Well, I’m going to bed. Going to hit the pawn shops in before work, I’m looking for a power miter saw (hopefully a sliding one). Could make a project a LOT easier, but I’m not looking to spend a lot of money.

Nice thing about living in a military town, lots of pawn shops. I got a great deal on a Canon T1i that I still use on a regular basis at one. It’s the one I grab if I want a large camera, but don’t want to take the 60d for whatever reason. It’s also my back up camera on occasion.

Do you have a Harbor Freight? Their saw prices are ridiculously low, but the tools need a good check. QC is all over the place.

Yep. It’s actually just across the street from the shop. I’ve gotten some tools from there, a 3/8 inch drill, electric impact wrench. Those have worked fine, but I’d be leery of the accuracy of a miter saw from them, unless I’m willing to do a LOT of tweaking and tuning. I view them as a great source for stuff that’s pretty simple, and especially for things that won’t get used a lot. I can see a number of uses for the miter saw down the road, rather get a good used one.

Truth be told, my in-car tool box is almost all HF tools. More than good enough for what I need them for.

RWNJs are saying the Feds had orders to “Shoot to kill” in Oregon.

So much derp. This is what happens when you’re educated by television and homeschooling.

“Usually, I’m not trying to kill someone when I shoot at them.” Said no one, ever. So, Item 1, the phrase is stupid.

Second, that makes three trucks full of Feds and Oregon state troopers the worst shots ever, since they utterly failed to kill 90+% of their targets despite having strategic, tactical, and equipment superiority. Only Imperial Stormtroopers could be so imprecise!

The defining characteristic of the right wing appears to be a total, utter, irredeemable lack of self-awareness. Do these people hear themselves? Do they have the faintest fucking clue how they sound to normal, functioning human beings? Answer: No.

Audio, close-in video, and exhibit photographs are going to be really interesting when/if made public.

Watching a stumbling old man trying to yank a 9mm out of the inside of a floppy jacket in the middle of a federal stop was bad enough, but I’m sure there were plenty of verbal commands to just fucking stop, stop you stupid, stupid man, which he disobeyed.

Being white doesn’t buy you immunity, it just buys you time. The Rightbros haven’t grokked this yet.

In which the Sander’s campaign suddenly discovers that unions have developed strong negative feelings towards infiltration tactics:

Weaver confirmed that the Sanders staffers were wearing the culinary union button “in solidarity with people but they were also wearing Bernie paraphernalia.”

Emilia Pablo, Sanders’s state communications director, told CNN on Thursday that no one from the campaign is misrepresenting who they are in casinos, but that they are wearing Culinary union buttons. What’s more, Pablo said she was surprised the union came out so strongly against their campaign.

“It is surprising because we have been building a positive relationship with them from the moment that we go to the ground,” Pablo said. “We have always thought we have had a positive relationship with them and for them to come out so strongly against us and to go to the press first, that surprises me.”

Meanwhile, over at National Racists Online, demonstrating once again that they earned that name, a top left column article:

The High Cost of Radical Racialized Lies — Has the Ferguson Effect Gone National?

[…]

It’s fashionable for white liberals to embrace black radicals — whether the Black Panthers in the Sixties or Ta-Nehisi Coates today. But in doing so, they’re turning their backs on the black Americans who often suffer the most — and who’ve fought hard to save their own streets. Reality is debunking the radical narrative. But how long before reality returns to urban politics?

The police officers of a good sized city need to all call out sick on a Friday afternoon for the entire weekend. Let the denizens of the inner city celebrate their diversity free from the heavy hand of the law. Leave them to their own devices for an entire weekend, free from institutional racism and white privilege. On Monday morning the police can return to work and help the sanitation department clean up all the broken glass and corpses off the sidewalks.

When you ignore the root cause of a problem all solutions are ineffective.

Bevin riling things up in KY:

Ky. Governor claims Planned Parenthood performs ‘illegal, unlicensed’ abortions

Gov. Matt Bevin (R) claimed Thursday that Planned Parenthood is performing illegal and unlicensed abortions in Kentucky.

He spoke to reporters and photographers during an unrelated event in Louisville.

“I’ve always been a very strongly unapologetic pro-life individual,” Bevin said. “To that end, that has not changed. What I tell you is interesting, and this is just breaking news even today, is that Planned Parenthood is illegally performing abortions in Kentucky.”

He went on to say, “It’s that brazen disregard for the law that is going to be hammered down. There is no tolerance whatsoever for people in the Commonwealth of Kentucky disregarding the law. They are unlicensed. They are doing it knowingly, and they are going to brought to justice on this front.”

[…]

WDRB contacted Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky. Maureen Manier responded with the following statement:

“Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky applied for an abortion facility license and commenced services under the guidance of the Office of the Inspector General, the state office that is responsible for licensing health facilities.”

Howdy lizards. Hatchling here. Just want to say hello, and thanks. I have been lurking for over a year - BEST website culture I have found in a long time. The comments here are an oasis of decency as compared to the swirling vortex of despair that most embody.

I’m a web-dev, in Kansas of all places (hate the politics, love the people). Had the good fortune to do a lot of neat things with tech over the last 15 years, and I’m heavily involved in open source stuff.

My beer of choice at the moment is Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA. I brought one for everybody.

Bratfrat hate columnist Neil Munro spins out the diatribe:

GOP Debate’s Islamic-Advocate Questioner Also Is A Bernie Sanders Supporter

[…]

Because of this divide-and-rule diversity strategy, progressive Democrats — including President Barack Obama — are also encouraging the migration of devout Muslims and their theocratic political leaders into the United States.

The resulting spike in jihad attacks, the migrants’ high use of welfare and the spread of their religious ideology — which stigmatizes woman and sexual minorities and ordinary non-Muslim Americans that are the base of the Democrats’ disparate political coalition — and progressives’ increasingly shrill contempt for Americans who dislike of Islamic ideology, are just the costly civic side-effects imposed on Americans by progressives’ reach for political power and social status.

Muslim advocates are useful for progressives because they rally immigrant Muslim voters and they help to spike American social conflicts, which boosts the civic conflict, or “diversity,” that benefits business groups and far-left, secular, anti-Christian, progressive leaders. For example, Noor’s anti-Trump video initially displayed a fake twitter image claiming that Trump tweeted “Muslims should be treated no differently than sex offenders.”

[…]

In contrast, legal and illegal immigration by Latinos causes much less social conflict per person because Latinos share a Christian culture with Americans.

Well over 3 thousand comments… typical bratfrat stuff:

The muslim thing is going to secure the nomination for Mr. Trump. Citizens are becoming more aware every day of the threat of islam. The internet gives us the insight into what is going on in Europe and we ain’t havin any of it. Screw the muslim in the blackhouse.

Tapetum lucidum, it’s a reflective layer behind the eye in most mammals enhancing vision in low light. Humans lost it long ago, possibly to enhance vision at dusk and dawn, where our vision is at its most acute.

For one thing other vertebrates may identify prey at range, but humans were the first animal ever to use long range projectiles for hunting. The slight blurring caused by the tapetum lucidum would’ve been a massive disadvantage for our ancestors in terms of natural selection.

How is that “illegally taken”?

The climb itself is against the rules. If it wasn’t everyone would do it and the Pyramids would suffer significant erosion, mostly because all that’s left on the outside is relatively soft limestone.

From the man-boys still holed up in the Malheur refuge, afraid to leave, but afraid to stay. OMG!

Trapped Inside Malheur Refuge, Militants Desperate For Way Out

“The option is you go out there and they get you and it’s a felony crime and it’s a prison sentence,” Fry told Think Out Loud host Dave Miller. “A lot of us are scared of that option.”

Fry estimates that there are 20 guns in the refuge, left behind during the chaos of militants fleeing.

“We’re not planning on using any guns. Like I said, we [want] to go home,” he said. “But if they want to attack us then we got to defend ourselves.”

Fry said if the FBI tried to arrest him, he would see it as an attack.

“If they come in to arrest then they’re going to throw us behind bars where weird shit would happen,” Fry said.

Cliven got away with it, which gave them a certain sense of invulnerability. And they assumed that the local populace would flock to them and rally to their cause. They did not count on the majority of locals not being bat-shit, gun-humping, tarp-dwelling looney.

Most people out West, in my experience, are skeptical about most things, except maybe Gawd, and really resent outsiders coming in and telling them what to do. Bundy was an outsider, poking his nose, well trimmed beard and clean hat, into their local business, and telling them he had all the answers to their troubles with the BLM. Plus, he put a lot of local people out of their jobs by occupying their workplace and let his goons harass BLM employees who, like, live there in Burns.

I think the Oath Breakers had enough of the Bundys at the ranch. Didn’t the they nearly come to blows then?

The unique mess of Mormon apocalyptic eschatology and sovereign citizen ignorance is going to have a limited appeal in the greater militia movement as they’re far more driven by their racism than anything else.

Egg-zackly. I suspect most ranchers out West grumble about grazing fees and such, because people always complain about paying stuff to the government, but it’s just all it is — grumbling. Unlike the Bundy clan, they’re law-abiding citizens, and they’re not going to take up arms against a government that’s been pretty good to them.

The same folks who see no problem with cops gunning down Michael Brown or any number of other unarmed young black men (or women) who did absolutely nothing to warrant police action in the first place other than walking/playing/talking/living while Black, suddenly think that a Bundy militia domestic terrorist had their hands up and wasn’t going for a gun in his jacket pocket?

The FBI/OSP knew who they were coming up against. They had all kinds of evidence against all those in that convoy coming out of the refuge. They knew that this one was angling for suicide by cop, and had indicated as much in public statements. He wanted a confrontation, and even attacked law enforcement by striking one with his vehicle. He ran a roadblock.

Cops used an appropriate level of force considering the situation and the remaining suspects were arrested without any use of deadly force.

My take exactly. But some “think” otherwise:

Helicopter cam? Really? What if what you’re really seeing is this? After the illegal killing there is a cover up. What if first they tote the rest of the detainees to jail, Then they have an agent put on the dead mans hat and vest.Next they reset the roadblock down the road just a bit and have an agent drive the vehicle in the same manner around the roadblock into the snow. The other agent proceeds to jump out with hat and vest on and he reaches for gun TWICE to make sure they can get it on video from the whirley-rig.Fake a shot from the shooter, then the cowboy hat wearing agent falls down. Did you see David Copperfield make the Statue of Liberty disappear?Of course you’re saying “THAT’S A CONSPIRACY THEORY, YOU’RE NOT ONE OF THEM,ARE YOU?” *Why would the FBI go expecting a firefight but what they had no dash cams? No helmet cams or body cams nor did the state police? We are suppose to be happy with TV like helicam?Got any audio?Yeah Sure,Sure……Of course that is just a wingnut conspiracy theory, however, a 2012 survey by National Geographic found that 77 percent of Americans think that aliens have visited Earth. The people get the government that they deserve.
