Video: State Troopers Arrest Intoxicated Armed Man on His Way to Join the Bundy Militia

YouTube

Today in Oregon, state police arrested a man who said he was going to join the militia at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, intending to be a personal bodyguard for the Bundys. The Harney County DA released this video showing the arrest, and you won’t believe how insane it gets.

On January 25, 2016 at about 11:45AM, the Harney County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an armed adult male at the Hines Market who made comments he wanted to join the militia at the refuge and help with killing federal agents.

Law enforcement personnel responded and made contact with the male, identified as Joseph A STETSON, age 54, of Woodburn. During the contact, it appeared STETSON was armed with a handgun (it turned out to be a pellet gun in a belt holster). STETSON told troopers he was intending on being the personal guard for the Bundys.

It was determined through the contact that STETSON was believed to be impaired and was arrested by troopers for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (alcohol). During the arrest, he repeatedly made death threats towards the officers and resisted arrest prior to being placed into a patrol vehicle. After being placed in the patrol vehicle, STETSON kicked the vehicle door, damaging it.

STETSON was lodged at the Harney County Jail for DUII and Resisting Arrest

**Note*** Date on recording is incorrect- occurred 1-25-2016

This standoff is becoming a bizarre, dangerous circus, and I’m getting an increasingly bad feeling about how it’s going to end up. The people showing up to support the Bundys are unstable and violent.

Just a small nitpick - I’ve noticed on far too many occasions that the timestamps on police dashcam/bodycam recordings are wildly inaccurate. Would it be too much to ask to have the camera sync with the onboard computer of the vehicle?

“…At the end of the road was a mess hall outfitted with an upside-down American flag. Nearly a dozen militants were out back chatting, gathered around a small wood fire. A few feet away others dug through a box of mail, throwing items, mainly sex toys, into an oil drum fire. One held up a large white cardboard cutout of a cock and balls, saying of the flag and eagle drawing on it, “At least it’s patriotic,” before feeding it to the flames. Another militiaman walked by with a black butt plug adorned with googly eyes, saying, “I didn’t even know what this was before someone told me,” as he sacrificed it. We were handed a fake plastic turd as a memento.

The mood started to curdle. “Mama Bear,” one of at least a half-dozen women present, repeatedly warned she didn’t want any reporting “to put us in danger.” She specifically asked us not to mention the barrel of flaming dildos.”

“…every day that Ammon Bundy remains parked at Linda Beck’s desk deals another blow to carp suppression. Beck had hoped to remove carp at the mouth of the Blitzen River, which empties into Malheur Lake, within the next two weeks. Meeting that deadline now seems impossible. Absent active removal, carp may recolonize areas from which they’d once been eradicated — efforts that took years to complete.”

This would be a perfect story for Hunter though. He was an independent-minded wild man himself and he’d probably put these people at ease and get all kinds of interesting stuff to come out of their mouths, the same way he hung out with the Hell’s Angels for months and months and still wrote an honest portrait of them.

I understand why he did himself in - the world had become too corporate and too sick and crazy even for him - but this situation is tailor made for his style of reporting. A cast of paranoid loons in the middle of nowhere protesting bogeymen and asserting freedom and manhood, while burning barrels of sex toys? It’s Gonzo to the core. I miss Hunter. We need him here.

Wikipedia entry about Sacheen Littlefeather, his proxy:

Marlon Brando became involved with the American Indian Movement (AIM) in the early 1970s. In 1973, he decided to make a statement about the Wounded Knee incident and contacted AIM about providing a person to accept the Oscar for him. Dennis Banks and Russell Means picked Sacheen Littlefeather.[citation needed]

She represented Brando and his boycott of the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal as Don Vito Corleone in The Godfather (1972), as a way to protest the ongoing siege at Wounded Knee and Hollywood and television’s misrepresentation of American Indians. Brando had written a 15-page speech for Littlefeather to give at the ceremony, but when the producer met her backstage he threatened to physically remove her or have her arrested if she spoke on stage for more than 60 seconds.[5] Her on-stage comments were therefore improvised. She then went backstage and read the entire speech to the press. In his autobiography My Word Is My Bond, Roger Moore (who presented the award and had recently been announced as the new James Bond, Agent 007) claims he took the Oscar home with him and kept it in his possession until it was collected by an armed guard sent by the Academy.

The incident provoked the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to rule out future proxy acceptance of the Academy Awards.[6]

Their usual schtick after these faux “Grand Juries” is to slap dozens of liens on the property of their targets.

The tactic started getting traction back in the late 90’s (although it is older then that) and created havoc with property owners who had to get lawyers to clear away the bogus claims against their property and credit.

Quick question — in what way was Patton an outstanding general? What did he achieve in his career that would have people rate him as successful? I don’t recall anything in particular, was there something in his pre-WWII career that was a standout?

Eisenhower had him bang to rights, making him the head of the fake Army structure that attempted to deceive the Germans before the Normandy invasions.

His response to Germany’s Ardennes in 1944 offensive was an outstanding feat of arms.
He was lucky to get involved in armored warfare before WWII at a time when it became the dominating factor on the battlefield, and on top of it all he just makes an interesting historical figure, especially in a country that likes and embraces idiosyncratic individualists.

You mean like Custer?

My own personal choice for best general of WWII, Marshal of the Soviet Union Vasilevsky didn’t have a personal publicist/hagiographer trailing along behind him, he just did his job right while flying a desk and organising stuff the way Eisenhower did. Vasilevsky was one of the Soviet generals that smashed the German war machine and drove them to destruction and surrender in the ruins of Berlin and then he turned around and did the same to the Japanese occupiers of Manchuria a mere three months later.

The US General staff did not see the Ardennes offensive coming, but Patton did and already had plans in place and was able to move to counter it within 48 hours.

And yes, he was a bit of a self-obsessed nut case like Custer, just less disastrous in the outcome of his battles.

It’s a funny thing about generals. Sometimes you have to measure their success in ways that don’t necessarily add up in simple facts and figures.

Just one anecdotal example: A Canadian friend once told me that his grandfather was a foot soldier in WWII who served under Montgomery. He said his grandfather “absolutely loved Monty” and he told my friend (his grandson) he would have been willing to do anything for Montgomery — storm a machine gun nest single-handed, take on a German tank with his bare hands … you get the idea.

The ability of a general to inspire his troops shouldn’t be overlooked.

Napoleon’s presence on a battlefield was remarked to have been worth, what, 10 000 men. He certainly didn’t lack for confidence, which meant something at a time when a general’s presence was literal.
At Waterloo, however, he lost to a man whose inner reserve and dedication to maintaining composure in the face of terrifying odds, counted too.
Generalship, to this civvy, has always been about more than tactics. Men like Patton, might raise our ire, but would the 1st Army been as convincing without him?

Edited.

re: #78 Scout

Montgomery was a plodder, unadventurous and averse to risk-taking (with good reason given the limitations in manpower he faced). Saying that he could organise battles like Second Alamein which involved putting lots of artillery, armour and mobile infantry in the right places to do the job, no flashy Red Ball Express tricks that falter when they run out of fuel or overstretch their support. That’s why I have a thing for Vasilevsky; competent managers who get shit done are much preferable to the interesting times others (such as Dick Cheney) create. After all they don’t call him No-Drama Obama for nothing.

George Washington’s main accomplishment in winning the Revolutionary War was just keeping the Continental Army in existence. A lot of those guys would have liked nothing better than to just go home, especially during the bitter winters, but he managed to keep them together. I don’t think he had any “brilliant” victories in the field, though I could certainly be wrong about that.

D’Erlan might have broken then line if not for the reverse-slope tactic Wellington preferred.
And while Napoleon was confined by his various conditions to a fixed position at the centre, Wellington moved about, appearing wherever the next crisis seemed to arise.

Blucher definitely delivered the final blow but his mobility was only enabled by Napoleon giving confused orders to Grouchy.
Certainly, you’re right. It wasn’t a clear-cut battle, and half of Wellington’s troops weren’t even British but what was the practical result?

My friends in northern Thailand (Sakon Nakhon near Udon Thani) have posted photos of snow there. They went skiing, even.

To give you a sense of how weird that is, Sakon Nakhon is near the 17th parallel, like Cuba, Hawai’i or central Mexico. They occasionally get frost there, but rarely snow in the valleys.

re: #74 Nojay UK

Quick question — in what way was Patton an outstanding general? What did he achieve in his career that would have people rate him as successful? I don’t recall anything in particular, was there something in his pre-WWII career that was a standout?

Eisenhower had him bang to rights, making him the head of the fake Army structure that attempted to deceive the Germans before the Normandy invasions.

Like Montgomery he was an excellent self promoter. The press loved him. His breakout from Normandy was rather well done.

He certainly wasn’t in Guderian’s or von Manstein’s class though.

Patton was best summed up by a soldier in the 761st Tank Battalion.

You see that Green Hornet? The way his eyes roll? That man is crazy!

The Green Hornet was the 3rd Army’s nickname for Patton.

I hadn’t seen the picture, so I used the Google and was reading about it at ArmyTimes. This story was in the sidebar:

President Barack Obama is spending part of Monday visiting with wounded and ill soldiers and their families at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The president visits the nation’s largest military hospital a few times each year. They take place out of the public view. The president helicoptered from the snowed-in White House to the hospital, which is located in a Maryland suburb just outside the nation’s capital.

The visit lasted about a half hour. The White House says Obama met with three service members as well as family. Two are serving in the Army and the other in the Navy.

HOW DARE THE PRESIDENT NOT USE THE MILITARY AS A PHOTO-OP?!?!?!?!

His military background would appear to be a delusion or outright fabrication. “I am a freakin’ colonel, Green Beret. My record is sealed by Ronald Reagan.” Yeah, right, sealed records……that’s why there is no support to your claim that you are a colonel.

And then there’s this:

State prison records show that Stetson pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and was convicted of menacing in a 2009 incident in which he destroyed a mobile home in Portland in what authorities called a domestic rampage.

Several other homes in the area were evacuated before Stetson surrendered after a standoff with Washington County sheriff’s deputies. At the time, he was sentenced to 75 days in jail and two years of probation, according to state records.

All these people who complain about who is or isn’t essential government workers seem to ignore that the same classifications, if applied to their own jobs, would mean that they’re not required to be working either. Ever.

But that part gets conveniently left off. The hate of government is so pervasive and corrosive that they ignore that these same people complain when government doesn’t have enough people to handle their IRS tax forms, stuff isn’t processed in a timely fashion, or parks are closed or facilities aren’t clean or … you get the idea.

The right wing lives in a fantasy world, and the echo chamber magnifies the ignorance to 11ty.

The defense budget? You mean like the F-35 program whose total cost will be over $1 trillion and it will be years before the planes are even mission capable as promised years ago (can’t fire its guns, can’t use latest tech, etc.)

Or aircraft carriers that cost $12 billion a piece, and no one bats an eye?
Or the B-2 bomber that costs nearly a billion per?
Or the F-22, which is a hanger queen?

Or the B-1 bomber, originally designed as a bomber penetrator to carry nukes no longer qualifies as a nuclear weapon carrier despite being built decades after the B-52 (which is still around decades after first entering service - it’s almost to the point that the grandkids of the pilots who first flew the plane are now working on them!)

And big and small program procurements that cost billions more than they otherwise should.

The Pentagon Wars might have been a black comedy, but it hits the nail on the head about the absurdity of how defense budgets and programs are done. Taxpayer funding is not even part of the calculus. It’s about how many districts can jobs be placed to preserve a program of dubious merit.

Every sector, public, private, the military and otherwise, have “non-essential employees”. When I was stationed in Memphis in the early 90s, an ice-storm shut down the entire region, including the base, for 2 days. The base commander made the decision that non-essential military and civilian personnel need to stay at home. I was an electronic technician, so I got to sleep in. When TS Allison flooded Houston in 2001, my hospital (and the entire medical center) made the decision that non-essential personnel were to stay at home. Our organization has a BCP setup so that certain people can work even during natural disasters. I was among those who worked during Sandy - from home. With everyone having internet, it’s possible that a natural disaster can mean many work from home - without the need to be in the office. This further limits disruptions due to natural disasters.

It keeps people off the roads, but there are some jobs that can’t be done anywhere other than in the physical location - teachers for instance. Or doctors/health practitioners. Hospitals. And even there, they can decide that certain specialities are not essential - and can limit procedures/operations to urgent care only. They can reschedule elective procedures, etc.

Work not done today will get done when conditions permit.

Rand is not very popular, but has the advantage of low turnout hurting any Democrats chances. With Hillary assumed to be the nominee, that could help turnout among those Blue Dogs that are still left in the state. Gray is not in any sense a Liberal Democrat, and his family business is well known in the state. Lexington doesn’t run partisan candidates for city offices, so outside the area he is not know as a Democrat at all. He is openly gay, but once again, it is not well known in many parts of the state, but it would only make a difference with people who wouldn’t vote for him anyway.

The people of Lexington would love to vote for him, but hate to see him leave his post as Mayor. He has been amazing for the city(we really haven’t had a Mayor who wasn’t in my lifetime). He could show Chris Christie how to handle snow events in your city.

I’m still amused that anyone thought he had a chance at the nomination.

Rand has proven that he’s an even more pathetic national candidate than his father. That takes skill.

Rand has pissed a lot of people off in the state for buying a caucus setup for Presidential candidates, since it is against the law for any person in the state to appear on the ballot for two different political races concurrently.

HappyWarrior  Jan 26, 2016 • 7:29:20am

re: #156 Smith25’s Liberal Thighs

Yep. Also Nancy Jo Kemper, former executive director of Council of Churches here in the state is planning to run.

MANAGE GOVERNMENT LIKE A BUSINESS OR HOUSEHOLD BUDGET!

satirewire.com

Yielding to economic pressure, the U.S. will sell off 11 underperforming states by the end of the year, the White House announced today.

The surprise sale is a concession to Republicans, who have long demanded the government be run more like a business. Each of the states chosen annually receive more federal money than they collect in taxes, giving them a negative return-on-investment “that no corporation would tolerate,” said White House economic advisor Austan Goolsbee.

The worst-performing 11 states include America’s largest (Alaska), its poorest (Mississippi), and its least interesting (North Dakota). The others are New Mexico, Louisiana, West Virginia, Alabama, South Dakota, Virginia, Kentucky, and Montana

y’know… I like the electoral college projections after this sale.

Man that’s a burn. We don’t belong there heh. That does get me thinking about all the money the bright red states take in though. It’s kind like how Romney called the Democratic base a bunch people dependent on the government while he actually lost our wealthiest areas to Obama while winning big in the state’s poorest areas. If the poor whites ever realized how much the GOP screws them over, the GOP would be fucked which is exactly why they need to scapegoat gays, immigrants, and religious minorities.

It’s always vague bs like that or “entitlements.” Never the defense budget. If anything showed me what a two cent asshole Paul Ryan really is, ti was when his Ryan Budget had no cuts to defense and he actually called the Joint Chiefs liars for talking about DOD waste. Gary Johnson as Wrenchwrench will tell you gave his support to Chuck Baldwin in 2008. Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party nominee from that year supports Ted Cruz this year. Judge sides with group building Noah’s Ark on tax incentive

A federal judge ruled Monday that Kentucky officials violated the ark builders’ First Amendment protections by blocking it from the sales tax tourism incentive that could have been worth up to $18 million.

The Ark Encounter, being built by Christian group Answers in Genesis, is due to open in July.

U.S. District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove ruled the state’s Tourism Cabinet cannot exclude the ark attraction from the incentive based on its “religious purpose and message.” The state initially celebrated the project but reversed course in late 2014.

Answers in Genesis founder Ken Ham says the ruling is a “victory for the free exercise of religion in this country.”

snip

Republican Gov. Matt Bevin, who took office in December, has said that he supports tax incentives for the project.

Answers in Genesis filed the federal lawsuit in February.

Lawyers for the group argued in a court hearing in July that they should not face different treatment for the incentive just because the attraction would have religious themes. They asked the court to grant a temporary injunction against the state.

Van Tatenhove agreed, writing in the Monday ruling that because the tourism incentive “is neutral, has a secular purpose, and does not grant preferential treatment to anyone based on religion, allowing (Answers in Genesis) to participate along with the secular applicants cannot be viewed as acting with the predominant purpose of advancing religion.”

Tom DeLay is trending on FB. He claims that the FBI are ready to indict Hillary.

FBI doesn’t indict people, grand juries do.

This is just to hurt Hillary.

Well Bugman knows a thing or two about indictments. But really, this is just so laughably bad. The FBI has never prosecuted a case. They have gotten evidence that allows US Attorneys to prosecute but that’s not what Buggy said.

Hammond Family Signs On To ‘Citizens Grand Jury’

Estranged from her husband and son, isolated from the rest of her community, and convinced that the federal government is tapping her phones, Susan “Susie” Hammond is hoping a stranger from Florida can restore her life to normal.
This past Saturday, 62-year-old Florida resident Joaquin Mariano DeMoreta-Folch asked Hammond to sign a piece of paper titled “Demand to Amend With No Delay.”

DeMoreta-Folch is considered to be so extreme that the National Liberty Alliance - a hub for the citizens grand jury movement considered by some experts to be an extremist organization itself — is distancing itself from the Florida man.

“I don’t want to say that he’s crazy,” said NLA spokesman Robert Bristow, “but he’s too extreme for us.”

“We wish him the best, but the way he wanted to do things does not mesh with us,” Bristow told OPB. “He was being of detriment to us and our way of thinking.”

Trump is sweeping the bigot endorsement board.

Trump Embraces Radical Anti-Catholic, Anti-Gay Pastor

“…Donald Trump has once again joined up with Texas pastor Robert Jeffress, this time inviting Jeffress to introduce him at an event at a Christian college in Iowa over the weekend.”

“…Perry, then the governor of Texas, drew flak for embracing Jeffress during his 2012 presidential campaign, particularly after Jeffress criticized Mitt Romney for his Mormon faith when he introduced Perry at the Values Voter Summit. Jeffress also declared that a Mormon president would cause God to judge America and that Mormons, Muslims, Jews and most Catholics are destined for hell.”

Nah, if it’s revealed the bank managers were not embezzling, you should go ahead and charge them anyway because the heavily-edited video showed them “admitting” to embezzling and that’s all the evidence you need to obtain a guilty verdict.

Well, when you put it THAT way…

Denmark has gone down asshole road.

Police will be able to seize valuables worth more than 10,000 kroner (1,340 euros; £1,000) from refugees to cover housing and food costs.
MPs also approved plans to delay family reunions for asylum seekers.
The bill had been expected to go through even though it had been criticised by human rights groups.
The prospect of refugees having possessions seized has drawn comparisons to the confiscation of valuables from Jews during World War Two.

Good luck getting Muslims and the Muslim World to listen to you now too.

They want to talk about how refugees are straining them?

What about Lebanon and Jordan?

How many refugees has Denmark taken in? Probably not that many.

Why isn’t this woman in prison? She leaves her four kids in a car, alone, with a loaded handgun and the police haven’t named, much less, charged her?

A 7-year-old boy whose sibling found a loaded gun in Mom’s purse died late Monday after he was shot in the head.

The child’s mother and stepfather, who are from Sparta, Tenn., but whose names have not been released, left their four kids in the car at about 3:15 p.m. ET while they went inside a cellphone store here to pay a bill. One of the children found the semi-automatic pistol, tried to unload it and accidentally discharged it, according to police in this city of 11,000 about 70 miles west of Knoxville.

Throws desk. Really enough with this stupid crap that only people with guns could have stopped this. These shootings succeed because of the element of surprise. It’s got nothing to do with no hypothetical person being armed. If they armed gun humpers like Alicia, she would be among the first to die and hell the gun man may even take her piece and have a second weapon to make a bad situation already worse. These people are sick. It’s always more guns that is the answer.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) called Donald Trump an “orange-faced windbag” on Monday, the latest insult in his feud with the GOP presidential front-runner.

“Donald Trump is a delusional narcissist and an orange-faced windbag,” he said on Comedy Central’s “The Nightly Show.”

“Have you ever had a speck of dirt fly into your eye?” he continued, mocking Trump.”[It is] annoying, irritating and might even make you cry.

“If the dirt doesn’t go away, it will keep scratching your cornea until eventually it blinds you with all its filth. A speck of dirt is way more qualified to be president.”

Paul also likened Trump to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.

“I’m not sure I would say Trump is Hitler - Goebbels maybe,” he said.

Those kids with the criminals in Oregon? This is how they got there:

A phony judge may have impersonated a police officer to help a pair of Oregon militants take their children away from a relative and bring them to an armed showdown with federal authorities…

DeMoreta-Folch also apparently went to Arizona to help the wife of one of the most prominent Bundy militants retrieve two school-age children from a relative during a family and legal dispute about the girls’ care.

The couple asked DeMoreta-Folch to help them retrieve the girls, and they also sent two unidentified militants along at his request to assist in the operation…

The pair went to the relative’s house, where DeMoreta-Folch — who Dowdell said put on a phony law enforcement ID badge before leaving — argued that the relative had no authority under common law to hand over the girls to CPS, and the man threatened to call the police.

Bruce Doucette, a Colorado man assisting the militants, said he called the relative, identified himself as a “United States at Superior Court Judge” and threatened “to bring him up on charges to the grand jury of kidnapping” if he did not turn over the girls to their mother and DeMoreta-Folch.

No, the FDA has nothing to do with pricing. The FDA regulates how drugs are tested in clinical trials, whether clinical trials should continue based on results, whether drugs should be approved based on clinical trial results, and how the drugs are manufactured. Pricing is entirely up to the pharma co.
