Ted Cruz Is a Dangerously Delusional Religious Fanatic

With a campaign full of extremists

In a race with religious fanatics like Mike Huckabee and Ben Carson, you really have to be an über-fanatic to stand out, and Ted Cruz definitely fits that bill.

As the elder Cruz explained, Ted and his family “spent six months in prayer” trying to decide if he should seek the presidency, which culminated in a two-hour prayer session at his church where his family and top advisers “spent two hours on our knees seeking God’s will about this decision.”

During that prayer session, Cruz’s wife received “inspiration from God” and told Ted to “seek God’s face, not God’s hand” and, at that moment, the Holy Spirit descended upon everyone in the room and convinced Ted to run.

“It was as if there was a presence of the Holy Spirit in the room and we all were at awe,” Cruz stated, “and Ted, all that came out of his mouth, he said, ‘Here am I Lord, use me. Here am I Lord, I surrender to whatever Your will for my life is.’ And it was at that time that he felt a peace about running for president of the United States.”

But wait, it gets even better. Cruz apparently believes he’s fighting a pitched battle against the Horned One. His Nibs. Yes, I’m talking about … SATAN.

SoundCloud

And Satan isn’t just trying to stop Ted Cruz from being elected president; the unholy one is also sabotaging the campaign’s cell phones.

The host kicked things off by claiming that the campaign is part of a conflict between Heaven and Hell, insisting that Satan “is always on the look out to distract any one of us who prays for our nation and for Ted and for this presidential campaign.”

Satan, she continued, is also “rejoicing over our communication problems,” claiming that technicians were working to defy the Devil by improving the campaign’s communication systems.

And this isn’t just talk, by the way. Cruz is filling up his campaign with religious extremists and whack jobs: Beyond The Pale: Ted Cruz Puts Extremists At The Center Of His Campaign.

Not that I believe in Satan, but if that entity did exist, then the Republican party in general and the candidacy of Ted Cruz in particular would be among his works.

The melding of belief, fanaticism, self-interest and cynicism is always very hard to refine. Because Poppa Cruz has long been part of the Benny Hinn travelling fleece industry, I suspect the whole bunch are far more cynics than true believers.

The weird thing is I can’t figure if Roger Ailes is actually for a Cruz Presidential face on the GOP ticket. Cruz is that unknown quantity that might backfire on the Republican establishment and actually set out to do what he says he will on his campaign.

.. Surely the wonks in those right wing think tanks have run the numbers on Cruz’s tax ideas and recoiled in horror at the massive structural budget deficit built into the equation. Not to mention the effort Cruz will undergo to undermine their authority and replace it with hardcore Christian cultists who genuinely believe they are helping to bring about Armageddon and a Rapture.

Should Cruz attain power, he will shed the faithful like a snake sheds its skin. (As soon as it becomes burdensome, after the re-election campaign.)

The last time we let religionist whackjobs get a hold of the Constitution we got the 18th Amendment.

It took the 21th Amendment to undo the damage.

I can’t see the two remaining GOP policy wonks being upset by structural deficits from a tax cut. That would just give the GOP more excuses to cut spending. Pure win, from a GOP point of view.

The W Bush years forever cured me of my delusions that Republicans actually care about having government financing be sound.

Evolution Is A Communist Lie, Gay Rights Endanger Children (Says Rafael Cruz) -youtube
Published on Nov 11, 2013
“Rafael Cruz, the father of Ted Cruz and the Texas Senator’s number one surrogate, is a favorite among Tea Party and Religious Right activists with his birther, Christian Nationalist and End Times-focused speeches. Back in June, he spoke to a Texas men’s prayer breakfast where he denounced the theory of evolution as a lie that, along with gay rights, will bring about communism…”.* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 2, 2016
Contact: Judge Steve Grasty
XXX-XXX-XXXX

The Harney County Court is aware of a “Letter of Intent” issued by the Pacific Patriots Network (PPN). That letter demands a response, but it is unclear from whom the response is requested and to whom the response should be provided. The County Court issues the following statement.

The PPN grieves “Immediate detention by investigating agency of the FBI special agent in charge along with all agents and LEO involved in the shooting death of Lavoy Finicum. A first hand eyewitness account in conjunction with the FBI released video presents reasonable probably cause for arrest while the investigation take place.”

SB 111 was passed by the 2007 Oregon Legislature. It has been codified as Oregon Revised Statues 181A.775 to 181A.815. These statutes require that any use of deadly physical force by a police officer which causes the death of a person be investigated. The Deschutes County Major Incident Team is investigating the circumstances of the incident. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is the lead agency on this investigation assisted by detectives from the Bend Police Department, Redmond Police Department and Oregon State Police. Due to the importance and complexity of such investigations, we anticipate the investigation will continue for several days to weeks. Harney County District Attorney Tim Colahan has transferred review of the investigation to Malheur County District Attorney stating that, “In the interest of transparency and to prevent any perceived conflict of interest, it is appropriate to have a district attorney with no prior involvement review the investigation. I have requested Malheur County District Attorney, Dan Norris, review the investigation and make a decision regarding the appropriate use of deadly physical force.”

PPN’s second grievance “Immediate removal of all militarized FBI personnel and equipment from Harney County. All State and County Law Enforcement officers are not included and requested to stay and assist in the process to keep the peace. We are requesting that the remaining occupants at the National Wildlife Refuge be dealt with by local and State law enforcement with the assistance of federal negotiators.”

Neither the Harney County Court nor the Harney County Sheriff has the authority to remove the FBI from activity on federal lands within Harney County, particularly in light of the continuing occupation of a federal facility. The recommendation of use of a federal negotiator is being followed.

PPN’s third grievance is “Immediate resignation of Judge Steve Grasty, Sheriff David Ward, County commissioner Pete Runnels, and County commissioner Dan Nichols.”

All four individuals decline this request.

Cool. So, if he wins, it’s what God wants, and if he loses, that, too, is what God wants. Got it.

Oh wait, nope:

Satan “is always on the look out to distract any one of us who prays for our nation and for Ted and for this presidential campaign.”

So, if Ted wins, it’s cuz God wants it, and if Ted loses, it’s cuz Satan is stronger than God, and, out of the 7.3 billion humans and myriad other creatures on this planet he could have it out for, despises Ted Cruz in particular (wow. Satan and I have common ground).

“Package sales” of alcohol were illegal in Lubbock until 2008. “Liquor by the drink,” ie bar and restaurant sales, had been legal since 1972 but the hooch could not be carried off the premises.
Lubbock has almost the same number of bars (216) as churches (224) but the large influx of package stores since 2008 has given the booze forces a decisive numerical advantage.

The 18th was not completely the fault of evangelicals. It was a misguided attempted by a coalition of groups hoping to end societal ills. Women’s groups and other progressives supported it as a means of ending domestic violence and poverty caused by fathers spending all their wages on alcohol.

Anyway speaking as a Cuban-American I’m so offended by both Cruz and his father. Evangelicalism is not part of Cuban cultural. Period. Its just another example of how both Cruz men are completely out of touch with the Cuban community. Bragging that your father helped Castro is just the most bizarre revelation any Cuban-American could make. Its like saying my grandfather helped Hilter before he knew he was bad. I know I’m being over the top, but to Cuban-Americans that’s what it sounds like. Its not an accident that neither Cruz and Rubio are polling well in the Miami. Jeb Bush is doing better with Miami Cubans. These two are just an embarrassment.

The real problem for Zika is for pregmant women. The fact that now there appears to be a new vector, that now complicates things. The big thing will be whether they can get a good cheap reliable test out until they can get a vaccine.

The Olympics is supposed to be in Brazil this summer. People from all over the world will be going there. Yesterday, they were saying that Zika is transmissible through sex.

Brazil really needs the Olympics. But, man, there is no better way to start a pandemic than have people from every country in the world conglomerating in a place that is having such a problem.

This is the guy Chris Hayes is treating like a responsible conservative voice: Ben Domenech.

Domenech was hired by the Washington Post’s online arm to write a blog providing “a daily mix of commentary, analysis and cultural criticism”.[25] Media Matters for America criticized the choice, claiming that “[t]here [were], however, no progressive bloggers — and no one left of center with the credentials of a political operative — on washingtonpost.com to provide balance to Domenech.”[26] Instapundit founder Glenn Reynolds told the New York Times that Domenech’s appointment attracted anger “because he was a conservative and he was given real estate at The Washington Post” and this spurred bloggers to find “something they could use to get rid of him.”[27]

“Red America” launched on March 21, 2006, but Domenech resigned three days later after only six posts, after other bloggers posted evidence that Domenech had plagiarized work from the Washington Post, The New Yorker, humorist P. J. O’Rourke, and several other writers. O’Rourke denied Domenech’s claim that the humorist had granted permission to use his words, adding that he could not recall ever meeting the college student.[10] Editors for Domenech’s college newspaper, The Flat Hat, denied allegations by Domenech that one instance of plagiarism was because the editors had “inserted a passage from the New Yorker in an article without his knowledge,” saying that “Mr. Domenech’s actions, if true, [were] deeply offensive.”[28] On March 24, 2006, the editors of National Review confirmed on its blog The Corner[29] that Domenech appeared to have plagiarized for at least one article he had written for that publication. Washington Post online editor Jim Brady announced Domenech’s resignation saying “[a]n investigation into these allegations [of plagiarism] was ongoing, and in the interim, Domenech has resigned, effective immediately.”[30]

After initially denying the plagiarism allegations, Domenech apologized, writing in a RedState post entitled “Contrition,” that “[t]here is no excuse for this…. I hope that nothing I’ve done as a teenager or in my professional life will reflect badly on the movement and principles I believe in.”[31]

More recently, Domenech was involved in a journalism scandal that resulted in the removal of his work from The Washington Examiner and the Huffington Post when it was disclosed that Domenech received $36,000 from Joshua Trevino, a conservative pundit and lobbyist, to write favorable opinion pieces about the government of Malaysia without disclosing the relationship. The payments came to light when Trevino registered as a foreign agent of the Malaysian government.[32]

After disclosure of the payments, The Washington Examiner and San Francisco Examiner, removed Domenech’s post from its website and replaced it with an editors’ note saying that “the author of this item presented content for which, unbeknownst to us, and in violation of our standards, had received payment from a third party mentioned therein — a payment which he also failed to disclose.” The Washington Examiner owned the San Francisco Examiner at the time and content was shared.[32]

But, I understand there is a cold front coming in from the back side of it up our way. Probably some snowing to occur. Hope not. We have been so low on snow this year. I hope it keeps up.

Is the moisture definitely from the Gulf? Because I smelled ocean here in North Texas yesterday and I thought I was losing my mind.

Coming back to work from a long lunch yesterday it was warm out, and humid, and the ocean smell was so strong I was having flashbacks to being at the beach in spring. It wasn’t just a salt air smell, but a real biological beach-rot smell like you get from seaweed and salt crust and tide water. I thought maybe Gulf moisture could retain an ocean smell for a little ways inland, but not hundreds of miles.

Hunt, 36, was appointed to the Legislature in January 2014 to represent the 2nd Legislative District of south Pierce and Thurston counties. He won election to a full term in November 2014 and is up for re-election this coming fall.

Sorry, but charitable solicitations are also exempt from the DNC.

The horrible thing is that all 4 of the calls you got today may have come from the same professional fundraising company, maybe even the same phone room. They are required to maintain their own DNC, so hopefully you will not be bothered again. However, it really might take a few days for you number to be cycled out of their systems.

One of the few positive things I can say about being a Comcast hostage customer is the fact their phone service allows me to block all anonymous callers and up to 25 specific numbers. This was especially handy as the pervious owner of my landline was on the run from debt collectors. I received hundreds of calls over the first three years I had it, nice to have been able to block the fuckwits who didn’t believe I was not the person they sought. Lately they are down to a trickle, but on the rare occasion I pick up one of their calls I laugh and tell them they are working for a bottom feeder among other bottom feeders.

I signed up for NoMoRobo about a year ago. It’s cut down on a lot - the phone ringer is turned off on all but one, and when I hear that one, I listen to see if it rings a second time. Nine times out of ten, it doesn’t. If it does, I pick up the phone and - if I didn’t recognize the number - wait to see what happens on the other end, because a lot of the robot calling things wait for a “hello” before they transfer you to a rep.

That accounts for nine out of ten of the calls that make it through.

The state party doesn’t track all of the coin flips, but following anecdotal reports of Clinton’s improbable luck on Monday night, Lau disclosed that it was Sanders who fared better in the games of chance that were reported through the party’s official mobile app. The Vermont senator won six of those seven coin flips—a fact that underlines how incomplete the available data remains, and the likelihood that a full accounting of all the coin flips on Monday night would yield a more even result than initial reports suggested.

I’ll have to check that out. I can’t turn my landline off because I make a lot of calls for work and often receive callbacks from numbers I don’t necessarily recognize. But, if it recognizes robos with that electronic delay before a live person comes on, it might cut down on these calls.

It is weird though, because I hadn’t been getting them at all for a long time and then suddenly last month, they’re coming in like gangbusters.
