidman was wiretapped on Tom Cruise’s suggestion (which Cruise’s lawyer denies).[108][109]

Good introspection.

I used to hang around anti-scn IRC channels around 1999/2000, when colorful personages like Bob Minton, Keith Henson, Arnie Lerma were there. It was later that I understood that behavior of some critics was both cultic and unethical.
