Trump Cancels Chicago Rally, Whines Incessantly About It All Over Cable News

LGF • Views: 59,867

Donald Trump canceled his rally in Chicago tonight, and he’s already working the victimhood angle like a boss, on every cable news channel.

Meanwhile, we have a power outage in the LGFHQ neighborhood, so until the electricity returns here’s an old school open thread posted from my iPhone via LTE.

“….Part of the problem and part of the reason it takes so long is nobody wants to hurt each other anymore, right?” he says, killing time while demonstrators are removed. “And they’re being politically correct the way they take them out. So it takes a little bit longer.”

What’s the over/under on someone getting killed at a Trump rally before this is all over?

I see the angle here:

Trump will start charging people to come to his rallies stating that no one would pay to protest at a rally.

The ultimate grift.

This is pretty much why I have my pre-set “there is a different epistemology at work, and that should worry us” rant.

That Trump is simply banging louder on drums that were already beating is inconsequential. That Trump is drawing endorsement and support from known quantities in the wingnut world is inconsequential. That his opponents aren’t saying things substantively different, but tonally different, is inconsequential. That he’s drawing on an entire folklore of conspiracy and rumor established by wingnuts is inconsequential.

The eventually joke will be if he wins, and everybody once again re-aligns.

In my town, I’m already hearing this. The elaborate versions of “oh, I hate Trump, but I just don’t trust Hillary” from, *cough*, respectable Republicans. They’re rehearsing their excuses for falling in line.

It will be interesting to see how this works. Some of this stuff really can’t be walked back, like a RedState moderator going all in on the comparison of Trumpism to the rise of Hitler in Weimar Germany.

Only a small fraction of Republicans have gone that far in opposing Trump. Most will have a better chance to walk back their opposition to Trump (if any), and most of these will fall into line if he is the nominee.

My dad used to love to say about Democrats “You know you’ve really hurt them when you hear the whining!” How the tables have turned. Oh, the ironing!

Trump and the noise machine have just told the world loud and clear what they’re really sensitive about - Protesters. Being shown as actual brownshirts on video is still a little too much for them at this juncture.

Not to sound too capital-L leftist, but if they hate protesters, I hope the protesters of the world take notice and double their presence. Trump shouldn’t be able to open a grocery store in Peoria without five dozen people showing up.

Unfortunately somebody is going to die in the next month, and “They had it coming for being a mouthy n*gger in public” will be the official party line.

Broken clock moment at free republic:

I don’t know that you can blame Trump directly for the violence, but you cannot completely absolve him or his supporters, either. When you have a Trump supporter sucker punching a protester, and then saying the next time he might have to kill him, and Trump supporters CHEER him; when you have Trump supporters roughing up protesters and you have the candidate approving and even offering to pay the legal bills for anyone arrested for attacking a protester; when you have Trump himself threatening to punch a protested in the face from the stage during a rally; then yes, I think you can safely say that the Trump campaign and many of his supporters share some of the blame for the potential for violence.

And for her, there was one main difference between the two men: Wallace, she said, did not go as far as Trump with personal attacks.

“I think my father had more self-restraint and respect for the institutions of government than Trump does,” she said. “I think my father understood the limitation of the executive branch of government, where I don’t think Trump does. And I think Daddy, even though he used coded language to use racial themes, he never attacked a culture based on their religion and race. He used coded language to suggest the racial themes. But he never specifically attacked a group of people based on their religion and their race. And I think Daddy had a respect for the process and the candidates. A great respect for the process and especially the process. He would have never leveled vicious attacks on the other candidates, especially those have been so personal. Daddy never would have done that.”

Smoking gun factoid: Police say they did not advise Trump to cancel the rally.

I think he set this up. No, the demonstrators are not actors on his payroll or some other conspiracy culture crap, but he did schedule a venue that he knew would attract a lot of protesters, and he did go out of his way to provoke and threaten in the days leading up to this rally. He then helped himself to a big platter of martyr cookies as soon as he saw the opportunity.

OK, I know it’s being repeated over and over again all over the place, that the Chicago PD have stated that they never met with Trump or his campaign and advised the rally be cancelled. But maybe the university police did, and the melon heads in Trumps campaign just lack to cognitive function to grasp the separation of the two entities, or to express the facts in a coherent manner.

Well, the answer to “how long” will differ depending on how finely you parse the different elements of what Trump’s campaign is riding.

The term Wingularity has been used jocularly for awhile online. And, being a little bit of a stick in the mud, I pointed out that the Wingularity would be the point that the crazy stopped being funny because you realized how much force there was behind it.

Well…we’ve hit the “not funny” horizon.

All the poisonous stuff produced by the radical right is converging. No, it might not win office, but there’s now a number, a count, of how many people really see the world through a opaque glass full of bile.

Do you know the way to San Jose?
— No, and we need to deport every one of those raping beaners!
I’ve been away so long
— If you disagree with me you should stay away, loser!
Do you know the way to San Jose?
— Is that anywhere near the beautiful Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes? If not, fuck it, it’s a major loser!
L.A. is a great big freeway
— Politically correct anti-fossil fuel propaganda at it’s worst!
Put a hundred down and buy a car
— A hundred? No wonder nobody’s ever heard of these cheap-ass Baccarat-Divineing nobodies. Fuck it, I’ve gotta a plane to catch. A plane I own! See you tomorrow in Cincinnati! It’ll be huuuge!

etc. etc. etc.

Trump is political theatre.

More popcorn!!

Trump and Cruz partisans are tearing into each other at free republic over Cruz’s statement partially blaming Trump for tonight’s violence.
WATCH: Ted Cruz Blames Donald Trump for What Happened in Chicago!
To recap, Cruz first blamed lefty protesters (of course) then added, “”I think the campaign bears responsibility for creating an environment - when the candidate urges supporters to engage in physical violence, to punch people in the face, the predictable consequence of that is that it escalates. And today is unlikely to be the last such instance.”

I would no be surprised if the coordinated protest was a Karl Rove / Democratic tactic after his meeting with the Liberal elitist. Even Bill Akers (sic) was in attendance. Both the GOPe and DNC are one and the same.

Toeing The Establishment line again. That’s our Teddy!

Cruz should be ashamed of himself. He is siding with BLM thugs and [bigoted word]s/Pakistani scuum over a Republican candidate.

What a political jacka$$, everyday I loathe this natural born Canadian political hack lawyer more and more.

I was watching and I wish I could post exactly who I KNOW is behind thus, however, that would probably get me booted, so I will instead say this…

Update!

“I made with my”?

That would’ve been a great Lennon lyric on one of The Beatles better albums.

BTw, do you have a fave Fab Four album? Mine is “A Hard Day’s Night.”

Forgive me, but I’m on my fifth week on Chantix, which funnily enuff was recommended to me by amigos in Barcelona, where its know as Champix, which I think is pretty funny. But anyway, as the Beatles sang, “Oh Mwee Why” or something like that on the Abbey Road lp.

Later, gotta split, and Eric Burdon and the Animals are being total assholes in the front parlor, but thank god Paul Revere and the Raiders have arrived. Those British beat bands are the worst!

Kasich will blame the Trumpkins for starting things if there is photographic evidence of them having done so, but unless such evidence is found he needs to meet the loyalty standards of the party.

I researched the JFK assassination and did a presentation for my class…in the 6th grade.

When I was that age and I read about what happened I asked ‘why?’ Why would this young dude blow the president away like that?

I was never a conspiracy theorist. I saw Oliver Stone’s JFK as part of my research in the 6th grade (!) and knew then it was very misleading.

I find it darkly funny that a 23-year-old communist who hated life took the opportunity to plunge world politics into darkness for a time. Oswald, what a fucking dip shit.

With all due respect, fuck the “loyalty standards” of the party.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the majority of the Republican party is against Trump. The majority vote is just split between several rivals. But let’s not pretend that any of these candidates are better than he is. They just happen to have the veneer of respectability because they’ve won higher office. Policy-wise, they’re all on the same page.

Only because the Overton window has shifted so far to the right.

There is no political “left” in America, even Bernie is barely a social democrat by sane world standards.

The “rules” that aren’t so much rules as “how to appease an epistemically-closed voter base that imagines themselves to be the sole True Americans, and the rest of the nation to be morally degraded and undeserving”?

This is what I mean when I say:

You keep deploring the beliefs of the voting base, but cheering the victories obtained by pandering to that base.

Swift2991  Mar 11, 2016 • 10:17:16pm

The truth is, the political center varies with the times. In 1936, the center was with Roosevelt. This country loved that man. Now, he was not a communist, which I guess will always be the extreme left that confiscates private property. By the second term of Ronald Reagan, he was center-right. Yeah, not in my mind, but that was the political spectrum. We ran two classic liberals against Reagan and Bush, and no give. It seemed like we were locked out. Then came an instinctual politician, Bill Clinton, and he mixed things up. Suddenly, electing a Democrat again was possible. He wasn’t Mondale, or Dukakis, he was a different blend. Juking right to go left. Caught them off guard, and in the end, we were more left than in 1992. Then the Bush disaster. Remember everybody telling us, now he’ll govern from the center? Ha, ha. Dragged us further right than we’ve been since… I don’t know when. Obama dragged us back left, and I think broke the spell the right had on us. Where to? Trump? Hillary? Sanders? The political center is never fixed. It’s a thing that’s established, like Charles Atlas’s “dynamic tension.”

re: #74 Shiplord Kirel

Smoking gun factoid: Police say they did not advise Trump to cancel the rally.

I think he set this up. No, the demonstrators are not actors on his payroll or some other conspiracy culture crap, but he did schedule a venue that he knew would attract a lot of protesters, and he did go out of his way to provoke and threaten in the days leading up to this rally. He then helped himself to a big platter of martyr cookies as soon as he saw the opportunity.

I don’t know. It does sound like the rally was a shit storm.

In the hours before the event, inside the 9,500-seat arena, Mr. Trump’s backers were energized. Some dressed in outfits to match his, and chanted “Trump! Trump! Trump!” as they waited.

But the situation grew tense as the size of the protest crowd became clear, and as some yelled anti-Trump slogans and skirmished with the supporters.

“They got the job done,” Vickie Deanda, 54, an accountant from Chicago, said of the demonstrators. “Someone has to object to this hatred. The people inside have a right to be there. But we have a right to be here, too.”

Shouldn’t all the venues hosting Trump rallies cancel them at this point? He can’t guarantee that there won’t be violence. His rallies are a security risk.

I don’t want to see anti-Trump supporters keep getting injured and having Trump supporters keep having the opportunity to hurt them.
