Breitbart Spokesman Quits Over Treatment of Reporter

Fallout
Media • Views: 54,245

The fallout continues from the alleged assault of Breitbart “News” reporter Michelle Fields by Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, as Breitbart spokesman Kurt Bardella announced today he will no longer work with the right wing propaganda site.

“When you can’t give an organization 100% of your ability, the best thing to do is move on just for yourself and for them,” Bardella, a former spokesman for Darrell Issa, said.

Asked if it would be fair to say he was parting ways with Breitbart because he disagrees with its handling of the situation with Michelle Fields, Bardella said “It would be fair for you to say that” but that he wasn’t going to.

Repeated from end of last thread:

To me this is really interesting and hard not to read as a tell. If that part of the story was false Breitbart would almost certainly have made Boyle deny it. Now that a criminal complaint has been filed though unless that part of the story really is false he can’t run interference for Lewandowski without risking an obstruction of justice charge.

Breitbart Spokesman Resigns Over Trump Aide Assault: ‘This Shit Just Sucks’

He also added that Corey Lewandowski had not, as had been previously reported, admitted to the assault. In a text message exchange with Breitbart’s Matt Boyle, Bardella said, Lewandowski only said he didn’t know Fields was a Breitbart reporter and would look into the situation.

It’s a bit of a tell that we’re having this discussion because a white conservative female reporter was at the receiving end of the treatment. Treatment that while inexcusable was mild compared to the Time photographer who got choke slammed, or the myriad black protestors who’ve been shoved, punched, and explicitly threatened with death at Trump rallies.

South Sudan is turning into a living hell.

Militias allied to the South Sudanese army have been allowed to rape women in lieu of wages while fighting rebels, a UN report says.
Investigators found that 1,300 women had been raped last year in oil-rich Unity State alone, it said.
The army operated a “scorched earth” policy to deliberately target civilians for killing and rape, which amounted to war crimes, the UN said.
The government denies its army targeted civilians but says it is investigating.

Do we have any allies in the area. As in, bordering it, and accessible?

Just a short visit to give an update.

When to the Orthopedic Dr today—gave me steroids to try to stop any pain caused by inflammation.

Next step, I guess, is to get on the Physican Finder for all the teaching hospitals in Chicago and read every CV. No one I’ve talked with seems to know any colleague that specializes on stabilizing the sacrum. Other than fusing it.

I may end up in Germany or Israel.

*sigh*

On the political front, I guess Chicago is getting a visit from Trump. *yawn*

Primary coming up, I am hoping to get out of the house again to cast my vote at the Court Building to cast an absentee ballot. Can’t be sure I’ll be able to stand in line or even get to the polls on polls.

I have no real objection to the howls of outrage over this mistake by Clinton, as long as everyone still shows up in November to vote (D).

IMO, this seems like the worst pure blunder that Clinton has made so far in this campaign, since there was simply no reason to say something like that. In contrast, the Kissinger business that also made a big stink over at DailyKos is in character for a relatively hawkish Democrat like Clinton.

NYT has all but written an obit for the Rubio campaign:

With Optimism Waning, Marco Rubio’s Campaign Labors On in Florida

This is what the political equivalent of hospice care looks like.

Senator Marco Rubio’s friends, supporters and aides use words like “miracle” to describe the likelihood of a victory here in his home state on Tuesday. They soldier on through sparsely attended rallies, insisting, Trump-like, that his crowds are larger than they appear.

His top donors, who gathered in Miami Beach for a two-day retreat planned as a victory party, are now contemplating a desperate Plan B: which candidate or which group they might instead pool their resources behind to stop Donald J. Trump.

Mr. Rubio’s campaign, once hopeful that Florida would be the final stop on his road to the nomination, has gone from fighting for its life to just getting through the day.

I said it yesterday - the Trump campaign is not just trying to refute this story. It’s like they want to tear this woman down completely - a figurative ‘head on a pike’ as an example to other journalists who might think about crossing the campaign.

In part, Miles says, the mural is a reminder of the city’s roots in native culture - including the vast canal system created by indigenous people. “Native people give this city its real flavor,” he says. The piece is meant as a poetic mix of art and politics, reflecting Miles’ belief that “artists move the culture forward.”

But he also thinks of the mural as a gift to the community it borders, saying its residents have seen plenty of airport and freeway construction. “I like the fact that the whole piece faces an older Phoenix community that’s withstood gentrification,” Miles says. “It’s almost like a last holdout.”

It’s interesting, having been brought up in that sort of culture, but it all changed in college and meeting women who weren’t beaten (either physically or emotionally) into submission. And then there’s Mrs. Fish, who was raised in that environment as a woman, but she resisted the controlling and grew to be fiercely independent and strong. It probably helped that she received martial arts training at a reasonably young age and felt her power.

The only way a gun goes off while cleaning it is if a person allows ammunition to be anywhere in the vicinity while doing that. There’s no valid fucking reason whatsoever for anybody to let that condition occur, it makes absolutely no sense. Even in a gun you leave loaded for home defense it takes almost no effort at all to check and unload it before beginning the cleaning procedure.

Gun safety rule #0: The gun is always loaded unless the action is open and you can see that it’s clear.

Exactly, every damned time you pick it up. If it leaves your sight for a second you recheck. You check even when you know for absolute certainty that it’s empty. You check whether other people are around or not. You check even if it feels really fucking silly to do so.

You check. You check. You check.

ALWAYS POINT THE GUN IN A SAFE DIRECTION

KNOW WHAT IS A SAFE DIRECTION.

Gun safety rule #0: The gun is always loaded unless the action is open and you can see that it’s clear.

One of many, many reasons why I support the idea of mandatory gun safety classes and documented time on a gun range before giving someone a license. You’ve got no business owning a gun if you don’t know the first thing about how to properly load, clean, maintain, store or fire the fucking thing. And firing it isn’t enough. You need to have actual training with it, too.

Of course that’ll never be law, but I still support it anyway.

I can also understand this. There is so much I used to do with my hands that I can no longer do. I can’t sit and do nothing (even while watching TV). I used to do fine needle work, beadwork, tatting. Now I can crochet for a little while with a big thick crochet hook. I can do a little mending. I can read. Oh, yes, I can smoke… .

As the rest of my body is betraying me, my life is getting more and more boring.

If I didn’t already know how to meditate, I’d have to learn.

also, when one thinks in terms of the media one uses (musical instrunment, pigment, code, whatever) and one can no longer implement the ideas the artists brain seem to generate of their own volition, it is very difficult to cope.

It reminded of me when my late father started going blind, and then the Alzheimer’s set in. It was painful, very painful to see my dad not able to do much of anything. I remember in January 2013 my mom set him up to help juice oranges from their tree (automatic juicer). He was so happy to have something to do. Those kinds of tasks were few and far between.

Absolutely right. However, booking this particular venue in this particular city on this particular day (with everyone having seen the black protester taking a cheap shot from a neanderthal on an endless loop) was a ridiculous idea that was always destined to end badly.

Rinsed must be drinking himself into a stupor right now, because this is his preview of Cleveland unless the party can work out a way to get a brokered convention.

Like that would stop riots from happening. Convention maneuvering to take the nomination away from Trump would most likely cause riots.

If the average margins according to Huffington Post’s Pollster hold, Hillary will gain about 170 delegates more than Bernie on Tuesday, and will have a lead of just about exactly 2 to 1 overall. She’ll be just over 700 delegates from the nomination; Sanders would need 70 percent of all remaining delegates to catch up.

re: #158 I Stand With Planned Parenthood

One trainer told us that there are two types of gun owners —those that have had an accidental discharge and those that haven’t.

ALWAYS POINT THE GUN IN A SAFE DIRECTION

KNOW WHAT IS A SAFE DIRECTION.

I use a lot of power tools (table saws, miter saws, routers, etc.) and follow one basic rule: respect the tool. Understanding the dangers and never letting your guard down is crucial. It’s too easy to get casual about using and handling the tools, and that’s when you get hurt.

The same rule applies to firearms. If you fail even once to respect it’s abilities and dangers, you or a family member can end up hurt or dead. One of my biggest fears about the proliferation of people walking around armed is that the people have become casual about handling and carrying the weapon.

The regular stories of kids getting hold of guns with tragic consequences reinforces that my fear is real. One recent story in the news was a second amendment advocate who let’s her 4 year old shoot a 22 cal handgun and bragged about how much the kid loved it. Kid was in the back seat, finds his mom’s “new toy” (her words for a 45 cal auto) and shots his mom (while she was driving) in the back.

She got too casual about the gun. Why else would she leave it in reach of the kid? She was too casual about it’s danger, letting a 4 year old shoot. Her lack of respect will result in another “accident” as she hasn’t allowed being shot my her child change her opinions. (She survived).

I don’t want to take away anyone’s guns. I just don’t want idiots who are too casual with their “toys” carrying them in public.

Now that Godwin’s law has been repealed, at least in relation to Trump’s tactics, it is worth noting that the Schutzstaffel (“protection squad”) was originally formed to provide security at Nazi party rallies. It became infamous by its initials, SS, usually written in Armanen runes. The SA, ie Browshirts, already existed, but the leadership felt the need for a better organized and disciplined force as a kind of elite guard.

I could easily see Trump doing something similar, and citing the inadequacy of “politically correct” police as a justification.

One of the marks of true statesmanship is the ability to calm an enraged crowd with well-crafted words.

Trump was not avoiding but in fact counting on an incident like this. Watch him make use of it.

He may try to make use of it but:

i) The people who are attracted to Trump do so at least in part because they think they are the silent moral suppressed majority. Having a large number of people protest against Trump is going to go against their world view that it’s only the political establishment that is against Trump.

ii) It’s far too early….if this was a few weeks before the election Trump could use it to fire up his base of voters. But 8 months before the election is far too long a time to keep people fired up and ‘entertained’ for lack of a better word. Even Republicans should get sick of Trump’s violent rhetoric after it’s caused months of disturbances.

Of course this is the plan. So now we are faced with two low probability scenarios for this approach to fail:

1) The media accurately reports on who started this shit (i.e., Trump).

2) The anti-Trump protestors remain saintly paragons of democratic virtue despite endless provocations from Trump’s goon squad.

The Ghost of a Cunning Plan  Mar 11, 2016 • 6:03:34pm

re: #394 Danack

i) The people who are attracted to Trump do so at least in part because they think they are the silent moral suppressed majority. Having a large number of people protest against Trump is going to go against their world view that it’s only the political establishment that is against Trump.

I wish this were true, but…no.

While Trump voters might declare themselves against the political “establishment” of the GOP, their anger doesn’t stop there, and their worldview is built on all of the groups of people who don’t count. Really, all Trumpism has done is incorporate the milder-talking members of the GOP and their outsourcing-heavy labor policy into the existing, pre-Trump paranoia about the conspiracy that’s keeping them from prospering.

This anti-Trump protest will be used exactly the same way all the smaller ones have been: to nurse that sense of a right to retaliate, and that everyone disagreeing with them is to blame.

ii) It’s far too early….if this was a few weeks before the election Trump could use it to fire up his base of voters. But 8 months before the election is far too long a time to keep people fired up and ‘entertained’ for lack of a better word. Even Republicans should get sick of Trump’s violent rhetoric after it’s caused months of disturbances.

Again…not really, given the cultural underpinning of what Trump’s doing.

He didn’t create the sentiment that’s driving these people—that’s been there for ages. All he’s done is given them license to be as ugly as they want. They already believe conspiracy theories; they already believe in the GOP folk bestiary of black welfare cheat and Mexicans desperate to sponge off of us. Some of the tropes at play are forty, even eighty, years old…stuff that Birchers and Southern Democrats used to toss about.

The people engaged by this aren’t going to burn out because of the intensity of the rhetoric—they’ve been longing for this. They might quit if he faltered in intensity…but all this hateful shit is the culmination of their worldview, without the need for propriety.

The cultural “truth” that many Americans—and most foreigners—are either cheaters or thieves is something that’s been furthered for decades. Heck, even as his GOP detractors fault Trump, they attempt to prop up the idea that any liberal American is a mooch that sucks and wants to take your money.

And this is, grossly, why the Trumpist moment is going to stick with us whether he gets the nomination or not. If the former, his rhetoric isn’t so far removed from the GOP standard that they will isolate him…indeed, they are far more likely to try and harness him. Also notice that in American history, right wing violence tends to get excused as a response to left wing provocation.

Left wing violence never gets the same consideration.

Historically, right wing mobs can throw punches, burn down African American towns, hang people from trees and (right here in North Carolina) actually perpetrate an armed coup against an elected government.

Left wing organizers get arrested, deported as subversives, tracked by COINTELPRO and murdered in the streets.

Bill Kristol thought Trump was just going to go away?

Fuck.

That means he’ll be ruling us all seated atop a throne of pelvises.

Thinking about how to best go about a visit to a Trump rally, cameras probably strictly cell phone to cloud. Bring say a DSLR and probably can’t get in or get put in a cage with MSM guys.

GoPro with wifi. Looks like a toy, can take a hit.

More of this. Obama telling the truth about Republicans is exactly what we need.

No Fucks Obama. We’ve waited awhile very patiently. And are now rewarded.

Many good things can take us away from our shared oasis here for a time. Even the mundane sometimes. Too soon to worry.

Patiens est virtui = Patience is a virtue. It is also a son of a &^$ to acquire.

I think Obama will find a way to make the Republicans squeal like stuck pigs over their SCOTUS obstruction.

The way I always phrased it: “Patience is a virtue… one that I don’t have.”

What’s the over/under on someone getting killed at a Trump rally before this is all over?

I have some, but I doubt one would get through security. Now, must admit I don’t even have a date or location let alone what the entry rules might be. The way I do things is inside the rules just to complicate matters for those that might object. I expect Trump rally entry screening to ramp up btw.

But the Germans had a case (sort of, kind of) about how bad the treaty was, and even we (the US) didn’t like it because it was onerous.

This is a different situation today.

In the last episode of The First World War that dealt with the end of WWI and the Treaty of Versailles, it was said that while Wilson went into the armistice/treaty process with “his sense of fair play” and was willing to work with Germany, he gave in to the sentiment that America had to be repaid for its war loans to Britain and France and that Germany had to answer for the manner by which it had prosecuted the war.

The First World War: War Without End (2003)- Part 10 of 10

The First World War is a damn good documentary miniseries; I highly recommend it. This part of narration, near the end of the episode, sums up WWI’s ultimate legacy:

“Its terrible message was that war can effect change. That war can fulfill ambitions. That war can work.”

If this spokesman had no problem with Breitbart before, or working for the known criminal arsonist Daryl Issa, then what really went down here? Did he finally grow a conscience?
