I’m still holding out for a lawsuit against Trump for encouraging ass-beatings at his events. Even if it’s legally shaky, I’d be really interested to read the arguments.

The question I have is who gave the USSS agents orders to enforce the “stay in the damned box” rule so strictly. What is Trump, or was it the agents’ superiors?

They’re all scared of TRUMP®.

So they go after TRUMP.

It shows how Great TRUMP is.

TRUMP is not scared though.

They’re too weak and they don’t have the endurance to keep up with TRUMP.

Crowd chants: TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP!

8
Pawn of the Oppressor  Mar 7, 2016 • 5:39:54pm

You know they want it, too. They get butterflies and a little tingle in their naughty bits when they imagine Trump giving them the go-ahead to pile on to a hated Liberal and kick the shit out of them, consequence-free. I wonder how many people go to these rallies just for the chance to shove an Enemy.

One of these days, Vulgar Talking Yam is going to go full brownshirt and someone’s going to die. He seems curiously unconcerned about the legal issues that he might face for such a thing. Someone should tell him it might cost him money.

/and also, it’s horrendously immoral and disgusting, but who cares about that.

Back when I had a land line, I had a couple of yahoos who would call and ask to speak with me after letters to the editor i’d written had been printed in the regional paper (Des Moines Register). They were on the balance, angry wingnuts, although I did get nice post cards from this little old lady that agreed with me as well. Now that I don’t have a land line I don’t have that problem.

Potential benefits of genetically engineered food include:

- More nutritious food
- Tastier food
- Disease- and drought-resistant plants that require fewer environmental resources (such as water and fertilizer)
- Decreased use of pesticides

- Increased supply of food with reduced cost and longer shelf life
- Faster growing plants and animals
- Food with more desirable traits, such as potatoes that absorb less fat when fried
-Medicinal foods that could be used as vaccines or other medicines

………………….
In addition to the FDA, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulate bioengineered plants and animals.

Genetically engineered foods are generally regarded as safe. There has not been enough testing, however, to ensure complete safety. There are no reports of illness or injury due to genetically engineered foods. Each new genetically engineered food will have to be judged individually.

Not to mention that he got the year the CRA was passed incorrect. The year was 1964. The Voting Rights act was passed the following year. Again, since I actually lived during the years Little Chucky is talking about, and he didn’t, he has no damn idea about what he’s talking about. He’s just repeating what he’s garnered from other racists like himself. My family was middle class because of my dad’s government job, but others who lived in our neighborhood were not “better off economically in the a950s and 1960s” as Little Chucky claims. How could a population of persons be well-off economically with so many barriers to upward mobility in place at the time, with the primary barrier being race? Well, I’ve gotten all the dive and camera gear packed, and the checked bag is coming in at svelte 45 pounds. (10 pound bag to start with). I figured that I can get all the clothes I need for a week at Mexican dive resort in my carry on, and they fit. 4 pairs of nylon convertible pants, 4 nylon long sleeve button down fishing shirts (with little epaulets to hold the sleeves rolled up), couple of nylon trunk shorts and tees, and my RON kit (Remain Over Night or shave / hygiene kit). I actually got the gear I wanted to take to come in under the dreaded 50# limit.

Probably going to use my Oly micro 4/3rd for video as well as stills, I lent my GoPro to a friend and forget to get it back in time.

Leaving Wednesday early AM, am so excited for this trip. Riviera de Maya, here I come.

I’m about ready to crash, but I remember there were some real problems with the producers of some GMO foodstuffs. It has nothing to do with food safety or plant genetics, everything to do with marketing and protecting the patents/intellectual property of their seed. I’m sure the arguments are stated (and overstated) in the antagonistic literature on the issue. Check also the economics of the “Round-up Ready” strains.

re: #93 Decatur Deb

I’m about ready to crash, but I remember there were some real problems with the producers of some GMO foodstuffs. It has nothing to do with food safety or plant genetics, everything to do with marketing and protecting the patents/intellectual property of their seed. I’m sure the arguments are stated (and overstated) in the antagonistic literature on the issue. Check also the economics of the “Round-up Ready” strains.

This is where my issues lie. Better regulation of the companies - and yes, Monsanto is a bigger problem than the plants they sell - would be a good place to start.

re: #37 jaunte

I think the biggest problem with GMO foods isn’t that the food is dangerous in and of itself, it is in the unintended consequences. For example, Roundup Ready corn let’s you spray your fields with Roundup herbicide. Great. Weeds are already becoming Roundup Ready themselves so farmers spray a lot more herbicide on the corn than they ever did before. Roundup is safe when used as originally intended-to clear all plants out of an area. In the soil it breaks down in a couple weeks, and is apparently harmless thereafter. However, it is (obviously) taken up by plants, including the corn, and does not break down in them, even if it doesn’t kill them. Therefore the crops contain Roundup, sometimes in significant amounts which may not be healthy for consumers.

GMO foods need to be regulated like everything else (not that anyone here is saying they don’t.)

Michael Isikoff wrote an article that appeared in Yahoo today about Trump’s ties to a racist, misogynistic, Gotti affiliated mobster Robert LiButti who loved to gamble at Trump Plaza. When the Trump campaign was contacted about it, again, Trump disavowed all knowledge of the guy, Isikoff’s article makes it very clear that Trump knows the guy, and even goes as far as to document that the mobster’s daughter says her family had a close relationship with Trump. His shtick is to do sh*t behind the scenes, and if/when it comes to light, to distance himself from it and persons associated with it. According to Gawker, TP was fined $650,000 because its employees filed a lawsuit about LiButti.

I read about a month ago that the group is planning a reunion tour, without Davey Jones, of course. I know it’s cheesy, but at the time their show was running on TV, it was a “never miss” program for me.

I thought Nesmith was still “busy with other things,” and only Tork and Dolenz were reuniting — again.

The show was a little cheesy (when I watched it as a kid, I wouldn’t have known or cared), but it and the movie that followed were stylistically pretty creative. They get high reviews now from critics.

The highly respected Criterion Collection, whose stated goal is to release “a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, [and] has been dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements”[129] recognized The Monkees film Head as meeting their criteria when they fully restored and released it on DVD and Blu-ray in 2010. They stated that Head was “way, way ahead of its time” and “arguably the most authentically psychedelic film made in 1960s Hollywood”,[130] Head dodged commercial success on its release but has since been reclaimed as one of the great cult objects of its era.” [131]

Why do they put up with it? I think the reason is because they consider Trump, because of his wealthy and celebrity, to be more worthy than they are. If asked if this might be true, they’ll never, ever admit that they think he is better than they are. There is still a pecking order in our society, and I think many of his supporters feel he’s the head rooster, and they are in awe of him. I imagine that a lot of them feel “blessed” to get within 5,000 feet of him. If he shakes their hand, oh, goodness, they just might faint!

The walnut variety Chandler was used for the sequencing project because it is the leading variety of walnut in California. It is grown on about 50 percent of California’s walnut acreage and accounts for more than 70 percent of the trees sold for new plantings. California produces 99 percent of U.S. commercial walnuts, and walnuts are the state’s fourth largest agricultural export.

Genetic engineering, though that term became so unpopular that the term Genetic Editing is used instead (and perhaps slightly more accurate in some cases, as the genetic material itself is often found, not built from scratch), is ubiquitous now.

The real problem (outside of the gray goo scenario) is, in my opinion, the business of agriculture itself.

If a large corporation can force a small family farmer to not collect their own seed, then I think that is a step backwards, to the days of tenant farmers under the thumbs of power land lords.

That needs a backstory:

The Russian, 28, tested positive for meldonium, a substance she has been taking since 2006 for health issues.

Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam champion, is provisionally suspended from 12 March pending further action.

“I did fail the test and take full responsibility for it,” said Sharapova, who won the Wimbledon title as a 17-year-old in 2004.

“For the past 10 years I have been given a medicine called mildronate by my family doctor and a few days ago after I received a letter from the ITF [International Tennis Federation] I found out it also has another name of meldonium, which I did not know.”

But:

Meldonium was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) list of banned substances on 16 September 2015 effective starting 1 January 2016;[38] it was previously on WADA’s list of drugs to be monitored.[39][40] On 7 March 2016, former world number one tennis player Maria Sharapova announced that she had failed a drug test in Australia due to the detection of meldonium. She said that she had been taking the drug for ten years for various health issues, and had not noticed that it had been banned.[41][42] Earlier the same day, Russian ice dancer Ekaterina Bobrova, announced she had also tested positive for meldonium at the 2016 European Figure Skating Championships, Bobrova was “shocked” about the test result, she stated that she had been aware of meldonium’s addition to the banned list (on 1 January 2016) and had been careful to avoid products containing banned substances.[43] Other athletes who are provisionally banned for using meldonium include Swedish Ethiopian-born middle-distance runner Abeba Aregawi,[44] Ethiopian long-distance runner Endeshaw Negesse[45], Russian cyclist Eduard Vorganov,[46] and Ukrainian biathletes Olga Abramova[47] and Artem Tyshchenko.[48]

No, I watch it too. Haven’t watched last night’s yet though.

I’m skeptical.

The cat on Trump is far more gold-orange, with longer fur.

It’s the con-man combo:

3. Give me money and support, and I’ll show you how I beat THEM, and you can be rich like me!

Shades of LA gov Earl K. Long’s campaign stump speeches.

Older brother Huey had his “Deduct Box.”

Earl K., a car trunk full of money to show the campaign crowds.

Oopsies! I was going to ask for advice is handling an awkward sitch, but I screwed it up accidentally. There’s this energy company called Stream. Basically they are a power provider and if you signup you might save a few bucks a month on your electricity bill. No big deal so far. A friend of my wife invited my to a presentation to make a lot of money. I wasn’t happy about it, but I went because I didn’t want to cause a problem for my wife and her friend. The scam (did I say scam?), I mean the pitch is that if you sign up people not to sign up for the power service but to recruit other people not to sign up for the power service to recruit other people not to sign up for the power service but to recruit other people not to sign up for the power service but to recruit other people and so on, you make big money. The commissions for actually signing up power customers are minimal. But the people who sign up not to sign up for the power service but to recruit other people would pay a $329 fee and $29/month not to sign up for the power service but to recruit other people. Ugh, I was very ill at ease from the whole thing. The guy sent me video links on how the magic works. I wanted to get advice on how to deflect this guy away from me without him realizing that I am in fact a virtual hermit without any real contacts. Sooo…
For the halibut I googled the company (It’s called Stream) As a power supply company it seems like an otherwise credible and legitimate business. As far as the sales program
dallasnews.com
They might have a racketeering problem for their pyramid style scheme. So I emailed the link back to this guy with a note that I think I better stay out to be on the safe side. However I added the first comment to the story, because I’m an idiot:
“I sat in on one of those sales pitches. Basically the salesmen make all their money not by signing up energy customers but by signing up more salespeople. The sales commission money comes from the $329 initial fee and the $29 monthly fees. The commissions for the people who actually sign up for the electricity are minimal. I was grossed out by the presentation because the guy who invited me was just after access to my family and friends.” Well, that should burn a bridge of one of my wife’s friends.

Yeah there is. My cousin who lives in the UK insists the UK version is better but I’ve been a William Macy fan since Fargo and I have a bit of a crush on Emmy Rossum.

Well, any sane individual would conclude that based on his previous behavior, he’s right where he wants to be. Seriously, though, Santelli now wants out of his current situation as fast as he can get out, but the odds appear to be against him.

Ah, the latest chapter of “The GOP Pollsters call me again”!

“Hello, we’d like to know who you will be voting for in the California Primary”

I just can’t help myself!

“There’s only one man who can save America! Donald Trump”

“Are you aware that Donald Trump rarely goes to church?”

It’s time to move in for the kill!

“Like every other Republican, there is only one person that I follow. Ayn Rand is my God and Atlas Shrugged is my Bible. Donald Trump worships Ayn Rand just like me!”

CLICK…

My favorite part of that balloon juice post:

But it’s not the only issue we need to think about. Income equality wouldn’t save Sandra Bland. Income equality isn’t going to stop global warming. Income equality isn’t going to end racism. Income equality isn’t going to restore a woman’s right to choose back to Roe v. Wade levels.
