Investigators Find Firearms, Explosives and Trench of Human Feces at Malheur Refuge

Patriotic poop
US News • Views: 49,895
Cliven Bundy, 74, at his first appearance in U.S. District Court in Portland. Sketch by Abigail Marble.

Investigators at the scene of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge have been discovering some interesting things left behind by the Bundy clan and their sovereign citizen accomplices: firearms, explosives and a large trench full of human feces.

But it was very patriotic human feces.

The FBI says it will take three weeks to clear the scene, because among other things (who’s gonna clean up that awful poop trench?) they’re concerned the fecal patriots may have booby-trapped some of the vehicles and buildings at the site.

Also today, a federal judge ordered Cliven Bundy to remain in custody because he’s a flight risk, citing Bundy’s “ongoing defiance of federal court orders.”

The explosives mean they are in a world of hurt, and if they find booby traps, these folks may never see life outside of a cell.

How completely not surprising that these so called patriots decided to shit all over our land.

By our land I mean land held on behalf of all Americans - a national wildlife refuge that is protected for future generations to enjoy.

These welfare queens don’t care about anything except what they can get for nothing.

And the Feds are calling them out on it. For instance, the feds’ papers on Cliven Bundy show he’s not much of a rancher. He doesn’t exactly know how to ranch. He just lets the cattle roam and do whatever, and then doesn’t exactly herd ‘em in. Pretty much the opposite of being a cattle rancher:

Judge orders Cliven Bundy held, citing ‘ongoing defiance of federal court orders’

[…]

U.S. Magistrate Judge Janice M. Stewart found Bundy, 69, remains a danger to the community and a risk to flee, citing his “ongoing defiance of federal court orders.”

If Bundy is allowed to return to his Nevada ranch, Stewart said she agreed with the government that it likely will be “the last we see of him.”

Bundy is expected to return to Nevada for his next court appearance, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Nevada. That suggests an indictment may be issued soon, canceling a scheduled preliminary hearing on Friday in Portland.

Cliven Bundy swiveled in his chair beside his court-appointed lawyer, his arms folded across his chest, and sat facing the prosecutor, listening as Myhre urged the court to detain him.

“He does not recognize federal courts - claiming they are illegitimate - does not recognize federal law, refuses to obey federal court orders, has already used force and violence against federal law enforcement officers while they were enforcing federal court orders, nearly causing catastrophic loss of life or injury to others,” Myhre’s detention memo said. “He has pledged to do so again in the future to keep federal law enforcement officers from enforcing the law against him.”

Well, Cliven will certainly have to deal with the reality of the concrete walls and steel bars.

In the report, CBS News correspondent Major Garrett said that social media was “abuzz” over a photo Bush had tweeted on Tuesday showing a firearm emblazoned with a personalized insignia that read, “Gov. Jeb. Bush.”

“There were some people who were supportive, but many said, ‘Your campaign is dying. Please, Governor Bush, don’t take your own life.’ Only in jest, but it shows you how painful things have become for Bush in South Carolina,” Garrett reported.

Bush is struggling to gain momentum in South Carolina and is currently a distant fourth with under 10 points in an average of recent polls.

In an email, Campbell described the report as tone-deaf and “inexcusable.”

Darwin Day proposal debated by Arizona Senate

[…]

Sen. David Farnsworth, R-Mesa, said he would have supported creating an Arizona Science Day. But this, he said, is quite different.

“When I was growing up in Mesa, I was taught in school the evolution theory that my ancestors came from monkeys,’ Farnsworth said. “Personally, I was offended by that theory, especially when you consider that I hold a deep-seated belief in creationism.’

He said it would be fairer to teach both evolution and creationism, both as theories.

“I believe that truth is absolute and that science and religion should agree,’ Farnsworth said.

Dreher has gone full metal Falwell over…surrogate mothers:

This practice should be banned. It is inhuman, it is unnatural, and it trains us to see human life as a commodity. C.M., the postal-working baby-buyer, might well be a creep, but if he were part of a stable, well-off couple, that would not change the morality (or rather, the immorality) of what he has done, and what his surrogate has done. Those poor unborn children, their lives nothing more than freight in a contract dispute.

Why does the state allow this? Why do we? Is this freedom? Is this what we will tolerate for the sake of choice? We are a country and a people that will destroy natural parenthood, marriage, childhood, and family, all for the sake of preserving the liberty of adults to do what they damn well please.

We deserve judgment, and we deserve it good and hard.

I will ignore the usual bizarre sexual connotations that wingnuts like to work into the exclamatory flourishes.

In Africa, famine, tribalism-driven genocide, systemic corruption, superstition and witchcraft preventing the dispensing of modern, effective pharmaceuticals and the proliferation of gender-blind education…were not created nor exacerbated by racial considerations.

An argument could be made, that European colonialism brought many more benefits than penalties. In fact, many who are not of African descent, have been tireless in their generosity over the decades; supporting charitable organizations, whose goals are to enrich and prolong the lives of those living in Africa.

[….]

Of course, NONE of that has anything to do with those in America, with access to generous entitlement schemes, who voluntarily drop-out of high school at >50% rate, commit a disproportionately high level of crime (especially violent crime) exhibit a tendency to riot, commit arson and go looting….using their tenuous connection to Africa as a justification.

Now we know what they were using the backhoe for. And if they did dig on the tribal site, well, rack up another charge for a quite literal ‘desecration of protected tribal site’.

I think it was on the Discovery channel there was a episode of a group of subsistence farmers up in Alaska and they had to dig a new outhouse because it developed a turd tower-and it was getting real late in the season and the ground was getting too hard, so they had to do a mass burn in order to soften it up enough and then they had to get a backhoe across a river in order to dig a new hole.

Dreher is unfit for the 21st century.

Any time assholes like Rod Dreher post huffy screeds about how awful advances in medicine like reliable surrogate discrepancies are (because they offend his 15th-Century views of Natural Order), I can’t help but think of a young couple we know (our best friends’ son and DIL). They couldn’t have children “naturally” (she was/is a cancer survivor), so they froze a number of (their own)fertilized eggs, and when they could afford it, had some implanted in a healthy surrogate (all legally OK - all i’s dotted and t’s crossed); who nine months later, delivered them a fine healthy boy: 100% of their own.
I’d really like to see Dreher try to explain to this now three-year kid how “unnatural” he is, and how he shouldn’t have been born. My guess is he would receive some fine hard kicks in the shins for his trouble: and well-deserved, too.

I won’t lie, she is uniquely qualified in a way we’ve never seen from any other candidate. Here’s someone who saw the job from an incredibly close up and personal perspective - who knows how much of a burden it is going to be, what the job looks like, what the schedule demands.

And has done her best to prepare for it, with actual knowledge of what she is preparing for.

And all that experience and knowledge is fucking required for her to even get a second look, because she’ has that uterus.

Basically, if there is a Circuit split and the Court ties 4/4 then the split will continue until the Supreme Court has a majority that issues an opinion that resolves the split.

Essentially that would happen. A major factor in the Supreme Court accepting cases is when there is a Circuit split on the law; to try and prevent inconsistency through the land.

I only saw signs about the eagles when I was there in late August of 2014. Was part of a long cyclical trip through Tennessee that also included Shiloh and a few other ACW battlefields. (Cornith, Murfreesboro, Franklin, and Chickamauga.)

You know, living in and around Nashville my whole life, I’ve never toured what’s left of the Nashville, Franklin or Murfreesboro battlefields (which are just running battles of the same overall campaign), mainly because a lot of it has been plowed under and built over the past 150+ years.

The Battle of Nashville battlegrounds, I drive on, past, or through a lot of it every day when I go to and from work; Fort Negley (which is city-owned) is really the only major area from that battle that’s been preserved. The Franklin battlefield has fared a bit better, with Carnton Plantation and the Carter House serving as the anchors for the city of Franklin’s effort to have an actual battlefield park, but most of the original battlefield was still lost to development over the years; Franklin is trying to buy some of that land back.

Murfreesboro has fared the best in trying to preserve its CW battlefields (which was helped by the fact that there were three battles around the area during the war); between all three cities, it is the only one that has a national military park (Stones River National Battlefield) and a national cemetery within the park’s boundries (Nashville’s national cemetery is just north of the old city limits and now stands across from a very large private cemetery [Spring Hill] in a heavily developed area of town, just about a mile or two from my house, far from where the Battle of Nashville happened; the old Nashville City Cemetery sits just south of downtown, right smack in the battle zone, and holds quite a few war dead).

A little related trivia: In 1831, Captain William Driver, buried in the Nashville City Cemetery, coined the nickname “Old Glory” for the American flag (more specifically, the American flag he flew on his ship when he was at sea and that he brought home to Nashville with him when he retired).

The original “Old Glory” was a flag owned by the 19th-century American sea captain William Driver (March 17, 1803-March 3, 1886), who flew the flag during his career at sea and later brought it to Nashville, Tennessee, where he settled. Driver greatly prized the flag and ensured its safety from the Confederates, who attempted to seize the flag during the American Civil War. After the war, Driver’s daughter and niece feuded over which of them owned the original Old Glory. In 1922, both flags claimed to be the original “Old Glory” became part of the collection of the Smithsonian Institution, where they remain today at the National Museum of American History.

I had an internet constitutional scholar tell me that the Senate can easily prevent Obama from nominating anyone until he leaves office by way of pro-forma sessions. All the GOP has to do is use the 8 recesses they have this year and enact a pro-forma session each time to stop Obama from doing anything at all.

They thought this was a good idea. Explaining to them that the GOP pulling this shit to block a SCOTUS nominee in an election year is suicide was futile.

The Franklin area is still all private or state-owned I think. The Carter house was one spot I visited, as well as a small park on a hill south of there which was the approximate location of Hood’s HQ during the famous assault.

The Stones River National Battlefield and the adjacent cemetery were interesting. Squirreled away on a secondary road where you can easily miss the main entrance. Good driving tour there, and I walked around quite a bit too once I caught up with a ranger-guided driving tour group.

Like you said, the Battle of Nashville stuff has been heavily built in and around. I did get to see the State Capitol while I was there walking around downtown. And I skipped Civil War stuff on my limited time there in order to visit the Hermitage.

Chickamauga was interesting in that it’s a pretty intact site, with a *lot* of monuments and markers. However, it’s concentrated mainly on the second day of the battle with the maneuvering and actions of the first day unmarked, lying outside the park, and pretty much ignored by the driving tour.

Shiloh is probably the gem since it’s easy to drive, bike, or walk there. Also the ebb-and-flow of the two days puts a mix of markers to find and help you interpret what was going on. I also like that they’ve added a side area where you can go see the remains of much older Indian mounds that lie along the river and thus mix in some older history with the Civil War side.

I hope they know they’re opening up the next Republican President to be treated like crap by the Congressional Dems after the way the R’s have treated this one. I also want to tell them if Obama is such a lame duck then you can shut the fuck up whenever you see him golfing or enjoying himself.

But it was very patriotic human feces.

You loved Scalia wingnuts? Well how about a left wing Scalia to mock your views and tell you that you view the Constitution stupidly. But I’m a pragmatic man and I’d settle for a reasonable centrist at this point because they’ll be a huge improvement over Scalia.

It’s a presidential election year. If they were doing this in a midterm, I’d feel more cynical but I think there will be blow back on this. But you are right, they did shut down the government and impeached a president over lying about an affair and the American people gave us two terms of Bush. I don’t know that I’d call that bias, exactly. If someone is running for office as a Republican, they are pretty much declaring a position I’m not likely to agree with. If a person is registered GOP, then the connection is a little looser. There are lots of places that the GOP primary is the “real” election so one needs to be Republican to have a voice and in that case the party may not represent one’s opinions.

As long as you give people some benefit of the doubt, you’re probably fine. You’ve always seemed pretty open and fair here.

Very nice!

re: #246 WhatEVs

That’s beautiful!

The thing about her stuff too is it doesn’t photograph nearly as nicely as it looks, because there’s a lot of beads and sparkly things and just gah. I love how they work up - her style is very art deco to me, and it works well.

I’m thinking on a mottled gray hand-dyed linen. I have one in a lighter gray, but that might call for a darker gray, so I’m debating.

Facebook Post

Tom is skiing on Kästle BMX 105s. That’s a serious ski, you kind of need to know what you’re doing to move that ski around.

Well, now we know that Tom has a place at Yellowstone Club. Of course he does!

I work with a couple of fellas at the ski shop who own homes at the Yellowstone Club. One guy’s neighbor is Justin Timberlake.

re: #250 calochortus

I don’t know that I’d call that bias, exactly. If someone is running for office as a Republican, they are pretty much declaring a position I’m not likely to agree with. If a person is registered GOP, then the connection is a little looser. There are lots of places that the GOP primary is the “real” election so one needs to be Republican to have a voice and in that case the party may not represent one’s opinions.

As long as you give people some benefit of the doubt, you’re probably fine. You’ve always seemed pretty open and fair here.

I guess you’re right about that. Maybe bias isn’t the right word. And thanks. Try to be fair but firm my beliefs.

That’s my biggest regret, not having taken creative writing. Good luck!

It’s a lot of fun. Keeps my mind stimulated.

re: #249 WhatEVs

It was earned, though. Much like my disgust with Sanders.

Yeah it was for sure. The thing I’ve tried like hell is to understand why someone may think a certain way but when I see shit like I’ve seen from that party the past seven years, I’m very much anti-Republican on principle. You give me guys like Cuccinnelli and yeah I am not going to think highly of your party at all.

Well, I can’t get to Glenwood Springs (30 miles from my house) without taking a 200+ mile detour. The interstate won’t open for some time.

Dreher has gone full metal Falwell over…surrogate mothers:

I will ignore the usual bizarre sexual connotations that wingnuts like to work into the exclamatory flourishes.

Yeah, but these same asshats like Dreher have no problem with forcing women into birth and into the market that is adoption.

Oh, a nice big Mississippian-era rock caught the truck!

A part of the Leadville Formation makes contact with humans.

Now this asshole (maybe) understands how some of us feel about that Bill Clinton quote that MSNBC mutilated (and which is still getting play at places like RawStory despite MSNBC’s day-late-dollar-short apology).

He “betrayed” them, as all politicians ultimately do…oh, wait, except for Stainless St. Bernie, the sun shines out his ass! They thought it shone out of Obama’s ass, but no, it’s Bernie’s! This time will be different!

Judge orders Cliven Bundy held, citing ‘ongoing defiance of federal court orders’

Have him post bail of $1.1 million, the amount he owes in grazing fees. Then, if he doesn’t show up for trial, he forfeits the $1.1 million bail and the government gets paid paid a good part of what he owes, which would probably be the only way the government gets a nickel out of this free-loader.

It’s 3 a.m., I can’t sleep, having just had my jaws unwired after *major* surgery, and “it only huts when I laugh” is literally true; and you mad my day!!! Thank you.
