Tech Note: A Big Improvement for Mobile Users

Our front page loads much faster

If you’re browsing Little Green Footballs on a mobile phone tonight, you’ll notice a huge improvement in the speed of loading our home page. Today I implemented some code that serves tiny smartphone-sized images for all the front page articles if you’re using a phone, instead of full-sized images scaled down by the browser.

This means that loading the front page on a mobile phone is now an order of magnitude faster and uses much less data bandwidth; the images for our articles are now typically in the neighborhood of 10-20K instead of 100K or more, so you should notice a rather large improvement. (On a desktop computer or laptop, you’ll still see the full-sized high resolution images, of course.)

Another enhancement implemented today: embedded tweets now automatically recognize Twitter videos, so if a tweet contains a video it will render as a beautiful full-width video. All you have to do is post the web address of the tweet in a comment or LGF Page; the rest is automatic.

This is what a full-width Twitter video looks like:

And one more improvement to note: the “Featured Pages” and “Recent Pages” lists in our right sidebar now include images (scaled for the smallest possible download, of course!) for any LGF Page that contains a “meta image.”

It’s my Friday night from the ski shop. I’m partaking in some herb, as is my wont on a “Friday” night. I’m still amazed and befuddled at legal cannabis in my state. The closest weed store from me is about 10 miles. It’s called Sweet Leaf Pioneer. Yeah, the nearest weed store is named after the Black Sabbath song.

My Chinese friends here are perplexed that marijuana, which is strictly illegal in China, is freely available in some parts of the USA.

China’s penalties for use are bad (a long imprisonment + deportation if you’re a foreigner), but not as draconian as those in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, where even possession can bring the death penalty.

I don’t partake, so it doesn’t affect me, but tokers should be careful when traveling in Asia. You can get weed, but being caught with it has dire consequences.

Verizon wireless sucks. My phone is off because they apparently did not credit my last payment to my account with them. My credit card was billed for the requisite amount. Their customer service now refuses to talk to me because I do not have current service. They want me to make another payment so I can ask them what happened to the last payment. My response is a big “FUCK YOU.” From an internet search, it appears that this “misdirected payment” crap is a big issue with them. Before they stopped talking to inactive customers entirely, they apparently just advised people to contact their own bank, as though the bank could do anything besides tell the customer that the money was paid to Verizon. I am going to switch providers as soon as I can get another phone, and I will be filing a complaint with the FTC and the Texas Attorney General’s office. I have been toying with the idea of hiring a private attorney, too, though this would cost many times what the bastards owe me. It might be worth it.

Tuesday, Trump is holding rallies first in Ohio, then Kentucky, then finally at his club in Palm Beach.

The latter is a “press conference” - evidently to talk about the day’s victories.

But rumors are flying that Gov. Scott is going to be there to give his endorsement.

If that indeed happens, then we can’t pretend that Christie/LePage endorsements were just anomalous.

For those who missed it, on Monday morning, the racist group ALIPAC endorsed Trump:

[…]

William Gheen and ALIPAC are announcing this unprecedented endorsement of Donald Trump with the hope of helping Trump fulfill his campaign promise to deport all illegal aliens as current US laws and the Constitution require. It is also hoped that endorsing Donald Trump will bring more attention and energy to the down ballot candidates facing off against the 178 Cantor List Republicans who support the same kind of amnesty for illegals that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama support.

“We will fight tooth and nail for Donald Trump until the last day of his second term as long as he stays true to his GOP Primary supporters and his promises to deport illegals, build a substantial wall, decrease legal immigration levels to help American workers, and end dangerous Muslim refugee resettlement programs,” said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. “However, we do plan to oppose any touch back amnesty plans for deported illegal immigrants. ALIPAC stands behind our current laws that say any illegal immigrants deported from the United States are prohibited from legal entry for a minimum of ten years, and we hope Mr. Trump will honor that law when our members of Congress refuse to change it.”

Here in my little town (Brookings) in Oregon I have five stores within stumbling distance, I mean two miles. I don’t smoke bud as much as I used to but I dab like yabba-dabba-doo! Just hit on some Looking Glass Raspberry Kush a bit ago and have a few other of my favorite flavors on hand. One of them is the Looking Glass Live Cinex, which I think is a missed opportunity in naming as it’s a hybrid of Cinderella 99 and Vortex. When I read that I immediately truncated it to Cindy Vortex, Jimmy Neutron’s romantic interest.

Gotta blast! :)

You have my understanding and sympathy. May our (and other states) trailblazing help to bring enlightenment and sanity to your state once they see that we don’t go up in smoke. Hell, other than the dispensaries becoming stores plus the opening of a few new places, you would be hard pressed to know that anything has changed here. One thing going for us is that we were primed and ready to go (growing-wise) since we were already a medical marijuana state so there was a lot of crop on hand.

It sounds like CA will finally be getting their shit together soon. I was pissed that I moved from Washington to Oregon years ago and then Washington up and legalizes it first. I figured Oregon would have done it first and California would have beat us both but oh well…

I like the diesel strains, very tasty. I finished up some Blue City Diesel crumble the other day and now am working on some Master City Diesel (both are Pangaea brands). A local grown favorite is the Bob Harley (Ricky Bobby Kush/Harlequin hybrid) shatter, smooth and potent.

Whatever you do, avoid Phyre Extracts OG Kush… I think it tastes like what a dab would taste like if Satan dragged his testicles through it, like sulfur and salt. The same goes for Pop Naturals Bubba Kush.

You are flat wrong. Dangerously wrong. Trump got this far because his GOP rivals tried it your way. His reputation needs to become synonymous with the racist bigotry he’s been fomenting. I think a lot of us knew this would eventually happen. Warren was the person the emoprogs were counting on to take them to the Promised Land and she (smartly) declined to run this year and instead focus on the work she can accomplish in the Senate. So having her dub Bernie as her champion would be the next best thing in their minds, which is why they’re mobbing her in an effort to get her endorsement for him.

One consoling factor is that all the tactics that were so successful for DT in the primaries are not going to work in the general. Are we really going to tell the last few survivors of the Nazi death camps that we’re not going to repeat their warnings because it makes certain people uncomfortable? I’m sick to death of the tone policing surrounding this, Trump is a fucking racist, wannabe totalitarian menace. Even if he never becomes President he’s on track to get people killed due to his out of control bigoted rhetoric.

It’s long past time everyone stopped trying to play nice and just viciously tore him and his supporters down at every opportunity. After all they’re bullies, the last thing they’ll ever expect or want is for this fight to visit them in person. Being a Trump supporter in public needs to become a very uncomfortable thing.

No offense, but the sticking to objective facts bit will only get you so far in an election against a man whose followers love that he just ignores facts and tells them what they want to hear. I mean, nobody in their right mind thinks the man is going to build an enormous wall and get Mexico to pay for it, but his followers do because they want to believe it is true.

If you need a better example, it wasn’t objective fact that allowed Bush Sr. to crush Dukakis in ‘89, it was Willie Horton and a picture of him riding in a tank. Likewise Dubya ratfked his way into the White House, leaving three better men as casualties in his wake. And the only reason Jeb? didn’t follow in that tradition is because The Donald gelded him on live TV in the very first debate and spent every following debate reminding folks of that.

They absolutely will if the Dems take your advice and pussyfoot around what he really is. He needs to be hit so hard and so fast that he’s terrified of the idea of debating Hillary in person. As I said earlier today they need to come out in a prison yard rush and just overwhelm him with his own vile positions and statements, explicitly labeling him as a racist bully deserving of no respect whatsoever. He’s gotten this far because he hasn’t really been opposed. Under a stream of unrelenting attacks and pressure his campaign will flail, make a series of terrible mistakes, and eventually drown.

Look at the GOP race and think seriously about the idea of meeting bombastic rhetoric and lunacy with objective fact. At different times in the race, Paul, Bush, and Kasich tried to argue objective fact as a counter to extremist rhetoric. Two of them are now gone and the third is likely to be gone by month’s end.

I keep hearing the same thing from Trump supporters as I heard from Dubya supporters, and Reagan supporters before them: “He makes me feel good about America.” The man can dial back the hatred and keep pushing the “Make America Great Again” shit and win a lot of people who will have suffered amnesia between now and November. Just for example, I was talking to the guy at Firestone the other day while my car was being worked on about the election. And this was a guy whose experience I respect, so when he told me he thinks Trump would be good for the nation because he’s a businessman and that’s the sort of person we need in the White House to get the economy moving again, it was everything I could do to keep my jaw shut.

What works well in the GOP race is not necessarily going to be effective when the message is addressed to the rest of America that is not under-educated, alienated and vindictive.

GOP candidates made the mistake of assuming that there was a majority within the party that was not bigoted and petty.

Fuck the discussion. His supporters are backing a fascist who terrifies the few Holocaust survivors we have left. You can’t reason with them, but you can point out to others that it’s not just ex-Presidents of Mexico making the comparison, but people who actually lived under Hitler. People who Hitler tried to kill and who survived against the longest of odds.

I want to be absolutely clear here, not listening to them, not repeating what may well be the last warning these people issue to the world before they’re all gone because we’re afraid of how some assholes might receive it, constitutes the absolute worst kind of cowardice.

No offense, but you have a much higher opinion of the majority of American voters than I. There’s no question that Trump has pretty much alienated much of the minority vote now. But in 8 months, a lot can change. There’s a lot of folks who are like that mechanic I brought up, putting politics in general and this election in particular lower on their list of priorities than the next paycheck or the pile of bills at home. They’re not sitting up at night to watch the debates, they catch snippets on the morning news with their first cup of coffee and in the evenings as they’re nodding off. Most have no clue about the sort of shit Trump’s saying out on the campaign trail, all they see is a guy who has spent years crafting this image as a titan of business and think “That’s the sort of guy we need running things.”

Don’t think that can work? Pull out a Ouija board and give Reagan a call.

Perhaps the discomfort that arises from comparing Trump to Hitler is rooted in the experiences we’ve all had with Godwin’s Law on various sites.
The difference here is that we are actually seeing a candidate being carried forward on a wave of rhetoric that appeals to the ignorance and racism of those who see themselves as the soul of the nation, beseiged by invaders and traitors.
He has made no secret of his desire to mete out the worst tortures imaginable to enemies real and perceived.
He has singled out the press, time and again, for especial vitriol and has recently gone so far as to advocate for anti-Constitutional measures to silence his critic. Fuck, just today a photographer was subject to attack by Trump’s security detail. Professionals who are presumably trained to ignore politics and protect the candidate with force only in the event of a serious threat.
Mexicans are rapists.
Muslims are terrorists.
Retweets white supremacists.
Fantasises about killing people to prove a point and beating up protesters.

Is currently killing it in the popularity polls in a party predisposed to authoritarianism, voter suppression and the enrichment of the real oligarchy.
It is a campaign that shrouds itself in a piety which, though laughably transparent, is nonetheless drawing the credulous in with promises of restoring Christian supremacy in a land which is neccessarily divided into religious and public spheres.
I could go on.

Maybe the Godwin Aversion Threshold ought to be recalibrated coz I think it counts here.

BTW, HappyWarrior,

I agree that Montreux is a great place to visit. However, Switzerland is stupid expensive, and Montreux is STUPID expensive, so I’d recommend looking for a hotel in one of the small towns west of it. There’s a small, cheap, commuter rail that should connect you easily, or it’s a pleasant lakeside walk. (I stayed in the Montreux youth hostel, which was a nice hostel, 20 minutes from either Montreux or Chateau de Chillon, and a few minutes from a train stop.)

Also, a nice day trip is to take the train into the mountains and visit Gruyeres (which also, weirdly, hosts a Giger museum - said it was weird) and go further to a cheese factory and the Callebaut chocolate museum. There are tour companies, but it’s easy to do on your own. The train is one of the heritage lines, and the views are spectacular rising into the mountains above the lake. Overall, though, Montreux is a good stop for when you’re burned out being a tourist and just want to relax in the sun by a gorgeous lake.

Also also, if you make it to Hamburg, drop me a line. Even if you want to meet up in Berlin, I haven’t been in forever and love the city. :) (Hamburg does have an Emigration museum as most of Central Europe emptied out through it in the 19th century - I know ancestry research is an interest of yours. Otherwise, while it’s a really pretty city and seems to get a lot of tourists, I don’t see it as a major tourist stop.)

I don’t think that the comparisons are not valid, I just don’t see them as a means of materially helping the case against him right now. It should suffice to point out the damage that DT and his party will do to this country if they are allowed near the White House.

Really, who are we counting on to counter Trump’s rhetoric at this point?

His party? Rinsed is already preparing to take a huge bite out of this shit sandwich while his fellow candidates flail as they try to find a way to denounce Trump for all the hate he’s spewing while keeping the base who’s lapping up that hate happy.

The media? They’re totally invested in the spectacle of a Trump nomination now, imagine how much they’re gonna be invested in a Trump presidency? And don’t look to people who spent the 90s engaged in “The Great Penis Hunt”* to come to Hillary’s aid in tearing down the guy they want to see in the White House.

SuperPACs? Perhaps they might lend a hand, but only with the aim of salvaging the GOP’s Senate majority. And even they will respect the same sort of limits that the GOP is imposing upon itself to avoid totally pissing off the base.

It should suffice. Ordinarily it would be. I’m not so sure now. Plus, if these fanatics aren’t properly chastened, not only in the election, but personally - by disgusted friends, family and co-workers - they’ll be a constant plague on the electorate until they start dying off.

I don’t think it will suffice to run a normal campaign against Trump in the general election. His supporters don’t care about Trump’s lies, blowhard tendencies or deviations from party orthodoxy. Trump is already saying some populist things in the GOP primary (e.g., tax the rich more, stop the job outsourcing) that may let him pick up votes in the general election that a normal GOPer would have no chance of getting. This makesTrump terribly dangerous and hard to predict/poll in the general election.

I agree with GDF that the Democrats need to go all out vs. Trump, and not shy away from making the obvious parallels between Trumpism and fascism/Naziism a part of the campaign.

Trump needs to be branded as a fascist wannabe, and the Republican party needs to be branded as fascism waiting to happen because of its self-propagandized collective delusions. This should be done in addition to all the normal negative campaigning vs. Trump’s lies and stupid blowhard statements.

Given the state of the US media, this may or may not work, but it has to be tried. It would not be acceptable to hold anything back in the fight against Trump and this Republican party.

Trouble with comparing Hitler’s and Trump’s words — Hitler had a better command of language than Trump does. Trump’s speeches are more like random statements spoken in more or less a cyclical order, with lots of adjectives thrown in.

And there’s the third group which seems to be the biggest in an election year, the people who are willing to overlook flaws in a candidate if they are selling a product that sounds appealing. They’re the “mushy middle” we hear and talk about in election years, the ones who are taken in by populist appeals and campaign promises that the rest of us know will never come true. They’re going to take in “Trump contradicted himself!” in with “Hillary said one thing and then another!,” campaign noise that will be lot in the background.

Ponder this argument a sec: Avoiding bringing up the Hitler parallels and focusing just on how shitty a candidate Trump is not only lets him off light, it lets his supporters off light. If he falls flat on his face in the general election, then they can sweep him off by saying he wasn’t sufficiently dedicated to the cause and go looking for somebody who can actually carry things all the way to the White House. There has to be an absolute line in the sand in our political system, past which you become immediately and irreversibly toxic to the body politic. Else the next guy is just going to pick up where Trump left off and push things until he finds a winning formula. And part of doing that is pointing out that, while Trump may not be serious, the next guy in line very well could be. And that a lot of people didn’t think Hitler was a threat to democracy until that democracy was in shambles.

Hitler got into a position of power, then quickly orchestrated a total takeover of the government, placing himself as supreme leader. The danger with Trump, being the autocratic businessman, is that he’ll try the same thing. He’d run his Cabinet meetings like episodes of the Apprentice, ignore his advisors, and trash international diplomacy.

96

In looking over quotes by Hitler at Wikiquotes, I’m struck by the number of times he refers to Providence and the will of God to justify his actions, or to explain success and failure.

Just a random observation.

Just keep in mind that Godwining is heavy juju and should not be tossed about lightly - it can backfire, or simply derail and dilute the discussion.

And it is totally lost on people who do not understand that historical parallels and similarities do not constitute historical equivalences.

My main concern with Trump as a nominee is that it would only take one major catastrophe: a terrorist attack or some imported epidemic outbreak, or some natural and/or man-made catastrophe that paralyzes public services and law and order for a large number of people, prompting a state of emergency or martial law.

That would play right into the reactionaries’ hands and give Trump a big boost.

It’s a bit stingy to resist the comparison until we have a literal Hitler Reborn. I get why overuse has soured folks, especially when various RWers accuse Obama of atrocities equal to that of the Holocaust every. single. day.

Frank is 1000% right. Trump will drift left and start talking populist ideas. He’s a celebrity who knows how to work a crowd. He’s already mentioned healthcare in a positive light. Same with PPA. The right conrinues to support him. All but the religious true believers (who aren’t old bigots, because bigotry beats out God even with the old religious folks.

I don’t think that the comparisons are not valid, I just don’t see them as a means of materially helping the case against him right now. It should suffice to point out the damage that DT and his party will do to this country if they are allowed near the White House.

There are so many people who firmly believe the Fox News bullshit; we’re going to have all of ISIS raining down hell on us, the economy sucks!!!11!!!, Democrats want to tax and spend you into oblivion, etc.

Trump is a brand. A brand built on bullshit but a brand that people think of wealth and business acumen and success. John Oliver delivered it up the best way possible.

We need to destroy that brand. Nuke it and grind it into ash and bury it. Show it for what it is; smoke and mirrors. The Trump name needs to be so damaged that people laugh at it. No one else loses money because they bought into the bullshit brand. No one loses anything but the liar that is Trump. His name needs to become what it is, a one word meaning of Liar, much like how Ponzi and Madoff are.

Here’s some scary shit to contemplate: Suppose someone like Ted Cruz had preempted Trump by taking control of the crazy train at the beginning? Suppose it was Cruz out there, screaming that Mexicans are rapists and Muslims terrorists and he’s gonna build a huge wall. Would we be sitting here and arguing that the best way to defeat him is to point out that he’s never held elected office and contradicts himself? Because that’s the danger down the road, that somebody who actually does hold elected office and does have a history of saying shit like this will get out there and tap into the vein of lunacy that Trump is presently exploiting.

A good horse race is one thing. A President who wants to muzzle the press with stronger libel laws is another issue.

But I do not see the media as being able to look past its short-term interests and quarterly bottom line.

There is no media. There are various profit centers pretending to be media. Trump is Comcasr, Fox, et al. They want profits. Exactly which outlet is going to give enough of a shit about actual reporting?

I frankly do wonder if Trump ran on a bet. “Hold my 1811 Chateau d’Yquem and watch this”.

One reason I’m unwilling to call him a bona fide fascist at this point is that I’m not sure that his quasi-fascist rhetoric is what he actually believes and would do, considering his previous record. The man is a political Proteus. There is also a chance that he would abandon the more extreme parts of his rhetoric in case he did became President. To emphasize: certainly, I don’t want to find that out, some bets should not be taken; so AFAIC his rhetoric should be treated as if he means every word (hence the Nazi comparisons are adequate).

Feb. 29 is Superman’s birthday. A piece of trivia I either had forgotten, or never knew.

Given his approximate age when he first made his comic book appearance in 1938, Superman would now be over 100 years old, or 25, depending on how you count the birthdays.

ARRA (the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) got me a job in 2009. I started working for a company that administered COBRA, and needed additional people to deal with the large uptick in layoffs and with the ARRA subsidy that helped laid-off workers get a huge break on their medical insurance costs. With coverage for a family on COBRA running from $1000-$2000 per MONTH — and pre-existing conditions still a major problem pre-ACA — that was a literal lifesaver. I hope some of the people who were helped remember that.

Unless they were directly impacted by the ARRA, as you were, they will likely remember the abject failure as repeated daily by all the usual suspects…which pretty well summarizes the entirety of the Obama presidency. The right did nothing but block, obstruct and lie. Unless something personally impacted a person, they don’t have any knowledge other than what someone else said.

The city used to give abandoned inner-city lots to our Habitat affiliate (till they ran out). When local RWs bitched about that, and our “free” houses, I would tell them we were turning a city maintenance cost into taxed property owners. Sometimes that made them happy.

Could Gun Nuts be Lead Poisoned?
Speaking of disassociation from reality, the topic of actual mental illness has cropped up when trying to comprehend the RWNJ.
One interesting point that I have seen brought up is lead poisoning due to gun ranges and proximity to high levels of lead from expended bullets.

But a hidden risk lies within almost all of America’s estimated 10,000 gun ranges. When shooters fire guns with lead-based ammunition, they spread lead vapor and dust, insidious toxins.

Thousands of people, including workers, shooters and their family members, have been contaminated at shooting ranges due to poor ventilation and contact with lead-coated surfaces, a Seattle Times investigation has found.

Lead poisoning symptoms in adults (Mayo Clinic. Bold is added by me)

Although children are primarily at risk, lead poisoning is also dangerous for adults. Signs and symptoms in adults may include:

High blood pressure
Abdominal pain
Constipation
Joint pains
Muscle pain
Declines in mental functioning
Pain, numbness or tingling of the extremities
Headache
Memory loss
Mood disorders
Reduced sperm count, abnormal sperm
Miscarriage or premature birth in pregnant women

What this is now is the “it’s not the message, it’s the messenger” excuse-making that happens after every election. That Bernie didn’t fail because his message is without substance and too far past what most people are comfortable with, it’s that he wasn’t the messenger that the progressives wanted in the first place. They wanted Warren, but they had to settle for Bernie.

That rather puts the lie to the months of insisting that the “revolution” was here, millions of Americans liked what Bernie was selling, and they’d run anybody who opposed out of Congress at the first opportunity.

Speaking of disassociation from reality, the topic of actual mental illness has cropped up when trying to comprehend the RWNJ.
One interesting point that I have seen brought up is lead poisoning due to gun ranges and proximity to high levels of lead from expended bullets.

That could in fact be why the NRA opposes background checks based on mental illness. I actually now that I think about it think there’s a lot of validity to this theory.

You know, I have nothing against senators running for office but I’d like a little more time spent in the Senate. That’s not a knock on Hillary or Bernie by the way but more an observation in general. I like Senator Warren a lot but she’s got only four years worth of elected experience. It’s pretty funny to think that in 1960 JFK was seen as unqualified but he came into Congress the same year Nixon did and went into the Senate around the same time. A 14 year old Congressional veteran now a days would been seen as qualified and with 8 years in the Senate to boot.

Let the caterwauling begin by the GOP. They’re still working towards the 5th stage - acceptance of Trump as their nominee. Some wont do so until November, but we’re seeing it get ugly.

Frankly, the GOP needs this. They have spent the better part of the past decade promoting anger, fear, hate, and obstructionism as the core to their policy. Take any major policy - okay, let’s focus on Obamacare. The GOP hates it with a white hot intensity even though the core features are all right wing think tank inventions (Heritage came up with the individual mandate and only came around to claim it unconstitutional once Obama co-opted it to try and woo Republicans to get on board with the plan).

They’ve spent every year since 2009 trying to repeal it, pushing countless court cases with dangerous interpretations of law to do so. The Supreme Court managed to uphold the law, though it also gave states an opt-out, which meant millions fewer Americans are insured as a result of the law.

The GOP has had years to identify, promote, and score an alternative bill and has failed to do so. They have no plan to replace Obamacare, only to repeal it.

And all those failed efforts have only gotten the base even more angry and full of hate (even though it’s a vote against self-interest).

On and on it goes.

But this election has brought out all the right wing extremists. Anti Semitism. Racism. Bigotry. Homophobia. Islamophobia. Xenophobia. Nativism.

All of it - and all of it coalescing around Trump, though Cruz and Rubio are each bringing their own brand of hate (call it hate-lite, but it is hate nonetheless).

Conservatives like NRO are wringing their hands over Trump but it’s more about style than substance given NRO’s own history promoting racists and hatemongers on their site.

Of course, others are starting to notice the hornets nest of hate that Trump’s kicked over, as anyone who questions Trump’s racist statements or tries to hold him accountable are hit with tweets about how they’re promoting a multicultural agenda, are traitors to the race, are Jew-lovers, etc. In other words, all the white supremacists, hate mongers, Neo Nazis, racists (yeah, I’m repeating myself, but it is important enough to repeat) are coming out to defend Trump even though these statements are undeniably and factually true. This is not opinion here.

Trump approvingly quotes fascists. He approvingly quotes racists and white supremacists (whose Twitter handles are giveaways that they are racists or white supremacists). He goes out of his way to do so.

His policies are racist and full of hate - and it traces back to the opening days of his campaign - attacking Megyn Kelly was misogynistic, followed up with the anti-Muslim and anti-Mexican policies (claiming Mexico is shipping rapists and murderers to the US, that Muslims must be banned from entry to the US, including Muslim-Americans, etc.)

It’s 2016, and we’re watching a party in thrall with a proto-fascist hatemonger.

That’s the GOP for you. And the GOP alternatives are only different in name only - the promote the same outcomes only that they’ve packaged it more slickly.

The thing that pissed me off most about the “Macaca” incident was the kid he was attacking was a Virginian through and through. Don’t get me wrong. The slur was ugly as hell but I did not like the way he tried to act like that Indian-American student was not really a Virginian because of his skin color which I guess goes with the slur but also the “Welcome to the real world of Virginia.” George himself of course is from Irvine and only used the obsession this area has with the Redskins to get into office in the first place.

I’m just saying don’t bitch about the party machinery in a party you’ve never done much for in the first place and then seek its nomination and act surprised if they favor someone who has done a lot.

Which is likely to have the opposite effect of the one they seek, but such logic is lost on those high on “PURITY NOW!!1”. To such a person, Senator Warren must endorse Senator Sanders or be marked down as a Worthless DINO and a Rebellious Jezebel.

Which is likely to have the opposite effect of the one they seek, but such logic is lost on those high on “PURITY NOW!!1”. To such a person, Senator Warren must endorse Senator Sanders or be marked down as a Worthless DINO and a Rebellious Jezebel.

They wanted Warren badly and tried to lobby for her to run last year, even suggested “drafting” her. When she made it clear she wasn’t running, they had to settle for Bernie, but they still held out hope that he’d get her nod and thus be seen as her champion. So her deciding not to endorse, but to actually sign a DNC fundraiser email, was a solid kick in the jimmies to them.

Why does this all have a PUMA feel to it? We saw this back in 2008 with the party unity my ass nonsense.

These people don’t get it. Bernie is a newcomer to the DNC and Democrats are leery of jumping on his bandwagon precisely because he’s only recently come into the party to run for the White House.

He isn’t mounting a 3d party run here, which he could have done as an independent (or whatever party name he wanted). He’s doing so as a Democrat. That means he’s got to address Democratic party insiders in a way that makes sense and make them consider him over another longtime established Democratic party insider in Hillary. She’s been involved in the party her entire political career (and that’s separate from her time in the WH). She has cultivated a bench of Congressmembers who support her, whether it’s her successor in the Senate Kirsten Gillibrand or NJ’s Cory Booker, etc.

These surrogates are out there stumping for her, and that matters. Bernie doesn’t have that same scope of insider support going, and when someone like Warren decides to stay on the sidelines, it shows their reluctance to take sides out of respect to both, but it also means Bernie’s facing an uphill battle because it effectively gives more credence to Hillary’s run (though he can spin it as he’s a strong enough candidate to keep Warren on the sidelines).

But at the end of the day, the job Democrats have to do is not only win the WH against ANY GOP nominee, but to regain the Senate, so as to regain control over the appointment process. That’s the key, and everyone better look real hard at which candidate is better positioned to help down-ticket races so that Democrats achieve both.

To me, that candidate isn’t Bernie. At least not in the way he’s positioned his campaign and statements made to date.

No, the pro gun control side is not as extreme as the anti gun control side. You’re dead wrong on this.

It does not have to be ‘as extreme’ for my statement to work. What was saying is that the anti-gun side’s far end drives its actions, not its moderates. The same is true on the pro-gun side. Which far end is further out matters less than the fact that the issue is driven by those far ends.

Something I did just read said that she’s probably holding out until a nominee becomes clear, and hen hopes to use her support to affect the campaign.

I kind of think this means she knows whose going to win. Why would Sanders need her support?

Personally think that would be a great way to set herself apart from Bernie in the event of a future run: Announce she will not be endorsing anyone, but instead will lend her support to the party’s nominee and will do everything she can to help them in November. You’d have Sandbagger heads exploding over like party poppers.

He’s got to win support of Democrats. He hasn’t done anything to earn unconditional support at this point. That’s something Bernie’s supporters don’t seem to get.

You can make the same statement about Trump, which is why the establishment is “fighting” him at this point, but will capitulate after today’s trouncing of Rubio and Cruz.

The difference is that Trump keeps winning states and leading in polls nationally and in key states. Sanders hasn’t shown the same level of support in polls, and he’s lagging badly in political endorsements, which is a sign of long term strength. He might get Hillary to tack left, but Hillary already appears ready to tack to the middle in a general election pivot knowing she’s got months of mudslinging facing her from Trump and the rest of the GOP apparatus.

This is my position exactly. Now I would like to see homeowners especially those with small children have some kind of requirement to keep them away from kids because we read too often about little kids finding Daddy or Mommy’s gun and either killing themselves or their brother or sister. We’re not going to prevent all gun tragedies. I have no illusion but I think it’s a fair goal to work to cut them down and frankly we get no progress on the issue because the gun lobby treats every legislation that is even remotely critical of guns as an attack on the 2nd and that’s crap.

The film received mixed to negative reviews with 32% approval rating on aggregate review site Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 4.7 out of 10, based on 31 collected reviews.[3]

Comedian and former Mystery Science Theater 3000 host Michael J. Nelson named the film the second-worst comedy ever made.[4]

Notably Roger Ebert was a fan of the film, giving it 31/2 out of four stars and maintaining that:

“I know this sounds odd, but Schwarzenegger is perfect for the role. Observe his acting carefully in Junior, and you’ll see skills that many ‘serious’ actors could only envy.”[5]

Ebert and his partner Gene Siskel gave the film “two thumbs up” on their television show.

In May 2007, Sandy Smith had launched an essay writing competition, asking entrants to attempt to prove that Junior could be considered the greatest movie of all time. He obsessively started collecting copies of the movie in November 2005, and eventually collected 24 copies. In February 2008, despite Sunday Herald covering the story,[6] the competition received fewer entries than there were prizes offered.

If the NRA/GOA stopped using fear and lies then I may very well be. I really don’t understand the practical need for such weapons though. The rifles/shotguns for hunting I absolutely get. A handgun for personal protection, again I get but that a little less so. I want more gun responsibility ultimately and there is none of that from your side of the debate just fear and lies about how every Democrat and liberal is a gun grabber who doesn’t “respect” guns which is a lot of bullshit.

re: #262 Fourth Football of the Apocalypse

Yeah, probably the most annoying trope among Christian fundamentalists, whose circle I once inhabited (although I was a political liberal). Just very brain-dead ignorant, especially since the Bible itself contains few absolutes. But there’s no talking to them about this.

The book I’ve been reading, A War for the Soul of America: A History of the Culture Wars, by Andrew Hartman, addresses this misunderstanding. An evangelical scholar, Francis Schaeffer, studied modern philosophy — I suppose in an effort to be something like Thomas Aquinas. Schaeffer read Hegel, for one, and interpreted his philosophy through the lens of Evangelical Christianity.

Hegel theorized that synthesis, not antithesis, was the superior method of thought. Synthesis, in Schaeffer’s reading of Hegel, implied relativism, since all acts, all gestures, had an equal claim to truth, in that the dialectical process would eventually envelop everything. Napoleon’s conquest of Europe was to be judged not by the brutality of its individual acts but by the synthesis of the “world spirit on horseback” that Hegel famously believed Napoleon signified. Furthering his eclectic intellectual history of modernity, informed by his unique Christian apologetic, Schaeffer wrote that existentialism announced humanity’s nihilistic trek across the line of despair. Sartre, Schaeffer posited, believed there was no way of knowing truth absolutely and that, given this, human existence was ridiculous. “Nevertheless, you try to authenticate yourself by an act of the will. It does not really matter in which direction you act as long as you act.” An individual could choose to either help an elderly woman walk across a street or attack her and steal her purse; in either act the person was “authenticated.” Although this critique of existentialism ignored some of its key facets— namely, the unrelativistic premise that an authenticating project was worthwhile only if it created space for more people to experience freedom— by reading existentialism against the grain of scripture, Schaeffer appealed to some of the young, modish Americans who voraciously read Sartre. Eventually, powerful Christian conservatives sought him out precisely because of this appeal.

Hartman, Andrew (2015-04-14). A War for the Soul of America: A History of the Culture Wars (Kindle Locations 1566-1577). University of Chicago Press. Kindle Edition.

In other words, Schaeffer misinterpreted Hegel and Sartre, then handed those misinterpretations to his Fundie followers, who then mangled it even more. It’s been canon in the Fundie world since the 1970s that postmodernism = relativism = immorality, and it’s impossible to persuade them otherwise.

In New Hampshire. First on the beach, then at Little League games. That’s how it goes. Because. You know.

More hard working GOP representatives tackling the big issues of the day by criminalizing nipples and breasts.

And in exchange for that would you be willing to disavow an “assault weapons” ban?

Only if you’re willing to consider having to explain why you need a weapon that turns deer into ground beef. I’ll take home defense and hunting as good reasons. “Assault weapons” aren’t necessary for either.

“Assault weapons” (and we all know why DF and I are putting it in quotes) fits into something of an idea I am trying to work on. It ties into the math and computer science I am studying, specifically the idea that there are only a countable number of ways to write a law and more than that many ways to do things. My example is that a good driving law would be written as “Don’t go too fast” but we can’t write that, because it’s fuzzy and open to interpretation, but if you write “Don’t go over 65” then you get people that drive 65 with ice on the road. It’s the same with the concept of “Assault Weapons.” We all have a good idea of what really qualifies as an assault weapon, but you can’t just write a law, because there will always be those that find the spot that is outside the written definition but really should qualify. The other obvious example is the definition of porn.

No, the pro gun control side is not as extreme as the anti gun control side. You’re dead wrong on this.

Any gun legislation that is called “control” is considered extreme by the extremely extreme side of the whole thing.

And it appears this isn’t going to change until a few of the forefathers of our country come back to explain the Second Amendment.

Well, I think we are talking about slightly different senses of absolute, even if in the end they converge. I’m saying that they usually believe that morality is somehow ontologically grounded (in God’s nature, for example), whereas it’s always a convention, whether instituted by humans or by deities.

You’re talking about unbudging, absolute rules, which can follow from the above, but which can also be compatible with the “convention” view of morality.

Tomorrow we will see Cruz and Rubio support Trump, as if none of the In-fighting ever happened.

I think there’s a very real possibility of a functional (if not denominational) bifurcation of the Republican Party itself this November, between a national GOP and a congressional one. We’ve heard several murmurs from those responsible for retaining control of the Senate and House that they’ll accede to candidates running pretty explicitly against Trump.

It will be interesting to see to what degree this split is temporary. It’s how one might envision the party as a whole beginning a radical shift like we saw with the collapse of the FDR coalition in the 60s.

I think and I know it sounds slippery slope since it opens up an ugly can of worms but I really really think we need to consider the kind of country were in the 1790’s versus now as well as how firearms have changed. I just think the idea of no regulation is absurd. We do in fact regulate speech and such as I think firearms can be lawfully and constitutionally regulated.

Not just home defense but defense of others as well. In some cases a rifle is better suited to stopping an attack than a handgun. Moreover, semi-auto rifles are used far less often in crimes than handguns so that someone wants one shouldn’t represent a problem if that person isn’t a crazy.

But on a fundamental level you’ve got it backwards: People who own semi-auto rifles shouldn’t have to justify why they should permitted to own them, those who want to ban such rifles should have to explain the necessity of such a ban.

That is true, unless the polls are completely wrong and missing a surge by Cruz or Rubio. I don’t expect that to be the case. However, I don’t really expect the Republican establishment to meekly line up behind Trump once he clinches the nomination. Many will certainly; some will give pro forma support. I wouldn’t be surprised, as I’ve said before, to see a high profile conservative run third party to provide an alternative to Trump, though it apparently won’t be Cruz.

That’s part of my point too. I don’t understand why people feel the need to own these. Now if you like to shoot them. Well maybe we can have ranges where people shoot them but I honest to God do not see the practical reasons to own such weapons. Good points all around anyhow. Assault Weapons is a tricky issue since there’s going to be nitpicking about what construes an assault weapon and what doesn’t. What I really want to change though is culture which I admit is sort of radical but as I said I’m tired of the response after all these tragedies is to see gun sales go up. I’m tired of reading about kids killing each other or themselves. And as I have gotten at, buying a gun shouldn’t be as easy as it is in some places. Another thing I resent is the logical fallacy where D.C’s strict gun laws are used to attack the effectiveness of gun laws, y’all do know that you can literally walk to Virginia from D.C and Virginia has laxer gun laws. Our states don’t exist in vaccums with strict guarded borders, again that’s why I think using the 10th is a mistake. But as I said ultimately I just want to live in a society where people don’t feel the need to be armed all the time. I dont’ like the atmosphere of mistrust and paranoia created.

Bullshit. You want to believe or make an excuse that it is the anti-gun people that drive all actions on gun ‘control’ yet many times even the most limited and sensible legislation is shot down by the gun extremists that is the conservative side.

Nice try Dark. But you are typical when it comes to guns. Your post proves it because you go right to the excuses.

Ah, yes. The anti-abortion folks here believe God Himself has told them abortion is evil, because it is murder, despite there being no such directive in the Bible. They would deny any human influence in coming up with this idea, though clearly there was. It’s a matter of faith among these people that God (and Jesus) are 100% against abortion.

Morality, as you say, for the conservative Christians, is something that comes from above. Humanism, in their view, cannot produce morality, because humans are intrinsically evil. Similarly, atheists cannot have any moral compass or ethics, because without God there can be no morality or ethics, and humans are intrinsically evil. The concept that people can get along perfectly well without belief in God is completely foreign to them. Does. Not. Compute. System overload.

The most maddening thing to witness is when the NRA contradicts itself and starts opposing legislation itself had previously supported. But ultimately the most infuriating thing to me is how gun advocates want to make gun related tragedies about anything but the gun. Take Sandy Hook. Wayne LaPierre was blaming two movies that came out whenAdam(not Ryan sorry) Lanza was a child and no one knew for sure he had seen or not. You have gun-nutters who blame legalized abortion or same sex marriage even for these tragedies. It’s the refusal by the gun advocate community to admit flat out “Hey these are dangerous machines designed to kill living beings, let’s make sure they’er not in the wrong hands.” They cant’ do that and the reason why I think is simple is because the NRA are a bunch of little men who need guns to feel better about what a bunch of cowards they really are.

I’d be more convinced by the way if there weren’t a lot of trigger happy idiots out there but all the time I’m reading about someone shooting someone over the smallest provacation. You had that man who was killed for throwing popcorn FFS. The kid because his music “scared” the guy. The old man who shot the woman who was in a car accident because he thought she was an intruder. I’m not seeing these famed responsible gun owners. I do see a lot of idiots though.

In fairness, somebody not getting shot isn’t news, which might be why you don’t hear about responsible gun owners. Apparently, 31% of households in the US have guns (that’s an all time low, by the way). You hear about the idiots because, in the larger picture, they’re outliers.

That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t find ways to further reduce gun deaths. Or insure that the people getting and keeping guns are mentally stable.

Romantic Heretic  Mar 1, 2016 • 8:04:53am

re: #379 Decatur Deb

It goes much deeper than that. As a gun sales lobby the NRA would back import bans and gun buy-back/destruction programs, controlling the supply and demand sides. They don’t.

That’s because they aren’t a lobby for an industry. They’re a lobby for a faith.

That faith is America, which is distinctly different from the American nation. That faith’s holy icons are firearms and the flag. It’s why the faithful have more and bigger of each. By doing so the faithful are demonstrating their faith.

It’s why after mass shootings they declare the solution is more firearms. If the faith spreads to everybody then evil will be destroyed.

This is why the gun control debate in America will go on forever. One side is arguing practical politics to deal with a problem while the other is arguing faith. They can’t even understand each other because they are actually talking about different things.

I understand why Reagan matters to Republicans but it’s time to get over him and actually be yourself. Besides I don’t think Reagan was that special.

Do you mean the real-life historical Reagan or the rose-tinted-image-of-the-ideal-Republican-president Reagan? Only the latter counts for the GOP…

The rose tinted one of course. The actual Reagan did things that would make Reagan if he were a candidate poll worse than Jeb has with this party’s base.

Red and Blue are arbitrary. The common American party distinction comes from TV graphics. In Europe, red tends to stand for Socialist/Communist parties while blue is more common with the Tory or other conservative parties.

Just like “left” and “right” are arbitrary designations based on the seating arrangement of the French Parliament, instituted to keep loyalist and opposition delegates from assaulting each other…

The main debating chamber in the British Parliament is rather anachronistic in modern democracies in that rather than a semi-circle of seats such as in the US Congress and elsewhere, two sets of benches face each other. They are referred to as the Government and Opposition benches.

There are two lines clearly marked on the carpet in front of the benches. Someone standing to speak must be careful not to let their foot cross that line or the Speaker will call them to account. The spacing of the lines is approximately twice the engagement distance of a sword. This is not an accident.

It’s actually based on how the colors were originally done in 1976 but I can see why your students would be confused. It still confuses me. I love that site by the way. Very detailed. I need to visit a presidential library one day. One of my professors at GMU, Richard Norton Smith was director of quite a few of the Republican ones. Fascinating guy. He taught a class on the US presidency and when we learned about Jerry Ford, he pops in a tape of him giving one of the eulogies at the funeral in Michigan. I wonder what he’s thinking about Trump and all this. He was from what I understand a liberal Republican since he got his start working for Ed Brooke in Massachusetts. Not sure if he still was one when he taught the class. He was fair though.

I’ve told this story on here before but…

On the day of finalizing my divorce at the Edward Brooke courthouse in Boston back in 2004 there was a media frenzy …

After filing papers stating their intent to marry, the couples in Boston walked quickly to Brooke Courthouse where they obtained waivers allowing them to forgo the required three-day waiting period before marriage.

They then returned to City Hall to receive marriage licenses.

Mayor Thomas Menino personally welcomed Compton and Wilson, as well as two other plaintiff couples — Mike Horgan and Ed Balmelli, and Hillary and Julie Goodridge. It was Goodridge for whom the lawsuit was named after

“We’ve broken down the barrier,” said Menino at City Hall. “I am so proud of these people. I am very proud to be mayor of this city today.”

And I am proud to have been there that day, even if for other reasons.

And Warren raising money for Hassan, Strickland and Feingold will be a whole lot more valuable to their “cause” than an endorsement of Bernie. But they’re too narrowcast in their obsession to see it.

If it’s not sponsored by the city, then it’s a private parade, and they could exclude who they want. There would be nothing stopping the gays from having their own parade. Imagine the KKK being required to have blacks in their parades.

Interesting stuff, thanks. This part in particular jumped out at me because of the Qur’an burnings & Muhammad cartoons:

The Early Irish in America
As the Irish population grew, anti-Catholic forces celebrated Pope Day, and carried straw effigies of St. Patrick on March 17 which were desecrated to taunt the Irish. The new Irish were quick to defend their honor; their reaction was swift, and violence was a normal result. The influence of the growing Irish population finally forced the city to ban such effigies in 1802. […]

DNC Chair Joins GOP Attack On Elizabeth Warren’s Agency

WASHINGTON — Payday lenders have been gunning for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau since the day President Barack Obama tapped Elizabeth Warren to set up the new agency. They’ve had plenty of help from congressional Republicans — longtime recipients of campaign contributions from the payday loan industry. As the CFPB has moved closer to adopting new rules to shield families from predatory lending, the GOP has assailed the agency from every conceivable angle — going after it’s budget, attempting to tie its hands with new layers of red tape, fomenting conspiracy theories about rogue regulators illegally shutting down businesses and launching direct attacks on payday loan rules themselves.

To date, the GOP blitz has resulted in a few close shaves for the young agency, but no actual defeats. But the industry has cultivated a powerful new ally in recent weeks: Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.).

Wasserman Schultz is co-sponsoring a new bill that would gut the CFPB’s forthcoming payday loan regulations. She’s also attempting to gin up Democratic support for the legislation on Capitol Hill, according to a memo obtained by The Huffington Post.

OK I missed this news from January:

edition.cnn.com

French comedian Dieudonné M’bala M’bala, who was last year sentenced to two months in prison by a Belgian court for “inciting hatred” during a performance, claims he’s been held at Hong Kong airport.

He was due to perform shows in the city on Thursday and Friday, but was detained by immigration authorities along with his two sons on arrival at Hong Kong International Airport early Thursday.

[…]

His detention follows warnings by the French and Israeli consulates in the city about the performer, known for his homophobic, racist and anti-Semitic material, who holds a string of convictions in France.

The GOP has always been about stopping Hillary at any cost, and Trump would fit that bill as much as any other GOP nominee. Or that he promises stuff he knows he can’t keep.

Stopping Hillary is the only mission. So all the BS about never Trump will disappear, even as the racism and hate continues spewing forth from Trump, his supporters, and surrogates.

On the contrary, I think we’ll see more and more elected officials not-so-tacitly criticize of Trump in order to preserve downballot candidates. We’ve already seen this from Ryan, McConnell, and Cornyn.

There will be a bifurcation between those who embrace Trump in hopes of being offered positions within his administration and those who think the Senate must be retained at all costs.

I just don’t see that happening, the Trump supporters are the base and when was the last time that anyone in the GOP had the fortitude to stand up to the base? Watch Trump sideline those guys who are rightfully concerned about the down-ticket fallout from Trump on the ballot. And Trump’s tone-deaf enough to actually attack them over not openly supporting him.

The din of opposition to Trump as the nominee will fade as we head into the summer, and these current statements in opposition will be forgotten too.

The Ghost of Bork Bork Bork Bork  Mar 1, 2016 • 10:15:53am

re: #561 Lidane

I wonder if it will impact, though.

Between following my local churches and what I read online, it seems to me likes there’s a long-term thing that’s started fruiting just recently: many of these megachurches and highly charismatic congregations are based around more and more gnostic readings of the Bible, while eschewing the more basic meanings of teachings. And the interpreters of the Bible is a small group of people who have created a “reading” in which this is God’s country, and that the norms and ideals of a certain US demographic—white, middle class, Christian, Republican—are the correct decoder ring through which to filter the parables and pronouncements of the New Testament, and the laws of the Old.

A quick representation of this is the work of David Barton, but a simpler (and dumber) representation is Kirk Cameron’s “Saving Christmas”: the modern apologist engages in anachronism and texting-sampling so that “things that US conservative believe and do” is holy and righteous. This means finding strong Biblical endorsement for ideas not addressed (abortion), and radically transforming strong admonitions on other subjects (holding of wealth, forgiveness, being judgmental).

Remember Andrew Schafly’s conservative Bible project? It was a total joke because of how bald it was…but the same process of re-rigging the meaning of the Bible has been happening. Look at guys like Mark Driscoll, or the whole “prosperity gospel crowd.” Schafly’s idiot concept got repackaged and it’s sold well.

Impious Trump succeeding with “evangelicals” falls into line with this phenomenon. There’s been a series of deformations of meaning to make selfishness a merit, to make wealth and consumption a sign of divine favor…it’s not that far of a leap to find the agency of God behind Trump. It’s not that they see Trump as “one of us,” it’s that they see his positions and his power as coherent with theirs…and thus as coherent with the positions of Divinity (as they have characterized it.)

That’s the Appellate Division handing Trump’s lawyers their hats. The lower court (Supreme Court) already ruled in favor of the AG that Trump defrauded the public on multiple grounds, including incorrectly using the word University in their literature. The entity was not accredited and didn’t meet Education Law standards for a university.

Trump’s lawyers had tried claiming that the AG suit was outside the statute of limitations, but the Appellate Division found that wasn’t the case - the causes of action were brought within the 6 year statute of limitations on both the fraud and contract actions.

Party of dicks. Just never knew it would turn into a dick size contest. Maybe Marco should pull his pants down and compare .// And Cruz can say while his dick isn’t the largest, it is the most conservative. And Kasich and Carson mention they too possess a penis.

Time to update the lyrics to the famous “Colonel Bogey” march?

“Ted Cruz has only got one ball,
Trumpster has two, but very small.
Kasich has something like it,
but Rubio has no balls at all”

An odd way is the only way an equally odd Ron Fournier operates. I cannot figure that dude out. He seems to be all over the place with his views.

I wonder if he’s trying the “It’s the Democrats fault” from a different angle. “We weren’t racist until the racist Democrats joined our party.” Not historically true, of course.

re: #631 Belafon

Ron thinks he’s insulting us by pointing out that the bigots went from being Democrats to being Republicans?

Edit: I wish I could reply to that one right now.

That. It says more about the GOP that they welcome. Of course some of these bigots are former Democrats. But it’s also true that they feel more at home in the Republican Party. That’s an indictment on the GOP not the Democratic Party. Oh and Trump has plenty of long time conservative and Republican supporters so no saying they’re just former Democrats is a pussy shit way of saying it’s not our fault our movement’s overran with bigots.

So far today: one call from a Hillary volunteer; another H flyer hand-delivered with my caucus information and my precinct number written on it.

Brother Bernie, where art thou?
