The Oregon Militia Standoff Is Officially Kaput

This is the end, my only friend
US News • Views: 60,557
A convoy of law enforcement vehicles heads to the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, Jan. 26, 2016

And the great Bundy militia occupation of a bird sanctuary comes to an end, not with a bang but a whimper, as the rest of the armed nitwits surrender peacefully. Apparently there’s one die-hard still left inside the Wildlife Refuge headquarters, but law enforcement is saying the area is “secure” according to Oregon Public Broadcasting reporter Ryan Haas.

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the birdcage.

With the benefit of hindsight, I am willing to say that it looks like the feds did everything almost exactly right. Textbook marginalization and farming of complacency followed by swift and decisive force. Only the fringiest of the fringe could possibly think there were any martyrs here.

My thoughts exactly. This partially compensates for the failure at the Bundy Ranch.

Please note that there have been twenty times as many dead from domestic violence shootings since Tuesday as there were killed in Oregon.

I wonder if they had been waiting for that crop of Bundys to get complacent and then wander off as a group to somewhere where they could be easily, discretely, and safely taken into custody, but that the group split before that happened.

We’ll never really know what the feds were thinking in that case. Certainly it’s safer to assume that plans never survive first contact with the enemy, and that it’s better to attribute failures to incompetence than malice. IMHO anyway.

Notice they only broke out the dope after the Mormon brain trust got scooped up? (So far as we know). One can surmise that somebody’s had the stuff up there for a while. Unless they bought it local, it is Oregon, after all. We may never know for sure, but there may be FBI surveillance of their weed breaks.

Oh, but there seem to be quite a few who are still trying to portray Finicum as a “martyr to the cause,” including Cliven Bundy. These nuts are adamantly refusing to admit that the Malheur terrorists broke several state and federal laws, such is the level of their denial of reality. These out-of-state tools went to Oregon, took over a federal installation, intimidated and threatened local residents, made sure everyone in sight saw that they were heavily armed, closed down a school for several days, caused some federal employees to be unable to report for work, set up their own government and court system, and some far right diehards still think they should escape any/all punishment and get to keep their guns so they can do this all again in some other state/states. SMDH.

Operative word bolded.

There are a lot of people (entirely too many) who are at least vaguely sympathetic to the idea that the feds used excessive force at Ruby Ridge or in Waco. I think a lot fewer people are going to be sympathetic to Finicum’s case.

Breaking: The Tiger Beat on the Potomac looks like its imploding from the top.

In what can be described only as a cataclysm in Beltway media, CEO Jim VandeHei is leaving Politico, the eight-year-old politics website that shook up Washington journalism, according to sources and reports by Huffington Post and CNNMoney.

And in what can be described only as a mega-cataclysm, Politico Chief White House correspondent Mike Allen is joining VandeHei in rushing toward the exits of Politico’s Rosslyn headquarters. Allen writes the daily franchise newsletter “Politico Playbook.” A bearer of occasional scoops, Allen is the driver of very frequent revenue. Weekly sponsorships for “Playbook” run in the $50,000 to $60,000 range this year, depending on the news cycle. And that’s not even rolling in the big money that comes from “Politico Playbook” conferences/interviews anchored by Allen. His work alone — complete with ethical issues — subsidized a platoon of Politico reporters.

“…To prosecutors, the virtue of such conspiracy charges are their flexibility: The government need only prove that two or more of the defendants agreed to prevent some federal employee from discharging his or her duty by force, intimidation or threat. Prosecutors don’t have to prove they were successful.

It used to be hard to prove what defendants agreed to do: You had to infer it from their actions, or find a snitch to repeat their conversations, or wiretap them. But this is 2016, and we arrange our affairs in the open. The government’s 31-page affidavit in support of the complaint against the eight occupiers is chock-full of their own words: statements in press interviews, statements in videos posted to YouTube, statements in widely distributed emails. It’s enough to make a defense attorney weep…”

Just flipped over to catch Carly complaining about Hillary and Bill’s relationship.

God that woman is evil. And I don’t like to make comments about people’s appearance, but damn tonight she looks evil. And now she is back on Planned Parenthood and lying her ass off.

Go away Carly.

Back to sports!

It is amusing to see Carly campaigning on being evil and seeing it fail. IMO her fatal error was not bringing the “Planned Parenthood is selling baby parts” lies into the GOP foreign policy debate.

Only an amateur would think that being on-topic in a debate is more important than telling lies the GOP base wants to hear.

SMDH.

Anyone else think the nuts will try to use Finicum’s blue tarp as their “Blutfahne”?

That is interesting. Everyone was speculating it would be some time before we got to see any video.

And it will be very interesting to see how this plays out when held up against some of the police shootings (Brown, Rice, Scott, etc.) and how conservatives handle evidence, witnesses, etc. Very interesting indeed.

I realize it’s somewhat anathema, but even for a political blog I don’t necessarily think a play by play commentary of every speech Trump gives is necessary.

But that’s just me, and so I merely go off and work on the stuff I’m supposed to be doing anyway.

…And then when I saw that Tweetie had Ann Fucking Coulter on his show, I totally threw in the towel. Having Republicans on is one thing, but giving a platform to that harpie, who brings nothing to the party, was just a bridge too far.

Here’s what kind of raging nitwit Chris Matthews is: he’s a guy whose interviewing style is to constantly interrupt the guest every 15 seconds; but his closing segment is titled “Let Me Finish”, as if he never, ever gets a word in edgewise.

The Reagan worship doesn’t help, either.

Or bringing on Ann Coulter.

A few kiddie table observations before the main debate starts:

1. Holy shit. Jim Gilmore actually exists! I thought he was imaginary, like Ted Cruz’s conscience or Rand Paul’s principles.

2. Did I actually hear Carly Fiorina extol the virtues of Zero Based Budgeting? That ALONE should disqualify her from ever running a Fortune 500 company again, never mind serving in a government role. This also explains how she ran HP into the fucking ground.

3. Santorum and Huckabee are horrible people. Just the worst. I get irrationally angry listening to them talk.

The part where he doesn’t slow down for the roadblock is not helpful.

His hands were up when he exited the vehicle, but then he reached for the jacket pocket, which you can see him moving in a way that would be consistent with that.

So for work I have been researching the US jewelry market. Many hours, spent a couple grand on lists. But looking to share the data with you guys here as interesting by way of our changing economy. At it’s recent height the jewelry biz here was about 30,000 to 40,000 locations, depending on how fine a point to put on it. 40,000 counts those kiosks with inexpensive stuff. So say 30,000 or so. At the same time about 4000 to 6000 locations were making or fixing jewelry like gold and platinum. Maybe just a fixit goldsmith maybe a small shop, maybe a big shop, hundreds of employees.

Now the retail is 13,900. Kiosks would add a few thousand makers and designer and repair people still stand at 4000-6000. I’m here to tell you that is custom work and CAD tech saving an American small mfg sector and maybe my job. Jewelers Board of trade data as correlated with more confidential data from operating companies and some hours with my friend Google.

This additive printing thing is just exploding in our biz. Cost went from a hundred grand to about ten grand including a few thousand for a very powerful PC. Now a retailer without a shop at all can design with his customer, send off the file, get a resin model back for customer final OK and then we adjust a bit maybe, print a resin model, cast in finger size, finish, set and ship. In a week. Literally seamless bridal rings.

Changes are now. And tomorrow. And the next. But American artisans are coming back.

Interesting. Thing about this on NPR this morning highlighting a stand-up desk maker. The only hitch right now is that the local woodshops don’t have the best tech to take advantage and still want print out instructions. But it will change.

He did exit the vehicle with his hands up, but then he did indeed go for his pocket. In which is alleged he had a handgun. Considering the rhetoric of these people, and the intelligence that these people were armed, and the threats and so on, that person sealed his own fate when he dropped his hands and went for his weapon (allegedly).

Oh I hope that Fiore or whatever Ms Boobs and Guns name is becomes the subject of public mockery as she should be.
