Ted Cruz and Ben Carson Held a Secret Meeting in a Closet: ‘It Didn’t Go Well’

Dirty
Politics • Views: 49,790

What if Ted Cruz and Ben Carson secretly went into a closet together and spent a half hour in there?

I’m just askin’. Because this actually did happen. And only these two manly Republican men know what went down in that fateful closeted meeting.

We can report, however, that both men subsequently came out of the closet.

The two Republican candidates for president convened for a mano-a-mano meeting in an actual closet in an attempt to smooth over Carson’s allegations of “dirty tricks” on the night of the Iowa caucuses, according to a report from The Daily Beast.

But the meeting called by Cruz apparently didn’t go well, and ended with Carson concluding the two men would just have to “agree to disagree.”

The men spoke for nearly a half hour, according to an unnamed Republican operative who saw the meeting, which ran over into Carson’s allotted speaking time at the Conservative Review convention. An unnamed source close to Carson’s campaign told The Daily Beast that Carson had agreed to a 5-minute, off-the-record meeting before the convention.

Ben declined Teds offer to hire him as his driver and valet. It went south from there.

If I had to guess, I’d say Cruz made Ben an offer for his immediate campaign suspension, probably help paying off campaign debts and possibly a seat in the Cruz administration’s Cabinet. And Ben, being Ben, decided this means that Cruz is “afraid” of him and rejected the deal on the assumption that he can actually do well enough tomorrow to experience a rejuvenation of his campaign.

LOL!

A member of Carson’s Secret Service detail guarding the door told an operative simply: “Yeah they’re in that closet,” according to the report.

I guess I’ll ask the question we all want to know the answer to.

Did Dr. Ben ever make it out of the closet or is he still in there listening, in vain, to hear his name being called?

The thing is, with Carson’s campaign circling the drain, just what sort of boost does Cruz think he’d get out of negotiating his departure from the field? I don’t think a mumbled endorsement from Ben would do much to get people past just how punchable Ted’s face is. For all he knows, Carson’s supporters might break for Rubio or Trump.

Maybe slightly OT, but Willie Nelson recorded “Living in the Promiseland” in 1986. I just heard it again after years without it. It’s beautiful. The first verse:

Give us your tired and weak

And we will make them strong

Bring us you foreign songs

And we will sing along

This song should be played every hour on every station in every immigrant-hating burg in America, especially in Texas, until maybe it begins to sink in. I’m using my phone and don’t really know how to link to a performance. Maybe someone can do that for us?

We are the multitudes
Lend us a helping hand
Is there no love anymore
Living in the Promiseland

Living in the Promiseland
Our dreams are made of steel
The prayer of every man
Is to know how freedom feels

There is a winding road
Across the shifting sand
And room for everyone
Living in the Promiseland

Well, this is interesting.

Under terms of her court-ordered release, Anderson is required to find and maintain full-time employment or approved schooling, or a combination of the two, as directed by pretrial services officials.

She also is barred from owning or possessing firearms, traveling outside of Oregon or her home state of Idaho without prior approval, or having any contact with her co-defendants, including her spouse, who remains incarcerated.

She was required to undergo mental evaluation and counseling at the direction of the U.S. Pretrial Services Office.

You knew this was going to happen:

Pro-Cruz Robocall Attacks Trump Over South Carolina Confederate Flag

A pro-Ted Cruz super PAC launched a robocall on Thursday night to Republicans across South Carolina, attacking Donald Trump’s support for the removal of the Confederate battle flag from the state’s Capitol grounds last summer.

The 60-second robocall plays audio of Trump saying, “Let it go. Put it in a museum.” Trump’s voice continues, “Respect whatever it is that you have to respect because it was a point in time.”

“That’s Donald Trump supporting Nikki Haley removing the battle flag from the Confederate memorial in Columbia,” the ad’s narrator says.

[…]

Since I’m all jacked up on a Burger King Irish Mint Oreo Shake (don’t be judging), I’m going to call it Trump, then Cruz a fairly close 2nd (say <= 5 percentage points), with Rubio pulling the last podium spot. IF I were a betting man, I’d bet it Trump-Cruz-Rubio and if i wanted to wheel it, I’d wheel Rubio and Kasich in the 3rd spot. Bush will finish well out of the money, and as for Carson, he’ll still be trying to get out of the gate.

A new poll released by left-leaning Public Policy Polling released this week suggests 70 percent of Trump’s supporters think the Confederate battle flag should fly on the state Capitol grounds.

Shaftan, who lives in North Carolina, said he “couldn’t believe” Trump took the position to remove the flag, […]

“People feel very strongly about it here, especially Trump supporters,” Shaftan said. “That’s what surprised me — to see people who support the flag also supporting Trump. We’re trying to reach those folks who are having second doubts [about Trump].”

Are we surprised??

Meanwhile, Trump’s rhetoric plumbs new depths of depravity none could have even imagined a major presidential candidate achieving pre-Trump

Trump repeated - favorably - an apparent myth about how General John Pershing summarily executed dozens of Muslim prisoners in the Philippines with tainted ammunition during a guerilla war against the occupying United States.

“He took fifty bullets, and he dipped them in pig’s blood,” Trump said. “And he had his men load his rifles and he lined up the fifty people, and they shot 49 of those people. And the fiftieth person he said ‘You go back to your people and you tell them what happened.’ And for 25 years there wasn’t a problem, okay?”

The story appears to be a hoax spread via e-mail forwards, according to rumor tracker snopes.com, with no evidence it occurred.

It’s probably too early in the thread for this confession, but…

I’m obsessed with guitar pedal demos on youtube again. I hadn’t watched any for over a year. I banned myself because in an 18-month period I bought two ODs, a delay/reverb pedal, and the xotic boost pedal in the anticipation that I would play, at least, with my old band mates a few times (we’ve discussed it) or maybe find people around here. I wanted to change my sound.

I did.

But then I got a job in New England and can’t afford to fly across half the country for a rehearsal or recording session; and I have been too lazy to find players here.

And I rent a fucking townhouse with neighbors on either side of the walls, so I can’t crank. And we’d like to be homeowners. And I’m not really that good anyway.

But maybe one more pedal will change that equation…..

Good evening gang, I’m going to retreat to my bedroom and retire for the evening. It was an absolutely beautiful day here today, high may have touched 70. Exactly 1 year ago we had a high of 14 and a low of -8.

I know which I prefer. :)

Be good, and don’t forget to get your bets down on the next candidate to drop out.

re: #49 Blind Frog Belly White

Actually as a young man he was quite athletic. Then he got syphilis. Then he got injured. Had to stop riding and hunting. Didn’t stop eating.

True, but in the show he got never fatter. I admit I checked it once in a while over its run. There’s no pleasure like a guilty pleasure, as Henry might’ve said when he wasn’t acting like a prude (which was always).

Didn’t you used to pretend to be a libertarian?

Remember when you pretended to be a librarian, and everybody laughed until you showed your prowess at the Dewey Decimal System? Good times.

re: #88 Usually refered to as anyways

I bought a HD-500x by Line 6, its a lot of fun.
It has usb connection to a PC and has downloadable software.
I can sit at use it with headphones if need be.

I’ve looked at that and it looks very cool.

If I’m being honest with myself, I actually need to sell a guitar and a few pedals. I’m basically just tooling around.

re: #57 De Kolta Chair

Maybe it’s the craft beer talking, but I’m going to crawl out on a limb and call South Carolina for Cruz. He’s been drumming up the Pentacostals there like Gene Krupa at a reefer party.

re: #60 b.d.

My Biale Zinfandels make me bet my dough on Trump. I can be disgusted with Trump and looking for alternatives but shuddering when you realize the alternative is Cruz.

Side bet. Jeb doesn’t medal at all and the post primary talk all becomes about Jeb dropping out.

Go Mitt!

re: #64 Reality Based Steve

Since I’m all jacked up on a Burger King Irish Mint Oreo Shake (don’t be judging), I’m going to call it Trump, then Cruz a fairly close 2nd (say <= 5 percentage points), with Rubio pulling the last podium spot. IF I were a betting man, I’d bet it Trump-Cruz-Rubio and if i wanted to wheel it, I’d wheel Rubio and Kasich in the 3rd spot. Bush will finish well out of the money, and as for Carson, he’ll still be trying to get out of the gate.

On the ground here in South by dog Carolina all I hear and see is TRUMP. They’ve lined up to see him and get their pictures taken with him for months. And, at least at his local “headquarters” there are always cars there. I saw a string of Rubio signs yesterday—looked like one over-zealous supporter was staking them every 10 feet—sure that made a huge difference. Only seen one Cruz sign, and haven’t heard anyone mention his name. All anecdotal, of course.

Earlier today, a friend saw Brett Baer from Fox setting up shop for his show, and went up to him to show him a screen grab from that station where she (my friend) was on stage with Hillary at an event. Told him she didn’t watch his network, but was glad to be featured on it nonetheless.

Good stuff, thanks!

My pleasure. Plus, anyone who liked Lars and the Real Girl is OK in my book. I loved that movie—have watched it about 5 times.

re: #77 Big Beautiful Door

I think a segment of the people Cruz is trying to reach aren’t votin for no damn Canadian, so I’m going Trump-Rubio-Cruz-Kasich-Carson-Jeb?

Im thinking those same folks don’t want nuthin’ to do with no marcO rubiO, either. Too bad Jeb! is s pussy and Kasich comes off sounding oh-so-sane.

What to do? What to do?

Before backroom deals at a RNC convention there are the closet deals at the Conservative Review convention. I wonder if we will get an intimate picture of what went on in that closet. OTOH…
