Unconfirmed reports suggest the GOP have invited Ron Jeremy to appear at the next debate.

Hey.

Let’s be totally fair.

Donald Trump is bragging about the size of his dick because one of the more “serious” candidates went for the small-dick, nudge-nudge joke.

And Ted Cruz is a basically a scrotum that acts like a dick. His mere existence in space-time evokes penis-related imagery.

As Nate Silver remarked earlier:

If we woke up one day and found that the daytime sky had permanently turned from blue to orange, we’d eventually get used to it. That wouldn’t make it any less strange, however.

So even though the battle between Donald Trump and the Republican “establishment”1 has been a story since the summer, we should still pause now and again to gawk at the spectacle. On Thursday, Mitt Romney, the previous Republican presidential nominee and the closest thing the GOP has to a party elder, denounced Trump in the strongest possible terms. Trump responded by making what sounded to me like a blow job reference.

This is really happening. At least I think.

re: #5 Kragar

But again I will point out that Ted Cruz had a chance to rebuke Trump on this and Ted chose not to.

Because Ted knows his base thinks like Trump in this matter.

And all of them said they would support Trump if DJT is the eventual candidate.

So we have a cocky real estate mogul bragging about his cock.

Actually, I wish the word ‘cock’ would go back to referring to male chickens and pigeons. The way those males strut around to show off to a female is the same way Donald Trump struts at times.

Both Kansas and Kentucky (thanks to Rand) are caucus states and some are hypothesizing that Cruz will do well in both states, even the former.

If so, then this fight will be increasingly between Trump and Cruz. After Rubio and Kasich lose their home states Cruz will crow that he’s the only one to have won his home state.

I believe it will be easier for the Democrats to run against Cruz than to run against Cruz, as I fear many Americans are really into both trade protectionism and torture.

Should we all pause to consider that that was basically the network hosting the debate teaming up with other candidates to give Trump a blanket party?

I didn’t see anybody else getting a custom video debunking.

I mean, good effort, can’t give full marks because there’s no bust of Pompeii…but on the other hand, the degree to which that was transparently a beatdown of the leader, not a debate, actually defeats the purpose of masking a beatdown as a debate.

I mean, if it had been a literal assassination, it would have been effective. As a bit of character assassination, it failed, since it played directly into the idea that “the Establishment” is so scared of Trump that they did the rhetorical equivalent of dropping a bunch of masonry on Cyrano de Bergerac.

The typical course for Chantix is twelve weeks. and if this is successful, it may be continued for another twelve weeks. But it does carry a black box warning like many other psychotropic drugs carry, so watch your moods. As long as you’re not talking to beavers like in the Rozerem commercial, you’re probably OK.

Chantix lists “vivid dreams” as one of its side effects. Boy, do they have that right. I’m in my fourth week on the stuff and have been having the most fascinating conversations and adventures with the wackiest people/animals/vegetables/minerals imaginable, and I’ve always been a good dreamer. I’m going to start recommending it to non-smokers. It’s like REM sleep LSD.

PS, I’ve cut back my cancer stick intake by 90%.

After one week on it, I only had one cig and that had not effect on me. Never wanted one since. My dreams were no more funky than usual either.

To me, Chantix was as close to a perfect example of how you want a pharmaceutical to work.

Others, eh, not so much I hear but I’m over 10 years now without smoking and no desire to.

The next Republican “debate” is in … next week! Back to CNN, apparently, with the MoonieTimes and SalemCommunications part of the package.

From Miami, of course, before the winner-take-all Florida primary.

Between now and then are 4 Republican contests, with the biggest one in MI. Trump leads in polls in MI and LA, significantly.

Kansas and Kentucky are unknown caucuses. Smart money is on Cruz’s ground game to win Kansas.

[…]

Bundy sons Melvin Bundy, 41, and David Bundy, 39, were arrested and charged, as was Gerald “Jerry” DeLemus of New Hampshire, who in 2015 was named in a press release as a co-chair of a “Veterans for Trump” coalition in the state.

The Union Leader newspaper in Manchester also reported that he is co-chair.

The Trump campaign did not respond to questions from NBC News Thursday evening about DeLemus’ arrest, and a call to the DeLemus home was not returned.

Big excitement for me today was opening a new bank account. The university is switching payroll to a new bank, so everyone has to open an account there if we expect to get paid this month.

I said I wanted e-banking, too, so I can buy stuff online. The security gadget is not a USB dongle, as my present bank offers, but a tiny keypad-like affair that offers a six-digit security code to enter on an online form. If you’re familiar with Authy or Google Authenticator apps, it serves the same function.

The new bank is ICBC (Industrial & Commercial Bank of China), which actually recognizes the need for an English-language interface on its website, unlike my old bank, China Construction Bank, which only has a Chinese-language UI. Sooo much easier now to bank online.

re: #8 teleskiguy

The GOP party has devolved into a bunch of dick jokes because they’re all assholes who are trying to show the other assholes are a bunch of pussies.

Yeah, it sounds like a skit from Team America, but how is it that satirists like Parker and Stone, or even the folks behind Idiocracy looking like they went time traveling to come up with a documentary of what we’re seeing now? The GOP simply can’t be trusted with power at any level of government.

We see it in Flint.
We see it in New Jersey, where Gov. Christie has basically decided that the state’s fiscal woes will be solved by cutting the estate tax while the pension fund and transportation trust fund run dry and the roads crumble and the state’s transit authority is set to go on strike because the employees have been without a contract for the entirety of his term in office.
We see it in Congress, where the GOP idea of governing is to pass bills they know will never get enacted, claiming it is progress, all while obstructing on constitutionally mandated action - to advise and consent on presidential nominations for the courts.

So how did we get here? Yes, a lot of it is the result of the GOP feeding on anger, hate, and irrational hate and anger at that. But it’s also a media that is far to compliant and interested in narratives and memes to concern itself with opening and honestly calling racism racism. Or that one party is explicitly pandering to racists with its anti-Muslim or xenophobic policies (and that said policies also violate the Constitution - especially Trump’s proposals to limit even Muslim Americans from returning to the US or limiting mosques being built, etc.).

On and on it goes, and this is by no means a MBF instance when I say that Democrats also have to take responsibility for not voting in midterms and off year elections to at least slow or contain the damage. Winning the WH is definitely important, but letting all the down-ticket races slide by means wasted and lost opportunities, and now have to claw back the damage done by a GOP that is hell bent on destroying the very government they claim to represent.

I think it boils down to this argument. In original Ghostbusters, Zeddmore was looking for work and hired. He wasn’t a scientist, but a guy willing to work with the scientists.

In the new movie, the black woman isn’t a scientist, but rather an MTA worker who is willing to work with the 3 white women scientists.

What I think is going on is that the director simply cribbed the structure of the original and sought to keep some kind of continuity. Would it have been nice if one of the scientists was the black woman? Absolutely. Heck, since this is a teaser trailer, we might not know the back story or that this woman went to college and is now getting to use her skills. Or not.

I just can’t get bent out of shape over it. But I don’t see the point of doing what’s essentially either a remake/reimagining or a “sequel” to a movie that is as beloved as Ghostbusters. It’s a setup for disappointment frankly.

Frankly, the original movie was a silly comedy, and it will remain a silly comedy. It’s like getting worked up about a Honey, I shrunk the kids remake ;)

It’s like, remaking Godfather doesn’t make sense, remaking any film that is all a formulaic plot + gimmicks - why not.

It’s Hollywood. If someone thinks they can make money off a Godfather remake, they’ll do it. Maybe not this decade, but 50 years from now. Because that’s what the studios do.

True, but that still wouldn’t make much sense because what is there to add? Whereas putting “ghostbusters” into a new environment/modern time does add something (one can argue how much, quality, etc.).

Count how many Batman and Superman movies have been done already. And we’ve got the big team up in a couple of weeks, as DC/Warner tries to play catch-up with Marvel/Disney.

I have to admit, though, the trailers for Superman v. Batman: Dawn of Justice are looking pretty good. Wonder Woman is finally getting decent screen time, and even Aquaman shows up. There are rumors of other DC superheroes popping up, as well.

Why Bill Nye changed his mind on genetic engineering

But starting in February, his tune began to change. Late that month, Nye visited Monsanto, a corporation known for genetically modifying agricultural products. Around that time, Nye told Real Time’s Miles Leicher that he had “revised [his] outlook.”

204
freetoken  Mar 4, 2016 • 6:20:34am

Speaking of genetics, the Guardian is promoting a battle between determinists and non-determinists when it comes to human psyche:

Genetic denialism is unhelpful - genes play a role in who we are

Denying a role for genes in why people turn out differently is to deny decades of converging scientific evidence from multiple methodologies. Concerns about genetic research may be based, in part, on a misunderstanding of what they allow us to do - understand the interplay of inherited and environmental factors at a population level. We are born equal, but we are also born different - we should embrace that diversity and use it to understand ourselves.

205
Nyet  Mar 4, 2016 • 6:21:54am

Ehm.

Here’s this week’s example of Nye’s cluelessness: a discussion of European antisemitism involving Bill Maher, Nye, Rob Reiner, and Washington Post reporter Elahe Izadi on Maher’s “Real Time” show last Friday. They’re talking about Netanyahu’s misguided suggestion that European Jews should move to Israel to avoid the recent rise of antisemitic sentiment and actions. Then Nye chimes in with his useful advice to mitigate the bigotry:

Nye: “So what do you do about it? I think you get to know your neighbors. That said-it’s gonna take, does it take a century? Something like that.”

ROB REINER: This undercurrent of anti-Semitism has always been there. Just like racism, it’s always been there and then it just bubbles up to the surface every once in a while. And it’s horrible now.

MAHER: Netanyahu is asking European Jews to come to Israel and —

NYE: Come home to Israel. That’s what he said, right?

MAHER: Yeah.

NYE: Yeah.

MAHER: Well, I mean he is the —

NYE: But the people have never been there. They lived, grew up in whatever, in Germany and France.

MAHER: It’s a shame that they should have to move.

NYE: Well, they probably won’t either because it’s not their home.

[tepid applause]

REINER: But you can understand it. There were German Jews that lived in Germany in the Second World War and that was their home. And you know at a certain point if your life is in danger you want to go someplace where you’re going to be protected.

[applause]

NYE: So, what do you do about it? I think you get to know your neighbors. That’s going to take — does it take a century? Something like that? (HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, February 20, 2014)

re: #208 Nyet

I take it that Nye is considering “coming home” to be literal in meaning — one’s birthplace — as opposed to the figurative sense — Israel, the birthplace of Judaism.

I don’t know enough about him to be sure, but maybe he’s one of those engineer types who just doesn’t get metaphor and allusion.

Or, he could be denying the idea that present-day Israel is the home of all Jews everywhere.

Even better, the labor force participation rate is finally going back up as people reenter the work force and U6 unemployment dropped to 9.7% (includes people working part-time because they can’t find full-time work and discouraged workers). Average prerecession U6 unemployment was 8.9%. Obama’s approval rating has been climbing steadily and is nearly dead even in the RCP average, and the GOP is a tire fire. The GOP will either nominate Trump, who no-one outside his base can stand, or a white knight in the chaos of a bitterly contested convention which a Trump advisor has promised his delegates will “burn to the ground” if the nomination is stolen from him. Everything is coming up Hillary.

Not quite 2 yrs ago a friend of mine died of stage 4 lung cancer. He was 47 and hadn’t had a cigarette in 16 yrs. Sadly, that car went to the junkyard years ago. Any pics are physical photographs, though I may have scanned copies somewhere on some hard drive.

My uncle gave me the car when it was already 7 years old. I had to make repairs to it (tires, shocks, exhaust) but it was still cheaper than even a used car then. I drove it 7 more years until the engine died of oil starvation while my ex was driving it somewhere. IIRC, the engine clocked more than 215,000 miles.

It was painted factory snot green with a green fabric interior to match. Probably the ugliest shade of green imaginable, except maybe the avocado appliances that were all the rage in the ’70s.

Luckily, it’s not a game. The Democratic nominee will have to run against one of the Republican nominees, all of which are dangerous, though in different ways. Cruz thinks he’s on a mission from Gawd, Trump thinks running the country is just like running a casino he declared bankruptcy on, Rubio think’s he’ll skip most of the presidency, and Kasich just knows that how he’s wrecked Ohio will work in the rest of the country.

Well we don’t have any say in it, but either scenario of Trump as the nominee or a white knight emerging out of the chaos of a bitterly contested GOP convention looks very good for Hillary. I prefer Trump because he could badly damage GOP turnout assuring Hillary gets a Democratic Senate and a diminished GOP majority in the House. I won’t dare to hope for a Democratic House.

He won’t, because it will be too late for him to get on the ballot in most states. However if he’s the nominee, a Republican might try to take an existing third party’s nomination which already has ballot access, like say the Libertarians or the Conservative Party.

Slight digression… This is probably the biggest problem I have with the conservative (legal) movement trying to roll back the definition of interstate commerce. Just because I buy a product three blocks from my home at a mom and pop shop (or more likely a publicly traded big box store) doesn’t mean that it was made six blocks from my home. It’s much more likely that the product was assembled by a multinational corporation in a different state (or possibly different country) from components made and shipped from around the world. This isn’t me going to the local blacksmith to buy a new wood burning stove that he forged in the back.

A lot of states have “sore loser” laws that prevent someone from running third party if they stood in the primary (though I don’t know if those laws also apply to the presidential race). Gary Johnson is running for the Libertarian nomination and will probably have it - let’s be honest, there isn’t a republican candidate that could convince Libertarian delegates that he’s really on their side. I don’t get the craziness over OEM versus after market. In some cases, like alternators and starters, the after markets can be better than the originals (or the OEM no longer makes the part at all). Or if the car is newish, you need the OEM to maintain warranties or it’s required if you’re rebuilding after an accident/damage.

Doubt that anyone wants the OEM Takata airbags since pretty much every car that has one has been up for a recall at some point.

Guess some people are purists.

You might be right: hell, I sincerely hope you’re right, but the Rise Of Trump has made me believe this election campaign - whoever the Republican nominee is - is going to be a depressing, disgusting gutter-fest of fear-mongering, lies, smears, mud-slinging and hysteria. With an increasingly non-trivial chance of politically-motivated violence.
Yes, you’re right that the Dem-side leadership trio (we can call them “Barry, Bill and Hillary” like some ’60s folk group) are formidable campaigners. But they are also - and have been, for decades - the objects of near-fetishistic hatred from most of the American Right, and I think that a Trump (or Cruz) Presidential campaign is going to have to rely on a non-stop 24/7 barrage of Obama-hate, Bill Clinton-hate and Hillary Clinton-hate to mask the fundamental weakness of the candidate at the top of the ticket. Good times ahead…

I happen to believe much of what you wrote. I think some of my comments are very similar.

And when the bully Trump gets real nasty with Hillary he really is going to have to think about how he will look attacking a woman.

As I said the other day…all conservatives have mothers, wives, female friends and there will be some kickback. I still believe it is women that are going to figure in the most in this election.

I also think Trump doesn’t realize how very easy it is to set him off. He loves to blow hard about “when Hillary called me a sexist, I reminded her of her husband and I haven’t heard a peep out of Clinton since.” Little did he realize she got more out of that than he did, and she and Bill didn’t need to say anything more.

All the Clintons need to do is push a button, with a smile, stand back and watch that big ol’ rocket lift off and go out of control. Hell, even a smile after he starts to lose it will be that little extra retro rocket that pushes him where she wants him to go.

He really is his own worst enemy, but is too damn arrogant to realize not all people think TRUMP is all that great.

Yes, and I just gave the correct answer to give when they do. You’re not descended from your cousins. You and they both descended from your grandparents.

The other answer is a question of niches - there are still monkeys because there are still niches monkeys fill.

I’m going to present it that way if evolution ever comes up. Evolution as well as social ancestry is about shared ancestors. It’s just evolutionary shared ancestors are much older.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with colloquial descriptions of our common ancestors as monkeys or apes - objecting to that is too much hair-splitting. But otherwise the argument works.

The constitution party, though… Maybe

If they get 5% of the vote they qualify for federal matching funds the next time around, so it would be worth it to them. Except, of course, they probably think federal matching funds violate the Constitution!

It was worse than that. We were giving them OEM and if they were not in manufacturer labeled box such as “Genuine VW Part” they still had a fit. Same damn part. Same number, same specs, same everything…no way they’d put that shit on their car!

A good story that really points out some car nut nuttiness. Early 2.0 liter VWs that were turbocharged had a propensity to create some sludge out of the oil (especially lower grade oils) and it would want to form and lay in the bottom of the head and start to block off some of the lubrication holes for the oil to work it’s way back down to the crankcase.

An easy fix was an oversized Bosch oil filter that was the same connection threading, but the body was almost double the size in volume with a larger circumference in the filter case. Same height and all so there was no problems of it hanging too low and it all fit in nicely, easy to change, etc. The larger volume allowed the sludge to lay in the filter. Of course they cost a couple bucks more.

Some guys would bitch that we sent them that filter…it was not the filter in their damn car…what the ‘f’ are you guys doing. We kept the bigger filters in stock because they were better at preventing the sludge problem.

So we bought some of the original spec filters for the cranks that bitched. The sales guys and I would always wonder how long that dude was going to run that car like that before he ran into some major engine problems. It was only a matter of time.

Excellent point. He can stand on stage now and call Rubio ‘Little Marco’ all day long with zero repercussions. He can insult Megyn Kelly and take relatively little heat for it right now.

But the Clintons at this point are watching his schtick and figuring out responses that will get under his skin. Cruz and Rubio (not to mention all who have crashed and burned) had no clue as to how to do that. The Clintons have been doing it for 30 years.

Exactly. Look at the ‘short-fingered vulgarian’ story. He’s been obsessing over that insult for years. Literally. For years he’s been trying to hit that sweet burn so he can finally say he topped that writer.

All Bill and Hil need to do is come up with one or two points that hit a nerve, and then throw them at him every day. Get Reid to join in. Obama has already said he’ll happily smack Trump around on the campaign trail.

See, Cruz and Rubio nearly unlocked how to set Trump off, but they started about 10 debates too late. The Clintons have taken note, and they know that to get inside Trump’s head, you have to tick him off once and then keep hitting that nerve.

Trump has been sparring with amateurs to this point. The Clintons have made a career of eviscerating political foes. The meltdown, when it comes, will be glorious.

It won’t take much to get him into full meltdown mode. Bring it ON. The public needs to see all of it. And yes, it may encourage a segment of voters to keep supporting him, but even some of my pet wingnuts here in GA are backing down from their support a little. I’m sure there was some economic advantage to build the cars in Canada.

Healthcare is the biggest economic reason. Canadian companies don’t have to offer any HC benefits. Some offer Above and Beyond coverage but all Canadians get free healthcare. US companies spend upwards of $10k per employee on insurance and untold millions on retiree HC.

Your attitude is totally turning me off.

I’m still on the fence. I’m considering voting for Trump. I haven’t decided, but I am making arguments within myself as to which is the greater evil.

I have a purity streak. It has to do with my own moral center, not some unicorn crap. I’m seriously struggling with this while doing all I can to help Bernie win or ride through all the way to the convention.

Bernie’s going to have to talk long and hard to convince me to vote for Hillary if he loses the nomination. I’ll be remembering your comments.

(the following is only my opinion based on observations, YMMV)

Herr Drumpf has never had to actually WORK in his life. He’s the CEO of a corporation that other people, whom he hired, built. He lends his name and presence (ack) to the company, but I assure you he doesn’t do much of anything beyond bark orders, sign papers, make phone calls and take meetings with people who he thinks he can work to his advantage. No exertion required. His success is more than likely based on the work of others. He may have some talent, but it’s probably more related to picking people who DO know what they are doing rather than his own business wizardry.

Running for President is demanding, you aren’t calling all the shots and it’s a huge demand of your time and energy. I’m sure that also pisses him off. I hope it does wear his ass out, if he thinks this is rough, being President isn’t a walk in the park either.

My personal gut feeling is that the number of Bernie supporters who would actually turn out to vote in the general election and who would wind up voting for Trump rather than Hillary is very small.

I think there are slightly more people who would turn out for Bernie and who won’t turn out at all in the event of Clinton/Trump, but I think even that number is pretty low.

A lot of sound and fury on the internet, but that’s par for the course.

I’m curious whether any of the media companies may realize that portraying the campaign as a cataclysm rather than the usual horse race might prove more profitable. It could gather more eyeballs by being *different* from the usual and allow their talking heads to take a different tack. And (assuming it’s Trump) why would they need to worry about access afterwards since it’s the destruction of his influence and political career that they’re documenting and commenting on?

I am also considering voting for Trump. I think that in the 2 areas where a President can make the most difference on his or her own, namely Trade and Foreign Policy, Trump is more progressive than Hillary. And the fact that now the evil cabal of neocon asshats that architected and were responsible for the Iraq War are now “declaring war” on Trump for being insufficiently bellicose, and are actually calling for similarly minded warmongers to support Hillary, is more than enough for me.

And Trade? You are an idiot if you do not think that Hillary will green light the TPP as soon as she is in the WH. She enthusiastically backed NAFTA and PNTR with China. She is a pro-corporatist at heart.

Both these areas allow for a POTUS to unilaterally do things that will lead to decades of pain and suffering. Anything else will be blocked by Congress — especially if the Dems retake the Senate as they are expected to do.

And besides, Trump is not as bad as you think.

If half the things people are saying about Trump were really to be believed, then there would be universal outrage and cries of condemnation for Hillary Clinton, that she would legitimise a white supremacist, xenophobic fascist by happily — nay joyfully — attending his wedding!

Niemoller was imprisoned by the Nazis from 1937-1945 for opposing the regime. Prior to that, he had been a supporter of the Nazis.

In my view, these facts do not detract from the truths expressed in “First they came…” After all, Niemoller is describing and confessing his own apathy to others’ persecution.

Right, and that why I sometimes muse that, maybe, just maybe, if we can’t nominate a genuine liberal/progressive/social democrat, it might be better to go ahead and have “shock treatment” to wake the dullards up. Because, Democrat or Republican, I’ve been watching the incremental right-ward shift since the beginning of 1970s (greatly accelerated post ray-gun), and if were going to end up there anyway, if someone like Sanders (someone completely mainstream in any of the more civilised countries) is “beyond the pale”, then maybe a frigid blast is what it’ll take to truly wake a few of the folks who think a steady diet of LOTEs is just ducky.

Freepers may be setting a new record for stupid:

VIDEO: Hillary Loves KKK Endorsing Trump, Then BRUTAL Video From Her Past Is Found

In fact, part of Clinton’s unethical lifestyle is reflected in her duplicitous reaction to former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke’s endorsement of Trump, by making incriminating remarks towards the GOP front-runner. The hypocrisy comes from the praises she heaped upon the late Sen. Robert Bryd — a KKK participant and recruiter.

The first words uttered from Clinton’s mouth in this newly discovered video said it all: “Today our country has lost a true American original, my friend and mentor Robert C. Byrd.”

NOT ONE commenter has pointed out that Byrd left, and repudiated, the Klan more than 60 years before he died and Hillary gave her eulogy. Instead we have morons like this one apparently assuming that the Clintons’ relationship with Byrd is some kind of new revelation:

I am sure this will be on the news 24/7 for the next week.
Hillary praising a Grand Wizard of the KKK.
Right. No bias? Right.

My hypothesis is that these people understand that this kind of partial truth and omission of relevant fact is deceptive but lack the intelligence to see how obvious it is. Instead they are congratulating themselves for their cleverness and wit.

I think everyone had kind words about Byrd when he died. And yeah it totally ignores that that Byrd left the KKK and denounced it years ago. Duke is still a huge racist. Hugo Black had been in the KKK in the 20’s and ended up voting for BRown in Brown vs the Board of the Education. They love to use Robert Byrd but they freak out if you mention Strom Thurmond who did a lot more political water carrying for the cause of white supremacy than Byrd ever did and then there’s Jesse Helms who as recent as 1992 was promising to make a black colleague (Carol Moseley Bruan) cry by whistling Dixie.

I thought about pointing out that southern conservatives were Democrats when the Klan was formed because they had just gotten their asses kicked by a Republican president named Lincoln, and that they stayed Democrats for another hundred years because they held that much of a grudge against Lincoln. And then, in the 1960s, when liberal Democrats started passing things like the Voting Rights Act, and the Civil Rights Act, those southern conservatives moved to the Republican party. This tweet brings up a word usage that I have never fully understood. Why do so many people tend to use the word think in place of thing? I see it very often. Is it an unconscious use and just happens or is it related to the phrase “you’ve got another thing/think coming” which many times is used both ways and may spill over into confusion of using both words interchangeably?

By the way…here is a fun link to a discussion of the phrase “you’ve got another thing/think coming” which is fun in its own way. I think it’s an inadvertent typo that people’s minds fill in the blank, or see what’s supposed to be there.

I had a boss would would, without fail, type the word ‘you’ in place of ‘your,’ and after about a year I pointed it out to him. Not only did he never notice it, but two co-workers also said ‘You know, I never noticed that.’

re: #483 Nyet

The fucking reason this happened (I grew up in an Amway house, raised by wingnut evangelicals, I saw this stuff as a kid. Hell, we had meetings in my house to discuss this very damned thing) is because liberals didn’t take these assholes seriously. There was no push back at all. Meanwhile, conservatives began efforts to take over everything with political power at the local and state levels all over the country. From school boards to city councils to mayors and state level representatives. Hell, they even worked on getting themselves into Home Owner Associations and every business or trade association they could get into and run. They organized and raised a shit ton of money while they played on the fears of the middle class. And it worked.

And now we see what close to 40 plus years of this shit has done to the country. Letting them have it all is not going to fix a fucking thing. Jesus. It’s bad enough they managed to sell the idea that those who hate the government can run it best, how is letting them burn the rest of it down at all helpful? I get SO SICK of this backwardass spiteful argument. It’s stupid.

I had a chance a few years ago to ask a question of George Soros at an online Q&A event. My question was why were there no liberal media owners like Rupert Murdoch and others like him with super conservative views, and would he be willing to help raise the funds and help organize other wealthy liberals to create something as successful as FOX, to counter the bullshit. His answer? 1) No one would watch it and it was a bad investment and 2) The fight was lost already. I left after that. This lack of fight and the attitude of it won’t ever get that bad is why we’ve lost so much ground. I have never understood this at all, ever. These people have now had 4 decades to grow and expand and take over nearly all media, they’ve gutted investigative journalism and effectively brainwashed half the country. I’m not sure how we can recover from that, but it sure as hell won’t happen without investment and lots, I MEAN LOTS of organization and money from the top down and the bottom up.

They pronounce it “true,” which it obviously is. Byrd was a senior US Senator long before, during, and long after Bill’s presidency. Of course the Clintons knew him and worked with him.

The really alarming, and disgusting, thing is that GOP propagandists can get away with treating this as a new revelation, as well as with completely ignoring the chronology.

Science says Sharrows are not. (At least, one study from Chicago says that.) Bike lanes, the paint stripe kind or the separated kind, often increase problems at intersections. The illusion of protection is what makes them draw out new cyclists. It’s dishonest, IMHO. Some cyclists promote cycling to new riders because it is statistically safer when there are more about. And the casualties are the newbies.

I lose friends in the bike industry because my philosophy has always been to serve cyclists, not to recruit new ones. The industry is shrinking, and I guess it’s my fault.

I could tell stories, lots of them, about the dipshits that ran Air America into the ground, one of them has ties to my part of GA.

We’ve been told for decades that we, the public have a short attention span and we don’t like in depth journalism. The laws were changed requiring TV stations to produce programming to inform and educate the public, laws that protected us from media monopolies were gutted. I find it hard to believe that no one would watch interesting and factual investigative journalism, if done well. It’s the lack of ideas and investment that fucked us out of those things. Now I have no idea what the answer is. Bread and Circuses, Gossip and Screaming and do not get me started on “Reality TV” which is so far removed from reality it might as well be a soap opera.

RWNJs are oblivious to change and the passage of time. Schlafly first came to national prominence in 1960, when she led a “revolt” against nominee Richard Nixon at the Republican National Convention. Her complaint was Nixon’s stated support for civil rights. The “southern strategy” was years in the future, and Nixon was basically reiterating the Eisenhower administration’s position.

There is good infrastructure. 23 years ago I rode on some like what SLC has made, in Berlin. It really comes down to the attitude of the users. They need to care about each other, even if using a different means of transport.

They don’t even have to try that hard. Just find a way to work the phrases “small hands” or “smaller hands” into every ad campaign. All they’d have to do is say something like, “We cannot allow [X issue] to fall into smaller, less experienced hands” or some variation of that. It’ll drive Drumpf nuts.

I was thinking Bill could sit out in the audience and do things like stretch his fingers out, or shake his hands like he’s trying to shake water off.

Related:

All Trump statements come with an expiration date - and his supporters don’t care that all of his positions are fluid and undeterminable. He can flip-flop on stuff even within minutes of stating them.

For instance, his claims that he’d build a wall are widely reported. He further stated that the wall would include natural barriers like rivers, deserts, and mountains. That pretty much means he doesn’t have to do more than what Congress has already authorized to do. His supporters will ignore the latter, thinking that a wall will be built - and Mexico will pay for it (hint: they wont - and they used Trumpian language to denote their anger at Trump’s BS).

But he is his own man and tells it like it is and people can understand where he is coming from and he is such a good business man.

All this he can tell you.

Buh Bye Bernie… All but over with

But Sanders, going where few politicians dare, would also raise taxes on middle- and low-income families, with those in the dead center of the income spectrum facing a $4,700 tax increase. That would reduce their aftertax incomes by 8.5 percent, the report said.

I’m pretty sure the correct response is “Why didn’t the daughter have her gun out, ready to shoot?” You know, you gotta blame the victim.

First endorsement I’ve seen in Kentucky (but I really haven’t been paying attention):

The State Journal endorses John Kasich in the Kentucky Republican Caucus. Of the remaining GOP candidates, we see Kasich as a moderate whose positions on certain issues are aligned with what’s best for Americans. He supports less prison time for nonviolent offenders; supports the continuation of Common Core; and recognizes the threat of climate change.
