Time Magazine Photographer Choked and Kicked by Trump Security at Rally

Escalating violence at Donald Trump’s rallies
Politics • Views: 42,262

With Donald Trump’s penchant for inciting anger and violence at protesters and media at his rallies, today it’s being reported that Time Magazine photographer Chris Morris was choked and thrown to the ground by a Trump security guard.

Morris told an NBC journalist earlier that he did nothing to provoke the violence, except to put one foot outside the press pen while photographing protesters.

UPDATE at 2/29/16 11:29:47 am by Charles Johnson

It’s being reported now that Morris was assaulted by a USSS agent, not a private Trump security guard, but isn’t yet confirmed by the Secret Service.

UPDATE at 2/29/16 11:39:22 am by Charles Johnson

Here’s video showing the entire assault — this photographer really was violently assaulted and choked.

Reminds me of George Allen calling the kid from Virginia a “macaca.” Allen FWIW is endorsing Rubio.

The original tweets indicated that this was a Secret Service guard, not a private security goon. Has that been clarified?

They probably get caught up in the hatefest, just like everybody else.

That one agent should be pulled off crowd duty until he learns a little restraint, though.

Good, but here’s the thing.

Everything that Trump says and does is only more explicitly stated than his rivals, who are more than willing to say and do the same thing.

Democrats need to tie all these threads together. The GOP is dangerous, and people like McCain enabled it (thanks to giving Palin a platform for her nonsensical ravings). The inmates now run the GOP asylum, and you can’t tell the difference between establishment and outsider since they’re only differing in presentation, not goals.

The Media And Trump’s Rally Thugs

“…First of all, too much of the coverage tiptoes around the looming threats of the Trump mobs. Following the incident in Lowell, where two men simply held held up signs that read “America Is Already Great” and “God Bless President Obama,” only to have their signs torn up by a mini-mob of Trump supporters before being escorted out by cops — the Washington Post suggested the incident was just another one of the “colorful ejections” that have come to define Trump rallies. The Post also suggested the sign-holding men had “disrupted the event,” not the Trump thugs who turned on them.

Meanwhile, Politico last week cheered the violent Trump events as being “fun.”mediamatters.org

It’s the primaries. While I find their attacks mostly unhelpful, your opponent in the primaries is someone on your side. I actually think it’s better that we’re not doing a whole lot about the Republicans right now. They’re doing just fine destroying each other without being distracted by “Look at what Hillary said.”

Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse telling the Drumpf bots that it’ll be a cold day in Hell before he votes for Donald:

[Embedded content]

In his Facebook post he states:

Mr. Trump’s relentless focus is on dividing Americans, and on tearing down rather than building back up this glorious nation. Much like President Obama, he displays essentially no understanding of the fact that, in the American system, we have a constitutional system of checks and balances, with three separate but co-equal branches of government. And the task of public officials is to be public “servants.” The law is king, and the people are boss. But have you noticed how Mr. Trump uses the word “Reign” - like he thinks he’s running for King? It’s creepy, actually. Nebraskans are not looking for a king. We yearn instead for the recovery of a Constitutional Republic.

Of course he had to compare Trump with President Obama. Damn Republicans always have to get their talking points in. And he continues after this part to get in even more GOP talking points.

Maybe TRUMP getting the nomination is what Mr. Sasse deserves. Then he can come to grips with why. Who knows maybe his own state’s GOP base will be pissed at him for dumping on Trump and run him out of office next time his election is up.

What gets me is that the Republican southern strategy was probably unnecessary. Bigots felt betrayed by the Democrats big time in the civil rights era, and many of them would have started voting Republican with no encouragement from the GOP at all.

Instead the GOP send out the welcome wagon, and we see the results of this very clearly with Trump.

Sasse’s remarks demonstrate exactly why Trump has been able to seize the electorate.

To ding Trump, Sasse has to create a fictive narrative of evil liberal abuse of power by Obama. For his audience to accept Sasse’s critique as useful and powerful, they have to not verify whether his allusion is grounded in reality. So the assessment actually reduces to—Obama bad! Be scared! Trump bad like Obama! Be scared!

This is how we ended up with such a nakedly deceptive, melodramatic candidate dominating the GOP. The audience is already used to heightened emotional performance and pre-established characterization tropes. They’ve already been taught that most sources of skepticism are poisoned wells, and “Truth” emanates from a small set of key figures…who do not have to actually prove their statements.

Nearly 20,000 Bay State Democrats have fled the party this winter, with thousands doing so to join the Republican ranks, according to the state’s top elections official.

Secretary of State William Galvin said more than 16,300 Democrats have shed their party affiliation and become independent voters since Jan. 1, while nearly 3,500 more shifted to the MassGOP ahead of tomorrow’s “Super Tuesday” presidential primary.

Galvin called both “significant” changes that dwarf similar shifts ahead of other primary votes, including in 2000, when some Democrats flocked from the party in order to cast a vote for Sen. John McCain in the GOP primary.

The primary reason? Galvin said his “guess” is simple: “The Trump phenomenon,” a reference to GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, who polls show enjoying a massive lead over rivals Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and others among Massachusetts Republican voters.

This year’s count of 6,250 manatees is similar to last year’s count of 6,063. Both years had very good survey conditions and 2015 and 2016 are the only two years on record for which the count has exceeded 6,000 individuals. Because some animals go undetected, these counts represent the minimum number of manatees known to be in the survey area on the day of the survey.
“Weather conditions can greatly impact our counts. Fortunately, the conditions during this year’s survey were very good,” said FWC biologist Dr. Holly Edwards.

It is probably a little bit of that, but I would be willing to bet a lot of blue collar union democrat types are switching to Trump. In my experience they can be as racist, xenophobic, and misogynist as any rwnj. Especially in the construction industry they do blame stagnant and falling wages on illegal immigrants, so Trump is definitely pushing their buttons.

Elections can do strange things to people.

Lidane  Feb 29, 2016 • 1:22:06pm

Want to know just how craven and desperate Christie’s endorsement of Trump was? He apparently did it without even consulting his most trusted advisors:

Back in New Jersey, county GOP leaders were taken aback because they were supposed to meet with Christie this week, when they expected to talk about possible endorsements. They were also starting to coalesce around Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, whom Christie harbors personal disdain for (the New York Times reported Christie thought Rubio was disrespectful to him in a recent voicemail message).

So Christie didn’t want to back Rubio and he needed to act fast — supporting Trump before Super Tuesday, which could propel the candidate to the nomination, maximizes the value of an endorsement.

It’s frustrating as hell. I mean I could deal with the diehards much more if they could just see that Bernie does many of the same things they think are unique to Clinton. I’m really not in favor of first-term Senators running for POTUS—and yes I realize Obama did this (and I believe Edwards was at the end of his first term when he first ran).

In Obama’s case, I’ll only say that at least he was running on a bi-partisan, bring-everybody-together kind of platform. I know wingnuts don’t see it that way, but like many Democratic centrists of years past, he ran attempting to sidestep and transcend ideological divisions. And there’s just a dignity about Obama that made it not seem like a ridiculous decision to vote for him.

But the Cruz-Rubio-Paul gang have been all conservative ideology all the time. Nothing high-minded about any of their campaigns. That makes their ambition and inexperience particularly worrisome.

But in general I’d would prefer POTUS candidates to have run for re-election in some notable office before making the big leap.

My Great Grandmother died 3 days after her 100th birthday. She’d fallen a week or so before, broke her hip, and never came out of the anesthesia. But she held on till she passed the day.

When she was 98, she said to me, “Dougie, don’t get this old. I’m just tired all the time.”

re: #263 Fourth Football of the Apocalypse

If we lived in a sane country, this would have been generally acknowledged. That it wasn’t is pretty much diagnostic.

Honestly I don’t get hung up too much on experience. I want someone who seems like they’re up to task. I got the impression Obama was up to task for the job. I have not gotten that vibe with Rubio and looking back on it, I didn’t with Edwards either. I think Kerry messed up by making Edwards his VP pick. Not as bad as Palin for McCain of course but not as wise as Gore for Clinton or Biden for Obama. Granted Kerry was plenty experienced in his own right so he was in a different situation than Clinton and Obama were. going in.

I’d add that Rubio’s cynical dismissal of his own Senate seat leaves one with the impression that he saw it only as a necessary step in his ascension.

Cruz, say what you will about him, seems to take the job seriously at least in the sense of wielding power to do evil.

Yeah I’m just saying my preference would be that Senators in their first term not run for POTUS.

America’s relatively short history is already littered with cases of how poorly some very experienced candidates have done in the presidency—Buchanan, Hoover—being I think the most prominent. So experience not always a good judge of performance.

The actual paradox is that if you have approximately 23 people together, the probably that two of them have the same birthday is a little over 50%. The probability that someone has the same birthday as you in a room of 20 people is 19/365.2414.

The current GOP conundrum in a single question:

“Who will bully the bully?”

This guy will.

That’s true as welll. There’s the birtdhay paradox which I think is if you have 20 or so people in a room, you’re likely to share a birthday with one of them. I’ve never met anyone who shares my birthday. However in my family we do haev some people whose birthdays fall within a week from each other.

I have only four first cousins and share a birthday with one of them. (8 years apart, but same date.)

This Map Visualizes China’s Growing Military Capabilities in the South China SeaShows how far off shore these installations are for China, kinda hard to argue part of China.

re: #334 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave to the waffle light)

I remember when the GOP was pushing the “We built it!” meme (as a counter to Obama and Warren’s “You didn’t build that!”) and some fellow at the 2012 GOP convention placed the “WE BUILT IT” banner directly above a US debt clock.

Thanks. I did not know about that most excellent bit of humor. It’s still the top hit for a Google image search of ‘“we built it” debt clock’.

(pedantry warning: the sign is below the debt clock, but this make no difference)

I don’t share a birthday with any of mine but my brother is only 4-5 days older than one of ours. My brothers and I were all born in different decades. Granted they at the beginning of them and I at the tail end but it’s still something.

I share a birthday with four other extended family members. Late March seems to be a popular time for popping — my mom has said that the maternity ward nurses used to joke about ‘the March influx of June brides’.

re: #308 Wendell Zurkowitz (slave to the waffle light)

I cannot say that I have met anyone personally who shares my birthday (to my knowledge at least) Odd. Anyone on line here born on March 31st?

My grandmother was born that day, 1892
