Wonder how long before The Dumbass tweets some insult about Carlos ? Any bets on whether or not the term “had-been” will feature?
It was good. Some of the comments (especially Hispanic) were depressing, but there was plenty of pushback: enough to make me feel better.
Carlos is a national treasure who’s very existence invalidates Trump’s atavistic rhetoric. I think I’ll order his latest CD. Can anyone confirm he’ll get the max revenue from it? I am old school and consider physical media my archive copy.
The good news is that I am meant to fly to the warmth of Arizona tomorrow to spend the long holiday weekend with family.
The bad news is that my health is not very good at all. As I have mentioned, I am dealing with a serious and incurable condition…that some kind of virus might be exacerbating.
Travel is my passion in life, and I want to get out of wintry Chicago and spend some days with family in the sun.
I made a similar post last year ahead of a much longer trip, and it ended up just fine. However, I am sorry to say I am a fair bit weaker now than I was then.
Guess there is nothing to do but pack and make a final decision in about 15 hours.
I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone, INCLUDING Trump.

It’s too late to help for this one, but have you looked into TSA PreCheck and things like pre-boarding? I don’t know what the criteria is for pre-boarding, but that would cut back on the standing in line while you wait for everyone else to put their luggage in the overhead compartment, and PreCheck makes the security line a lot better - plus no need to remove shoes/laptop/light jacket.
I am hoping everything turns out well.

Depending on where in AZ, there is an Amtrak line that runs from Chicago to LA. However, it is going to be somewhat expensive and chew up a lot of time (my guess is close to 2 days) one way.
Bus would be cheaper but that’s still an awful lot of time.

Carlos has more class and talent in 1 finger than the entire GOP has in toto. I was listening to Abraxas today at work, still one of my all time favorites.
The only good thing to come out of the GOP response has been the circular firing squad they have managed to form. I’m really looking forward to the debate tomorrow night. I think the knives are going to start flashing, the ones that barely made it onto the main stage are going to have to make some kind of a mark, and everybody (with the probably exception of Trump) will be underplaying their expected chances in Iowa, so that they can claim momentum when it’s all tallied.

Yes, this is Chicago to Arizona…makes for a LONG trip. Spending that long on a bus or train is less appealing than flying, even eliminating the hassle of the airport.
I already had this planned to hit O’Hare during a bit of a mid afternoon lull. I am weak, but unless there is some kind of crazy situation there requiring me to stand in line too long I should be ok. I even have a guest pass for the recently upgraded United lounge.

Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance if you need it. It sounds like (if you’re flying United) you should be able to ask for pre-boarding when you check in, if you’d like to try and cut out that particular opportunity to be stuck standing in a line.

Yeah, I’ve never bought one either and that’s part of my reason too. The other parts are that I don’t enjoy gambling, and I understand the odds. As I said the other night, I do have “my” numbers (30, 31, 32, etc.) and I’ve never missed out on a jackpot big enough for the winning numbers to be reported on the news.

My only lottery story: Back when the NY million-dollar lottery was a big deal and big money, I met a guy who had won it. Nicknamed Lucky, even before the win. He was a boozer and degenerate gambler who needed just over a year to piss away his entire lump-sum payout. Lucky or not? Before you decide, consider that a few months later he had a major heart attack while driving on the BQE. But the driver behind him, who had noticed his erratic driving before he pulled over and collapsed, was a cardiologist who stopped and saved his life.

Those with concealed weapons permits could carry guns on school grounds — and in some cases in school buildings — under a bill a Republican leader hopes to get through the Legislature in the next two months.

So a transformer here blew a couple of hours ago taking out the power for a number of hours. In the upper 40s temp wise so okay for us mammals who can snuggle into our warm blankied bed together, and Blossom the cockatoo who could, if it got REALLY cold, snuggle under the covers as well (as long as I don’t go to sleep too hard and squish her). But there’s Mo Betta whose aquarium heater is now off who I fear will become a sad little fish-cicle if we don’t get power back soonish. It’s not like I can put a fishie sweater on him. I worry. I love that fish.

Water is a fantastic insulator and therefore a lousy conductor. Just don’t overheat the water (as long as you can touch it, I would think it’s fine) and don’t add it directly to the tank. It should be fine overnight with that, and you can repeat in the morning if necessary.

The Obama administration is on some type of deportation kick which is negatively impacting Latino families so I can understand if some Latinos are a bit salty about him. However, I hope they understand that it is the Republicans who refuse to even entertain any discussion about immigration reform which would stop or lessen those deportations. Something the Lord Made is such an underrated but powerful movie. I recommend it whenever possible to friends. Mos Def did a great job as an unrecognized African American genius.

Rickman’s career was varied and his roles are legendary in Hollywood. He was one of the all time great villains as Hans Gruber in Die Hard (Mr. Tagaki will not be joining us for the rest of his life). He also played Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, which cast him as a bad guy through most of the series, until his redemption at the very end.
His effect on his fellow cast and crew, to say nothing of his fans, was tremendous.

Honestly, the audio version of Harry Potter is the best way to intake the story. The narrator won grammys and numerous other awards for the work. He had to perform something like 134 distinct voices.
I actually paid full price for the audio cassettes as it wasn’t originally available on audible. Do not regret one cent of it.

Interesting that Listening Library, the original audio book company created for the blind, bought the rights for the audio version of Harry Potter on whim and it brought them back into the market.

Read the first Harry Potter and found it pretty decent but was never inspired to read further. Have seen most of the films but am not inspired to watch any of them again.

And yes, I am in KL. Arrived around 5:30 pm local time. Took me 90 minutes to go through immigration, baggage claim, customs, exchange currency desk and SIM card store — long enough to just miss the 6:30 bus to my hosts’ neighborhood.
But I had a tasty dinner, and the taxi driver was playing hits of the ’90s on his stereo, so I’m OK.

If I came into $10M, I would set aside about half of that and do the same thing.

Anyone watch CNN this morning? It appears they are very persistent and desperate to turn the Iran/US Navy non-situation into a “controversy” claiming that our sailors were “humiliated”.
Cable “news” is all about ratings and profit from said ratings even more so from the Big Sleep (3 acronyms here). You can almost hear them saying “Truth never sold no used car” as they babble on. Main Stream my ass. Then there is the McLaughlin “Group” which is about as bizarre as you can get along with other assorted PR firms posing as legitimate news outlets. The slow death of print and the devolution of cable is concerning. I get my sources here, but there is a vast wasteland of “I only look at what I want to think” out there. Then there is AM radio. Four GOP candidates will be featured, including former HP (HPQ) CEO Carly Fiorina, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.
BUT… if Paul is boycotting this, that leaves just Fiorina, Huckabee, and Santorum.
If they go with only that trio, can they really fill all the time with just those three? Sure, Huckabee in particular can preach for an hour, but will Fox Business really do that?
For how long will the undercard be scheduled?
If it is 90 minutes, can you imagine how the answers will be repetitions after just 30 minutes?

Carson at one time was challenging Donald Trump for front-runner status, but questions about his widely praised, hardscrabble life story and a shift in the debate to foreign policy prefaced a sharp decline in Carson’s support.
I see CNN left off the easy observation that Carson comes off as a religious loon, absorbed with his own story of being Je$u$ Mark II, and unable to address almost any question dealing with governance.

haven’t these goons figured out that they are doing their job in the public eye? most of us are prepared to cut them some slack for working in a tough environment but I think we expect them to treat all citizens, even suspected criminals, as human beings.
