While I was overjoyed to see Obama talk to America like we were actual thinking, feeling adults capable of perceiving and recognizing reality (as opposed to screaming, threatening, mocking, spewing hate - this is known as foreshadowing, BTW) …

… the really compelling thing that happened last night was the GOP response by Nikki Haley. She actually said something the GOP did was less-than-perfect and holy. That the party was appealing to the worst in people, and needed to cut it out. That “some people” were bringing out ugliness and making it seem like a winning strategy.

Lots of mouth. Small brain-case. What is this atavistic species?

Basically, she was the mouthpiece for the Establishment’s attempt to kill the Trump cancer before it metastasizes further. There appears to have been a recognition that the Trump phenomenon is serious and is not going away on its own; that the GOP is going to need to rouse itself from its continuous loop of “Fox and Friends” re-runs and fondling of Reagan paraphernalia, and actually come up with Something New.

The reaction? Mixed. Over at Red State, there’s a post entitled “I will phone bank for Hillary if Trump is nominated.” tl;dr version is that the author has a Seekrit Plan that if there is to be an apocalyptic reckoning, let the Democrats take the blame.

in a situation where two devils are my only option, where I’m certain the outcome of 4 years will be bad for the country, where I’m positive the party responsible for nominating them will be held accountable and suffer the wrath of voters for years to come… I choose to let the other party take the hit.

I will not participate in destroying my own party’s brand by helping to elect a dangerous and untrustworthy person to office and declaring him a representative of my ideological beliefs.

The commenters are basically all over the map, either rending their clothes and wondering when a savior will appear to save them from Trumpenstein, or shitting all over the other commenters because they don’t support a real He-Man like Trump who will exterminate the brown people ‘cause reasons.

If you delve into the comments, you will see it all summed up in: “The GOPe? Fuck ‘em.” along with “Trump is the president in waiting. the sooner everyone adjusts to that the better it will be, for them.” Along with a lot of racist, misogynistic masturbation about how they’re going to “Take Over!!1!eleventy” when Trump wins and then cleanse the country… (i.e. “Hey Hiawatha, maybe point your arrows toward the Democrats once in a while. Wait, is Haley a casino Indian or a Slurpee Indian?”

Yep. Fully in the tank for The Donald. At least as long as he keeps slipping checks to them.
