GOHMERT! Louie Wanted to Start Bombing Iran Over Those Captured Sailors, Because of Course He Did

When Iran briefly detained some Navy sailors yesterday after their boats accidentally entered Iranian waters, the entire right wing universe started blustering and threatening and pounding their chests. Because this is what they do.

But because President Obama has improved the United States’ diplomatic relations with Iran, and the screaming threatening right wingers aren’t in control, the situation didn’t escalate into a standoff and this morning the sailors were released unharmed.

MSNBC’s right wing host Joe Scarborough had a pretty typical wingnut response:

But Louie “Terror Babies” Gohmert really captured the essence of right wing derangement by going on far right NRA shill Dana Loesch’s show and saying we shouldn’t have talked to Iran at all. Instead, we should have immediately started destroying Iran’s naval fleet.

“When our Navy ships have problems, we don’t call Iran,” Gohmert blustered, “we call the rest of the Navy, we can call the Air Force, the Army, the Marines, the Coast Guard. We don’t call Iran!”

“For the Iranians to even issue a statement at all saying, ‘We are going to release them soon,’ tells you that they control whether or not they can leave,” he continued. “That situation should not be allowed to happen … We should demand that Iran let these people go, our Navy men or women, whatever they are, let them go or we’re going to start taking your ships out one at a time.”

So now that the situation is defused and the sailors have been released after only one day in Iran’s custody, are these right wing hacks apologizing for jumping the gun?

Of course not, silly!

Anybody else catching any RWNJ conspiracies about the Iranian thing being a set up? Something about the navy guys all having passports on them when normally they wouldn’t?

I have an ex-Navy neocon going nuts on his facebook page about it with a few of his former mates agreeing with him.

And there it is, right out in the open. The GOP doesn’t actually want to SOLVE problems. They just want to scream loudly, wave their dicks around and intimidate everyone into doing what they want. Nevermind that Obama and the adults in charge actually Get Shit Done without having to spend trillions on yet another pointless, endless war in the Middle East.

Kinda puts the whole Oregon standoff into perspective, doesn’t it?

Joe Scarborough is a knob. How people think he’s some kind of sane right-winger is beyond me.

And fuck him for taking someone’s personal tragedy and using it as a cheap talking point to promote the insane idea of declaring war over a minor diplomatic wrinkle THAT WAS AMICABLY RESOLVED WITHIN 24 HOURS.

Jesus. When the RWNJs start going all “Dolchstoss!” on the military for not conforming to their deranged narrative, I think that a violent outburst on the order of Oklahoma City/Murrah Building is closer than we think…

This is just another manifestation of the Republican ideal that the sovereignty of other nations does not apply to American interests.

Guess what? Our dudes violated Iran’s borders. The Iranians had every right to detain them. They should have detained them; international law (as with many other things) is very use-it-or-lose-it. The depressing thing is that if a couple of Cuban Navy boats accidentally did this, they’d be lucky if we didn’t just blow them up.

This was 100% by the book! After the initial error, perfect execution by all involved! Why are we shouting about it?

I gather that the GOP thinks we can just say “fuck it!” and enter territorial waters or airspace of any country by threatening to bomb them if they refuse or protest.

Iran is a sovereign nation and has every right to detain anybody entering their territory. We sure as hell retain that right. Iran IS NOT NORTH KOREA (see USS PUEBLO incident)and did not harm our people or hold them any longer than it took to verify it was an accident. They even promptly released the boats.

I wonder if we have been so civilized about it had the roles been reversed.

Curiously the right wing seems to have ignored that the Iranians basically shut down their Arak nuclear reactor by pouring concrete into the thing.

Iran has removed the core of its Arak heavy-water nuclear reactor and filled it with cement, according to the country’s Fars news agency.

The fate of the reactor was one of the toughest sticking points in Iran’s long nuclear negotiations last year.

Under the terms of the deal, Iran agreed the heavy-water reactor would be reconfigured so it was not capable of yielding material for a nuclear weapon.

The removal of the core is one of the final steps required by the deal.

As a heavy water reactor, the Arak reactor was able to produce quantities of plutonium because uranium would be converted to plutonium in the fission reactions.

By switching to a light water reactor system, far less plutonium is created.

The GOP would rather ignore all this. #FactFreeGOP

Mr. Pop said. “I learned things that I still use today. I met the Beatles and the Stones, and this one and that one, and this actress and this actor and all these powerful people through him. And I watched. And every once in a while, now at least, I’m a little less rustic when I have to deal with those people.”

Mr. Bowie made a point of visiting Mr. Pop’s parents in Detroit, where they were living in a trailer. “He came to my parents’ trailer, and the neighbors were so frightened of the car and the bodyguard they called the police,” Mr. Pop said. “My father’s a very wonderful man, and he said, ‘Thank you for what you’re doing for my son.’ I thought: Shut up, Dad. You’re making me look uncool.”

The RWNJs are flailing around because their precious war fantasies with Iran are dead. Netanyahu was powerless to stop Iran detente, and Saudi Arabia’s mass beheading of political dissidents wasn’t enough to goad Iran into external violence (though it gave us the nauseating spectacle of neocons like Max Boot who once waxed poetic about democracy in Iraq telling us to “stand with” a medieval Islamic theocracy that engages is mass executions of political prisoners).

So now this nothingburger is all they have. It’s pathetic. It’s amazing how for some, war is the natural state of things, and we must always be striving for maximal belligerence towards the world. I thought ideas like that died out with divine right of kings, but apparently not on the US right.

It was a couple of phone calls, back and forth between Kerry and the Iranians, but the result was still our sailors and their boats being released exactly as the Iranians said they’d do - without the drama the GOP wanted.

It was a mechanical problem that set this in motion, and the Iranians adhered to the law of the seas and protecting their territorial integrity against the incursion by an armed boat. When they figured out what was going on, they allowed the boat to proceed back without further delay or incident.

Only the GOP would find fault with any of this.

Exactly if they were an explicitly friendly nation then maybe no detention or maybe a little friendlier but as it is it doesn’t sound like they did anything wrong. And that applies to our guys who either made a mistake or had a mechanical issue (I know we’ve heard mechanical but it’s little too early to be sure and not a huge issue either way) and the Iranians who do not appear to have done anything wrong except that they didn’t bow their knees to the all powerful Americans which as I’m a soldier if they want to do I’m not going to object but can’t really expect that ya know. It’s just so pathetic how have we allowed this idiotic infection to creep into so many of our citizens. I have seen it on FaceBook from a friend that is disabled and has bought into all the right wing crap and it’s disheartening and pathetic for anyone in a position of leadership to be doing the same thing.

No they think it is because they haven’t actually lived it. The promulgators of the policies probably never expect to encounter negative repercussions from any policy they have become courtiers living in a world where the only thing that is real is there own insular little world which works until external reality comes knocking hard at the door. The supporters for the most part also live in a fantasy world where war and chaos won’t hurt them and are apparently happening to us anyway we just aren’t responding. Absolutely. I am sorry but the right’s reaction just shows you the double standard that many especially right wing Americans have of our country. I am glad the sailors were released without harm but if we can’t understand why the Iranians had a problem with them being in their waters, we’re being pigheaded and we should be happy that Kerry got them released so quickly rather than this bitching about how they were “humiliated.” What’s humiliating honestly is being an American and going overseas and having to tell people that attitude does not represent your beliefs.

I said this downstairs, but I honestly think this was handled so well that you could probably say the incident improved relations for both sides. Both sides saw each other at their best. A few dozen rank-and-file folks can tell all their service friends about “Oh, yeah, I was involved with this goof-up with the [other side] and they’re not so bad, we both de-escalated like professionals, no harm, no foul”.

That’s immensely powerful. Nothing warms a frosty relationship like peaceful face-time with the other guy.

Territorial waters. If a foreign country’s ship - an armed one at that - enters and the intent isn’t clear, the sovereign nation controlling that water has a right to figure out the ship’s intent, including boarding - to determine if there’s innocent passage involved. The waters involved also involve an Iranian naval base, so they can suspend the innocent passage rules. Once it was determined that the US boat had mechanical problems, the Iranian posture was one conforming the law of the seas- allowing prompt transit out of the Iranian waters.

We see other countries demanding control of their territorial waters and threatening force (or showing force, depending on who was involved). We saw it with Sweden repeatedly going after the Russians for sending subs into their waters. We see it with China claiming territorial waters in and around the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea - along with Vietnam, Philippines, and other countries.

The same right wingers who complain when a Russian or Chinese boat or plane gets too close to our ships or planes in international waters are now complaining about our boat that everyone acknowledges as having entered Iranian waters being stopped.

COMEDY ALERT!!!!!

Dreher has a post up featuring a song for The Benedict Option folks convinced we are headed into another Dark Ages of repression and spiritual death!

Feast your eyes on this emo treasure of tormented longing!

IN THE NEW DARK AGE (the only lamp burning bright is you)

All the dominoes fell
we went under a spell
and all hell. broke. loose.
Everything you held dear
when the dust finally cleared
it was just as you feared

Chorus:
In the new dark age
Nobody puts up a fight
In the new dark age
You’ll see no flares in the night
The only lamp burning bright…is you

All the mask came off
All disguises were dropped
The game was declared over
Love was escorted out
There was hardly a shout
I’ll take the crimson & clover

We’re all mystics & freaks
With the spirit beneath
Deeper than any ocean
Let the string section “riff”
Seal it up with a kiss
Honey, we are all golden

In the new dark age
no one trusts anyone
In the new dark age
they forget to have fun
The only light from the sun…is you
In the new dark age
nobody puts up a fight
In the new dark age
you’ll see no flares in the night
The only lamp burning bright…is you
The only lamp burning bright…is you

Rod has a final thought on it…because of course he does.

Nice. If I were writing it, I would only tweak it to say that the only lamp burning bright is us, and then put a verse in about Christ as the light of the world, and the only reason we burn in the darkness is that He burns within us.

I tried to pick the most outrageous sample, but it’s a tough task.

Members of the Cardiac Technical Advisory Panel said that after the panel wrote a scathing review of the pediatric heart surgery program at St. Mary’s, the state asked to start editing their reviews.

“We told them no way,” said one of the physicians, who also asked not to be named for fear of state retribution.

Then, the doctors said, those state officials suggested that hospital reviews shouldn’t be in writing at all — the doctors should instead give oral reports on what they had found.

“We were startled,” said Blanchard, a member of the panel. “It was a system that had worked well for umpteen years.”

Curiously the right wing seems to have ignored that the Iranians basically shut down their Arak nuclear reactor by pouring concrete into the thing.

As a heavy water reactor, the Arak reactor was able to produce quantities of plutonium because uranium would be converted to plutonium in the fission reactions.

By switching to a light water reactor system, far less plutonium is created.

The GOP would rather ignore all this. #FactFreeGOP

Our guys made a navigation whoopsie. Iran gave them a nice dinner, and took them back where they belonged. The whole thing was resolved before the morning papers hit the newsstands with their report that a problem even happened.

Do I have that right?

But they pointed guns at are Americans and were SO humiliated now Resign, Obama, RESIGN!!!!111

Money quote:

“I am very upset,” Puckett told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

His ranch hands have already repaired the fence.

“They’re not coming onto my place no more,” he said of the militants. “If they do, I’m gonna have to do something about it. I don’t want them going across my ground.”

Which is why the RWNJs are so full of hate. Very, very few individuals or groups have the status of people in their world.

Not until after Dreher gets another book deal to write about how Real Christians (all those less committed Christian Moral Therapeutic Deist types like most of the rest of us need not apply) are being oppressed and here is your handy guide to surviving the end of Christian Civilization because those damned dirty apes multi-culturalists and #blacklivesmatter liberals are going to plunder America and let the Islamo-facists in.

Timothy Watson  Jan 13, 2016 • 12:43:00pm
The gunman responsible for a deadly rampage inside a Louisiana movie theater last summer left a journal thanking the man accused of killing nine black people in a church.

In a rambling, handwritten 40-page journal released by police Wednesday, John Russell Houser described Dylann Roof as “green but good.”

“Had Dylan Roof reached political maturity he would have seen the word is not (n-word), but liberal,” Houser wrote. “But thank you for the wake up call Dylann.”

Houser shot and killed two people and wounded nine others before fatally shooting himself inside an auditorium at The Grand 16 theater in Lafayette last July, police have said. Jillian Johnson, a 33-year-old musician and business owner, and Mayci Breaux, a 21-year-old student, died in the shooting.

Police recovered Houser’s journal from the Motel 6 room in Lafayette where he had been staying since early July. It was released Wednesday along with photos from the motel room and a nearly 600-page, partially redacted investigative report.

On the lined pages of what appears to be type of school notebook, Houser laments the state of the U.S., calling it a “filth farm,” and he rants against the news media, national political figures, women, gays and blacks.

The only thing that is real to some of these ‘fiscal conservatives’ is money. Human life of poor people is categorically irrelevant.

I bet Eichmann had the same lack of expression when confronted with what his numbers meant.

Had a terrorist dumped some toxins into the water supply of a US city, he or she would face dozens of federal and state criminal charges.

Governor Snyder et al. should be treated the same.
