CBS News Republican Debate, Thread 1

The clown car arrives in South Carolina, disgorges clowns
Politics • Views: 40,475

CBS News isn’t making an embeddable live feed available (boo!) so you’ll have to watch it on your old-fashioned idiot box. But here’s our live-blogging thread to marvel at the antics of the remaining clowns as they pander to South Carolina.

Warning: this may be very nearly unwatchable because they’re all going to be heaping praise on Antonin Scalia. It will be interesting to see if they have the sheer crassness to start talking about blocking any nominations to the Supreme Court by Obama… oh, what am I saying? Of course they’re going to do that!

The longer the nomination process, the longer the SCOTUS balance is on the liberal side.

freetoken  Feb 13, 2016 • 6:01:00pm

These talking heads… discussing Trump criticizing Scalia on the race language Scalia used in that recent decision… and the talking heads trying to define “true conservative” by Scalia’s racism….

Well, yes. That is the problem we have in this country ; “true conservative” is code word for old-fashioned bigot.

But these talking heads just missed the irony lying in front of them…

I also think it helps the Dems at the polls too. I think if the GOP really wants to play this stupid game, the Dems should and I think will loudly call out this obstruction for the shit it is.

This is a Cruz-and-Bush crowd, judging by the applause levels.

If Germany hadn’t been so unutterably stupid as to send the Zimmermann telegram, maybe he’d have had his chance. But when Germany promised to grab chunks of the American southwest for Mexico, there really was no option but war.

The other thing it comes down to? Luck. Simple luck.

Justices who retire choose the timing, so they’ve generally avoided the last year of a Presidency. Apart from Rehnquist, the last Justice to die in office did so over 60 years ago.

Perhaps. I also wonder how much of Bush’s apparent ineptness was due to hiring bad advisors/cronies. I just get my back up a little bit when people call him stupid; he may have made a lot of bad decisions and mistakes, but he was at least moderately intelligent, as well as personable and down-to-earth, which is what got him elected the first time.

I think he did have bad advisers for sure.

re: #352 Aunty Entity Dragon

Just got a call from my mom. Her mom (my last grandparent) is in the hospital and not expected to live.

Positive thoughts/prayers/etc appreciated for my family. My mom sounded real bad on the phone.

Thoughts heading your way…and take care.

For the first time I start to believe speculation that this is all entertainment for Trump and that he’s looking for a way to lose before he gets the nomination.

One does not tell a crowd of Republicans the truth about the GW Bush administration lying the US into war in Iraq.
