Breitbart Editors Post Creepy Attack on Ben Shapiro Using His Father’s Pseudonym

These people are gross
Wingnuts • Views: 66,260
The original illustration for Breitbart’s vicious attack on Shapiro and Fields

It’s no secret that the people who run Breitbart “News” are right wing creepazoids, but today they took the creepiness to a whole new level, posting a nasty personal attack on Ben Shapiro (who resigned in protest over their shabby treatment of reporter Michelle Fields) using the pseudonym of Shapiro’s father. Yes, they really did this.

“Former Breitbart News editor-at-large Ben Shapiro announced Sunday evening via left-wing Buzzfeed that he is abandoning Andrew Breitbart’s lifelong best friend, widow, hand-picked management team and friends in pursuit of an elusive contributorship at the Fox News Channel,” the story begins. “It was business as usual for the ambitious conservative gadfly, who is known to live on the edge, courting and then leaving a series of companies over the past several years.

In an interview Shapiro denied he was looking to work for Fox News and that he has “never received” a job from the network. Shapiro, who is a Ted Cruz supporter, also said he did not violate his employment contract as the piece originally noted, since he is an “at will” employee.

The unusual piece, which can be read in full here, was even more shocking for Shapiro because it was posted under the pseudonym his father used while writing for the site — William Bigelow.

Shapiro’s father, the writer David Shapiro, also resigned from Breitbart on Sunday evening.

The ugly attack piece (right wing “humor” at its finest) is now gone, and in its place Joel Pollak posted a smarmy apology; but in the HTML code, the page title still shows the original headline: Ben Shapiro Betrays Loyal Readers, Listicles - Breitbart.

Statement from Breitbart News Editor-at-Large and In-House Counsel Joel B. Pollak:

The article was written by me as part of an effort to make light of a significant company event, and was published as a result of a misunderstanding without going through the normal editorial channels.

I apologize to Michelle Fields, my friend Ben Shapiro, and to everyone concerned.

Yeah, he was just “making light” of a company event, folks! Happens at every media site. (Not.)

Here’s the full article Pollak retched up in the first place, saved by someone at archive.is. Note that the title of the piece was evidently edited at least once, because the saved version shows the title as: Ben Shapiro Betrays Loyal Breitbart Readers in Pursuit of Fox News Contributorship.

This is what passes as a journalism outlet?

This is what passes for professional conduct?

These people are deranged, and that clearly is getting passed on to those who read the site regularly and taken the opinions offered as fact.

Somehow I don’t buy either one.

The whole Palin accident story stinks. Trump-Palin event cancelled, Palin on a plane back to wherever, then she shows up at the uncancelled Trump-Palin rally and all’s good.

I realize that this probably is just SOP for Palin since she didn’t rush home when her punk son was arrested for assault either, but still.

Ben: “I’m shocked, shocked, to find unpleasantness going on in this open sewer!”

Shapiro, a Harvard lawyer and member of the State Bar of California, apparently violated virtually every clause in his employment contract during an appearance on The Kelly File last Thursday evening.

So wait, their “In-House Counsel” publicly accused an employee of violating their contract without actually knowing what the contract was?

That’s a top shelf legal mind there…

So, what he’s telling people is that, when they look around, one out of every two people they see is out of work but wanting to? No. He’s explicitly leaving off that last part.

I’m thinking that the people who want to protest at Trump rallies need a strategy that separates them from the fascists. Stand up, and turn your back on Trump. Stand silently. Don’t shout, because nobody will hear you. Don’t wave your arms, because they’ll interpret it as aggression.

Imagine if 20 or 30 people organized to do that all at once, all throughout the crowd, or maybe all in one section near the front. Stand, turn your back on him, wait silently.

There was the Muslim woman with the yellow star who stood silently with a Jewish man - and they both got pulled from the crowd and shown the door.

That a point I made to a guy on Facebook who said protesters were going to Trump rallies ‘looking for trouble’ - it doesn’t matter if you’re vocal or silent, non-violent or agressive. If you’re not there to show fealty to Trump, you’re treated as if you’re a violent protester.

This is the precise shit that makes me worry, and keeps me from making the same assumptions that somehow a GOP defeat in 2016 is an inevitability. This is a goddamned inexorable surge and it feels like it’s impossible to stop anymore and that terrifies the fuck out of me. Especially seeing the rise of casual and explicit racism and xenophobia amongst my peers who have gone full bore on this stuff and keep using the examples in Europe as proof positive that all the darkies are evil savages that need to be stopped to save America the Great.

It fucking terrifies me, as a liberal, as a son of immigrants, as a darker skinned American, as an American period, and as a human being that the venom and froth have seemed to reach a self-feeding point to where trying to stop it only makes it more powerful somehow.

the Ticuna indigenous people of Colombia use depictions of animals for the masks they wear in rituals. Animals such as turtles, snakes, tapirs, birds, Jaguars and fish are used as a social function of specifying the different clans within the Tribe. This figure is an artistic creation to give a representation of a Ticuna person wearing their animal mask!

re: #90 Kryptik

It is very ugly and scary, and we have to take it very seriously. However, so far it still represents a minority of the voters. Trump doesn’t even have the support of a majority of GOP voters.

The threat to democracy, then, also comes from the mob that shut Trump down. This is the thing that drives me nuts about this debate. So many people on the left think that because Trump is illiberal and nasty, he and his supporters don’t deserve the basic respect that is part of the social contract in a liberal, pluralistic society. They believe that their tribe is right, and that’s all that matters. And why shouldn’t they protest like this? Their illiberal tactics have been working for months on campus.

So, I don’t at all back away from the claim that the militant left is driving a lot of this. How many Trump rallygoers left the other night thinking, “You know, these youths have a point. Trump takes things too far. I’m going to reconsider voting for him”? Not one, I’m sure. Rather, they probably left thinking, “This is why we need Trump. This is the future the left is planning for people like me: to silence us.”

Problem still is, how many of those voters will fall in line in the end simply because they see the Democrats as an even worse enemy that much be stopped and hung dead?

The problem isn’t them peddling this line. The problem is how much the media consistently swallows it. How, at best, it ends up as ‘both sides same thing’, with the unspoken corollary of ‘but the left is always worse and more monstrous in doing so and for doing so’.

That’d be the same DMVs that GOPs are underfunding/defunding and limiting hours as “cost cutting” measures that also diminish the ability of people to go and get ID that is essential for voting, especially in states where the GOP has instituted VoterID rules.

He’s for screwing people over with limited hours and poor service, because it’s in furtherance of reducing the pool of voters that oppose his jackassery.

I got a text from my youngest sister today asking WTF was up with my wingnut sister.

The wingnut sister just recently created a facebook page, and she’s already super deep into Jim Jones territory with a generous dollop of sanctimonious Christianity. She’s posting a flood of stuff about Obama having people killed and enthusiastically recommending that everyone go see the latest Dinesh D’Souza movie. I was going to comment about D’Souza’s history at King’s College (she’d think his felony conviction is all part of the conspiracy), but I don’t feel like having to deal with an angry screed. She’s the one who told me that Hillary should be in prison.

Anyways, we are starting to see the true face of Conservatism as it is practiced in America. It is not about principles or values, it is about making the world safe for people to pursue their limited self-interest without interference from government or society.

What we see are people at Breitbart pursuing their personal agendas, and as soon as they start to generate friction, they do not hesitate to turn on each other.

Breitbart senior editor-at-large Joel Pollak ordered staffers in an internal chatroom to stop defending Michelle Fields, the staffer who was allegedly manhandled by Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.

The internal Breitbart Slack chats, which were obtained by BuzzFeed News, put on display the tension between those at Breitbart who want to act like a publisher — defending their reporter and finding the truth — and those entangled in politics.

“STOP tweeting about the story. Stop speculating about the story,” Pollak told staffers in one message, and reminded them that “you were given explicit instructions.”

This is the same spirit of 19th century revolutionary romanticism that led people to believe that they had to totally destroy society in order to rebuild it from scratch.

They were somehow totally unmoved by the amount of human suffering that would involve.

My brother is like that.
You have my sympathy.

I have two brothers like that. At their age they should know better, but they’ve only gotten worse. One lives in Arizona so you can imagine how he thinks. My oldest brother and I have been very cool as far as a relationship since he found out I voted for Big Bill. That was in ‘92 so it shows how long things can last. Of course it didn’t help when he said back then he was considering joining something like Aryan Nation.

Family. What are you going to do. I sometimes wonder how I came from the same clan. As I’ve commented before, I was a late arrival surprise baby so in a way I am almost a complete generation apart and they were out of the house before I really came of age.

I was registered non-partisan in 2008 and voted in the Democrat primary for presidential (for Obama!) and it didn’t change my registration to my knowledge. The Democrats have allowed independents to participate in their primaries before.

The Republicans don’t, which is why it wasn’t an option on the selection form. If requesting the ballot would change registration, I would have thought they would have included Republican as an option.

This is the same spirit of 19th century revolutionary romanticism that led people to believe that they had to totally destroy society in order to rebuild it from scratch.

They were somehow totally unmoved by the amount of human suffering that would involve.

It’s the same spirit I’ve seen again and again, every 4 years. “If I don’t vote/vote third party/vote for the Republican, then the DNC will get the message and put up a far more progressive candidate!” And then they get absolutely confused when the DNC sees the regressive candidate gets elected, regressive candidates dominate the lower levels of government, and assume what voters want is a less progressive candidate on the next ballot.

I actually have more respect for Teabaggers at this point. When they decided they didn’t like the people in office, they busted their asses to drive them out through primary challenges, scaring the ever-loving shit out of the party and driving them further into the abyss. This primary season actually shows you could do the same for Democrats as well. But no, the Sandbaggers will just conclude from this that a progressive candidate will never win until the country is rubble.

I’m not sure I consider any of the Republican options better than Trump, really. They’ll all pander to the base, and the base obviously likes what Trump is saying, so it’s really just a matter of degree.

Having watched almost every second of the appalling events of the weekend just passed, I have a modest suggestion for all the groups working in rough alliance to keep the Republic out of the hands of a vulgar talking yam.

Stay out of the buildings.

Stop being played for such suckers. Stop enlisting yourself in his bloody vaudeville. Stop giving him stuff to lie about at all the rallies that actually do end up happening. Stop making yourselves part of the show, because it’s not working. It doesn’t affect him at all. In fact, his campaign gains strength from it, like some science-fiction monster that absorbs the energy of whatever attacks it and then uses it to destroy. It doesn’t gain you any allies; as should be clear by most of the meeping responses from the elite political press, the best it can get you is lectures about how Both Sides in our politics should settle down and let cooler heads ponder impotently about How We Got To This Point.

Off topic - other than this is something that will definitely not be discussed in those gnawing “debates” for fear of the truth - but the big science news of the day is this:

Oldest ancient-human DNA details dawn of Neanderthals

[…]

Meyer’s team managed to glean nuclear and mitochondrial DNA from five Sima samples, probably representing different individuals. A key factor in their success, says Meyer, was that since 2006, archaeologists had carefully refrigerated teeth and shoulder-blade tissue from the pit to preserve the ancient DNA — awaiting advanced molecular-analysis techniques.

The nuclear DNA, Meyer’s team reports in Nature on 14 March, shows that the Sima hominins are in fact early Neanderthals. And its age suggests that the early predecessors of humans diverged from those of Neanderthals between 550,000 and 765,000 years ago — too far back for the common ancestors of both to have been Homo heidelbergensis, as some had posited.

Researchers should now be looking for a population that lived around 700,000 to 900,000 years ago, says Martinón-Torres. She thinks that Homo antecessor, known from 900,000-year-old remains from Spain, is the strongest candidate for the common ancestor, if such specimens can be found in Africa or the Middle East.

The team’s latest mitochondrial sequences, meanwhile, again confirm the puzzling link between the Sima hominins and the Denisovans. Meyer suggests that the ancestors of the two groups carried mitochondrial DNA that is reflected in both — but which is not present in later Neanderthals. This elimination could have happened by chance, but Meyer now favours the hypothesis that an as yet unknown species from Africa migrated to Eurasia and bred with Neanderthals, replacing the mitochondrial DNA lineages. (Supporting this idea, stone-tool technologies spread from Africa to Eurasia around half a million years ago, and again 250,000 years ago).

[…]

The letter is viewable:

Nuclear DNA sequences from the Middle Pleistocene Sima de los Huesos hominins

Fascinating stuff, and above anything else it shows how we had sister species that hung around… and then went extinct (save for the tiny bits we preserve, through some sexual encounters, in our DNA today.)

That the opposition has become so resigned to his eventual victory that they’re not even bothering to show up anymore.

I was going to comment about D’Souza’s history at King’s College (she’d think his felony conviction is all part of the conspiracy), but I don’t feel like having to deal with an angry screed. The irony is that this same shit happens fairly regularly on the Republican side. GWBush betrayed them, McCain and Romney were RINO’s foisted upon them by the establishment, the true conservatives were always frozen out. That has all led to the 2016 Republican Primary.

I think what the movement types on both sides often forget is that they both make up minorities of the electorate. Most people don’t have the time/energy/inclination to care about politics on a daily basis. Add to that the fact that the vast majority of voters aren’t particularly ideological - at least not in the sense that the movement types are. Most people vote for the person/party they think best represents them and then trusts that the politicians they sent to Washington or the state capital will do their damn jobs - just like they, the voters, are expected to every day.

Maybe that changes a bit this year. Maybe people look up and realize that Donald Fucking Trump, that short fingered vulgarian loudmouth oaf, is actually a nominee from one of the two major parties.

I do think there’s something to be said for the idea that if you ignore a stain on the body politic like Trump, it might fade away.

Trump does not win unless we legitimize him. There is a vast difference between effective demonstrations and ill-disciplined reaction. The 60s Civil Rights actions were marked by planning, marshalling and training. Without that you are open to every kind of nutcase and provocateur. Selma worked, the Days of Rage failed spectacularly.

Yeah, but we’re dealing with a bullshit artist, which means he’ll find ways to spin the protests or lack thereof to his advantage. If they stay outside, he’ll puff up his chest and say they’re “too afraid” to come inside. And he’ll continue to insist that they’re only showing up because Bernie/the DNC are sending them to “shut him up.”

You cannot control what he says, so don’t bother. Just refuse to give him the public physical confrontations he wants.

Problem is the media’s hanging on his every word and are actively spinning the news to support it. He declares that the protesters are “afraid” and the media will be along shortly thereafter to debate whether or not people are staying away because they are afraid of him and if that means foreign leaders will respect us because we have a president who they fear.

Seriously, after the violence in Chicago, Trump goes to the media and accuses Bernie of being responsible by ordering his supporters to disrupt the rallies. The next day, Bernie gets asked twice by the media if he’s giving such orders while people like Morning Joke are playing MBF with the “Both Sides Do It!” mantra. Coming next will be the media “asking” Bernie to order his supporters to leave Trump alone.

My folks are pretty good about not dropping too many political bombs while we’re at the house. It usually works out to the equivalent of one Rush Limbaugh-style rant every 2-3 days, which is the typical length of a home visit, so about once every trip. More at Christmas.

Sad Oath Keepers also made me smile:

The head of the Oath Keepers gun militia group, which claimed Opaliski as a member, complained that the state’s Republican Party was insufficiently supportive.

“Looks like the Republican party there is more than happy to throw him under the bus if it is in ‘the best interest of the party first and foremost,’” said Stewart Rhodes, the Oath Keepers founder.

I agree with Charles Pierce.

Not sure I agree with Charles - the dems are always being told - don’t stoop to their level - do the right thing - let them be seen as the stupid - and then what happens - the GOP wins.Took the President a few years to work this one out - by which time the GOP had successfully screwed congress - voted for nothing & taken over the state houses.

What Charles misses is the media’s role in all this - they are the third arm of the GOP. If the media played this straight, Trump would be carrying the blame - ALL of it. None of this violence happened in the last 2 presidential elections - only difference I see is Trump.

The thing is, there is no independent media any more. There are huge corporations that have media subsidiaries, but they run them as profit centers, not information providers.

As long as things stay as they are the media will just keep sinking lower and lower to capture audience share, and the Trump freak show shows that there’s no level too foul for them to descend to.

Trump probably has more dirt on Christie than the FBI.

Either a VP slot or Attorney General. Probably VP after Trump watched Christie demolish Rubio.

Christie hit the limit of his inroads into GOP power structure. He’s not “religious” enough, in the very narrow particular way that religion is constructed by CPAC goers; he’s not “patriotic” enough, in the intense jingoistic, martial nonsense way. He’s a businessman Republican when that the group that (1) is experiencing flaccid base support, (2) is overstuffed with candidates that are double and triple threats, being fiscal *and* social wingnuts.

The Trump gamble actually makes a bunch of sense, especially since he’s out as Governor. It’s chance at an appointment, and even if it fails, of failing upward into a lobbying job creating by the new populist-nutbag niche that Trump is forged in the fires of Mt Doom.

This is a complete failure of education, media, national leadership and every individual American who lives in the epistemic bubble through fear and ignorance. It is going to kill the Republicans.

Oh FFS…

That delicate snowflake Dreher is demanding some sort of revolution against those pesky academic social justice warriors (mwuhahahahahahahahahahaha!) who offer a (one, 1, uno, eins) unisex restroom for trans people.

A reader tweeted this out from the annual conference of college administrators who run student life. He said, “Rod Dreher is not making this junk up.” He added that he did not see any single-gender restrooms onsite.

When will people just stop honoring this stuff? Read the language on the poster — it is prim and alien and just weird. And culturally aggressive. Keep pushing this garbage, you SJWs in academic power, and you will reap the whirlwind.

This is at the Indianapolis Convention Center…which has dozens and dozens of restrooms for everybody. I have been there more than once.

But one restroom for transpeople is too damned much for Pearl Clutching Dreher.

I see things in Israel are getting even nastier for Arabs.

One of the questions in the survey, based on face-to-face interviews of 5,601 individuals, asked to what degree they agreed with the following statement: “Arabs should be expelled or transferred from Israel.” The result, among the Jewish respondents: Twenty-one percent “strongly agree” and 27 percent “mostly agree.” If those two groups are combined, about half of Israeli Jews questioned - 48 percent - support transfer of Arab citizens. On the other hand, a similar proportion - 46 percent - say they oppose such a move, with 29 percent saying that they “don’t really agree” and 17 percent responding that they “don’t agree at all” to the expulsion of Arabs.

The thing about Shitlords, 4chan /pol dwellers and 8chan racists is that they are all rather proud of how disturbed they are, how they don’t fit in or function well in society. They turn angst and resentment over their inability to get ahead and prosper into the glue that binds them.

The key difference between them and older generations of conservative racists is that their indoctrination into the conservative lifestyle is much more fractured and schizophrenic. Now that the patina of respectability and tradition of responsibility surrounding conservatism has worn off they don’t really have a cohesive ideology per se. For the most part these younger alt-right brand conservatives just bored, seeking attention and full of a vague sense of resentment against the ethnic and religious minorities who they perceive as having stolen their racial birthright. However because open racism isn’t nearly as tolerated as it was in the past it is also much more difficult for them to organize in the real world without significant repercussions so they mostly focus on making as much disruptive online noise as possible.

I’m fine with how they’re protesting now. There is no right or wrong way to protest racism in my opinion. How about Trump stop encouraging violence against protesters? Period.

The people who spread the shit are bad enough, but they probably believe it’s true. The worst are the ones who knowingly create the shit in the first place.

I just sent her the Snopes report as a message instead of posting it to her site. I’ve actually blocked her on FB but I still get notifications when she posts something.

I can predict her response: “Snopes is part of the MSM media, a liberal propaganda outlet, funded by George Sorors!”

I think Trump could get Christie to lift his leg an pee on a tree.

He makes him do that before he gets on the Trump plane. He is not allowed to use the bathrooms on the plane anymore, he clogs them up.

When Trump did his whole bit being horrified at people using the bathroom he should have been compared to the late North Korean leader who never needed to use the bathroom. Trump thinks he’s a God like Kim Jon Un.

Thinking about Christie’s situation, and why he has to eat the shit that Trump is feeding him.

Christie has burned every bridge at this point. He’s terribly unpopular in his own home state, and any political juice he may have had is pretty much gone. He’s insulted everyone he was running against, and he seems to take things very personally so he probably feels insulted by his opponents, too. And if anything comes of Bridgegate, he’s completely fucked.

The best he can hope for is that Trump wins the nomination and the election, at which point the new president will give him a position of some esteem and runs interference for him with his scandal.

The risk, of course, is that Trump may just decide to cut him loose after the campaign. But as bad as that option may be, it still seems better than what he’s got to look forward to otherwise.

All that said, I don’t feel iota one of sympathy for that bullying prick. He made that bed. Time to lie in it.

It’s not only Christie. For the last month or so karma has been reconciling a bunch of ledgers.
