Evil Clowns Fight in New Hampshire, Thread 3

Politics • Views: 43,041

Our second thread for the GOP debate is filling up fast, so here’s another one. Some of my reactions to this appalling clown show:

UPDATE at 2/6/16 9:09:44 pm by Charles Johnson

I watched the video again, and Donald Trump’s exact quote on torture was:

“I would bring back water-boarding and I’d bring back a hell of a lot worse than water-boarding.”

So ABC keeps giving us these cut aways of parties and pizza gluttony….

This really is sort of a mini-SuperBowl, no?

Closing statement time. Kasich has apparently been changed because he’s been hugged and now has hope. Yep, there’s a fork sticking out of him.

They weren’t ignoring you, Ben. They just thought it was impolite to interrupt your nap. There is a place for faith, integrity, and common sense, but your grift is nowhere near them.

Rubio’s going to stay behind to pick up his teeth.

It’s instead become that, because we’re the good guys, we can get away with doing that shit…provided we use the right terms to describe it. Thus it’s not torture, it’s “enhanced interrogation.”

If the Powers Incident had happened today, the GOP would be too busy crucifying the President to give much of a damn about Powers. And when the exchange happened, they’d demand the President’s resignation or impeachment for trading a Soviet spy for a “traitor.”

Trump’s assholishness has finally caught up with him and got boos where before it would have resulted in wild applause.

Cruz lied on live TV to cover up his own ratfking campaign and got called on it.

Rubio repeated himself four times and got pounded for it by Christie.

Christie sounded fairly good…until he stepped on his dick with the question about the Zika virus.

Kasich again found himself sounding too sane for the party whose nomination he is seeking.

Bush’s performance only missed his asking the audience for some pity claps.

And there was this other guy on the stage whose name I can’t remember.

I have to say even for a Republican I’ve never been particularly too impressed by Marco Rubio. He just comes off to me as the Republicans seeing what the Dems had with Obama, a young guy from a big state and an immigrant’s son and hoping they could strike lightening with that but the difference is Barack Obama is not only more intelligent than Marco Rubio by far but he’s more likable and someone who actually took his job as a Senator seriously.

Listening to the whole thing, it did seem to me that the crowd was more enthusiastic for Jeb! and Rubio, than their polling in NH would indicate their popularity.

Trump is running an insurgent campaign. He’s clearly gone outside the playbook of the RNC. I really think this GOP nomination process is all about whether an outsider can break the banks of the big roller GOP-insider donors.

Well as big as an asshole Christie and the others are, they are right about him. Rubio wants to have two faces on immigration. One that appeals to the Bill the Butchers that make up the GOP base’s mindset on immigration and the other that he knows without a sane immigration policy would have his family still in Cuba.

I’m not gonna lie, watching this moment from the debate put a huge grin on my face. It made it abundantly clear that bashing Obama is the only thing that Rubio knows how to do, and it was nice to finally see someone call him out on it, even if it was Christie. It reminded me of overhearing someone on Fox asking Rubio how his plan to defeat ISIS would differ from Obama’s, and he didn’t answer the fucking question. All he offered up was a diatribe against Obama, not a single policy proposal of his own. And of course he wasn’t challenged on it. So Christie’s done one good deed: he showed everyone that Rubio is nothing but an airhead who reflexively bashes Obama even if—especially if—it doesn’t fit the context. And with that, I need some water.

Holy fuck what did I watch tonight

Carson: Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I going? Why am here?
Christie: Superstorm Rubio
Rubio: Abort, Retry, Fail?
Bush: Maybe if I act angry
Cruz: I see dead people
Kasich: You changed me
Trump: Fuck y’all

This is what you watched tonight!

re: #117 No Depression

I’m not gonna lie, watching this moment from the debate put a huge grin on my face. It made it abundantly clear that bashing Obama is the only thing that Rubio knows how to do, and it was nice to finally see someone call him out on it, even if it was Christie. It reminded me of overhearing someone on Fox asking Rubio how his plan to defeat ISIS would differ from Obama’s, and he didn’t answer the fucking question. All he offered up was a diatribe against Obama, not a single policy proposal of his own. And of course he wasn’t challenged on it. And with that, I need some water.

Rubio’s whole Senate career let’s face it is based on bashing Obama. Charlie Crist would have cruised to that Senate seat if Marco hadn’t strummed up the Republican base’s hatred of Obama by pointing out that him and Crist had a cordial meeting when the Stimulus was pushed. Rubio is nothing without Obama to bash on. He’s a fraud. If the establishment gets their wish and he’s the nominee against Clinton, I think Marco would be in for the surprise of his life. I think there’s a reason why Romney didn’t choose him as a running mate and it’s because the guy as you’ve gotten at all he does is bash Obama rather than come up with real ideals of his own.

I think his line of “logic” goes something like this: The VA does a shitty job of caring for our veterans because we’ve gotten so soft and complacent that we don’t understand the sacrifices they make for our country, so he’s threatening to re-institute the draft if he becomes President (lol), teaching us what sacrifice looks like and thereby fixing the problem.

CNN’s gonna have their knives out for Tailgunner Ted:

For the record, CNN never issued a correction — and it never, ever reported that Carson was suspending his campaign. Earlier in the week, Cruz himself said that CNN got it “correct.”

In a statement issued mid-debate, CNN proclaimed:

What Senator Cruz said tonight in the debate is categorically false. CNN never corrected its reporting because CNN never had anything to correct. The Cruz campaign’s actions the night of the Iowa caucuses had nothing to do with CNN’s reporting. The fact that Senator Cruz continues to knowingly mislead the voters about this is astonishing.

This post will surely stand among several other ones like it — all hammering Cruz over the timeline and the particulars of this sequence of events. Will any of it matter? Probably not. Hammering CNN in a GOP debate, after all, is a proven campaign tactic in a GOP primary.

Ben Carson lives in a world where Michael Bay makes documentaries.
Marcobot’s OS went into a feedback loop.
Christie took great pleasure in nailing Rubio to the wall for being canned.
Bush finally showed signs of life days before his campaign ends.
Kasich lied his ass off while trying to act like he’s a bipartisan negotiator.
Cruz has no idea what carpet bombing is and suddenly decided his dead half-sister was worth exploiting.
Trump was Trump. He’s going to make all the deals and life will be great. *gag*

Which is why I prefer some form of universal service. No deferments and barely even medical exemptions - there is a task somewhere that can be done for almost everyone. Military service could be a random selection process out of the whole pool with no names or the like attached. Make everyone do at least a six week boot camp at that.

Bingo. Compulsory service. Nobody can dodge it.

And by saying nobody - you mean absolutely NOBODY. One rather shocking statistic that I discovered recently was that during the Vietnam conflict, non-US citizens were required to, and actually were drafted into combat service - including some cases where the the person was visiting on a non-resident visa.

Howard Stringer (Chairman, Sony Corporation)

Stringer moved to the United States in 1965. After working at CBS’s flagship station WCBS-TV for six weeks he was drafted into the United States Army, serving as a military policeman in Saigon for ten months in the Vietnam War.

What’s even more messed up about this is that even though he did a full tour of duty, he wasn’t granted US citizenship for almost 20 years (1985).

175
William Lewis  Feb 7, 2016 • 1:30:04am

I would say only citizens would be liable for service but that resident aliens could volunteer with citizenship automatically awarded on the completion of two years.

Thousands marched in anti-Islam Pegida rallies across Europe

A march by Germany’s anti-Islamic organisation Pegida drew thousands to the eastern city of Dresden on Saturday with rallies in support of the movement also held in a string of other European cities.

In Prague, around 5,000 people turned out for a Pegida-inspired march organised by two far-right groups, while in Amsterdam mounted police charged pro- and anti-Pegida groups and arrested at least a dozen people.

Another rally in the northern French port of Calais, home to the infamous “Jungle” refugee camp for migrants seeking passage across the Channel to Britain, brought about 20 arrests, local authorities said.

Police there responded with tear gas after scuffles broke out.

Or, people will see how awesome the VA is and start lining up to enlist. For the health care. ‘Cause that’s what people think about when they say “hmm, what do I want to do with my life and which career gives me great healthcare? Armed services it is”

North Korea also has a good rocket culture and if they had and food then I’m sure their BBQ would be quite delicious to. Though the politics of both places are equally oppressive, I’ll take Alabama because the winters are much better.

Morning!

So, the local Columbus NBC politics show followed Ohio Johnny Kasich around the campaign trail and the main theme is “I am calm and at ease on the trail and this is fun. I don’t worry about Trump….I run my own race.”

Wow! Groundbreaking insights.

But, what is odd, they are claiming Kasich as of late Friday night was polling in second in New Hampshire. What? Has anyone seen any polls to support that, or were the locals citing one strange and obscure poll that has him in second so they could make the locals feel good about their not-so-favorite son?

We will see Tuesday night if the debate had any impact on the voting. Rubio has been running second in the polls before the debate, but with the margins of error so high and so many candidates in the race almost anything could happen. The latest poll has Kasich tied with Rubio for second, for example. About the only thing the polls all agree on is that Trump will win with about 30% of the vote, give or take. Rawstory - Rubio: I would tell rape victim ‘it’s a terrible situation’ but have the rapist’s baby anyway

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) promised on Sunday that he would sign an abortion ban as president that provided exceptions for rape even though he preferred for pregnant victims to have their rapists’ babies.

Following a Saturday night’s Republican Presidential Debate on ABC News, host George Stephanopoulos noted during a Sunday interview that Rubio had been hammered for his belief that abortion was wrong even in cases of rape or incest.

“Abortion to me is not a political issue,” Rubio insisted. “It’s a human rights issue. And so, if [Jeb Bush] wants to make it a political issue, that’s his right. For me, it’s not.”

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh………that’s going to leave a mark.

Being the subject of ridicule is one of the worst things that can happen to a politician, as it makes it so easy for other candidates to attack them just by repeating the ‘joke’ as people enjoy hearing it.

For example Christ Christie is a terrible human being, and has done evil things….but because no one has reduced it to a joke that can be told about him, he’s been able to maintain his appearance as a serious politician.

Rubio isn’t going to be able to brush this off as making jokes about him robotically repeating lines cuts to the heart his problem of being a robot, and because it’s funny people can just repeat it until he drops out of the race.
