Well, here we go again. I must admit I’m suffering from a bit of debate fatigue, but somehow I’ll force myself to watch yet another go-round of the Republican clown car, in Miami this time. It’s live-streaming at cnn.com, or so I hear.

This will be our first open thread to live-blog the fisticuffs and rage you know will be on display.

Mr. Lewandowski is not a peaceful citizen.

On April 30, 1999, the United States Capitol Police arrested Mr. Lewandowski when he attempted to enter the Longworth House Office Building carrying a loaded .40 caliber pistol in his overnight bag. See Compl. at 1; Def.’s Mot. to Dismiss or, in the alternative, for Summary Judgment (“Mot. to Dismiss”) at 1. At the time of Mr. Lewandowski’s arrest, the officers seized a pistol, three pistol magazines, a holster, and several rounds of ammunition. See Compl. at 1. Prosecutors charged Mr. Lewandowski with attempted carrying of a pistol without a license. See id. A D.C. Superior Court Judge acquitted him in a bench trial on September 23, 1999. See id. at 1-2.

re: #30 KGxvi

I wouldn’t be too sure.

Keith Olbermann made a point about the American People in an article a few days ago.

And it isn’t as though the American electorate hasn’t always had a soft spot for exactly the worst possible person for the presidency. Two months before the 1864 vote, some Republicans were so thoroughly convinced that Abraham Lincoln would lose in a landslide that they proposed to hold a second Republican convention and nominate somebody to run in his place. The Democrat they feared, George B. McClellan, was not only probably the worst general in the history of the country, but also his campaign platform was predicated on stopping the Civil War, giving the South whatever it wanted, running the greatest president in history out of town and repudiating the Emancipation Proclamation. Even after the North’s victory at Atlanta turned the tide of the war and thus the election, McClellan — anti-Union, anti-Lincoln, anti-victory and pro-slavery — still got 45 percent of the all-Northern vote.

Also, a Muslim I follow on Twitter found an interview with the last reformist president before this one, Khatami.

In it, he mentioned how Americans have commonly read de Tocqueville (Who I now must read). He vastly overestimates us.

Khatami vastly overestimated the American People, if I can be so blunt.

Robots don’t program themselves.

That was what had me rolling at the wingnuts who gleefully said that burger robot (which never advanced past the prototype stage, primarily because of costs and health concerns) was gonna put fast food workers out on the street (and wouldn’t they be so, so sorry that they agitated for a living wage?); none of them ever saw things logically, that those robots would have to not only be continuously cleaned to prevent widespread outbreaks of diseases, such as E. Coli, but that they’d have to have lots of highly trained, highly skilled technicians to keep them running properly.

re: #106 Big Beautiful Door

Agreed, but there aren’t going to be millions of high wage manufacturing jobs created by protectionism.

There’s already millions of manufacturing jobs that aren’t being filled in this country. They’re mostly advanced manufacturing jobs which typically require a minimum of an associates degree due to their more technological nature. The problem is less about job creation than it is about getting people into community colleges so they can be trained for these positions.

Things that could be in this museum:

- A copy of the DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN paper
- A wax statue of Joe The Plumber
- Dukakis’ tank helmet
- Trump’s water bottle
- Collections of goofy or raunchy campaign buttons

At this rate, we could have a “21st Century Wing” full of crazy shit on looping video.

I just clicked over to CNN and saw that there was an exchange on Cuba between Trump and Rubio. Trump basically said “they asked for reparations, nobody talks about it, there’s going to be a deal, and then we’re going to get sued for a trillion dollars.” He’s like a fucking freeper comment thread come to life. None of that makes sense. I had to stop right there because I’m way too sober for this bullshit.

Trump just advocated bipartisanship. Must admit, can’t remember the last time I heard a GOP candidate talk about anything but blatant obstructionism and my-way-or-the-highway.

Of course, he probably assumes he’ll get a really good deal.

Of course. That bipartisanship is dependent on Republicans controlling both congressional houses and the White House.

Sure, but I mean, we won’t pay reparations to our own citizens (and some of them even made an actual federal case out what we did in WWII), why the fuck would we pay reparations to another country?

Then again, Trump’s scam is actually pretty straight forward - whatever the issue “we don’t have the right people making deals (insert some bullshit about a bad deal that would never happen) I’m the right person to make a deal, I can make deals, it’s what I do, and it will be a great deal for us.” That’s his entire argument for every issue. It is spoken like someone who has never been without leverage in negotiations. I don’t think Trump realizes that in most cases, the president doesn’t have a ton of leverage when negotiating deals.

It’s probably a coin flip between Syria and Iran. Of course, since Russia, Turkey, Iran, and several others in the region are involved (on various sides) in Syria, the answer ends up being:

All of them, Katie.

What The Heck Is Going On With The Virgin Islands Republican Party?

The US Virgin Islands has about 103,000 people in 133 square miles. About 30% speak languages other than English. It’s economy is pretty much completely tourism based and it is beautiful. Basically, it is exactly what you think of when you think of Caribbean Island.

My guess is that nobody living there really gives mainland politics much thought, why would they?

re: #133 No Depression

As someone involved in economic development, what you say is 100 percent true. Our area in NC was devastated by offshoring and the Great Recession. But we have rebounded from an unemployment rate above 17 percent to below 6 percent by diversifying our manufacturing sector. The problem now is having qualified workers to fill these advanced manufacturing jobs. That’s tough in a location where 33 percent of the population over the age of 30 does not have a high school diploma or GED. We are preparing for a job fair that will have more nearly 2,000 available jobs, but the folks around here still complain that there is no work. And, yes, this area will vote 70 percent for whichever one of these GOP clowns gets the nomination.

Against its better judgment, GotNwes has published a Michelle Fields story.

GotNewsDotCom fails yet again, denying #MichelleFields video exists when it does

Why is there no video of this incident?

Full disclosure: I’m a supporter of Ted Cruz, The One. If I had the chance, I would worship at his altar. I’ve even bet on him winning the election and the primary, in that order, which shows you how clever I am. But I am not going to allow a serial liar* control the discussion about what happened. Nyah nyah nyah.

* EDITOR’S NOTE: As it may be hard to follow Chuck’s disjointed train of invective here, we’ll point out that the serial liar being referenced is not Ted Cruz, who was not even present at the Trump rally in question. Well, as far as we know, anyway.

Sometimes you can tell a story is fake really quick, but that’s never stopped us from publishing them before. Sometimes you can tell a reporter is a fraud even faster, especially when they repeatedly insist they are not a blogger but an Award Winning JournalistTM.

Last month Breitbart’s Michelle Fields said I hacked her computer when all I did was call her number that she didn’t know I had, instead of using LinkedIn to respond to a LinkedIn request like normal people would do. For some weird reason, she got angry, and accused me — who would never ever obtain private information about anyone, much less publish it — of a federal crime. Then I got angry because she wouldn’t correct her tweet about it, so I called her bosses and forced her to do it. Because I am an alpha male. Hunh!
