Congressional Republicans won’t go for it, putting lie to the idea that they want the military to handle military matters. And Congressional Democrats will go for it…but hem and haw about how to handle it because they’ll be scared shitless of Republicans exploiting NIMBY sentiments among their constituents.

Just put this together in the last thread and when I posted it a new thread was born.

Also, do not miss the BeachDem comment about Kasich in the last thread. Must see Kasich “dickish” behavior.

- -

I think I will definitely watch the opening of Morning Joke tomorrow. I have a feeling Joke Scarborough is going to try to bellow his way out of being seen by the world as a Trump butt kisser. Mika will act like she just got caught in Trumps magnetic personality.

By the way…I just saw this image at Media Matters. It says it all.

Joke Scarborough: Have I told you how much I love you Donald? Maybe I should tell you again, and again, and again. Mika: Sigh. I know I shouldn’t but I want to!

Link to story and picture: Media Matters - 8 Things Trump And Morning Joe Hosts Discussed When Cameras Were Off

The 8 overheard exchanges.

- After Scarborough told Trump that “all the polls out today look great in South Carolina,” Trump asked Scarborough if he thinks super PAC ads against him are catching on, noting, “they’re spending $75 million in negative ads on me over the last two weeks.” Scarborough replied, “No.”

- Brzezinski pointed out what she described as a “wow moment” on the campaign trail when Trump brought two supporters up on stage. Scarborough told Trump, “We played it several times this morning.” Trump responded by telling the pair that he watched the show that day and observed, “You had me almost as a legendary figure.” Indeed, Gawker highlighted video of the hosts airing the video of the supporters that day on Morning Joe, which concludes with Scarborough calling the moment “quite powerful”

- Scarborough told Trump “we were completely wrong” in thinking he did poorly in the February 13 Republican debate. He later told the candidate that “the people who mattered” thought he did well.
- After Brzezinski thanked Trump for participating in the town hall event, Trump said, “I’m doing this because you get great ratings and a raise — me, I get nothing.”
Brzezinski can be heard asking, reportedly to a producer, “You don’t want me to do the ones with deportation?” which is followed by Trump saying, “That’s right, nothing too hard, Mika.”

- Trump asked Scarborough, “So what are the chances that something bad can happen on Saturday for me?” — an apparent reference to the South Carolina primary. Scarborough reassured Trump by pointing out that polls in the election so far have done a good job of predicting primary results.

- Trump and Scarborough discuss Trump’s golf game.

- Scarborough told Trump that National Journal columnist Ron Fournier “understands” Trump’s campaign now after visiting Michigan, where he “got an earful” from Trump’s supporters. (Trump said Fournier “has been brutal.”) Scarborough added that The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza “has completely changed,” and Trump responded, “Cillizza’s been fantastic.”

Sad thing is, he’s pretty much right. Even if Havana Ted could win the nomination, he can’t win the presidency. And the only way he’s winning the nomination is if Rubio sleeps with the fishes. At this point, barring divine intervention, Trump is the GOP’s nominee.

Probably not that much of the GOP, but I’d guess that five to ten million college-educated white voters will suddenly have pressing engagements that keep them from voting on November 8. We saw this in Louisiana where the Republicans’ nomination of David Vitter in the de facto GOP primary (John Bel Edwards was the only serious Democrat and thus sure to make the runoff) led to many Republicans simply staying home rather than choose between a Democrat and a Republican that they despise. The Democrats also modestly benefited from this in downballot races.

deep thoughts:

43
Feline Fearless Leader  Feb 22, 2016 • 6:42:43pm

If Trump wins the nomination the GOP will double-down on the down ticket races, GOTV for their side, and the voter suppression of the other side.

At that point their goal is to hold onto Congress - and simply ignore Trump. If Trump wins, they have someone who won’t veto all the stuff they want to pass in order to return the US to the 19th century. If Trump loses they have a scapegoat for any other failures, and if they retain control of Congress they are in position to obstruct the Democrat POTUS and wait for the mid-term elections to cement greater majorities and prepare for 2020. Possibly this time with a reasonable candidate.

Ted Cruz, making us pay any price for his election.

“…How much would it cost to “immediately and fully enforce current law”—that is, to deport all undocumented immigrants while preventing another wave of people from entering illegally?

The answer, researchers found, is quite a lot, both to taxpayers and the economy more broadly. Removing all 11.2 million undocumented immigrants, both forcibly and through Mitt Romney’s infamous “self-deportation” policy, would take about 20 years and cost the government between $400 billion and $600 billion. The impact on the economy would be even larger, according to the study: Real GDP would drop by nearly $1.6 trillion and the policy would shave 5.7 percent off economic growth.”theatlantic.com

NO SPOILERS!

Except for the Lizard Man episode, it sucked. Royally. The whole series played like Infowars fan fiction.

GOP talk of mass deportations is asinine, even for those who specialize in stupid and willful ignorance of reality, like Republicans.

Only one policy is needed to deal with illegal immigration. Employer sanctions. Any immigration plan that lacks this feature is profoundly unserious.

The impact on the economy would be even larger, according to the study: Real GDP would drop by nearly $1.6 trillion and the policy would shave 5.7 percent off economic growth.”

I dont’ think that number even tries to account for the add-on effects of civil disobedience, reprisals and counter reprisals that in some places may verge on guerrilla warfare.

X-Files

I have no idea. IIRC, there were two doctors credited with writing the script and Chris Carter directed. I honestly think Carter actually believes this shit. I’m guessing the doctors were there to give the episode a veneer of “SEE???? We got doctors on board with us, so this could TOTALLY HAPPEN!!!!”

Last week’s episode of “Let’s jam every stereotype about Muslims and Texans into one story” was really awful as well.

Almost forgot the closing tag on the spoiler button. You can send the checks tomorrow.

Autry said North Carolina law empowers the state with strong control over jurisdictions, allowing it to “preempt our authority. If the state wanted to, they could come here to the government center, fire all of us, send us home, and run the city themselves.”

They could even change the source of your water supply.

They’ll fall in line and crawl through broken glass to vote against Hillary.

Sadly, this is true. My otherwise sane Republican co-workers are slowly starting to rationalize voting for Trump in the general if he ends up being the nominee. They want to believe that he’d act differently in office, and they REALLY don’t want Hillary in the White House.

Personally, I’d tell them that President Hillary Clinton would be much better for business.

This is the intellectual disconnect in Trump supporters that just blows me away. The egregious cognitive dissonance in believing he’s a “straight shooter” who is telling the truth while also thinking his campaign is all sound and fury signifying nothing. The way his supporters can suborn and reward such overt racial and religious scapegoating in the fervent believe that Trump is being simultaneously honestly non politically correct (in reality “a bigoted asshole”) and totally cynical and insincere.
