When you have a Trump supporter sucker punching a protester, and then saying the next time he might have to kill him, and Trump supporters CHEER him; when you have Trump supporters roughing up protesters and you have the candidate approving and even offering to pay the legal bills for anyone arrested for attacking a protester; when you have Trump himself threatening to punch a protested in the face from the stage during a rally; then yes, I think you can safely say that the Trump campaign and many of his supporters share some of the blame for the potential for violence.

OK, I know it’s being repeated over and over again all over the place, that the Chicago PD have stated that they never met with Trump or his campaign and advised the rally be cancelled. This is what I mean when I say:
You keep deploring the beliefs of the voting base, but cheering the victories obtained by pandering to that base.
The truth is, the political center varies with the times. In 1936, the center was with Roosevelt. This country loved that man. Now, he was not a communist, which I guess will always be the extreme left that confiscates private property. By the second term of Ronald Reagan, he was center-right. Yeah, not in my mind, but that was the political spectrum. We ran two classic liberals against Reagan and Bush, and no give. It seemed like we were locked out. Then came an instinctual politician, Bill Clinton, and he mixed things up. Suddenly, electing a Democrat again was possible. He wasn’t Mondale, or Dukakis, he was a different blend. Juking right to go left. Caught them off guard, and in the end, we were more left than in 1992. Then the Bush disaster. Remember everybody telling us, now he’ll govern from the center? Ha, ha. Dragged us further right than we’ve been since… I don’t know when. Obama dragged us back left, and I think broke the spell the right had on us. Where to? Trump? Hillary? Sanders? The political center is never fixed. It’s a thing that’s established, like Charles Atlas’s “dynamic tension.”

I think he set this up. No, the demonstrators are not actors on his payroll or some other conspiracy culture crap, but he did schedule a venue that he knew would attract a lot of protesters, and he did go out of his way to provoke and threaten in the days leading up to this rally. He then helped himself to a big platter of martyr cookies as soon as he saw the opportunity.
I don’t know. It does sound like the rally was a shit storm.
In the hours before the event, inside the 9,500-seat arena, Mr. Trump’s backers were energized. Some dressed in outfits to match his, and chanted “Trump! Trump! Trump!” as they waited.
But the situation grew tense as the size of the protest crowd became clear, and as some yelled anti-Trump slogans and skirmished with the supporters.
“They got the job done,” Vickie Deanda, 54, an accountant from Chicago, said of the demonstrators. “Someone has to object to this hatred. The people inside have a right to be there. But we have a right to be here, too.”
