Mexican President Peña Nieto Compares Donald Trump to Hitler and Mussolini

“Ominous situations in the history of humanity”
Politics • Views: 52,578

Former Mexican presidents Felipe Calderon and Vicente Fox have spoken out against Donald Drumpf and his ridiculous, unworkable, xenophobic plan to build a gigantic wall along the US-Mexico border, and today they were joined by the current president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, comparing Trump to Mussolini and Hitler in an interview with the newspaper Excélsior.

The only thing more absurd than the idea of a yoooge wall, of course, is the Drumpf talking point, repeated at every rally, that he’s going to somehow force Mexico to pay for the damned thing. Unsurprisingly, President Nieto said, “Nope.”

Asked by Excélsior whether there was a scenario under which Mexico would pay for a wall, Mr. Peña Nieto was clear. “There is no scenario,” he said. “I have to say that I regret” the plan.

He added, “Of course I can’t agree with this American politician’s position.”

[…]

“And there have been episodes in human history, unfortunately, where these expressions of this strident rhetoric have only led to very ominous situations in the history of humanity,” he said. “That’s how Mussolini got in, that’s how Hitler got in. They took advantage of a situation, a problem perhaps, which humanity was going through at the time, after an economic crisis.”

This should be good for a a few point bump in the polls for Trump.

The best way to deal with him, like with any other internet troll, is to ignore him.
Sadly, the media in their quest for ratings, have given him millions worth of free publicity.

The best way to deal with an internet troll is to get them kicked off of the internet, or at least the social media places they use. Ignoring them does not make them go away.

I’d agree with you… if Drumpf was an asterisk. But he’s the forerunner of the Republican Party, with a real chance of winning the elections.

In Donald Trump’s America, we’d have a trade war with China (and probably a few other countries), a hot war with Mexico because they told him to get bent when he demanded payment for the wall, a hot war in Syria (because, why not?), and we’d probably be subject to a war crimes tribunal due to his own public statements on the use of torture.

Cleveland seeking to buy riot gear for Republican National Convention

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland is seeking to buy 2,000 sets of riot gear, including riot-control suits and collapsible batons, as part of the city’s latest move to spend a $50 million federal security grant for July’s Republican National Convention.

The city this week posted to its contracting website a notice seeking bidders to provide the gear. City documents refer to the “Elite Defender” riot-control suit manufactured by HWI Gear and a 26-inch baton manufactured by Monadnock, plus 2,000 bags to carry them.

The city also wants to buy 310 sets of riot-control gear — long-sleeve jackets, gloves and shin guards — that would be suitable for use by police riding bicycles.

Top 10 Donald Trump Failures

The Donald had a vodka. Trump vodka (labeled super premium, naturally) was introduced in 2006 to much fanfare. Under the slogan “Success Distilled,” the liquor was touted as the “epitome of vodka” that would “demand the same respect and inspire the same awe as the international legacy and brand of Donald Trump himself.” At the time, Trump predicted the T&T (Trump and Tonic) would become the most requested drink in America, surpassed only by the Trump Martini. On Larry King Live, he said he got into the vodka business to outdo his friends at Grey Goose. Six years later, Grey Goose is still on top shelves throughout the country. As for Trump vodka? Yeah, we’d never heard of it either. The New York City blog Gothamist reports the vodka has stopped production “because the company failed to meet the threshold requirements.” Two weeks ago, Trump’s company filed an injunction to prevent an Israeli company from selling Trump vodka without his consent or authorization. Meaning the Donald stopped the only people in world who wanted to drink his vodka from doing so.

Trump may pick up other IC and IST voters, but he’ll lose women and minorities that might vote GOP.

I do not think Trump would get the typical 48%+ a regular (crazy) R would get. I can’t see more than 40 in a general election - if that.

What? No mention of the USFL? If anything, that’s a perfect example for Republicans of what happens to an organization that follows Trump’s lead. Trump’s quixotic, ego fueled crusade against the NFL resulted in a pyrrhic victory that netted them a settlement check of $3.76 and destroyed the entire league. Idaho Pastor Shot, Critically Wounded After Delivering Prayer For Ted Cruz

An Idaho pastor was shot in the parking lot of his church on Sunday afternoon, one day after delivering a prayer at a campaign rally for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), NBC News reported.

Police told NBC that Rev. Tim Remington, the 55-year-old senior pastor of the Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene, was in critical but stable condition after suffering multiple gun shot wounds to the skull and back.

Couer d’Alene police identified the suspect as Kyle Andrew Odom, a white male in his mid-30s who they said was last seen driving a 2004 silver Honda Accord. In a press release posted to the department’s Facebook page, police said they were working to obtain a warrant for Odom’s arrest and warned that he should be considered “armed and dangerous.” […]

Police did not offer a motive for the shooting.

Robison said he hopes that Christian leaders who are close to Trump like Jerry Falwell, Jr. and Robert Jeffress will lead Trump to a “road to Damascus experience” that would demonstrate God’s power to the world even more effectively than the Religious Right successfully playing kingmaker. Rebecca Bradley in 1992: ‘Queers’ with AIDS, addicts merit no sympathy

Newly appointed state Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley wrote in a student newspaper 24 years ago that she had no sympathy for AIDS patients because they had effectively chosen to kill themselves, called gays “queers” and said Americans were “either totally stupid or entirely evil” for electing President Bill Clinton.

In one piece, she wrote people would be better off getting AIDS than cancer under Clinton because it would get more funding.

“How sad that the lives of degenerate drug addicts and queers are valued more than the innocent victims of more prevalent ailments,” wrote Bradley, who then had the last name of Grassl.

In a column that appeared soon after Clinton was elected, she wrote: “Either you condone drug use, homosexuality, AIDS-producing sex, adultery and murder and are therefore a bad person, or you didn’t know that he supports abortion on demand and socialism, which means you are dumb. Have I offended anyone? Good — some of you really need to wake up.”

Calling Clinton a murderer because of his support for abortion rights, she wrote that anyone who voted for him was “obviously immoral.”

That column, as well as two Marquette Tribune letters to the editor she penned in 1992, were unearthed by the progressive group One Wisconsin Now, which distributed them Monday after a Capitol news conference. That group and the liberal People for the American Way called for her to resign from office — an idea Bradley’s campaign manager called absurd.

Televangelist James Robison still hoping to control the Trumpenstein monster.

An interesting anecdote - on Saturday I played a gig and we finished early enough to head to the diner while the returns were coming in, and naturally Fox News was on in the diner. Our pianist (an evangelical Christian and a genuinely nice person) saw Trump’s face on the TV and said ‘Oh, him!

And then, totally unprompted, she asked everyone at the table, ‘Do any of you think that evangelicals even like this guy? He keeps saying evangelicals love him, but everyone in my church says it’s a disgrace that he’s even running for president. I think he’s embarrassing the whole country. The rest of the world must think we’re nuts!’

This, from a woman who has never uttered a political word in the two years I’ve been working with her. So, there’s that.

Also - I was treated to seeing a closed-caption version of a Jeannine Pirro diatribe. God damn, is that woman unhinged. Her entire rant read like a laundry list of anti-liberal rage points interrupted by the odd verb.

I didn’t realize until I was in my teens that it’s not normal to hear a high-pitched tone (roughly 16.5 kHz range) in a quiet room.

I turned the speakers up very loud with my ears next to them when I was 3.

I don’t do concerts without earplugs.

AC/DC was the band that turned me to using earplugs. That last time I saw them, my ears rang for days afterward. I was very worried and scared about tinnitus.

re: #177 The Vicious Babushka

I can just see Trump appointing “Judge Ducklips” to the SCOTUS.

I have this novel somewhere on my bookshelves that I always meant to read and never got around to it. The premise was that there was a Supreme Court vacancy and in a move to get popular support an embattled president selected a TV judge for the vacancy.

Sadly, it’s one of those things that started as satire and may become reality.

1812 Overture with 105mm howitzers in the final movement.

Loudest concert I’ve ever heard OF was a symphony played on ships foghorns using a collection of mothballed supertankers somewhere in the Middle East. The musicians had a score that allowed for the time taken for the sound of their individual “instrument” to reach to conducting podium as most of them were several kilometres from the conductor.

Not sure what the loudest concert I’ve been to was. Maybe Metallica, but that was at the LA Coliseum, so it didn’t have the same effect as some arena or smaller venue shows.

Pretty sure my Foghat/Boomtown Rats concert was at the Chicago Amphitheater, which has to be the single worst venue for concerts ever. If you didn’t hear the tunes coming off the stage, you could always pick em up again as they bounced off the cement walls.

I saw Zappa (my first concert), Black Sabbath, Guess Who, and others not immediately coming to mind, there.

Still..worst venue in the world.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. I think the rallying cry for the GOP convention should be “Open bar and open carry!” I mean, it’s being held in an “urban” setting - there could be illegal Mexicans there! How are these God-fearing delegates supposed to defend themselves?

I’ve been lucky enough to see shows at mostly good venues. Irvine Meadows (or whatever they call it now), the Forum (first show I ever saw was Bob Segar, 90s version), the Palladium, and a few others up in LA. Most shows I’ve seen have been outdoor shows, now that I think about it, so that has probably saved my ears some.

Probably so.

I didn’t go to too many concerts once I his 22 or 23, so that likely helped me. My ears are messed up enough. I hate being around masses of people. I can’t make out individual voices…its just a mush of noise, so that alone likely made me not go deaf.

I saw Segar at that same venue, too. It used to be a real IT place. I think it’s been torn down. If have to ask DF. He’d likely know.

If there really WERE ‘incentives to not work’, wouldn’t that provided upward pressure on wages, to overcome the incentive to not work?

And therefore removing those incentives would remove the upward pressure and wages would fall?

Well, this is going to change the Over/Under on the Mississippi primary I suspect….

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant endorses Ted Cruz
By ELIZA COLLINS 03/07/16 06:58 PM EST
Ted Cruz has snagged a big endorsement the day before the Mississippi primary: Gov. Phil Bryant.

“It’s time for Republicans to join together and unite the party for the good of our state and our nation,” Bryant said in a statement. “I urge my fellow Mississippians to join me in standing behind Ted Cruz tomorrow.”

“I’m not going to get out and make a big show about it, but Sen. Cruz was in town today, and I met with him and gave him my endorsement,” Bryant said, according to The Clarion-Ledger. “It was a hard choice — I know so many of them, Chris Christie, I know Jeb Bush, I know the ones still running now. They are good people … But I am also looking toward November and I think if Ted Cruz is nominated, he has a good opportunity to defeat the Democratic nominee.”

I rarely order for delivery. The last time I did was about 8 month ago and it was actually pretty funny. I tried to get a pizza delivered to my wife’s office, but the delivery guy took it to the office next door. OK, whatever, I called and they sent another one. Same thing, and another. The pizza place didn’t believe me and the owner finally brought us one. The guys next door couldn’t figure out why they kept getting free pizzas.

A Cranky One  Mar 7, 2016 • 5:32:14pm

re: #211 Eric The Fruit Bat

Ravinia for starters.

Great place for a concert. Saw Santana there last year. Sound was excellent, much better than most concerts, primarily because there were no walls, so the sound didn’t reverberate endlessly.

I tend to get very cranky with the sound team at most concerts. Especially at large venues. Sound tends to be muddy due to the echos from the walls, and the sound folks tend to turn up the volume in an attempt to allow individual instruments/voices to be heard. Volume tends to creep up during the concert until it becomes painfully loud. I love live music but mostly attend concerts in small venues due to past issues with very large halls and excessive volume.

Will be making an exception in the near future, as Mrs Cranky got us tickets to see Peter Gabriel and Sting in July at a large venue. But Peter tends to have good sound folks in my experience, so I have hopes that it will be a great, pain free show.
